Lips -Nivea - A Kiss of Milk and Honey
Kalya 7/29/2012 9:23:00 AM
I wanted to like this lip balm, as I like the Nivea original moisturizing creme (navy blue jar) a lot. This balm sounds great 'milk and honey' and looks great. Applied on the lips, it is a terrible experience. My lips stung and seemed very sticky and greasy. The price was also high, especially since I had not bought this at a discount or sale.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - sesame oil
Kalya 7/28/2012 7:58:00 PM
Sesame oil is *amazing* for filling out fine lines and smoothing wrinkles. A masque of raw turmeric and sesame oil, massaged into the skin and left to dry, works wonders for the skin. Wipe off after drying and apply yogurt to absorb the turmeric stains. The smell can be bothersome but I don't mind it much. I usually mix it with rose water or some essential oil.

Masks -Unlisted Brand - biotique rejuvanating mud face mask
Kalya 7/27/2012 4:54:00 PM
I did not like this mud mask at all. Firstly, mysterious ingredients and bad labeling. I need to get a clear idea of what chemicals I am going to be putting on my skin. Biotique labeling is horrible. The content mostly seems to be multani mitti (french clay) and they have charged exorbitantly for this! I had to throw my jar away as the mask was causing redness and some breakouts on the chin and forehead areas.

Fragrances -Johnson & Johnson - Johnson's Baby Cologne -Fresh Blossoms

I love this cologne, even though it is meant for babies. Has a light, fresh spring scent. Sadly, I do not see this at the department stores any more. :(

Moisturizers -Nivea - Creme
Kalya 7/26/2012 4:59:00 PM
This review is for the original Nivea creme in the BLUE tin, not the 'Nivea Soft' creme in the white jar. Nivea is a classic cream for me; a family association. I love the scent and texture. Not too greasy. The only ingredient in this cream that I am uneasy about is the 'lanolin alcohol'. Put on the face, this cream sometimes causes breakouts and I suspect the lanolin alcohol or the methyl* ingredients. I am very hesitant to use this on the face. This cream works great as a 'body butter'. In the USA we have access to the 'Made in Mexico' Nivea which seems to have less or no glycerin :( Update 7/12 - this cream works so well on scaly, chapped feet! I had been using J.R.Watkins foot creme which has fancy ingredients like peppermint essential oil and other nourishing oils but unfortunately, the Watkins foot creme was doing nothing for smoothing the skin. Using Nivea creme has helped a lot. Feet are now very soft and smooth. The Nivea is a lot cheaper than Watkins, too.

Skincare - Body -Queen Helene - 100% Cocoa Butter (stick)
Kalya 7/23/2012 12:03:00 PM
This is wonderful stuff. Can use this on chapped feet, lips, cold sores, elbows....(of course, different sticks, lol). The smell is chocolate-y, an added bonus as just the smell satisfies the chocolate craving and I do not have to gobble my daily quota of chocolate *candy*. Never really tried this on wrinkles or fine lines, etc so I dunno about that aspect of this magic stick. Packaging is also okay, for the price.

Treatments -Burt's Bees - Doctor Burt's Res-Q Ointment

This is just an amazing product. Love the rich green colour. It is like a miracle balm. Applied on a few bleeding, cracked areas of my heels, it healed those overnight. And, the balm does not have almond oil. Hurray! I am getting more of these mini-tubs now. Too bad this product is not easily available anymore. BB seems to make all their better products obsolete...

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Butic Twakalpa Hand And Foot Cream
Kalya 7/21/2012 8:53:00 AM
Some of the Butic products are really good and this cream is one of those. It has kokum butter which works miracles for scaly, dry skin. This cream is meant to be used on hands and feet. I use it for the heels and it works great. The smell can be a bit unusual but I am fine with that. The ingredients state - natural ingredients like Haldi, Gairak, Kokum, Beeswax, Tulas

Lotions/ Creams -Boots - Mediterranean Milk, Almond and Pistachio Body Butter
Kalya 7/21/2012 8:49:00 AM
This smells amazing. I am a bit wary of the cyclo* and cross-polymer ingredients in general and this cream is a concoction of chemicals. Works okay but I would not be buying this again. Somehow, Boots products are not for me.

Skincare - Body -Kiss My Face - Lavender and Shea Butter Ultra Moisturizer
Kalya 7/20/2012 9:43:00 AM
I like this moisturizer (and the honey calendula) too. The scent is nice and the ingredients are also mostly natural. The cream looks and has a silky texture. A bit difficult to spread like a lotion. Leaves a white residue that needs to be rubbed in. Overall, a great product.

Shampoo -Trader Joe's - Balanced Moisturizing Nourish Spa Shampoo
Kalya 7/19/2012 8:49:00 AM
This is a decent clarifying shampoo. It states 'moisturizing' on the bottle label but I still feel it is a bit drying instead, because of all the essential oils in it. Only when used with conditioner, does it work in a moisturizing way. Oh, but it does leave the scalp clean and the hair shiny. For the price, it is a good shampoo (not as good as shikakai but close). Scared to see the parabens on the list. WHY????

Treatments -Desert Essence - Dessert Essence Blemish Touch Stick
Kalya 7/18/2012 2:47:00 PM
This does absolutely nothing to help with the pimples or cysts. It stings the skin when applied and smells bad - medicinal type of smell. The product also seems to evaporate a lot. $10 down the drain for this one... :( I have moved on to using sandalwood paste to cure pimples.

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Green Tea
Kalya 7/16/2012 7:50:00 AM
okay scent; very pricey. Also the scent is rather strong when applied and dissipates in a few hours. I prefer the Atkinsons Eau de cologne (which sadly, I am not able to find in stores anymore!) to any other spray perfumes

very strong fragrance...that or the ingredients made the skin break out and itchy. Extremely mediocre product and super expensive too.

Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Walgreens Cold Cream
Kalya 7/16/2012 7:37:00 AM
woo hoo! I found a cold cream replacement for the old P**ds formula. There was only one jar of the Walgreens cold cream in the store. The store help was getting the product restocked and I thought of picking up a newer jar - but the new c-c has different ingredients than the original (mineral oil, water, beeswax, ceresin, borate, carbomer). Anyhow...this review is for the old Walgreens cream having the basic 5 ingredients. It is great. It feels a bit greasy and waxy when applied on the face. Overnight, it does the work. The face is clear, soft and clean in the morning. Happy about this product. As another reviewer mentioned, the beeswax content in this cream seems higher than in the P* cream. In general, I apply less cream on the t-zone, which is prone to breakouts :( Maybe I should try applying c-c on the t-zone area to see if the irritated skin is 'cleansed' out. Oil removes oil and dirt. Update 8/21 - this product is working really really well. My facial skin has been at it's best - clean and blemish-free, after using this cream the last 2-3 months. Not sure about the animal testing. I hope WG does not do any animal testing. :*( And I hope they keep this old, WORKING formula! 4.5/5
