Skincare - Face -Philosophy - Make-Up Optional 4-piece Kit
rated 4 of 5

I'm a bit up in the air about this product. I started using this by first trying "Hope in a jar". I know others have complained about the smell but I actually like the smell. I also like the way my skin looks using this. However my complaint is when I use it my eyes burn! This burn does go away a little bit after a minute so I can tolerate it (what we do for beauty).
After using "Hope in a jar" I received a sample of "Purity Made Simple" and really liked this face wash. It got rid of all traces of makeup for me and again, I really liked the smell. It's fresh and clean smelling.
I decided to purchase this kit at Nordstrom for $78.00 (I read here Sephora sells it for $68.00, I know where I'm going next) just because buying two of these products from the kit will cost me more separately than just purchasing the kit.
Out of the kit I love the face wash and the moisturizer obviously but I'm not sure if I like the serum (Hope is Not Enough) or the lip and eye cream (Hope in a Tube eye/lip).
The serum really doesn't spread and it feels like you are applying water. I haven't seen any difference in my skin since I've been using it but I haven't had any adverse affects from using it as well.
The lip and eye cream scares me. If you read the ingredients it contains mineral oil. Isn't mineral oil known to cause breakouts? It's very thick and doesn't sink in very well and we are to apply it to the thin areas of skin around the eyes and mouth? From what I know if these areas breakout it's very, very painful. I'm not sure I like this.
Microdelivery Peel samples: Haven't tried it yet but the salesrep did demo it on me and I loved it! It smelled nice and really made the skin on my hands look awesome.
All and all the kit is worth it if you like these products. Even if you do not use all of them it's still worth purchasing the full kit instead of just one or two items separately.

Lipstick -Clinique - Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick- Vintage Wine
rated 4 of 5

I use to love this red. It was the only red that really looked good on me. These days it's not quite my color. I love the formula of this lipstick though. It lasts a long while and it's not drying.

Conditioner -Frederic Fekkai - Moisturizing Conditioner with Shea Butter

Again Love, Love, love this stuff... Smells great and really, really, really works. Great if you have dry hair. I don't use too much of this product and it lathers up great. I also love the conditioner. It is pricey but you don't need a ton of it. It doesn't leave my hair greasy which is a great bonus.

Ugh! Frederic Fekkai ! Why??!! I love your other products but this stuff is horrid. It left my hair dry and tangled not soft and conditioned like your shea butter collection does. Yuck! Will not purchase again!

Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Smooth Hair
rated 4 of 5
Cymbaline 10/11/2007 6:03:00 PM

I've always been a fan of Frederic Fekkai however this isn't one of my favorites. It works though so I can't knock it too much it's just it doesn't seem to do anything that Frederic Fekkai's glossing cream with olive oil can do and I much prefer the way the glossing cream makes my hair feel.

Primer/ Corrector -Philosophy - The Present Clear Makeup
rated 5 of 5
Cymbaline 10/11/2007 5:55:00 PM

I love the way my skin looks with this product on. If you can imagine what I'm describing. I put it on after using Hope in a Jar and let it set for two minutes (as instructed) come back and my skin looks softer, small skin problems seem to have disappeared and my skin looks smooth. I can almost say I could wear just this and no base and feel great.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types
rated 4 of 5
Cymbaline 10/11/2007 5:20:00 PM

Ok - I love this moisturizer. My skin looks so much nicer the short time I've been using it. I'm not sensitive to the smell of the product so I don't think it smells all that bad. I have two problems with it however. 1. My eyes burn from the fumes after I put it on. and 2. It doesn't contain any sunscreen.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Zeno
rated 5 of 5
Cymbaline 8/17/2007 1:53:00 PM

Introduction
The Zeno Acne Clearing Device is simply a handheld, portable electronic device which applies controlled heat directly to the pimple through a metal pad for 2.5 minutes.

The Zeno website says that in two to three treatments, spread over 24 hours will clear up most pimples quickly.
My Experience I've had the Zeno for one day and have tried it on my pimple and have found that after the first treatment the large, fat pimple I had was significantly reduced in size.
My second treatment, done four hours later reduced the pimple even further. My skin type
I have combination skin which gets very dry around under my eyes and is oily on my chin. I break out occasionally on my chin and they are the big fat kind. How is feels
I do not have sensitive skin so the tip did not feel hot to me. It felt warm but not hot. What I do not like
I do not like the price, I paid 185.00 dollars for the device. Zeno also has the device rigged where the tip only heats up (a treatment) 90 times and then you have to purchase a new tip. This to me is a way for Zeno to continue to have your business.
Replacement tips cost 35.00 dollars each. I'm lucky that I only get a pimples occasionally.

Bottom Line
It's expensive but it works. I'm not the first person this device has worked for so to me it's worth the money.

Lip Gloss -Bath and Body Works - Tutti Dolci Chocolate Fondue Lip Gloss
rated 3 of 5
Cymbaline 7/9/2007 12:57:00 PM

I think I'm the only one who didn't care for this. Yes it does smell and taste like chocolate but more like fake chocolate which can't be blamed.
I got it for free thankfully.
The product is thick and to me a bit messy.
I didn't care for the color either, it came out a bit too brown.

Powder -Pur Minerals - Pressed Powder Foundation
rated 3 of 5
Cymbaline 7/9/2007 12:54:00 PM

I wish I read the reviews on the product before purchasing it. Instead I listened to a friend of mine that seems to like this product.
Both of us have been wanting something that is less messy than Bare Minerals to carry around with us. I want it because I like to do my make up on the go rather than do it at home
I had originally found I loved Philosophy's "the Supernatural" mineral makeup which has a puff applicator but Sephora was out of my color so I tried PUR instead.
The concept was nice, it was still mineral makeup which I love but in the convience of a compact. Perfect.
Well it didn't really come in my color, I don't feel it's my color at least. The rep in Ulta convinced me that it was but I always felt it was a bit too dark on me. The shade lighter was a bit too light on me but I may have preferred that instead.
Anyways that doesn't talk about quality of the product because you may find a color that matches you.

I think the quality of the product is horrible. It leaves my nose shiny, the coverage is thick and you can see the powder on yourself which isn't the way mineral makeup should look like.
Let me tell you about the shine, it's weird. I don't have oily skin but with this stuff for some reason I do! I put some of this stuff on 20 minutes before I met my friend and when she came and picked me up I looked at her mirror in her car and I had an oily nose. What the heck??
I wont be buying this stuff again ever, I wish I could get rid of what I do have!

Foundations -Philosophy - the supernatural airbrush canvas
rated 5 of 5
Cymbaline 7/9/2007 12:37:00 PM

I purchased this on Saturday and so far I really like it. I had tried it before at Sephora but they were out of my color. I use the color "Natural" and it really matches my skin tone. Unfortunately Philosophy does make limited shades of this so my friend who was with me didn't find one that matched her much fairer skin tone.

I started looking at this product after I fell in love with Bare Minerals but unfortunately Bare Minerals isn't very portable! I hate how messy it is.
I went to Sephora and they suggested Philosophy's brand of mineral makeup, I love it but they were out :(
My friend uses PUR which comes in a very nice compact, I tried using that as well but the color is way too dark for my skin tone and the next one down from that is too light. I felt like I was wearing a mask and even with heavy coverage my skin looked oily after just a few minutes. Yuck! Also PUR's sponge is horrible!

Ok back to the brand I'm actually reviewing..
Yes Philosophy brand comes with a little powder puff on top but you can unscrew it and use the powder just like you would with bare minerals. I happen to like the powder puff, my skin isn't oily so that may make a difference. It's very easy , I can apply it on the go and there isn't any mess.
The top has a mirror on it which is also very nice. The coverage is medium on my skin but it doesn't leave a ton of powder all over the place and it doesn't leave your skin looking "made up".

Shampoo -Ojon - Ultra Hydrating shampoo
rated 1 of 5
Cymbaline 5/29/2007 7:08:00 PM

I didn't like this, the shampoo didn't foam up and I used it right after the restorative treatment and it didn't wash the treatment stuff out of my hair. I had to rewash my hair with another product to get the restorative treatment out of my hair.
Alot of people complain about the smell of this product line. At first I couldn't stand the smell but it grew on me. It smell like cocco beans to me now and I actually enjoy it.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Feria Haircolor
rated 5 of 5
Cymbaline 5/29/2007 4:59:00 PM

I love Feria! I have very dark black hair which I can't stand! Anways I use the chocolate cherry color to get my hair to stand out (so you can see it when I wear a black shirt for example) and it brings out my highlights, and the red is great with my skin tone.

By the way for those of you who love the conditioner (I know I do) you can find the conditioner for sale in a large tube at Sally's beauty store.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Finishing Creme
rated 1 of 5
Cymbaline 5/29/2007 4:49:00 PM

When I used this product my hair was very frizzy and dry. I haven't tried this in a long while but I remember it because I applied it my dry, frizzy hair and it made my hair feel gross! It didn't help my hair at all and it just sat on my hair. I never repurchased this stuff again after that!
