Treatments -Ouidad - Deep Treatment
sailorj 8/29/2009 8:38:00 AM
If you have curly hair this is a must have imo. Ouidad's other products...I can take them or leave them, but I'll never be without the deep treatment. I use this once every 7-12 days with heat and it makes my curls more defined and less frizzy. It really heals my hair (I blow it straight a lot and the ends are abused even with regular trims). I have some pieces that have practically lost their curl thanks to my harsh styling ways but when I use this they start to spring into shape. Sometimes I'll run out and not buy it again for a month or so and I'm always amazed at the difference the first time I use it again. Nice thing is that you can buy a small size to try and see if you like it first. The large bottle lasts a pretty long time-I have a lot of hair.

Blush -Bobbi Brown - pot rouge for lips and cheeks- stonewashed pink
sailorj 8/28/2009 7:35:00 PM
I really like the BB pot rouges...they are a great way for this oily skinned girl to wear blush...so many powder blushes change color on me and and up too dark on my fair skin. These appear heavy but I promise a sheer application is possible, I can't get away with dark blush. It may take you a few tries to get it right as it did me but it's worth it. I rub my middle fingertip into the color, then pat it on the top of my hand to remove excess and tap it into my cheeks. Wait a few minutes before applying a second layer (I only need one, but like I said, I'm fair) to see how the color has settled. I love that it lasts all day and doesn't fade or darken. Some of the colors can be dabbed onto your lips in a rush too. Stonewashed pink is fantastic for me, a brownish peach as another review said. Bobbi's idea of a nude pink is what this is, if you are familiar with her line you know what I mean. I love how it warms me up in the winter.

Makeup Brushes -Bobbi Brown - Blush Brush
sailorj 8/28/2009 7:13:00 PM
Love Bobbi, but I just can't get good results from this brush. I always end up with a streaky application. I feel that it doesn't stand up to regular washing, kind of loses its shape. UPDATE: So my update is like four or five minutes later! I see that there is a new version of this brush that is out, I definitely have the old one. Maybe I'll have to check out the new one at the counter, as my faith in Bobbi never dies!

Moisturizers -Bobbi Brown - Vitamin Enriched Face Base
sailorj 8/28/2009 7:09:00 PM
In the more dry winter months, my oily, sensitive skin loves this. Makes a great base for foundation. Doesn't make my skin itch. Ask for a sample first. One pot of the regular size lasts for several months, so although it's pricey initially, I think you are getting a value. Having the skin type that I do I have a hard time finding a moisturizer that aides in applying foundation but doesn't over-moisturize my type of skin. Worth a try if you have the same problem as me. You can also try Laura Mercier's oil free foundation primer, although I haven't tried that in the winter yet (works great for me in the summer).

Makeup Brushes -Bobbi Brown - Powder Brush
sailorj 8/28/2009 7:02:00 PM
I adore this powder brush. Soft, perfectly applies powder to your face, doesn't shed, washes well. What else do you want? I have the long and short handle version (the latter for when I travel. Bought the long one before I knew there was a short one otherwise I would have just bought the short one).

Highlighters -Bobbi Brown - Nude Shimmerbrick
sailorj 8/28/2009 6:54:00 PM
I LOVE this. I had to have it when I saw it. A great highlighter. I'm very fair and was concerned this would be too dark on me, and while it does deposit color, it's as described-nude. I use Bobbi's face blender brush to apply but I'm sure there are plenty of better brushes out there. I use it because I have it and it works, but the brush is nothing special. Back to the shimmerbrick-this looks amazing if you are using neutral, matte shadow with a dark brown eyeliner and nude lips. Gorgeous. I am a faithful BB fan since forever, but I stayed away from the shimmerbricks until this summer of 2009. I never even swatched them at a counter-I assumed they would be glittery/sparkly. I don't find that to be the case at all. I've looked in all types of light and to me it always looks like a pearly sheen. In a night time setting this is so beautiful, but it isn't so obvious that it can't be worn during the day. I use a tiny bit of bronzer under this as well. Another product you can't go wrong with from Bobbi. One note-I hate the shimmerbrick packaging. So cheap, so be careful with it.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Mica Sparkle Eye Shadow
sailorj 8/28/2009 6:50:00 PM
This applies as very sheer, grown-up, silver sparkle, if there is such a thing. It's pretty, and much more wearable than the name 'sparkle' would imply. I wish it looked like it did in the pan though. A dark grey metallic with a touch of beige. Does anyone agree that it's such a pretty color in the pan but kind of a let down on your eye? Oh well, live in learn. I dot it on top of shadow at night sometimes.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Nude Eye Palette
sailorj 8/28/2009 6:46:00 PM
I just love this palette. I think I'll actually hit the pan on the matte nude shadow in the middle. So many colors in this range go to orange or dark on me but this one is really just a great nude that enhances my eyes. The liner shadow is great, an almost black black-brown. The shimmers don't show up much, but they are pretty and I always apply them (probably because you can't see them so well). I guess if the shimmer was really blatant it wouldn't be nude. And I believe the base color is the standard Navajo shade that Bobbi puts in her palettes-which I happen to love so it's great to have it there. For me, this is a palette that I can use everyday or everynight, and take on vacation as my only eye product short of mascara. I think it was definitely overpriced but...love it.

Liquid -Bobbi Brown - Skin Foundation SPF 15
sailorj 8/28/2009 5:54:00 PM
OMG this foundation looks so beautiful after applied. It smooths on beautifully with just your fingers (LOVE that) and the packaging is so hygenic. It's one of the few times that I applied a product and my face actually looked like the ad for the product. Amazing. Only problem is that they are right when they say it's for all skin types except very oily. I would also add acne prone. I hardly break out, but always do after I wear this. I have to blot a lot with this foundation, but I blame my skin, not the foundation. If it wasn't for the breakouts, I would wear this everyday (SAHM who needs something quick and easy). Back to the harder to apply but always reliable LM oil-free. If you have normal to dry skin you must request a sample of this and see for yourself. I'm jealous that you can use it.

Crème -Bobbi Brown - Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation
sailorj 8/28/2009 5:50:00 PM
I am such a Bobbi fan. I really really wanted to love this product. I hated it. I bought it when it first came out and just hated it. Fast forward a few years to this past winter of 2009 and I thought, what the heck, I must have been wrong, I'll try it again. I used it twice and was so disappointed I just threw it in the trash. It's very heavy, full coverage. My skin is in good shape for what it is. I can apply any foundation without any texture problems. Not this foundation. It shows every single tiny flaw that you have. After about 30 minutes, my face itched like crazy. And my skins natural oils (of which there are a lot) separate this and make it look heavier and more of a masque than when you first put it on. Don't bother. Usually I just leave it for people to decide for themselves, but really, don't bother. I wish Bobbi had more foundation options for oily skin.

Shampoo -Bumble & Bumble - Gentle Shampoo
sailorj 8/28/2009 5:01:00 PM
I don't find this to be a gentle shampoo. That being said it's my favorite shampoo and the one I use most often. I have fine, frizzy, curly hair and a lot of it. I also have a very greasy, sensitive scalp that I feel needs to be cleaned every day otherwise I just feel uncomfortable and dirty. This does the job. For awhile I was using whatever drugstore shampoo I could find that was really strong. Then I would condition and style as usual. My stylist commented on how dry my hair was and said I should try something more moisturizing. I bought a tiny bottle of this among others to figure out what would work (found on my own) and haven't stopped using it for at least four years. I always follow with Super Rich Conditioner. (The stylist noticed my hair was in better condition at the next visit.) It leaves my scalp super clean and really removes excess product residue. I don't think this is what people who buy a shampoo that is labelled as gentle expect, but it works for me. I love the smell too...honey and floral but doesn't linger. If I didn't have the scalp issues, I would use the Creme de Coco shampoo, but that is just way to heavy for my scalp, and I have to wash twice with it (only once with the Gentle shampoo). Using this everyday, when I buy the largest size it lasts me at least 3 months, two pumps per wash.

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Spray De Mode
sailorj 8/28/2009 4:53:00 PM
The best hairspray. Love it. Does what it says on the can. Brushable hold. Lots of memory. It's what hairspray should be. I'm a Bb fanatic in general. They work for me. Take or leave my reviews on their products for what it's worth. If you don't use this everyday, every few weeks or so do a quick spray out of the nozzle to keep it from clogging.

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Surf Spray
sailorj 8/28/2009 4:49:00 PM
It's too heavy for me to spray into my fine, frizzy, curly hair when I wear it curly, it just makes it so unbelievably kinky I can't handle iit. But it's great to spritz on your crown when blowing out your hair (just a little!) for volume and texture. Love it.

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Defrizz
sailorj 8/28/2009 4:48:00 PM
Apply this in sections to your frizzy hair, blow dry straight, then apply Bb Does It All or Spray de Mode and your hair will go longer without frizzing in any weather than anything else you have ever tried. You can apply it to your hair before or after you dry it. Works either way. It's almost easier when your hair is dry b/c you can really see how much you are using. The small bottle lasts me forever as I only use this when the NJ weather is really humid and miserable, which is a small part of the year. I don't think there is a better serum for the purposes of frizz protection related to humid weather. I've tried so many (I'm a hair product junkie). I rate packaging quality on all of my reviews based on functionality b/c the beauty or cache of the packaging doesn't concern me, how effective it is in dispensing/storing the product is all that matters.

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Thickening Spray
sailorj 8/28/2009 4:42:00 PM
I regularly use this to blow dry my hair straight and it adds a bit of volume and makes for a great blow out in general. I love it. Doesn't leave residue, bottle lasts a long time, a staple in my styling product lineup.
