Blush -Bobbi Brown - Powder Pink powder blush
rated 5 of 5
Tricho 5/16/2008 8:24:00 AM

I got this blush in a swap and it's gorgeous. It's perfect for accenting actually over a more subtle blush but I don't really do that. The shade is like a bluey pink - looks quite bright in the pan but goes on and gives a lovely glow. I honestly can't stand blue pink colours usually, cliniques iced lotus looked terrible on me but this is brighter and cleaner in colour and NOT shimmery, it's not wishy washy....if you get what I mean. I have yellow based pale skin and it gives me a subtle "pow" to the cheeks... :-) makes me look very rosey. This isn't a blush with peach in, it's entirely pink so don't go looking for this to warm you up because it's not that type of blush - you CAN use it over bronzer though and that would work brilliantly! I think this is a very unique colour in my collection, it's LE so I probably won't buy it again, also it will take me so long to use it up, I don't wear it everyday just when I feel like it. The lasting power on this blush is brilliant, it's my first bb powder blush and i'll be looking at others most definitely because they are a doddle to apply and last all day!

Lip Gloss -Chantecaille - Lipgloss in Nectar
rated 2 of 5
Tricho 5/13/2008 4:21:00 AM

This is my first chantecaille product and I didn't buy it, I received it in a swap from a very generous MUAer. I hate to write a bad review about this product but I don't think there is anything truly glowing to say about this. First of all: This is NOT a bad/irritating/nasty/horrible product to use, it comes packaged in a silver case with a mirror and it looks gorgeous in the pan....it feels moisturising going onto the lips and I find it perfect to keep in my bag and can apply without looking in the mirror - it's a pleasure to look at. Sadly that's where the good things about this gloss end. I will probably never buy a chantecaille product after owning this, I have seen the Protected Paradise face compacts that they sell for £80 and was disappointed, for £80 I was expecting something special!! It makes Guerlains stuff look like a steal and their quality is arguably WORTH the prices they charge!! I know they give some money to the seahorse charity (which was another justification to buy it) but at the end of the day they've probably done more DAMAGE to the Earth making these things than they will fix by giving £1 back to the charities! Just another thing that racks me off about this brand. Chantecaille charge a painful £21 for these pot glosses....and I find that daylight robbery, i'm honestly not one to baulk at forking out for a product I really want but this brand is NOTHING special whatsoever. Nectar, although pretty in the pan goes onto my very pale lips and has NO colour whatsoever.....i'm left with a pretty pinkish cast but that's about it. All I can say about this gloss is that it's glorified vaseline and women who think this is something special must either be in denial (sorry girls) or have more money than sense (and no idea that cheaper alternatives exist).....I'm so sorry to write this review on something I was so looking forward to trying....as i've said it's not a bad product but let me tell you, it's not all that good and I am confused as to why it's got such a high overall rating on MUA. There are better glosses at the drugstore - buy a coulple of cliniques superbalms!! you'd get better bang for your buck!

Lipstick -NYX - Lipstick- #529 Thalia
rated 4 of 5
Tricho 5/6/2008 5:34:00 AM

I got this new in a swap and was very pleasantly suprised! Why can't they sell them in the UK!!?? The lipstick i've taken off is purely for the colour, I don't find it that pretty at all, on it looks ok but it's way too cool, way too mauve and way too draining - I always run like hell away from these types of colours but my mum said it looks nice on...so it can't be that bad!! The price is good for these I understand and it was free for me so that's a bonus.....the packaging is ok, nothing chanel like but I don't expect that for such a cheap product. The real cincher for me and the reason i've given it such a high rating is the texture! It truly is dreamy! I love it!! These lipsticks have great lasting power, go on smooth and don't dry your lips out. That is brilliant, it's much nicer than a lot of h/e lipsticks that i've tried and I would really like some more in different colours. If they sold them here in the UK then i'd have one in every shade I liked!!

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Lip Color - Blondie Pink 64
rated 4 of 5
Tricho 5/6/2008 5:29:00 AM

This was recommended to me by a BB SA when I went to the counter looking for some essentials. I have to say that she got it just right when she put this shade on me! it's gorgeous!! This is a perfect nude colour for me, pink and beige mixed together - it looks very natural and beautiful gives good coverage and has a good texture. I love the tube - it reminds me of chanel lipsticks! very posh! This probably won't be a HG lipstick for me for two reasons.... 1. The texture is lovely but dries my lips out a little bit. 2. The staying power isn't as good as i'd hoped. Overall a beautiful lipstick that I will treasure and wear when I want a natural look.

Concealers -Bobbi Brown - Concealer Kit
rated 4 of 5
Tricho 5/6/2008 5:24:00 AM

I have no idea why everyone complains about this concealer, it's gorgeous!! I got colour matched as a porcelain and it's perfect. I'ts VERY creamy and the staying powder for me is excellent, I apply it with a brush and then pat in just like the SA did when she applied it. I apply this anywhere I need it and the coverage is excellent! LOVE! The powder it comes with is also excellent but jeez Bobbi Brown how annoying is this packaging setup?? Everytime I open the damned powder poof it goes all over the place, no chance of swirling a brush and I was gutted when I realised the puff included didn't fit on top of the powder, if it was just a bit smaller then it could sit on top of the powder and not go all over the place!! arrrgghhh! Regardless of this the powder is good and I love it once i've got it on. Overall it's a lippy off for the price, I could have done without the powder included to be honest - £21 for a concealer with a tiny amount of loose powder is way too much!! On the other hand it's excellent once it's on your face... brilliant stuff!!

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow in Bone 2
rated 4 of 5
Tricho 5/6/2008 5:19:00 AM

Awww bone was such a very boring purchase for me, one of those things I really didn't want to "waste" my money on when I could have been buying sparkley pretty things..... However, the fact remains that bone is a really useful eyeshadow and is typical of Bobbi Browns brilliant quality. It's basically an ivory colour and mine was the matte one, i use on my brow bone everyday and all over my lid, it's replaced benefits lemonaid for me which I found was a big disappointment with all its creasing and stickiness - bone is a much nicer option for me. Again it's a 4 for this colour because it's a staple, the price is high and the packaging is not the best. But as I said for espresso it's an excellent product and one you're sure to use on a regular basis. Very happy with this!

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow in Espresso
rated 4 of 5
Tricho 5/6/2008 5:15:00 AM

I got this shade in the nude on nude palette and it's absolutely excellent as an eyeliner!! It's a very dark brown colour, totally matte and very pigmented, I find that the lasting power on this is brilliant for a powder and it looks very natural - I wet mine before applying so that it goes on smoother and deeper but it's so easy to make this look smokey and gorgeous as well if I want to. I have taken a lipstick off because the price is a lot and the packaging is just "ok". This is a brilliant staple but nothing that blows me away. That said if you're looking for a shadow liner you really can't go wrong with this, i will buy this again most definitely, I love all of bobbi browns eyeshadows and this is one of my favourites!

Treatments -Darphin - Purifying Balm
rated 5 of 5
Tricho 4/30/2008 12:28:00 PM

I've got a sample of this, I wanted the intral balm and was given this by mistake, my skin is prone to spots and congestion, red patches and all other manner of evil complexion ruining things caused by me not taking care of myself. I truly did just slap this on not thinking much about it, i read the reviews out of general interest but over time I have started applying this when my skin goes crazy....it actually does work. I have to say that I never thought i'd give this a 5 but it really is a great product. It helps blemishes no end for me and also clears my congestion and makes my skin look calmer whilst still providing moisture. A full sized one is £38 which is sheesh expensive but it's not designed to be used nightly. Once a week is the recommended time to be using it. It smells herbal as well. Love this!

Tinted Moisturizer -BeneFit Cosmetics - You Rebel Lite Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
rated 5 of 5
Tricho 4/30/2008 8:08:00 AM

I was on the lookout for a time saving complexion perfecting miracle product last weekend and thought that this stuff was perfect. However this is clearly not the case which is very disappointing for me! Good points: 1. You get 50ml for £19.50. I think this is a good deal. 2. the packaging is cute and practical and know how much you've got left. 3. The shade is good as a "universal" colour. Yellow based as well. 4. It is good at moisturising and blends well. Bad points: 1. It is a tad too dark for me which I personally don't like 2. It leaves my skin feeling either greasy or too dry depending on how much I apply. 3. The coverage is ok but it's not enough, i thought it would be better considering how thick the product is. 4. It transfers onto my mobile phone!! NOT good! 5. It's not long lasting. Overall this product is just average. And to be frank, i'm looking for anything BUT an average product for my skin. I want something that multitasks, is quick to apply and makes my skin look good. This was my 2nd foray into TM type foundations and I have to say it may be that this type of product just isn't me. It's a very nice product, I still love it - but it's just not something I feel comfortable wearing everyday which is a big shame because I had high hopes after testing instore. UPDATE: I have upgraded this to a 5 - I tried it in a rush one day and wasn't so careful as I had been before applying it. I put it on in bad light but my skin was glowing when I looked at it in proper light. I love the way this evens my skin out but doesn't cover it like other products have. My previous review was very negative and I think I've got the hang of applying this properly now, i really like it and it makes my skin look more flawless than other foundations with heavier coverage! I use it every day now!! I'ts also very quick in the mornings!!

Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush
rated 5 of 5
Tricho 4/30/2008 6:40:00 AM

I recently acquired NARS orgasm in a swap and I really like it. I do think that I would repurchase it although there are SO many blushers out there on the market that whether this will happen is another matter. This blush is widely known as a "cult" product and there has been much hype over it. At the end of the day, this is JUST a blush and I think the fact it's a universally flattering colour is the main reason this blush is so widely acclaimed - a pale girls blush is always a popular product. By now most people will be familiar with the pinky peach colour and the gold shimmer in this blush so I won't bore you all over again! I find with this blush in particular that I can apply it with a FAIRLY heavy hand and it still looks natural and not clown like which I love, i can also not bother with highlighting powder because it's got some gold glimmer in it. Overall it's a very flattering colour and would suit most people with pale or medium skin. the lasting power on NARS blushes is always good, I did used to own deep throat and I think I do prefer this - DT always had me being careful of how I applied it incase I looked too overdone! The packaging is sleek and space saving which I like and I think for the price you get quite a lot of product. I think that this blush is worth the money if you're going to use it regularly and like a bit of luxury. I would recommend it to others with pale skin but what I wont' say is that its some amazing other worldly blush that you've been looking for your whole life.... I truly don't think the hype is worth it. But it's still a beautiful colour - buy it for that and not for the hype. EDIT: A day after writing this review i'm upgrading this to a 5. I think this is the nicest blush I own, it looks natural and I really love wearing it. I am kicking myself for not getting this sooner. HG.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Nude on Nude Shadow Palette
rated 5 of 5
Tricho 4/29/2008 7:18:00 AM

Received this in a swap and it's my first try of BB eyeshadow. I'm hooked. This palette is going to be a HG, it gives me such a beautiful natural look and the espresso shadow makes for a brilliant liner. I feel gorgeous when i'm wearing these. They are matte, silky and very blendable. They look SO boring in the palette but on eyes they are stunning, truly gorgeous. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this palette but if you like the natural look then this is for you, it's perfect for enhancing eyes and making you look sultry yet not overdone. The brush and casing are 1st class as well. Utterley wonderful and if you don't have any neutrals already then this would make a wonderful staple as it will for me.

Treatments -Avene - Eluage Cream 30 ml
rated 2 of 5
Tricho 4/28/2008 9:01:00 AM

I was really hoping that this would improve my skin the way some people said it has but nothing good happened for me! I would have happily admitted to it being just the wrong product for my skin and letting it go had I not broken out in red patches, spots and dry patches! I don't know what in this product made this happen but I didn't even find it good at moisturising. It was heavy, oily and I didn't like it one little bit. My skin just couldn't cope with this stuff at all! I'm very disappointed and I paid a lot for this - £25!!! I swapped this away for something much nicer and i'm so glad as well!

Brows -Clinique - Superfine Liner for Brows
rated 4 of 5
Tricho 4/28/2008 7:42:00 AM

I'm on my third one of these now. I've taken half a lippy off for staying power, and half off for price - £9.50 for something that runs out every couple of months is a lot!! However, despite these issues, this brow pencil is the one I keep on coming back to, it's the one I know I can rely on to give me a natural look. I've tried browzings, YSL brow pencil, pout brow pencil, no.7 brow pencil and various other pencils (I can't remember them all) and this one never fails me. It does wipe off which I wish it didn't but the look it gives is unbeatable, the colour is not too orange - its' ashy and natural....and because it's so small it gives a very very fine line. It's easy to blend and easy to apply. I think that this pencil is brilliant basically and it's a staple. I'm still looking for something that won't run out so quick, wont' rub off so quick and will give me a more natural look but in the meantime this will do just fine. For reference, I pretty much have no brows at all - I have cosmetic tattooing on them and when it starts fading I use a pencil to lightly darken and fill in gaps.

Treatments (Eye) -Clarins - Sun Wrinkle Control Eye Contour Care SPF 30
rated 5 of 5
Tricho 4/28/2008 6:09:00 AM

This is one of those products that doesn't dramatically improve your looks or anything but it's without question an essential for me in the summer. I apply this all around my eyes and in actual fact wherever I feel I need it like on my nose or around my brows, it sinks in without a trace and is not greasy or slippery to apply. this stuff is brilliant and frankly although the price is fairly high I don't care - I would pay it anyway because it's giving excellent protection against the sun in one of the most vulnerable areas of your face - this would definitely have long term benefits for keeping wrinkles at bay and for that reason I would recommend to anyone and everyone, men and women. It's great under makeup and a fabulous product. You get this in a sanitary tube which is clearly marked and there is a fair amount of product in there as well. HG for me and I will buy again and again.

Styling Products -Alterna - Caviar Rapid Repair Spray
rated 3 of 5
Tricho 4/24/2008 7:34:00 AM

I hate to give this product only 3 lippies. I was lemming it for such a long long time and I just bought it one day - the fact I had a bad hair day was the straw that broke the camels back when I forked out the £21 for this product. The first lippy off is because of the price!! The packaging firstly is functional but not incredibly attractive....not a big deal for me but i'd definitely expect something nice for the money I paid. No leaks or spills and it sprays a nice fine mist so no complaints though. My hair is fine, dark and straight - it tends to get greasy quite quickly and I wash it every other day - it lacks volume and I avoid the roots or using too much when I apply this product. When I apply this finishing spray I DO find it nice, certainly 100% nicer than d/s finishing sprays, it makes my hair very soft which I love, it also adds shine which is great. You don't need to use very much at all of this otherwise you'll overload your hair and end up with grease, less is more with this spray. The smell is ok, not that nice, not that nasty either, I can see how some would find it overpowering and awful, but i'm not usually that bothered by such things, unless it smells of something offensive, this is just a generic chemical fruit smell. Again, they could have done better for the amount they are charging customers for this stuff. When you pay big money for a small item, you expect all the luxury stuff like nice smells and luxury packaging - i found this product lacking in both. The conclusion on this is that I wouldn't buy it again, I hardly use it as it is and have not found it has become an essential addition to my haircare regime, I usually spritz some on when i'm running out of the door and it doesn't do a fat amount for me. No supermodel hair, no amazing ethereal qualities....just a nice spray that makes my hair soft. Is that worth £21?? The answer is no - it'll last me a while and if i'm not using it and i'ts not impressing me it's obviously not worth another £21. I'd rather buy a new top and some hairspray.
