Fragrances -Issey Miyake - L'Eau d'Issey
KatieRoxx 2/5/2008 8:10:00 PM
Nice fragrance and very pretty bottle, wore it pretty regularly for awhile, but too many men recognized it immediately so I figure if that many straight men know the name of your perfume because they are constantly smelling the same perfume on their wives, girlfriends, mothers, sisters...then it's overplayed.

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Green Tea
KatieRoxx 2/5/2008 7:59:00 PM
Other reviewers have panned this saying it's "not very complex" or "smells simple" - actually, that's what I love about this scent. It is subtle, smells clean, fresh and, yes - simple. While I really favor it during warmer months, it does translate year round and has fairly decent staying power. If you are the kind of woman who likes a heavy, overly complex scent that lingers in the elevator you exited 10 minutes prior and makes people want to gag as they have to breathe in its noxious fumes for 30 floors, then this isn't the scent for you!

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Private Collection
KatieRoxx 2/5/2008 7:43:00 PM
Definitely not a subtle scent - very heavy, strong, long-lasting scent. I only bought it because the smell reminds me of my mother when she would get dressed up to go out to dinner parties in the 1970s - so I can understand how many find it an "old" scent because perfumes were a lot heavier back then with strong oriental or floral leanings - none of the fruity, unisex scents we favor today. On the rare occassions I do spritz myself with this, it's usually when I'm at home. I think this is too strong a scent to wear to the office.

Self Tanners -Clarins - Self Tanning Milk SPF 6
KatieRoxx 2/2/2008 12:05:00 AM
Alas, I don't bother with self-tanners anymore because I was not a particularly adept user and found no amount of exfoliating would stem the dark/dirty streaks from showing up around my knees, feet and elbows. I can say that out of all the self-tanners I tried (Estee Lauder, Neutrogena, etc.), Clarins actually gave me the most believeable color on my fair skin. For the color, I give it a 4. The smell was kind of gross and seemed to linger on the skin for a day. It is also crazy expensive, but if you've had a hard time finding a natural looking color, I'd still try the Clarins.

Lip Gloss -Cargo - Baden Baden
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:55:00 PM
I'm mixed on this - I bought this color along with 2 other Cargo glosses. I love Cargo's blush and eyeshadow lines, so I wanted to love the gloss line as well. The colors are all great - they do go on EXTREMELY sheer - even if it looks very dark in the pot, it doesn't show up that way on your lips. The staying power is lousy. But I have yet to find a gloss that really does stay put for longer than 20 minutes. While I love Cargo's metal tins, dipping my finger or a brush in this product seems a little gross.

Lip Gloss -Stila - Lip glaze
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:47:00 PM
Eh...not impressed. I bought into the whole beauty magazine hype on this one. Only giving this 2 lippies because of the selection of colors and the applicator pen. Like most lip glosses, the staying power is lousy. This one does feel a little tacky. And the price is out of line given it's got no better lasting power than a cheap drugstore gloss. In fact, I just recently saw NYC and Jane have lip gloss that is packaged identically to Stila's Lip Glaze pens - and they are dirt cheap. The color selections aren't as vast and they will probably also wear off quickly, but for under $5, who cares!

Lip Liners -Revlon - Colorstay Lip Liner in Nude 630
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:35:00 PM
If my lips are generally in good shape (i.e., not chapped or dry), this liner is excellent. Staying power is great and the color works well with my fair skin. If my lips are stripped of moisture, I completely avoid using this liner as it can feel a little too dry and make my lips worse.

Eyeliner -Urban Decay - Liquid Liner in Spare Change
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:26:00 PM
I really loved this color - a charcoal-grey with a tinge of silver to it. The staying power on this product is also pretty good. However, I don't like the applicator brush that comes with this, so don't think I'd buy it again.

Mascara -Almay - Amazing Lash® Mascara 16-Hour Wear
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:20:00 PM
I really like this mascara - nice brush, good lengthening and thickening properties, clump free applications, non-existent smudging/flaking. Not overly dramatic, but I have pretty short, thin lashes - so asking for "dramatic" is asking for a lot from any mascara. Excellent for daytime looks. Almay sometimes runs a little higher than my other go-to mascara (Cover Girl Lash Exact), but I'd definitely use this again if I saw it on sale or had a coupon.

Masks -Aveda - Intensive Hydrating Masque
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:08:00 PM
I had gotten a facial during the summer and the spa had used this product on me after chilling it in a fridge. It felt great when it was applied this way, and my skin was really soft afterwards so I bought it. But I think my skin felt really soft because I had just spent an hour having my face steamed, exfoliated, moisturized and massaged by a professional. While this feels nice when you apply it (especially if you keep it in the fridge), I don't really notice any major improvements in the hydration of my skin.

Blush -Tarte - Cheek Stain in Flush
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 11:00:00 PM
Really nice color for fair skin - like you've just come in from being out in the snow. I like the push up stick packaging. Overall, this gives me the same color as BeneFit's BeneTint, but I find Tarte is much easier to apply - but the color doesn't last quite as long as BeneTint. Expensive, but Tarte gives you a good amount of product so it lasts quite awhile. I like the consistency of the product and think the gel is especially nice to use in the winter when my skin tends to fluctuate from normal to dry. If you have dry skin year round, this might be the blush for you.

Shampoo -Aveda - Blue Malva Shampoo & Conditioner
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 10:48:00 PM
The most DRYING shampoo I have ever used. Recommended to me by a hair stylist, but I'll never be suckered into buying this crap again! Save your money.

Conditioner -Aveda - Sap Moss Conditioning Detangler [DISCONTINUED]
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 10:42:00 PM
Two lippies for the scent (really earthy which I like, but some may hate) and it makes an ok conditioner, but didn't seem to live up to the detangling moniker. My hair is pretty thick and dry and it gets pretty snarly after washing - this didn't help that much to make comb outs easier. This might be too much conditioning for some unless your hair always feels parched, like mine.

Lotions/ Creams -Neal's Yard - Orange Flower Nourishing Decollette Gel
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 10:27:00 PM
While I haven't noticed any drastic change in improving the firmness of the skin around my bust/neckline, I get a ton of compliments on how good I smell when I use this product. It does smell really nice and fresh and I don't bother wearing any fragrance when I use it thinking a perfume might clash with the orange flower scent. The glass jar it comes in looks nice, but getting at the product is a pain - it does get under your nails because you are digging your fingers in a jar. Would have been less messy if it was packaged in a squeeze tube

Toners -Neutrogena - Alcohol-Free Toner
KatieRoxx 2/1/2008 10:16:00 PM
I have fairly sensitive skin and thought I'd try this as it had "Alcohol-Free" in the label and I'd used the pore refining toner from Neutrogena before. Oddly enough, I think I'll switch back to the pore refining toner as it seemed more gentle, or I'll use the Sephora brand Soothing Toner which I recently got a small travel size bottle of and really liked. The Neutrogena Alcohol Free toner sometimes mildly stings on the drier areas of my face.
