Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Color Correcting in Smashing Color Blend
tricksi 3/11/2008 11:57:00 AM
I recently bought the green color corrector primer since I have redness on my cheeks. I am not a big fan of primer - can't see how it made much difference on my skin the few previous times I tried it. I agree with others that the green doesn't really reduce the redness much. I think my skin feels very silky after applying so that is nice. Unfortunately, it does not work with all my types of foundations. (I am a foundation junky always on the search for the perfect one that will work with my redness/flakiness/combo skin). I wore it yesterday with a light liquid foundation after I moisturized my face and it worked great In conjunction with my foundation, it helped cover up my cheek redness and my daughter remarked I didn't look like I was wearing makeup. Today I tried it with a compact foundation that dries to a powder finish on a non moisturized face and it balled up and make my skin look flaky. I have yet to try it with a mineral foundation. I will do so tomorrow. I think letting the skin rest a few minutes after applying and applying it sparingly will help with the balling and flakyness. I think a light moisturizer in the dry spots might be necessary too to get optimum performance. Overall it's a decent primer but I think I can find something comparable for less money so will not be repurchasing. Edit 3/18/08: I tried the primer again a few minutes after I lightly moisturized my face and let it rest for about 5 minutes before applying a mineral foundation. It caught up a bit in some dry skin I have by my cheek so the balling isn't just due to foundation but apparently appears to be a normal part of application for those without smooth skin. Even so, it was much better for me than the previous try applying it to non moisturized skin. I used my mineral foundation and it turned out fine. I am not a big fan of powder foundation (seems to emphasize my dry flaky rosacea skin) but with the primer, it was better than without. As I said before, I won't be repurchasing since performance for me wasn't worth the cost.

Cleansers -Lumene - Milky Touch cleansing milk
tricksi 2/25/2008 3:41:00 PM
I thought this product did a decent job. I would rub it onto my skin and remove with wet cotton pads or a wet warm washcloth. I don't wear makeup too often so it did a fine job at removing daily grime. I think it is more suited for those with dry skin than those with combination or oily skin. Unfortunately, I couldn't stand the smell of it! I don't know if it was just my bottle or what, but it stunk. So I ended up tossing it out with about 3/4ths of a bottle left. I got it on clearance so no great loss. I like the formula and would rebuy if it wasn't stinky.

Moisturizers -L'Occitane - Ultra Moisturizing Daycare SPF 15 Shea Line [DISCONTINUED]
tricksi 2/25/2008 3:33:00 PM
I like this moisturizer for winter days when my skin feels parched or in need of comfort. I don't tend to use it when my skin becomes red and irritated because I prefer products more designed for sensitive skin but as a go to moisturizer for normal days, it works quite well. I won't be using it though in the summer months because it's too rich for that time of the year but I can see how those with very dry skin in a less humid environment could really benefit from using the product year round.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
tricksi 2/25/2008 3:25:00 PM
I don't much care for this mascara. The brush is too big &/or would work better if the bristles were longer since it's hard to get all the tiny lashes at the end of the eyes. It made my lashes look kind of clumpy and I find it doesn't lengthen my lashes enough to justify buying it again.

Mascara -Bare Escentuals - Big Tease Mascara
tricksi 2/25/2008 3:20:00 PM
I like the brush on this mascara. It made my lashes look big and full. Unfortunately, when I got home later on in the day and looked at myself, I saw where it smeared badly! I was so embarassed to think I was out shopping with racoon eyes. I'd rather go out with no mascara (or make up at all) then go out with mascara that smears since it just looks like I don't know anything about how to apply or wear makeup.

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15
tricksi 2/25/2008 3:14:00 PM
I tend to have combination skin with red dry cheeks and an oily T-Zone and look for products that don't aggravate my sensitive skin that are easily found at the drugstore since I am on a budget. I have been using this product fairly regularily for about a month now and neither love it nor hate it. While it didn't aggravate my skin, it didn't feel like my skin was pampered or hydrated very well. No more than any other supposed calming cream. The pump hasn't clogged, but I also don't like the dried lotion that spits out from the top when pumping it. The smell is fine but I would prefer a fragrance free product for my sensitive skin. I don't plan on buying again.

Liquid -Almay - Skin-Smoothing Foundation with Kinetin SPF 15 [DISCONTINUED]
tricksi 2/19/2007 11:15:00 AM
I like this foundation quite a bit. It is a heavier feeling foundation which I find provides good coverage since I have rosacea and always am on the lookout for something to cover my cheek redness. My skin feels smooth after applying. It doesn't settle into my fine lines and wrinkles. It is probably too heavy for summertime when my skin tends to be more oily so I will need to evaluate it then to see if I still like it.

Crème -Cover Girl - Advanced Radiance Restorative Cream [DISCONTINUED]
tricksi 2/19/2007 11:07:00 AM
I generally like the color of this foundation -it matches my skin pretty well and does a decent job covering the my redness. Unfortunately, it also showed how dry and flaky my skin is. I have rosacea but not overly oily skin. Mostly dry, flaky and red through the cheeks. Combined with the dry weather it's gotten worse and I haven't been able to exfoliate without aggravating my sensitive skin. So I thought a cream foundation might do the trick to provide a bit of coverage without emphasizing my dryness. Unfortunately not. I will keep it and try when summer comes and my skin is less affected by cold weather. Possibly then it will ok if sparingly applied.

Gels/Soaps -St. Ives - Mineral Therapy Body Wash
tricksi 11/3/2006 11:46:00 AM
I enjoy this product a lot. It doesn't dry out my skin and the fragrance is very pleasant. I think it smells almost like the Oatmeal/Shea butter body wash also made by St. Ives. I compared ingredients and they are surprisingly alike. So I figure I will probably purchase again but won't believe the hype that the minerals in this formulation are really that special.

Lip Gloss -NARS - Orgasm
tricksi 11/3/2006 11:38:00 AM
I am not a lip gloss lover. I have always prefered lipstick or very sheer types of lip washes. I got this because of the rave reviews about the color. I like it! It makes my (large) lips look sexy, is youthful looking and the texture is good - not too sticky or gummy. My husband also thinks it looks great on me. I would like it to have a better flavor though. I am partial to the fig flavor that Estee Lauder does with their glosses.

Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush
tricksi 11/3/2006 11:35:00 AM
I got this blush (along with the coordinating lipgloss) from Sephora. I like the color though I wish it had less (or barely any) shimmer. The color is fine on my yellow toned skin but I wear it very, very lightly applied. I prefer to accent my eye or lips. And the packaging is very good. I will probably not repurchase since I expect this product will last me 10 years at the rate I'm using it and I prefer more of a pink (verses peach) undertone in my blush.

Moisturizers -Ponds - Radiance Restored Age-Defying Skin Brightening SPF 15
tricksi 11/3/2006 11:27:00 AM
I picked up this product as a less expensive drugstore alternative to pricer brands. Just like foundations, I am always on the hunt for the perfect moisturizer. Especially if I can find it at the local drugstore. I have aging skin, redness and occasionally sensitive skin. I don't have problems with acne but do have blackheads/enlarged pores. I feel this product is about one of the best I've tried from a drugstore brand for a daily type moisturizer. It's light, easily absorbed, has not irritated my skin and I don't mind the smell. I agree that I would like the SPF to be higher, but this is fine for daily use. I will switch it out with more intensive moisturizing products come wintertime and this might not work for the humid summertime as my face produces more oil & sweat but for fall & spring, I expect this will be fine.

Cleansers -Olay - Total Effects Age Defying Wet Cleansing Cloths
tricksi 11/3/2006 11:17:00 AM
I bought these cleansing cloths because I was looking for a 1 step cleansing product for the evening. I don't want to wet my face, lather and rinse (too much hassle for me) at night so these fit the bill. Pluses: cleaned fine. Not overly wet. Very convienent. Since you don't rinse your face you feel the product continues to work because of the residue left on your skin. It does not irritate my red, somewhat sensitive skin. Negatives - packaging could be better. I didn't feel it was very exfoliating. I could see how it might not clean well if you wore much makeup. Since I wear makeup only about once per week (I'm a homemaker), I don't need intensive cleaning and feel these do fine to clean off my daily moisturizer/sunscreen and oil that has accumulated during the day.

Palettes -Laura Geller - Chocolate Fix 4 Piece Color Collection
tricksi 9/24/2006 4:08:00 PM
I ordered this from Sephora after seeing it presented on QVC. The eyeshadow color is very pretty. Just a enough shimmer to it to make the eyes pop. I also really like the cheek color and it is very sheer. I think the mascara is a waste in the kit. I would've rather seen an eyeliner or a small compact of balance and brighten or regular face powder. But since they are trying to make a kit with the basics, I can understand there being a mascara. The lip shine color is pretty too with nice staying power though I would prefer it be a more creamy matte or sheer formulation verses metallic. With the abundance of "radiance" type face powders out there, adding shimmery eyes, cheeks and lips is going overboard. I want shimmer to be an accent verses the foundation of my makeup. I expect to wear the colors in this kit more as seperates than all at once and feel the eyeshadow and blush make it all worthwhile.

Fragrances -Clean - Clean
tricksi 9/24/2006 3:54:00 PM
I got a sample of this from Sephora. I like it well enough. Better than Philosophy Amazing Grace which also says it's a "clean" fragrance. It is long lasting and smells like soap. One thing, don't wear too much or your nose will get irritated. I won't buy it because I don't like it well enough to justify spending the money.
