Mascara -Clinique - Lash Power
darcy123 4/5/2008 11:17:00 PM
I really like Clinique's High Impact mascara, but disliked how it tended to flake by late in the day. Problem solved! I tried a sample of this mascara and at first really disliked it: a little finiky to apply and weird to take off. But, it stays put on your lashes through out the day without flaking. I'm glad I gave this a second chance because it's now my new daily mascara. To apply, comb through with a lash brush after you apply. To remove, press really warm water on you lashes and rub gently. If I want lush full lashes for a night on the town, I'll use my beloved High Impact. For an everyday natural look, this is my new go-to mascara. EDIT: Still like the staying power of this mascara, but not liking the removal process. No matter how gentle I tried to be while taking this off, I didn't like seeing eyelashes in the sink. Down-graded to 3 lippies and will not repurchase.

Concealers -Mary Kay - concealer
darcy123 4/5/2008 11:06:00 PM
To date, the best concealer I have used, and I have tried A LOT! Found this based on positive MUA reviews. I have Ivory, which has a bit of a yellow tint and covers acne scars and broken capillaries around my nose really well without being cakey. I use a concealer brush to pat it on and blend. A little goes a long way. It's really quite inexpensive and I've been using the same tube almost a year. I always thought that Mary Kay was my grandmother's make-up, but this is one great product. Will repurchase.

Liquid -Biotherm - Sense Matte Foundation SPF 15
darcy123 4/5/2008 10:56:00 PM
I really wanted to like this foundation. It went on smoothly and left a nice, powder soft coverage on my skin. Unfortunately, the colour match was poor for my skin tone. Colour 130 was way too dark so I exchanged it for for 120 which looked good when first applied, but then became too orange as the day wore on. It didn't completely control oil all day, but wasn't terrible. If you can find the right colour, I highly recommend this foundation.

Treatments -Aveda - Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother
darcy123 4/5/2008 10:49:00 PM
My new fav hair product! Generally, I think Aveda products are overpriced and overhyped by the salons that want to sell them to you, but this product is great! One pump of this makes my hair soft and smooth whether I blow dry my hair or not. I used to use the Brillance Universal Styling Creme (got sucked into buying a tube of it ... but I did like it... ) which also required using a secondary product to help emolsify but this product does not. And, it's less expensive than the Universal Creme. Like all Aveda products, smells great. Will repurchase.

Styling Products -Aveda - Light Elements Smoothing Fluid
darcy123 4/5/2008 10:30:00 PM
A great all-round product. My hairdresser uses this one me and has convinced me that it was a necessary product for my short, straight hair. I rub a few drops through my hair before I use my flat iron and use a bit with my fav styling products. It leaves my hair shiny and smooth and not the least bit greasy. And, you've got to love that great Aveda smell. It's expensive but a little goes a long way. I use it daily and one bottle lasted almost a year. Will definately repurchase.

Mascara -Clinique - High Impact Mascara
darcy123 4/5/2008 10:20:00 PM
My favourite mascara. Makes my lashes look thick and full without looking fake. Applies smoothly and washes off easily. My only complaint with this mascara is that it has a tendancy to smear a little by the end of the day and can flake a little under your eye, giving you the "dark circle" look. I usually receive this as part of GWP events so I have probably only ever purchased 1 or 2 tubes although I have worn it for years. Will repurchase. ***UPDATE***: Have switched to Naturally Glossy Mascara for everyday. I prefer the more natural look and better wear. I was sick of having mini-raccoon eyes by the end of everyday. This is still a great mascara for drama, length and fullness but will save it for evening wear.

Eyeliner -Clinique - Cream Shaper for Eyes-Egyptian
darcy123 4/5/2008 10:04:00 PM
Found this eyeliner based on rave reviews from MUA. Love it! Brown eyeliner always looks so blah with my brown eyes and grey/black is often a little too much for daytime. This is soft enough for day but can be very dramatic for night. The hint of gold flecks compliments my eyes nicely. Although expensive, I will repurchase.

Skincare - Face -Pro Activ - 3-Step System
darcy123 4/5/2008 9:44:00 PM
I used the Pro Activ 3 step system for over a year before I decided it wasn't for me. I never achieved the beautiful, clear skin promised on the infomercials (I don't why I would have honestly believe I would have ...). I liked the cleanser and the toner but the refining lotion often left red blotches on my skin where I applied it. And, the BP in the products completely bleached out a new set of towles and pillowcases! I really disliked having to purchase all 3 products at the same time on a predetermined delivery schedule. I would run out of one product while accumulating stockpiles of another. I would buy some of the products individually, but not the entire 3 step system.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
darcy123 4/5/2008 9:24:00 PM
A pretty good moisturizer. Sinks in nicely and doesn't make my oily, sensitive skin feel greasy. The yellow colour is a little weird ... but no fragrance or oil makes up for it. The price is good and I will probably repurchase. If this had SPF and/or anti-oxidants, then it would definately be "dramatic" and "different" and would be HG material.

Toners -Clinique - Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion
darcy123 4/5/2008 9:12:00 PM
I tried all 3 products in this line and found this toner to be the best. I don't find it to be drying on my skin although it does contain alcohol. It removes the last bits of make-up off your face and I like that there is a bit of salicylic acid to exfoliate your skin. Overall, one of the better toners I have used and will repurchase.

Liquid -Clarins - Truly Matte Foundation
darcy123 4/5/2008 9:07:00 PM
This foundation goes on very smoothly and does leave your skin "truly matte" after you've applied it. I do need to blot by midday, but my skin is terribly oily so this is not surprising. Although pricy ($36 CAD), I will repurchase this foundation because the colour match is great. I have it "05 Shell" which has a slight yellow undertone. Most foundations are too pink or orange for my skin. Comes in a plastic squeeze bottle; nice and hygenic and easy to store in my make-up bag. I also like that it has an SPF. Not my HG but will be until something better comes along. EDIT: This foundation does not stand up to warm weather. After spending a full day outdoors, I looked as though I had never applied make-up at all. This foundation just seemed to disappear off my face! I will probably use this in the winter (therefore a downgrade to 3 lippies), but for summer I have decided to go back to Revlon ColorStay.
