Lotions/ Creams -Fresh - Brown sugar body cream
rated 3 of 5
toyarosie 8/30/2009 6:44:00 PM

I haven't purchased this product but I just spent a week in Vegas (we don't have a Sephora in Halifax - yet) and tested it multiple times, as well as had a sample of the cream to try during my trip. While I am absolutely addicted to the fabulous lemony sugary scent, it does not last!!!! For me, while the cream did make my skin feel nice and soft, I could find another cream that would do the same for much cheaper. My whole purpose for buying this cream would be for the scent, but if it doesn't linger on me then there is no point to spend $35US. Too bad, as it is probably one of the most beautifully scented moisturizers I've tried.

Blush -NARS - Taj Mahal
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 8/21/2009 9:47:00 AM

This is definitely my all-time fav blush, although I will only wear it on warm summer/early fall days. I tried it at the NARS counter several times before buying as I felt it was too shimmery...however, now that I wear it regularly and am comfortable in its application, I realize that it isn't shimmery at all but rather imparts this fabulous glow to my skin. It is the ultimate in summertime beauty. I don't know what this would look like on a skintone that is paler and maybe with more pink tones to it, but on my caramel-coloring it looks fab. The wear is fairly exceptional, by the end of day I need to touch up but it has lasted fairly well through this insanely humid summer. Another concern I had was that because it isn't matte, that it would make my oily skin look oiler, but as long as I don't put it too far inward on the apples of my cheeks, I have no problems. I doubt I will ever NEED to repurchase, but if I ever did run out I would definitely buy it again.

Treatments -Burt's Bees - Naturally Ageless Serum
rated 3 of 5
toyarosie 8/13/2009 10:17:00 PM

Can't say I'm impressed with this product, especially trying it after I had used REN's Omega night serum...that oil was nice and light and lasted forEVER (50ml lasted me 5 full months), while I have just been using this product for about 2-3 weeks and it's about 1/3 gone (13ml bottle). For the size of the bottle vs the price ($30 for BB), REN's is comparable; actually it's cheaper - over three times the product for less than three times the price ($78 for REN). Anyway, besides that point, I found that this product makes my skin look glowing but it doesn't improve the texture of my skin at all, I actually find it makes it worse. I haven't noticed any improvement in fine lines either. One thing I will try however, is mixing it with a light moisturizer as some other reviewers mentioned, I think I might like the product much better that way, and it will last longer as well.

Makeup Brushes -Sephora - Professionnel Platinum Bronzer Brush #48
rated 5 of 5
toyarosie 8/11/2009 2:11:00 PM

I'm proud of myself that I bought this brush without doing countless hours of research beforehand (like I do with most of my other purchases)...must not have been a MUA'er yet, LOL. In any case, I picked this brush up at Sephora last summer and I'm quite pleased with it. The bristles are really dense and makes for great application of bronzer. Initially I find when I apply my bronzer it goes on quite dark because of the denseness, but then blends out beautifully to really look like I'm naturally sunkissed rather than like I applied a bronzer at all. Which is the point, really, I think. As well, I recently purchased a Mineralize Skinfinish powder m/u and find that this brush applies it quite nicely, just giving a sheer wash of product but never making me look powdery or made-up. Good quality, I don't find the bristles fall out very much which is a huge plus since that it uber annoying - and even better, it comes at a decent price, I think I paid $25CDN for it? I would repurchase again if the need arose but I doubt that will be the case for a while to come.

Mascara -Sugar Cosmetics - Sugar Double Wink
rated 3 of 5
toyarosie 8/11/2009 7:45:00 AM

I was impressed by the reviews of this product, so on my last Sephora order I added this to my basket, since it's only $10! At first after I received it, I liked the way it applied - you can get right into the base of the lashes without getting mascara on your eyelids, because the wands are nice and stiff and I find I have great control. Also I think because this mascara is somewhat dry and ungoopy, it helps. However, I do feel that that aspect is also it's downfall...because the mascara is dry it just doesn't build up as much as I'd like. NOTE however that since the rumour is the Sugar Cosmetics is discontinuing, perhaps their products aren't being manufactured now and I may have gotten an old one. So I can't completely discount this product. Its a nice mascara and I don't regret buying as $10 is fairly inexpensive; however, I am currently looking for a new mascara already.

Lotions/ Creams -Soap and Glory - Slim Wear
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 7/7/2009 5:52:00 PM

OK so I've been using this product for about a full month now, and can't say it's done anything major. Could be that maybe I don't need anything major done...but I haven't seen any change in my cellulite whatsoever. Having said that, I still like the product! It makes my skin REALLY soft and smooth, and I like the mint tingle it gives, especially in the warmer months. I think its better for firming than for cellulite. I saw a pic of me in shorts and my legs looked GREAT - really tight - but when I look in the mirror I can still see cellulite. The price is right too. I probably won't repurchase, but I will still give it 4 lippies :)

Lip Gloss -MAC - Gold Rebel Lipgloss- Style Warriors
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 7/7/2009 5:48:00 PM

I notice that even though this gloss got a high rating, only has 76% said they would repurchase. I mean, not that that's bad, but I sort of get it. I like this gloss, and like most (all?) MAC glosses it has that great caramel-vanilla scent (mmm), but I wouldn't repurchase. It looks nice on but I don't find myself reaching for it as much as I expected I would, especially given that it's summer time. There's just something about it that doesn't WOW me. Maybe it doesn't work for my skin tone or something, I find it makes my lips look more reddish and I was hoping for more of a nude look - I guess I was hoping it was more opaque than it is. Oh well, I'm still a huge fan of MAC glosses overall :)

Eye Shadow -MAC - AMBER LIGHTS
rated 5 of 5
toyarosie 7/7/2009 5:44:00 PM

Fabulous gold, looks great on my skin tone (caramel). Because I'm darker, I can wear this eyeshadow in the day and not look like I'm headed DT, but it can be played up beautifully for night as well. I find the texture is beautiful too, smooth and silky to apply, and the frost is not gritty like some shadows can be. Even though it's not normally a color I'd wear as an inner-eye highlight, it looks awesome that way! Love, would definitely repurchase (if I ever actually finished an entire eyeshadow out of the ridiculous amount I have already).

Concealers -Bobbi Brown - Creamy Concealer
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 7/5/2009 7:17:00 PM

I actually quite like this product, and I am very fussy when it comes to concealers! It's not perfect, like it doesn't miraculously cover my undereye circles completely, but I find that even if I put a cursory swipe under my eyes and run out the door, it looks good enough that I don't feel I look terrible. Usually I have to go through a serious process to get my concealer to look the way I want it to (apply, pat, apply again, pat, powder, etc). I still do that with this product but it's not an absolute necessity. I do find it quite creamy and a bit shiny-looking, but even with my oily skin I kind of like that, it keeps my undereyes looking pretty youthful. I still put powder on top though, just to tone it down a bit. Overall I'm quite pleased!

Skincare - Face -Ojon - tawaka tribal rejuvenating cream [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 6/18/2009 1:56:00 PM

I received a large sample of this product from my Aunt for my birthday, and at first I wasn't very eager to try as I've tried other products from Ojon and haven't been overly impressed. They aren't bad but nothing to write home about, and certainly not mindblowing for the price. And the smell leaves something to be desired...I don't mind it but I just find it quite ~distinctive~ shall we say, and knowing that, means it can go either way for people - they either love it or hate it. Not really something I feel comfortable wearing in public, I guess that's my issue. Anyway. Tawaka products smell different from the other Ojon products - as in, delicious! Still distinctive but the chocolate scent is very appealing, I think. At the very least it wouldn't turn one off. I use this product after I've been in the sun for a period of time (as it's loaded with anti-oxidants) and it goes on smooth and absorbs lightning-fast (which is somewhat of a negative - hence the 4 lippies and not 5 - because I find I have to use more product to feel like I really applied it everywhere). It makes my skin feel great however and nicely hydrated. The star quality about this product to me however is the fact that it clears up any patches of ezcema I have on my skin. Most body products exacerbate my skin and so I have to return to using unscented products and the like. But this not only doesn't irritate my skin but actually makes it better!!!!!! Which is so huge for me! I haven't tried any of the other multiple uses this product has, but I'm hoping to get some more of it before I go on vacation this year so I can try them out and pack less :) Great product and worth the price!

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - True Blue Spa - Glove Me Tender Restorative Hand Treatment with Shea Butter SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 6/18/2009 1:36:00 PM

I find it can sometimes be difficult to find hand creams with an SPF, so this was a pleasant surprize - especially since it has a lovely citrusy scent instead of a sunscreen odor. I like the fact that it also brightens the skin and it moisturizes quite well. I have ezcema and I don't find this exacerbates it either, which is a plus. Overall quite satisfied and when I am in the States again this summer I will be repurchasing :)

Moisturizers -Clinique - Superdefense SPF 25 Age Defense-Combo Oily to Oily
rated 3 of 5
toyarosie 6/10/2009 8:53:00 AM

This product combines moisturizing and anti-aging properties by 1) keeping the lipid-barrier intact to prevent moisture loss, 2) containing antioxidants to counteract damage to skin cells (and therefore to prevent aging), and 3) with an SPF of 25 to prevent photo-aging. I really like the product in the winter, as it hydrates very well and I don't have to apply a separate sunscreen; however, in the warmer months it makes my skin much too oily for my liking. My face is shiny and my makeup half-worn off by late morning. Would repurchase but only for the colder months.

Lip Gloss -DuWop - Venom Gloss - Lantana
rated 5 of 5
toyarosie 6/4/2009 9:29:00 PM

Love!! This is such a great girlie pink gloss without being TOO bright pink. I am an olive-brown skin tone and its not too cool but at the same time is straight-up babydoll pink. Its sheer so it's very wearable but you can definitely still get the idea of color. I have pretty full lips so I can't comment on the plumping factor, though you definitely feel the tingle :) I got this as a sample and will definitley repurchase, it is one of the few glosses that I love entirely!

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Venetian
rated 3 of 5
toyarosie 6/4/2009 9:26:00 PM

Interesting, in reading other reviews I realized that yes, the staying power of this gloss isn't all that great, for a color I use rarely, I've probably gone though half the tube already in just six months (that's probably me using it once or twice a month, max). I'm not a huge fan of the color alone, I bought it to go over Lasting Lust Pro Longwear instead of using the clear topcoat, and only bought it because Russian Red lipglass wasn't in stock. It's too blue-based for my olive-brown skin tone...I keep trying to rock it out as a more subtle red lip for day but I always end up disappointed with the overall look. I think I will reserve this for using on top of red lipsticks for that extra ~oomph~

Lip Gloss -MAC - Plushglass - Wildly Lush
rated 4 of 5
toyarosie 6/4/2009 8:59:00 PM

I love MAC lipglosses :) I love the way they smell and I haven't bought one I wasn't pleased with. I bought this to go on top of a lavendar Chromegloss I bought previously (I can't recall the name, it's worn off and it was only a limited edition) because it was such an intense color I needed a way to tame it down. Wildly Lush is a semi-opaque nude, and was a bit too light to be worn alone on my caramel skin tone, but it was perfect to go over any lipsticks I have. It is one of the very few glosses I have ever used in its entirety :)
