Styling Products -Jonathan - Finish Control High Shine Flexible Hairspray
thesavagefamily 4/26/2009 12:06:00 AM
This is the best hairspray for my naturally curly, very dry, colored and flat ironed hair. I have tried so many sprays and ended up with sprays that flaked up on hair, had no hold, still, you name it---this is wonderful. While I don' t notice any shine from the hairspray, it does have fabulous hold and does not build up. My hair does not feel dry or stiff and it holds my style all day. I purchased this for 50% off at B&BW. Due to the $30 price tag, I don't think I will re-purchase, but I will definately try to swap for it and pick it up on clearance.

Fragrances -Victoria's Secret - Sexy Little Things Noir
thesavagefamily 4/22/2009 10:05:00 PM
I love the mix of orchid, tangerine and amber. It is not over the top floral or fruity, and the amber adds a nice touch of warmth. The shower cream is very rich and great for the bath. I love the powder--very fragrance with a nice puff, and have recently purchased the mist to layer with the lotion. Different scent, and a great one to add to my growing collection.

Styling Products -Jonathan - Spray Dirt
thesavagefamily 4/22/2009 9:57:00 PM
I have medium length naturally wavy hair that I straighten. I have slight layers in my hair and was looking for a product that would define layers without weighing hair down. B&BW had all Jonathon 50% off, and after trying Silky Dirt (not crazy about) I picked this up. I love it! I sprayed it lightly and tousseled my hair around for defined, yet soft layers with a more piecy look. I don't think I would pay $28 for this, but I would pay $14.00!

Hair Styling Tools -GHD - IV Styler (all sizes)
thesavagefamily 4/2/2009 10:05:00 AM
Like most other reviewers I have tried many different irons. I have naturally wavy, fine (but lots of it), colored hair--very dry due to coloring, highlighting and the texture of my hair. IMy hair also frizzes and doubles in size at the drop of the hat. had a friend purchase this iron for me at a hair supply professional store for about half the retail price, but even at $149 it was expensive for me! I love the GHD because it has heat sensors in the plates (the literature says it automatically adjusts to the needs of your hair), it heats up in less than a minute, my hair stays straight and does not bulk up even in the rain, and I only have to straighten once a week (with exception of my bangs). The GHD gets my hair straight, but it does not loose its volume like with the CHI. It is very shiny and stays straight until I wash it (with few touch ups). Give it a try!

Eye Shadow -Mary Kay - Mineral Eye Color-Granite
thesavagefamily 1/5/2009 8:24:00 PM
I have all brands of eyeshadows, from WnW to Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain, so of course I have some MK also! I am reviewing the new mineral shadow in granite. It comes in a very small magnetic pan in a plastic shell case. The color reminds me of MAC Smoke & Diamonds--a grey/taupe frost. It looks different depending on the colors it is paired with--more taupe when I wear it with Stila kitten, brown when I add it to Chanel Shimmering Dunes, and grey when mixed with Dior Tropical Light. For the price, I will definately try more colors. The shadow wears well and goes on smoothly. I definately recommend trying this color if you love taupes!

Treatments -Murad - Intensive Resurfacing Peel
thesavagefamily 1/4/2009 10:22:00 AM
I was excited to try this product and compare it to the enzyme peel I had at a spa. I received 4 vials of this product to try, so off I went! I do not like the bottles it is in because it is difficult to remove all the product. I used about half of the product, then stored the rest upside down so it came out easier the next time. I found I could get 2-3 uses from one bottle, so this made me feel better about the small size. I smoothed it on a clean face and felt a slight tingle upon application, but it subsided almost immediately. I left it on for 10 minutes and afterwards had very smooth, glowing skin. My face had a definate glow and my pores were more refined. I will contine to use this product 3 times a week till I run out, then try to swap for some. I don't see me paying $167 for the system at this point in my life, but I definately recommend trying if you want a glow, smoother pores, and a great combo of glycolic and salicylic acid.

Cleansers -Garden of Wisdom - Simply Clean Tea Tree Oil Cleanser
thesavagefamily 12/7/2008 10:31:00 AM
Contents: Decyl Polyglucoside; Purified Water; Coco-Betaine; Lemon Fruit Extract; Honeysuckle Extract; Manuka Honey; Tea Tree Oil; Glycerin; Seabuckthorn Seed Oil ; Neem Oil; Citric Acid Hyaluronic Acid; Optiphen I discovered this great line on MUA and have used it for 6 months. I have combo/acne prone skin (neither too dry or too oily). I alternate this cleanser with Jen's Shea cleanser when I want to exfoliate lightly. This cleanser has a pleasant, light scent and has gently exfoliating properties. It is perfect in the Summer when my skin is a bit more oily, however, it never dries out my skin in the winter either. I suggest trying this if you are combo/oily as the smallest size lasts a long time.

Cleansers -Garden of Wisdom - Jen's Green Tea/Shea Cleanser
thesavagefamily 12/7/2008 10:28:00 AM
Contains: Aloe vera gel; decylpolyglucoside; shea butter; matcha green tea extract; amaze xt; lecithin I learned about GoW from MUA and have been using these products for about 6 months now. I love this cleanser for my combo/acne prone skin. I alternate this cleanser and a scrub and love the green tea cleanser because it is so gentle on my skin. It foams with water and a little goes a long way. I use it after my cleansing oil to remove any traces of oil/makeup, and it leaves my skin very soft--never tight. I will definately re-purchase.

Mascara -Lancome - Oscillation Vibrating Infinite Mascara
thesavagefamily 12/7/2008 10:19:00 AM
I picked this up on a whim while purchasing a new JT. I had wanted to try it, but never picked it up. I wasn't expecting anything great, as Lancome mascaras have been hit or miss for me. I didn't see anything special with the first use and was a bit disappointed--however, I now have the application down and love it! I hold it near my lash base and very slowly move out and up. This mascara holds curl and lengthens my lashes like no other mascara I have tried. When I want dramatic, long lashes I definately reach for this one. This mascara does not volumize, but the length is incredible. It does not smudge or flake on me after all day wear either! I don't think I will re-purchase due to the price, but I am glad I got to try it!

Styling Products -Living Proof - No Frizz Medium-Coarse hair
thesavagefamily 11/27/2008 7:17:00 PM
I have naturally very wavy and dry hair. My hair frizzes at the slightest hint of rain, so I was anxious to try this product. I washed and conditioned my hair as usual, added my PM Super Skinny Serum, Nexxus Straight spray, No Frizz treatment (about a quarter and a half size dallop for shoulder length hair) and combed through. I dried my hair and straightened it as usual--it came out very soft, smooth and shiny. Then, I was steaming my DH's shirt and decided to put the steam up to my head like they did in the commercial. Well, NO FRIZZ! I really doused it with the steam on both sides and was amazed. I will continue to buy this product. I use tons of product in my hair, so if your hair isn't dry, you probably don't need all the other products, but I wanted to use what I normally do and just add this cream. I will definately re-purchase. EDIT:Just to clarify--I do use this no frizz creme first, then Nexxus Straight Spray, then Blended Beauty straight pearl of PM Super Skinny Serum. I am not cone-free or sensitive to cones, so I do add the serum. I will continue to use this!

Treatments -Garden of Wisdom - Mandelic Acid Serum
thesavagefamily 11/4/2008 11:18:00 PM
I am also new to GoW skincare and did some researching on their forum. I have hormonal acne, which is usually in the cystic form. My breakouts have been getting more and more severe each month and I was so tired of dealing with it! I use the 15% with alcohol and combine it with my blueberry exfo serum. I use this almost every night and have found my skin to be much more even toned, smaller pores, extremely soft, and never dried out. I mix this in my hand and can actually see the dead skin come off my hands, so I can now see why my face is so soft and smooth! I use the green tea cleanser for my acne prone skin, exfo serum, Goji Berry serum, and occasionally the renew cream and have had no breakouts or purging. I have been on this routine for about 3 months now and plan to stick to it. I like this line because you can buy smaller sizes to try (and they last a long time!). Definately give this a try if you are breakout prone.

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Metallic lipstick Dusk
thesavagefamily 9/25/2008 9:39:00 PM
I was excited to try the metallic lipcolors, and find a new addition to my team of about 300 other lipstick! I first tried the Iced Mauve lipgloss and wanted a lippie under it. I was between Silver Haze and Dusk. I ended up choosing Dusk, which is a neutral brown with just a hint of burgundy (at least on me). I have a neutral, medium light skintone and my hair is dyed copper red, so I was looking for a nice neutral shade. The color is very dark if applied just out of the tube--too much for the day on my skintone, however, after I applied it then blended with my fingertips, it was perfect. I nice, neutral shade which looks very classy. If you like browns, I'd definately try this one!

Foundations -Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation
thesavagefamily 9/17/2008 9:45:00 PM
I wanted to like this foundation--I was looking for smooth, even coverage that feels light on the skin. This foundation was heavy, thick, too creamy and did not do its job. I much prefer my Chanel TI cream foundation or my DDF Enhancing Suncreen SPF 30 which has been my foundation of choice for the Summer months (along with Benefit That Gal). I applied it with my fingers, with my foundation brush, then with my skunk brush. I prefered the method of the skunk brush, but it was still too heavy for my combo skin. Maybe if I were used to a heavier coverage foundation I would have loved it, but this one is not for me.

Polishes -NYX - Treasure
thesavagefamily 9/17/2008 9:15:00 AM
This was my first NYX polish purchase, so I was skeptical about a $1 nail polish. I picked Treasure since it looked like a red, but was not a full on screaming red. The brush was nice, not too stiff, and covered nicely. The color applied streaky for the first coat, but evened out after applying more coats. Treasure is a sheer red. I applied 4 coats to achieve more color. I followed with my Seche Vite top coat and the polish wore 1 week with no chips. This is one of the few that don't chip on me. The polish wore on the edges of 3 nails, but other than that I am only changing it because I want to try my 2nd NYX polish. If you like more sheer colors, this red is a great one!

Palettes -Unlisted Brand - BH Cosmetics - 120 Color Palette 1st Edition
thesavagefamily 9/16/2008 4:09:00 PM
I gave in to the madness and gorgeous reviews on you tube for this palette. From eBay this is a 2 level palette with 120 colors, each one the size of a dime. Every shade from white to fluorescent orange is in this palette. Today I wore a lime green shimmer with a matte green color in the crease (I like this palette more since it is a mix of shimmer and matte colors), and had a WOW YOUR SHADOW IS GREEN eye. I had to actually tone it down. I used them with my Mary Kay primer, best one I've found so far, and the colors went on very smoothly, not chalky, and had rich, deep pigment. I still love my Chanel shadows, but for bright, trendy colors (and deeply pigmented ones) the price is great. I paid $21 or so shipped from overseas. Don' t hesitate to buy this--you won't regret it!
