Tinted Moisturizer -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer Fair to Light
silvercatt 7/19/2005 8:19:00 PM
I just bought this... today. About 3 hours ago.
I tried it on as soon as I got home.
Its very light, which is ok. all I really needed was something light and moisturizing to wear over my concealer. I would like a higher spf, but its still better than nothing.
i use to just mix my own moisturized with CG clean makeup. Worked ok, but the consistency of that was too watery. This is more viscous and stays on pretty well.
Its not my HG T/M, but for the price It'll do.
The only thing I DON'T like is the coverage; it's just TOO sheer. 3 and a half lippies.

Cleansers -Alba Botanica - Coconut Milk Facial Wash
silvercatt 7/18/2005 6:59:00 PM
I realy like this. Its one of two cleansers I like and use on a regular basis.
I tried it at my friends house a few times when I stayed over. After that I found it a t a herbal store and bought it.
I love that it has a creamy consistency and moisturizes my skin enough to make it feel normal after washing instead of dry. Really gentle yet effective. It has an interesting smell. Not bad, I'm not sure what to make of it. The only downside is that it doesn;t remove all makeup. I use a non-alcoholic toner afterwards.
Other than that its perfect. Not too expensive either.
Also, I love the bottle. We'll see how it goes since I've only used it for about 2 weeks.

Lips -The Body Shop - Hemp LipBalm (Tin)
silvercatt 7/18/2005 6:54:00 PM
This stuff is nice. i bought it on sale for 6$ CAD, where-as usually its 11. Not worth that much money since it reminds me of Vaseline... just less sketchy.
It is nice thogh, its glossy and moisturizing. I like the tin, though its bit inconvenient at times. Doesn;t last as long as I would like, but I would love it much more if it were cheaper.
like it, don't love it. i woud give it 3 1/2 lippies.

Lip Treatments -Blistex - Fruit Smoothies SPF 15
silvercatt 7/18/2005 6:45:00 PM
I don;t know WHAT people are complaining about. This is Lip BALM people, lip BALM. Its not suppose to be glossy or coloured or anything of the sort, and with a name targeted towards 12 year-olds, what? do you expect it to have sophisticated lip-rejuvenating properties or something?
it has SPF 15, it's pretty moisturizing, I don't think it smells/tastes half as terrible as people say, unless you eat half a tube or something. Plus, its cheap.
I'm not saying its a miracle but Realistically, this stuff is just FINE. If you want gloss, go buy some juicy-tubes or MAC w.e-rs.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
silvercatt 7/18/2005 5:58:00 PM
I honesly do NOT know why people like this. So far, everyne who has tried this product (that I know in person) Has either disliked it, or holds an extreme grudge against it for ruining their skin. I'm definitely one of the latter. like previously mentioned by people, this stripped my skin completely leaving it flaky. It also aggravated my sensitive skin further by braking cappillaries on my cheeks. I walked around with a TON of concealer on to cover up the redness. It took me months to get it back to the way it was before. I LOATHE this cleanser with my heart, soul and skin. Plus, the packaging is not SIMPLE, it LOOKS CHEAP. Especially for something with such a price that I payed. I think dermatologists should stop recommending this to people with sensitive skin.

Fragrances -GAP Beauty - So Pink EDT
silvercatt 7/17/2005 11:16:00 PM
I love this. It doesn't last very long, but its great!
i bought it on a whim, and at the store my mother told me she hated the smell. When we got home, she kept trying to coax me to give it to her.
when I started wearing this, everyone complimented me on how good i smell.. which I found odd but nice.
i like that the scent isn't overpowering and it has a very pleasant, clean, grapefruit smell.
Very inexpensive at about 7$.

Mascara -Wet 'n' Wild - MegaVolume Thickening Mascara
silvercatt 7/17/2005 8:36:00 PM
i'm not a big fan of mascara in general. My backround is part middle eastern, so I have naturally long dark lashes, but they've been getting flat for some reason as I've grown up (unlike when I was a kid).
I decided to give this a try, and I really like it.
I thought it was just ok since I didn't have anything to compare to, but after I tried a few high end mascaras, I came back to this. They clump, flake and don't do much good overall, not to mention cost about 10X as much as this.
A few careful swipes of MegaVolume, and I'm good for the whole day. it doesn't smudge either, which is great since i get tired and rub my eyes a lot. Easy to remove, which can be a good or bad thing.
The packaging is bad, but honestly... who cares? you don't exactly put the packaging on your eyes and it doesn't strain your wallet either.
overall, its definitely on my good list along with a couple other drug-store mascaras.

Cleansers -Mary Kay - Velocity Facial Cleanser
silvercatt 7/17/2005 2:57:00 PM
This is pretty much the BEST cleanser I have ever used.
its a bit pricey at 18$CAD, but I think its worth it.
The little tiny beads didn;t exfoliate a lot, but using it everyday, you could see the difference. I used up 2 bottles of this, and I LOVE the subtle fragrance.
This is the only cleanser I use, but I have to stop using it for a while for it to have the same effect as it did at first (glow, cleared up skin etc.).
My friend also uses this and she has combo, non-sensitive Asian skin (whereas i have very dry, sensitive, porcelain skin). She loves it just as much as I do.

Moisturizers -Mary Kay - Velocity Lightweight Moisturizer
silvercatt 7/17/2005 2:54:00 PM
I got this as a present along with the Velocity coleanser. Unlike the cleanser (which I love a LOT) this made me break out at first. The package doesn;t tell you much to be honest, so I wasn;t even sure if it was oil free or not (i didn't know what to look for back then) so I stopped using it.
i took it up the other day and its better, but not much better. I don;t like this moisturizer but I do love the smell.
thats about the upside of it.

Treatments -John Frieda - Beach Blonde- Life Preserver hair conditioning oil
silvercatt 7/17/2005 1:54:00 PM
ok I didn't actually BUY this rpoduct, my friend gave me a vial to try because I was complaining about the dryness of my hair after going to chlorinated pools 2ce a week.
I do like this. I have enough hair for this not to weigh it down too much, and it does protect it from the chlorine, but since I'm just a student, its a bit pricey for me especially since its not something I would use a lot ( which might not sound logical but it makes sense to me) so I won;t bother buying it.
I found a good alternative to this: bofore going to the pool, I slather on a bit of leave in/spray in conditioner and brush back my hair into a pony tail or a bun and wait 10 minutes before going into the water. This keeps it protected while I'm swimming. After I get home, I put some olive oil on the ends of my hair and leave it in for 15 minutes about 1nce a week. This works just as well if not better and isn;t as much of a hassle as i make it sound. Plus, its practically free!

Moisturizers -Dove - Essential Nutrients Day Creme SPF 15
silvercatt 7/17/2005 12:49:00 PM
I use to be a big fan of dove products until I used this. Ok, I may be exaderating since thats not the only reason, but I still have to say I'm quite sad that it didn;t turn out to be good. At first I LOVED this, I raved about this to all my friends. My skin felt much better and looked gfod too. Big mistake, after about a month, it completely turned around and bit back. My skin went blochy and dried out. I only gave it a two because it was VERy good a first and has a decent price tag. Otherwise I would say its a 1. Besides that, I found out that Dove tests on animals which is jaw-dropping. Pure dissapointment.

Powder -Bonne Bell - No Shine Pressed Powder w/ Tea Tree Oil
silvercatt 7/17/2005 12:23:00 PM
I actually found this at a new dollar store that opened on my favourite plaza. I hadn't seen this anywhere else and they carried a bunch of other discontinued bonne bell products. I liked the packaging and bought it. I don't use powder. ever, so this is surprisingly nice, especially over concealer and tinted moisturizer. At the time I bought this, I was breaking out pretty badly. this mattified my face and didn't cause any more break-outs which I was incredibly glad for, being someone not use to blemished. The only problem is that even with the translucent one, the colour is a bit too pink ... it also oxidizes quickly.

Cleansers -Aveeno - Moisturizing Bar
silvercatt 7/15/2005 11:56:00 PM
Now THIS is what I call a beauty bar!
unlike most of the other ones I've tried, this actually doesn;t irritate my skin, cause breakouts or dry it out.. much(I have very dry skin so it can;t be helped). If youre lucky like me, you'll buy it on sale and love it as much as I did.
The first week of using this my skin glowed and my mild acne cleared up. I absolutely LOVE this bar. Unfortunately, it was sold out when i came back and it was almost 6$CAD at other stores I saw it in which is a tad hefty of a price for soap.
EDIT:
I finally found this for the sale price at honest Ed's, and I have to say it's even BETTER than I remebered! soothes my skin, and is great for my dry (not extremely dry anymore thanks to nivea) skin! I've been using it for only 3 days and the redness in my cheeks (winter weather) has gone away completely.
pure love. my HG cleanser without a doubt.

Gels/Soaps -Dove - Unscented Beauty Bar
silvercatt 7/15/2005 11:50:00 PM
Ok, lets be honest here. This is probably not the best "beauty" bar, but it's the best bar cleanser you can find especially for such a good price. But by no means does that mean that this is the best thing to use on your face. It works wonders on the skin on my body, but as for face, eeeh... not so much. Its not bad, but I prefer the aveeno bar soap which NEVER causes breakouts for me, and doesn't melt quite as easily. This did cause a mild irritation after a while and then after hat cleared up it caused acne. I wouldn;t recommend this especially for people with sensitive skin because its also slightly drying BUT once in a while its a good alternative because it does clean off oils and whatever residue your skin may have built up.

Concealers -New York Color - Cover Stick in Light
silvercatt 7/15/2005 11:43:00 PM
This concealer will do in a pinch but it does have some drawbacks. I think i am not in the minority when i say it did not match my skincolour too well. The medium was too dark and this was a bit too light. Its dry and tugs on the skin under my eyes and doesn't cover dry pathes or dried out pimples well either unless your skin is oiy or primed with a LOT of heavy moisturizer. Its good on flat red spots and as a base for covering large flat marks like scars. I wouldn;t buy it again, but it has saved me more than once as well as failed me.
