Fragrances -Yves Rocher - Neonatura Cocoon / Nature gives me its strength EDP
rated 5 of 5

Beautiful, soft, cozy, patchouli, cocoa, vanilla. You have to be a patchouli lover to like this and if you are, you will love it. It is beautifully blended and stays close to the skin. As a matter of fact, I can hardly smell it on myself within minutes of applying it. I have to press my nose against my skin to catch the faintest whiff. My husband assures me I smell "elegant". I think the bottle is cute. I have repurchased many over the last 5 years. The price is definitely right. Too bad YR no longer offers the shower gel and lotion in Canada. Maybe they will bring it back for Christmas.

Fragrances -Victoria's Secret - Refreshing Body Mist in Vanilla-Coconut Passion
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 8/25/2011 1:31:00 AM

I love coconut. I love vanilla. I have tried every coconut vanilla fragrance from high end to low end and they either smell too fruity or too artificial. A friend suggested I try VS Coconut Passion. I poo-pooed it. Then on a trip to Bellingham WA I ended up in the VS at Bellis Faire. Tested it on a lark and was stunned. On my skin it is coconut, vanilla and sandalwood. Rich, well rounded. Many hours later the dry down is pure vanilla with a hint of sandalwood. A little goes a long way and it is very long lasting for a body mist. The lotion is identical. I have found my HG coconut vanilla fragrance!! Dirt cheap with the bogo they often have. I layered it with my other favorite, Coty Wild Musk. Divine! That's what I plan to wear in the fall when the air gets cooler. This has replaced YR Noix de Coco after decades of devout use. Will definitely repurchase.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice n' Easy Foam
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 8/25/2011 12:46:00 AM

I can't believe the low rating and I have to say that I am so glad I didn't read these reviews until tonight otherwise I never would have tried this product. I first saw it featured on http://bitchinlifestyle.tv (not affiliated). I had a really good idea what to expect. I also have 4 decades of DIY home hair coloring under my belt. My hair was 80% virgin level 5 and 20 percent ombre 2 shades lighter. My hair has natural red highlights and pulls a lot of red. I wanted to go back to a shade as close to my natural hair when I was younger. You know, before it turned mousy. I have some white hair but it is not very visible because I have so much fine hair. I selected 6A, light ash brown. I had no problem applying the product nor did I make a mess. I knew from the review I read to be careful. I was delighted at how well it covered my hair! One box was enough for my shoulder length abundant head of hair that easily soaks up so much because the texture is fine and abundant. I normally use two boxes of cream hair color. It was very easy to apply. It did stain my skin but to be honest, I have not dyed my hair with anything other than blonde for ages. I used those color remover wipes sold at Sally's Beauty Supply. I was a little freaked because my hair looked quite dark and auburn at first. It didn't feel damaged though. I used the conditioner supplied. I did not wash my hair for 3 days after coloring. When I did wash it, the muddiness was gone and I was left with my exact natural hair color minus the mousiness plus depth and dimension! My hair feels perfectly healthy -like I never colored it. The greys are gone. My friends asked me "how did you get your natural hair color back with a box dye?" It is more of a froth consistency like the head on beer instead of a shaving cream type foam. As a matter of fact, the product smelled like stale, dark beer. My hair smelled of stale dark beer until I washed it 3 days after coloring. I will definitely repurchase when it is time to refresh my color. UPDATE: Oct 4, 2011 - over a month and the colour is still a gorgeous shade of light brown with lots of dimension. Fooled my Aveda stylist yesterday. She thought my hair was virgin with natural highlights. Roots are minimal because I selected a shade closest to my natural. UPDATE: Oct 23, 2011 - My hair still looks great! Color has not faded. I am stunned that the color on my bleached strands hasn't faded either. Totally worth the stale beer smell and dark, opaque result when first applied. I am a happy customer.

Misc Beauty Tools -Sephora - SEPHORA - Whole Store
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 8/21/2011 6:34:00 PM

I have been to many Sephora stores and I have always been disappointed to underwhelmed with the customer service, cleanliness, availability of product I wanted to buy, etc. Today I shopped dared venture into Sephora downtown Vancouver, expecting much more of the same and instead was completely WOWED. Store was impeccably clean. SA's were helpful and friendly. Everything I wanted to buy was in stock. The tester products were clean and in great shape. I was floored. Even though I missed my birthday window for my free vanilla birthday cake shower gel, they gave it to me anyway! Last year I as in two days after the two weeks following my birthday and they said "sorry, you missed the 'window'" <- (Sephora Metrotown). I will definitely drop into Sephora downtown Vancouver then next time I'm in town.

Fragrances -Philosophy - Amazing Grace Eau De Parfum
rated 4 of 5
Shadow_Witch 8/21/2011 6:25:00 PM

Props for it smelling just like Amazing Grace cologne minus the cough inducing, scratchy hairspray note. Minus 1 lippie for being so expensive. Soft, understated white floral with a soft, soapy musk. The EdP smells exactly like the 3in1 which is what I like best about it! It's too expensive for what it is -but so is the entire Philosophy line. I always repurchase when I use it up -but not right away. I have to 'miss' it to justify dropping $$$ for it.

Fragrances -Chanel - No.19 Poudre
rated 1 of 5
Shadow_Witch 8/21/2011 6:12:00 PM

I am a lifetime N°19 EdT devotee. My favourite iris is Bronnley White Iris Soap. I am a sucker for light animalic musks. I love powder. I thought for certain that N°19 Poudre would be a hit for me. I also thought it would smell softer than it does. I like the idea. I love the packaging. I was hoping to bring it home with me.... After 3 days of testing it, I have to say that I really dislike it. When I first spray it on it screams N°19! Then the iris muscles its way past the N°19 and boots it clearly off the playing field. Then I get generic iris powder. The dry down has an animalic musk competing with the iris. It is very unpleasant and dare I say.... a scrubber. Body chemistry is a mad scientist!

Polishes -Nicole - Enchantress
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/23/2011 9:00:00 PM

Enchantress is a classic/retro sheer pink opal with a lot of blue flash. This shade of pink opal has been a staple in my nail polish wardrobe since the seventh grade. Widely available for 5 decades that I've been wearing polish, and from a number of brands ie, Cutex, Revlon, Anne Marie, etc, this basic girly shade of pink is always appropriate on the tips and toes of the very young to very old, and everyone in between. My latest bottle just happens to be Nicole. Having said that, Enchantress applies smoothly and beautifully. I apply two coats and the coverage and finish is perfect and it dries quickly! If you don't like the sheer finish, a first coat of white polish really makes it pop!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Kate Walsh - Boyfriend
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/23/2011 7:02:00 PM

On my skin: Coty Wild Musk + Coty Wild Woods + Nag Champa = Boyfriend. I love the shape of the bottle but having her ex-boyfriends' names on it just didn't do it for me.... I'd rather have MY ex-boyfriends' names on my bottle. Just sayin'. :P Although the three fragrances I mentioned above are totally "my thing", I already own them but if I didn't, Kate Walsh Boyfriend would be a no-brainer! I rate it 5 lippies just for not being another insipid fruity floral or tacky gourmand and, because I think it would appeal to the celebrity fragrance customer who wants something other than floral, fruity-floral, or gourmand. I have tested it several times and I like it enough to buy it. I am partial to the body oil though.

Hair -Alberto Vo5 - Alberto Vo5 Shampoo's & Condioners; General
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/23/2011 2:56:00 PM

This is the best shampoo and conditioner for my hair type. Salon quality as well as drugstore shampoos and conditioners containing dimethicone, simethicone, ____cone, you get the gist, not only leave my naturally fine, slippery but abundant hair weighed down and limp, they cause a "bump" breakout at the hairline from blocked pores. Vo5 contains none of these and as a result always makes my hair shiny, bouncy and and full of body.

Polishes -China Glaze - Atlantis
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/22/2011 10:37:00 PM

I have never used up a bottle of polish. Nor, have I ever entertained purchasing a back-up. I loved this polish the moment I saw the reviews here. I ordered one online and waited somewhat impatiently. When I received it I gazed upon it with hope that it would look the same on my nails as it does in the bottle. I painted my tips and was completely enchanted! Teal jelly base with multi-colored fine and chunky holo-glitter. I know I will use this one up and I did buy a back-up. I painted my toes a week ago. Two thin coats and NO base or top coat. It has been wearing liking iron. I swim daily and can't believe that the polish not only has not worn or chipped, a week later and I am still enchanted with how the holo-glitter catches the light giving it a magnificent depth. The teal color is so rich and perfect against my cool/neutral complexion. I've worn it several times already and I never grow tired of it. HG

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Spin Pin
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/22/2011 3:56:00 PM

I was holding back on buying these because I didn't think my hair was long enough. My hair is shoulder-length, layered, and I have A LOT of fine, slippery hair. I can barely make a bun because my hair is still about an inch too short to really tuck the ends in and my pony tail is very thick and springy. I gave these a try (no pony, just the spin pins) any way and as much as I wanted to poo-poo the spin pin, I can't. I am incredulous that two of these held my bun in place! Bear in mind my hair is still too short and these held it. Had I shellacked my hair with hairspray I could have gone out somewhere nice and the "do" would have held up all night. I consider the spin pins the equivalent of a hair clip/claw so therefore I don't object to the cost. Can't wait until the fall when my hair is a touch longer!

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Midnight Poison
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/17/2011 12:17:00 AM

I wear TM Angel and wear it well. My husband loves it on me and it always elicits compliments and swooning, LOL. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a woody oriental but not quite Angel. Today I while purchasing other items at my local Dior counter I tested Midnight Poison. I couldn't believe it. It's creamy patchouli, amber, vanilla goodness on my skin and the best part... I detect no florals! So, I bit the bullet and shelled out the money for it. It is quite expensive! I can't stop smelling myself. I feel I can wear this day or night, formal or casual. Will I repurchase? If I use up my 100mL and I still love it, yes!

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Dune EDT
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/17/2011 12:03:00 AM

I have been wanting a new fragrance. I wanted a skin scent but more. I had been thinking about Dune on and off but the copy on the CD website touted it as oceanic so when I would sample it at the store, although I loved it, suddenly my brain smelled an aquatic note (-and I hate marine/aquatics)... until today. I was perusing Productville looking for inspiration and came upon notluisebrooks' review of Dune EdT below. Her review spoke to me. Dune is indeed all she says it is. I ended up going out testing and buying a 100mL bottle! I can't stop smelling myself. The top and middle notes don't last. I don't mind because it is the creamy vanilla, amber and tonka bean base that works magic with my body chemistry! NO oceanic/marine/aquatic anything.Thank you notluisebrooks and yes, I will be repurchasing when I use up this bottle.

Lipstick -Christian Dior - Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick - Chestnut Chic 612
rated 1 of 5
Shadow_Witch 7/16/2011 11:56:00 PM

This is a mauve-y brown with white or silver shimmers that looks like the perfect bronze on my light, peachy, full lips and I love it. I have been wearing Addict lipsticks forever and know that these are sheer and the shine doesn't last but they do leave a tint on the lips. The two shades I wear: 260 and 612 Chestnut/ or Spotlight in the newly released Iconic range (renamed but still the same shades as always), bring out the best of my light, cool/neutral, olive complexion with red undertones and amber brown eyes. The Iconic packaging is the best so far because the lipstick is in a tube instead of a bullet that can easily be smooshed AND, most importantly the cap stays on. All my Addict High Shines in 612 had loose caps that easily slipped off in my pocketbook. I don't consider them lipsticks but tinted light-reflecting lip balms. They aren't shiny or thick like gloss either. $30+ is outrageous for a product I use for a lip balm but, a girl has to spoil herself sometimes, no? UPDATE: UPDATE: It turns out I HATE the new formula. It is too dry and I rescind my review I made above. Costs too much for being so little. Wish I could return it.

Fragrances -Avon - Tomorrow
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 6/30/2011 12:26:00 AM

I have been pining for JPG Classique EdP, but it is so expensive and I already have a closet full of perfume.... A couple times/week, I stop at the mall on my way to work to spritz some on. Last week, I had to place an Avon order to keep my rep. account active so I took a chance and ordered Avon Tomorrow. I just hoped it was wearable and if I didn't like it, I could always put it up for swap or give it to a friend. Imagine my utter surprise when I received it today and spritzed it on. I read in other reviews that it has been compared to Coty Vanilla Musk and owning both I can tell you that they are not alike in the slightest. Coty Vanilla Musk is it's own animal altogether. Avon Tomorrow is not identical to JPG Classique EdP (I have never tested the EdT) BUT, it "rings all the same scent bells" and quells the craving for Classique. It even seems to have that freaky nail polish remover note JPG does! I have not compared the notes, so I really don't know how technically similar they are. I just know that Tomorrow makes me feel the same way as JPG Classique EdP, only it's a little lighter in the basenotes and truthfully smells even better on me than my beloved Classique. So, let's just say I'm pretty happy. I love the hefty bottle, the color of the fragrance is similar to Classique and at $26 CAD, it's just a fraction of the cost of Classique. Will definitely repurchase when I run out!
