Fragrances -Banana Republic Beauty - Classic for Men
rated 5 of 5

Not particularly masculine, but Oh-so-delish. In fact, it reminds me of the way the Victoria's Secret stores smell (so much so that I wonder if they spray Classic in their vents). I sprayed this on a card and I couldn't stop smelling it all day. Soft and powdery but not in a baby-powder kind of way. Very, very nice.

Mascara -Clinique - Naturally Glossy Mascara
rated 4 of 5
KillerTofu 5/25/2003 5:21:00 AM

I'm not really sure about this. It defines my lashes naturally, adds some length, and after a comb-through, my lashes look slightly 'feathery', but where's the shine? With a name like 'Naturally Glossy', I was expecting it to make my lashes glossy. It didn't. Also, mine is really thick so I'm going to exchange it and try again. I'll update when I've done that.

UPDATE: So I went back to Clinique and told the lady that I thought it was too thick and she proceeded to take out the wand and smear it on a piece of receipt paper. She then told me that the mascara was fine. I was all, "Well, not anymore, it's not. Thanks for contaminating my tube." I didn't actually say that, I didn't say anything. Because I am a wuss. So I returned home with my contaminated tube of mascara to give it another go. Turns out I like it. Naturally Glossy is a nice, natural looking, daytime mascara. If you want drama, length, and thickness, look elsewhere.

Eyeliner -MAC - All Eye Kohls
rated 4 of 5
KillerTofu 5/17/2003 4:06:00 AM

I think I may be a MACwhore. My cousin has loved the brand for years, but I didn't buy anything from them until this past year. What was I waiting for? I've never met a MAC product I didn't like.

Their Eye Kohls are amazing. The consistency alone should make all other eyeliners want to go home and cry themselves to sleep. They are kohls, so by nature they are not creamy, but they don't need to be. They are so soft, they apply like a dream. Tugging? Fuggedaboudit! And the colours?! Imaginative, fun and surreal. The only reason I'm not giving them a five is because they don't have a smudger at the end. They should...but then again they're so great anyways, I should just shut up and be glad they exist.

I only have Phone Number (slightly shimmery charcoal), but I really want Teddy, and I've heard that Prunella and Tarnish do amazing things for brown eyes, and my chocolate peepers really want those.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Sourlipgloss
rated 3 of 5
KillerTofu 5/16/2003 3:13:00 AM

I love sour candy, so I couldn't wait to try this. I got it in Cha Cha Cherry. The scent is mouth-watering cherry, and the taste is...interesting. It is definitely sour, but just a tad bitter also. And then I have to question the benefit of a lip gloss that just gets eaten off (that's what you're going to do. I mean, come on. It's a sour cherry lip gloss. You're gonna eat it). Basically I applied it, licked it off, waited a bit, applied some more, licked that off, and then put on my MAC Lip Conditioner because what with all the licking, my lips felt a little dry.
I'm not sure about this one.

Note: It says not to apply it to chapped lips. Duh. It's sour. Full of citric acid to make it that way. Don't do it.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Dr. Pepper lipsmackers
rated 4 of 5
KillerTofu 5/16/2003 3:04:00 AM

A classic. It seems they've changed the formula since the last time I bought it (back in middle school - I'm 20 now), and while it smells just as Dr. Pepper-y as it used to, it doesn't taste as Dr. Pepper-y, and it's more red. But I still like it. It's smooth, but not slippery or greasy. I plan on keeping it with me all the time as my daytime lip balm when I'm out and about (MAC's Lip Conditioner is my staple for at home).

Gels/Soaps -Softsoap - SoftSoap Naturals Milk&Honey hand soap
rated 4 of 5
KillerTofu 5/16/2003 2:53:00 AM

I like this hand soap because it doesn't dry my hands out like most soaps tend to do. However, I'm only giving it three lippies because of the smell. It does not smell like milk and honey. The most prominent notes are coconut, plastic, and lots of 'sweet'. After rinsing and drying, the lingering scent is disappointingly plasticky. It's a good, non-drying hand soap, but I will not be repurchasing because there are much better smelling (non-drying) hand soaps out there.
***EDIT: I've added a lippie to this. The smell isn't bad. It's still not milk and honey, but it's grown on me. The reason I've upgraded it is because it is the only liquid hand soap I've used in the past few years that hasn't dried out my hands. And you know what? I had to change my 'repurchase?' answer to 'yes', because I did repurchase. I bought a big 1.25 quart bottle of it, and when that runs out, I'll probably get more.

Moisturizers -Paula's Choice - extra emollient moisturizer [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
KillerTofu 5/15/2003 8:23:00 AM

More moisturizing than the Completely Emollient Moisturizer, but not as moisturizing as the Hydrating Treatment Cream (my HG). Doesn't feel very smooth on. This will be good for people who are dry/normal, but I need something more. Also, it doesn't smell as good as the Hydrating Treatment Cream. I know they're all unfragranced, but they still have their own individual scents. Completely Emollient smells like old bread, and Extra Emollient smells like...I don't know exactly, but it's not good.

EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking before. A while ago I found that my Hydrating Treatment Cream just wasn't giving me enough moisture anymore...and then I realized that it's formulated for 'all skin types'. I decided to give Extra Emollient another try, since it's formulated for normal to extra dry skin, and wow! It's so nice to have a moisturizer that doesn't abandon me to flakes by lunchtime. I use this all the time now, and the Hydrating Treatment is now my eye cream.

Moisturizers -Paula's Choice - Completely Emollient Moisturizer
rated 3 of 5
KillerTofu 5/13/2003 9:18:00 PM

I asked for a sample of this, and I'm glad I did, instead of just taking the plunge and buying it. Although I am in love with Paula's Hydrating Treatment Cream, I wanted to try her other moisturizers. This is the one for normal/dry skin and contains antioxidants, but it simply didn't provide enough moisture for my dry skin.
I applied it after cleansing and toning, and if I did the stretch-my-cheeks/wiggle-my-nose-like-a-bunny maneuver (my patented move to check for dryness/tightness), there was some tightness. I never feel tightness with the Hydrating Treatment Cream. Also, I'm beginning to appreciate that all fragrance-free products have their own distinctive smells, and I do not like this one. It was kinda like old bread.

Bottom line: I'm sure this is an excellent moisturizer for some, just not for me. If you're leaning more towards 'normal', this should be spot on for you. If you're drier, you're going to need something more. (*cough*hydratingtreatmentcream*cough*)

Polishes -MAC - Nail Polish
rated 5 of 5
KillerTofu 5/13/2003 1:05:00 PM

I have Media and Gloss, which are about as different as they can be. Media is a rich, deep burgundy/red wine colour. Sexy on toenails, dramatic on fingernails. Gloss is a beautiful peachy pink with a golden shimmer that is lovely on toenails and fingernails. Great for a more natural look.

With Media I use two coats, and it goes on so smoothly (nice brush), and dries so shiny, I love it! The finish is like glass. A topcoat won't even improve the shine. It's great. Gloss isn't as shiny, but because of the lighter colour, it doesn't need a shine. They last well too. Use a base and top coat, and you'll be chip-free for days.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
rated 4 of 5
KillerTofu 5/13/2003 12:29:00 PM

I also reviewed this under 'Studio Fix', this is the same review.

This is the only foundation product I use. It doesn't irritate my skin, never looks cakey or unnatural, and makes my already great skin look absolutely flawless. While it is more expensive than a pressed powder by a drugstore brand, it is money well spent because you can get an exact match to your skin and it will last forever.

Note: I do not use the sponge included to apply Studio Fix. I prefer lighter, more natural coverage, so I apply it with my beloved Sephora Retractable Powder Brush.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Lites Crystal Clear
rated 3 of 5
KillerTofu 5/13/2003 12:16:00 PM

This is the same review I posted under the Lip Lites general heading.

This is a decent clear lip gloss. It is spearmint scented/flavoured, and has a slight tingle. It's fairly liquidy (not at all tacky like MAC's clear Lipglass) and therefore doesn't have much staying power. It's pretty good for the price (you know Bonne Bell, kind on the wallet), but I wouldn't mind spending a little more on a better shiny clear lip gloss (like MAC's, mentioned above, or Urban Decay's XXX Shine Gloss in Ozone, for example.)

Eyeliner -Jane - Gliding Eyeliners in Black Magic
rated 2 of 5
KillerTofu 5/13/2003 12:06:00 PM

Does not glide, as the name implies. Not at all creamy, and the pigment is wussy. I drew a line on the back of my hand, pressing as hard as I could, and it was not 'Black Magic'. More like 'Grey Ho-Hum'. If you want a good dark liner (live a little, abandon flat black), try MAC's Eye Kohl in Phone Number. Now there's some magic.
