Lipstick -NARS - Pago Pago
rated 4 of 5
violetmist 4/8/2012 11:39:00 AM

This soft colour is meant to be layered not just worn on its own. National MUA Jenny Smith created a great lip for me as follows: lip liner over the whole lip in Jilted Love, then Pago Pago topped with Coeur Sucre lip gloss. The liner is a light coral/pink and I was thinking this would wash me out but I had faith and what turned out was pure artistry. My lips have great dimension. So a little bit of work is necessary to get that superb look. I have highly pigmented lips and this combination presents a beautiful complement to a dark eye. No I wouldn't repurchase as I am sure I'll be on to the next thing when I run through the tube.

Lip Gloss -Bobbi Brown - Rich Color Gloss in Pink Cocoa
rated 4 of 5
violetmist 4/4/2012 8:18:00 PM

I got this gloss to layer on top of Pink Peony lipstick just to tone it down a bit when needed. Pink cocoa is a beige with pink undertones so it is a good basic when you want to warm up a bright colour. It did a beautiful job in combination with Pink Peony. But to my surprise it looked amazing on its own and it just looked so blah in the tube. My lips are highly pigmented and this gave me a natural but alive looking nude. Typically I can't do a nude lip. I am fair (BB sand) but the high pigmentation in my lips gives my face balance. Nature knows what she's doing. This worked like a charm. So beachy! The formula is the best of BB with a nice colour saturation and a magnificent texture with a hint of mint flavor. Lasts a bit longer than typical gloss. Now it is in a larger size too (equivalent to Nars or Chanel). I love it and it gets a 4 because it needs more road testing.

Polishes -Essie - E-nuf is E-nuf

I don't know what the hell this name is about but the colour is a fantastic orange/coral with a subtle pink undertone. It is terrifically flattering to light skin, not too over the top but a nice pop of Spring colour. This will be terrific with work outfits and will bring things up a notch. A nice, and reasonably priced accessory for spring 2012. The formula is the best I have ever used and I typically use Chanel or Nars. The fact is that the formula is dependent on the pigments not necessarily the brand.

Instead of making me look like I had been at the beach this made me look like I went to the carnival. My hair looked and felt like cotton candy.

Blush -Bobbi Brown - nude pink
rated 2 of 5
violetmist 3/18/2012 11:49:00 AM

I checked with MUA regularly before I purchased this and without any reviews I decided to go for it. It's ok. The colour is soft pink in the pan, softer than any of her other blushes but on me it pulls in red undertones that aren't flattering and I have the type of complexion that this blush is made for (fair/med.;neutral - Sand foundation in BB). I layered it as a pop of colour against desert rose and that seems to have saved it. That along with Nars Zen as a contour and Pink Quartz shimmer brick as a highlight. All this and I already have high cheek bones. Guess this just isn't for me.

Powder -Bobbi Brown - Skin Foundation Mineral Makeup SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
violetmist 3/16/2012 1:41:00 PM

I waited and waited for Bobbi to come out with a mineral foundation because I wanted a more yellow shade. My skin looks great in her foundations but for the summer in humid weather, I need a mineral makeup so I don't look greasy. I have been using Laura Mercier which is a terrific formula and I thought that I would get the same quality with Bobbi Brown but no. It has no life to it unlike LM which has just a touch of luminiation. It actually makes me look like I'm having a bad day. I am going to use Bare Essentials mineral veil or one of their radiances over it to see if I can make it look better. Very disappointing. Also, the jar is very skimpy in comparison to Laura Mercier.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Long Wear Cream
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/15/2012 1:45:00 PM

Bobbi added new cream eye shadows and they are not like the old batch. Colours that remind me of the Chanel cream shadows for Fall 2011: Smokey Topaz and Berry Noir. She's sexing it up a bit at last! The formula is also improved over the existing one - more slip and easier to apply.

Eyeliner -Bobbi Brown - Long Wear Eye Pencil - black navy
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/15/2012 1:40:00 PM

I have horded Nars long wear pencils and now BB has come out with the same product (it was just a matter of time) in fabulous colours. They are creamy, easy to apply and LAST. So while I love Nars, BB has a nicer range of colours. I got black navy which is really the only blue that looks ok with blue eyes. I know this is going to be sold out so I am going to stock up.

Bronzers -NARS - Laguna
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/14/2012 4:31:00 PM

What a fabulous, natural look for fair skin. Laguna is a wonderful product. However, Bobbi Brown bronzer in Light is the SAME EXACT THING. I am more loyal to Nars because it seems like BB has lost whatever inventiveness they had and have been copying more from other successful products.

Makeup Brushes -Bobbi Brown - Concealer Blending Brush
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/14/2012 4:21:00 PM

Most of my makeup brushes are MAC with a few Nars and Trish McEvoy. I threw my BB brushes away when I became more sophisticated about makeup - it was the right thing to do. However, I kept her blending brush and just picked this Concealer Blending Brush up on a recommendation. I am amazed at what it can do. Normally used my fingers and thought that was ok but this really improves the performance of my concealer (Laura Mercier) by laying down the product so that it is not perceptible but does its job. Plus I don't have that build up in the fine lines that seemed unavoidable. BB makes another type of concealer brush but this "Blending" one is fabulous for under the eyes. I even tried layering more product on and I get the same beautiful result. I use Armani corrector underneath and there is no cakey look. This brush is a magic wand!

Lip Gloss -Bobbi Brown - Shimmer Lip Gloss - Rose Gold Sugar
rated 4 of 5
violetmist 3/14/2012 1:17:00 PM

Pinky brown with golden highlights. Does a marvelous job over Pink Peony lip colour toning it town. Worn on its own is a soft shimmer which is so much more natural than a light pink because it blends in with your complexion. Will look great on steamy summer days.

Eye Shadow -NARS - New York
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/14/2012 12:56:00 PM

Beautiful burgundy with the right amount of cool brown to anchor it and not look muddy but prevent it from being too harsh. I dare say this looks extremely natural on blue eyes, in the crease, on the outer edge or as a liner but NOT all at once. Just pick one! This is a "date night" colour because it is highly seductive making blue eyes look out of this world. Although it would be fine as a day time look if restrained.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Iceland Duo
rated 4 of 5
violetmist 3/13/2012 3:06:00 PM

I just pulled this out from my "Inactive" draw and it is so spot on for this season. You wouldn't know by looking at this not only what it is but how versatile and useful it is. The colours look white in the pan so please take the time to sample them because they come alive when they are on your skin. I've never seen another product like it. One is light lavendar, soft sheen of colour that is amazingly beautiful on its own (I use it as a base with Grenadine) and the other is a soft shimmer green which is terrific on the inner corners of the eyes and a highligher. Worn together they are ethereal (anchored with a bit of liner, preferably black) BUT the real magic is what these two colours will do when blended over other shadows. So it may seem like an indulgence but it will extend your shadow wardrobe and take it to very interesting places.

Eye Shadow -NARS - Brumes Duo
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/10/2012 7:30:00 PM

I'm the first blue-eyed review of this product and I'm quite surprised. The sophistication of these colours is amazing and as I always say what looks blah in the pan turns out to be marvelous on your eyes. The brown is cool with blue/grey undertones and the blue is a true navy which means it has black undertones (that's what navy is) and slight shimmer. The brown side makes blue eyes advance out about a foot in front of your face it is that enhancing. The dark matte blends out extremely smooth and sheer so it has impact but it is not piled on. The navy works well in the crease better than a liner and it brings drama so unless you wear just a bit of this on the outer corner I would leave it alone for day. The brown however is unequalled and frankly while it mixes well with other light shadows I would leave it to speak for itself. I feel this one swipe of colour pays off so well in sophistication that it speaks volumes. Definitely a downtown look with out trying too hard and isn't that the point.

Lips -Revlon - ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait
rated 5 of 5
violetmist 3/5/2012 9:45:00 AM

Never one for colour cosmetics from the drug store - they are always 2nd rate. But this one is amazing. A peach/pink with glimmer speckles that give a gentle pop (very wearable, not detectable). The formula is luxurious and extremely hydrating and it lasts. It pulls more pink on my pigmented lips winnning the MLBB award for this season. This is going to be the top colour of my Spring/Summer makeup wardrobe. I am thrilled to have it and thrilled that it only costs $8.
