Shampoo -Matrix - color smart Protective Luminating System Shampoo
catwoman1275 4/23/2007 2:20:00 PM
I love the smell of this shampoo but haircolor still seems to fade. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong...maybe because I wash my hair twice because it's so oily, or too warm water...don't know. Might be the sodium laureth sulfate. I will probably try a SLS-free shampoo after my next haircolor appointment.
Moisturizers -Peter Thomas Roth - Max All Day Moisture Defense SPF 30
catwoman1275 4/21/2007 1:23:00 AM
I like this moisturizer for the most part but it is soooo expensive and I go through this faster than any other product, so I only pump it halfway to use it sparingly. It states it is oil free, but it feels somewhat greasy after I apply it, but it absorbs fast. And I wish there was a way I could tell when the bottle is near empty.
Scrubs -Peter Thomas Roth - Botanical Buffing Beads
catwoman1275 4/21/2007 1:18:00 AM
Love it! Smells nice and isn't irritating. Peter Thomas Roth claims this exfoliates the skin to allow other products to penetrate and perform better-and he's right. I use this before I use my cleanser in the morning and it lathers better and my skin feels very smooth.
Self Tanners -Banana Boat - VitaSkin Instant Sunless Tanning Lotion-Dark
catwoman1275 4/21/2007 1:12:00 AM
Too bad this self tanner has been discontinued. I used this for my wedding in 2003 and it looked perfectly natural. I bought about a dozen of these when I just happened to see it at Dollar Tree. (and I almost NEVER go to dollar stores; only about 2-3 times per year) I love the natural look it gave me but my only complaint was that the tinted lotion rubbed off on clothing and furniture, but that didn't give it a streaky or splotchy effect. When I run out of these I will be using Loreal Sublime Bronze. A woman at the store saw me looking at it and said that it was a good product and that she had used it in the last few days. That also looked natural, and she said she was as fair skinned as I am. (I'm a MAC NC15)
Brows -Make Up For Ever - Make Up For Ever Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector
catwoman1275 3/27/2007 12:31:00 AM
This is a very good brow definer. I don't like the effect of a pencil and most powders wear off too soon. I have a severe problem with sweating and this stuff didn't budge. But after wearing this for 12+ hours, I could see it starting to fade. The reason I am only giving this product 4 lipsticks is because of the poor shade selection. I use the lightest shade and it is too warm toned. The other 2 shades are too dark. I wish there were an ash blonde or taupe shade.
Powder -Vincent Longo - Pressed Powder - Translucent
catwoman1275 2/23/2007 10:04:00 PM
This is the best pressed powder to carry in my purse for touch-ups. I usually use loose powder when I first apply my makeup, but it doesn't fit in my purse. Vincent Longo's gives a nice, smooth, matte finish and doesn't require as frequent touch-ups as other powders. I like that this powder is translucent, so if I tan I don't have to go out and buy another powder to match my skin tone. This is a little pricier, but I have seen other translucent pressed powders out there that are pricier and you get less for your money. UPDATE: when I saw my face a few times in natural lighting, I looked like a ghost and the powder looked cakey.
I don't think there is anything spectacular about this product - it's just a standard astringent. I like the fact that it's fragrance and dye free, keeps my acne under control and does not dry out my skin, but this is ridiculously overpriced. I have used other astringents/toners that work just as good, if not better.
Cleansers -Peter Thomas Roth - Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel
catwoman1275 2/16/2007 11:41:00 AM
When I first used this product, I loved it. But after several weeks, I ended up with tiny red dots on my face, especially in the cheek area. My skin also seemed over-sensitive.
I love the shade Tonga on me! I like how its size is larger than most other pans of blush, it allows more even application on the brush. I love the soft, smooth texture it gives and the color applies evenly. However, my biggest bi*** about this product is the way it's packaged. I wish the lid would screw on or this blush were in a compact. The lid comes off rather easily and I'm sure if I put it in my makeup bag the lid would fall off and my makeup bag's other contents would scratch the cake.
This is now my HG concealer. I had used Prescriptives Camouflage Cream or LM Secret Camouflage, but this one is the best so far. I thought I would need NC15 for my pale skin but NC20 actually matches better. I still have not found a concealer that doesn't settle into the fine lines around my eyes, but with this concealer it's the least noticeable. It also doesn't slip or change color.
This concealer gives good coverage but it is very thick and very difficult to blend, even with a concealer brush. A makeup artist told me to put some on my hand first, then rub a brush into it to warm and soften it, then apply it with a brush, but that seems wasteful of the product for as much money as it costs. It is also a pain trying to get just the right mix (or blend of the 2 shades). It also settles into the fine lines around my eyes.
None of the shades match my skin. I have very pale (MAC NC15) skin. Stay Ivory is too peachy-pink looking on me and Stay Light is too dark. But I do like the texture of this foundation and it is easy to blend. Unfortunately, most of Clinique's foundation shades are not natural looking-they are too peachy-pink. The saleswomen at several nearby Clinique counters say that this is a frequent complaint, and I have e-mailed Clinique about this several times without a reply.
Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Stylist Mascara ] [DISCONTINUED]
catwoman1275 7/16/2006 8:30:00 PM
I thought the model's eyelashes were beautiful in the ad for this mascara, so I decided to try it. It thickens and lengthens my lashes, and I was amazed at how much it lifted my lashes. I truly don't need a lash curler with this. But it clumps like you wouldn't believe and actually coats my lashes a little too thick. Sigh...
Eyeliner -Bourjois - Liquid Eyeliner - Liner Parfait
catwoman1275 7/7/2006 7:22:00 PM
I love this liquid eyeliner. Usually, I use Laura Mercier's Ebony cake eyeliner with the flat eyeliner brush, but when I am in a hurry and don't have time I use this. It is long wearing, doesn't flake or peel, and it is easy to remove. I will definitely buy this again.
The brush is too flexible (if you know what I mean) It is also short and fine, and the liquid is thin. This eyeliner also flakes.
