Cleansers -NARS - Softening Milk Cleanser
lillian1717 2/10/2008 12:04:00 PM
At least I got this for free... packaging - nice to look at, hard to use. it's a big rectangle, making it awkward to hold, and the pump is small. It also doesn't dispense the right amount you would really need, so one pump is too little, and two pumps is too much (a waste) product - it's nice for mornings, when you just need a light wash and doesn't dry skin out. but - if you have oily skin, it can seem a little greasy, but that's all cream cleansers. at night, the only time it's great is if you have zero or very little makeup on. otherwise, it leaves a lot of concealer/powder/bronzer on your face. I noticed this whenever i swiped a cotton pad with toner after washing my face. I eventually started breaking out into little bumps because it didn't wash everything off effectively. will not buy again...even though nars is supposed to have great skincare!!!

Lip Treatments -Carmex - EZ-ON APPLICATOR
lillian1717 1/21/2008 11:29:00 PM
If you have dry chapped lips, this is for you. I get pretty dry lips, the type where you can literally peel the skin off, and it doesn't help that I'm always licking my lips making them even more dry! I've tried so many other lip balms, flavored, medicated, drugstore brands, high end brands (L'occitane, Jo Malone, Kiehls, etc.) and still, this is THE lip balm to get. I slather it on at night, and my flaky lips are gone by morning. It's really annoying to put lip balm on chapped lips, only to be able to feel dry flakes UNDER the product. But put this on, and your lips become SOFT. It's not the greatest smelling/tasting product out there, but it's worth it because it just works so well.

Gels/Soaps -Dove - Dove Pro-Age bar
lillian1717 1/21/2008 11:17:00 PM
For mature skin? Not sure, but I do know this is a great bar of soap! I first tried it because I have extremely dry skin, and while I wanted moisture, I also needed some exfoliation to get rid of the flaky skin. This bar does exactly what it says, leaves your skin soft, more moisturized than all the other bar soaps out there, and my skin doesn't get that tight dry feeling it usually does. I've used it after pounding the treadmill at the gym, and I leave the shower feeling completely clean and refreshed. Very lightly scented, with scrubbing beads that aren't too harsh. A lot of other bar soaps are way too drying, or doesn't feel like it rinses clean. This is perfect for my dry sensitive skin!

Eye Makeup Remover -Neutrogena - Extra Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Pads
lillian1717 1/21/2008 11:11:00 PM
I originally really loved this product, tightly sealed jar, easy to carry around (I travel a lot), and the pads really are very soft. However, every time I used my normal eye makeup remover, I would realize just how much I had to rub my eyes with the neutrogena pads, which pretty diminished the point of them being "gentle." Sometimes I had to rub so much that the eyes around my skin would be irritated and my eyes would sting as well. I usually take my eye makeup off first, then wash my face..and every time, regardless of how much or little makeup I was wearing, it would leave dark rings under my eyes, I'd have to use another pad, and I'd "think" that I finally got all the makeup off, and then the following morning, I would STILL see makeup smears. I try to be extremely good about not sleeping with any makeup on, and this was definitely not helping. I've given up on the convenience of these pads and am back to the normal liquid + cottonb ball routine. The price is also pretty high for not that many pads, especially if you are using one a day.

Skincare - Body -Unlisted Brand - Veet - Rapid Action Hair Removal Lotion
lillian1717 12/8/2007 6:49:00 PM
I really do love this product, and it has worked amazingly for me. But users beware, I put this on my arms as I've been doing regularly for the past year, and the minute I put it on, it started tingling really uncomfortably. I wiped everything off and found that it had burned through my skin! I'm not sure why this time it affected me like this, and it was only a portion of my arm. But that portion burned like crazy for the entire day, and then turned into scabs. Just wanted to warn you all out there that it CAN be too strong...and even though it has never done this to me, I'm a little scared off by it now.

Styling Products -Kiehls - Hair Thickening Lotion
lillian1717 11/6/2007 12:27:00 PM
I have to honestly say that I've never fully tried it as a thickening lotion, only because it's at my desk at work and everytime I open the bottle to use a bit to smooth out some frizz, the smell is just so overwhelming. It literally smells like old plastic, and my hair gets a greasy feeling and look to if whenever I do use it.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Painterly
lillian1717 10/18/2007 11:35:00 PM
I bought this as recommended for an eyeshadow base, but after a few tries in pretty normal northeast fall weather - my shadows and liner still creased and ran into my eyes. The texture, color, packaging and price are all decent, but I will still stick to my Urban Decay primer potion, since I can get through a yoga class with that and have my makeup still intact!

Lipstick -Shiseido - MAQuillAGE Neo Climax Lip
lillian1717 10/18/2007 11:29:00 PM
I bought three of these online when I saw the original shiseido advertisement. Surprisingly, all three colors look amazing because they are extremely neutral and are really more for enhancing our lip color. RS755 is a slightly cool pink, the RD753 is a warmer color, and the BE352 is the perfect one for a truly neutral lip. What makes these great in addition to the perfect coloring is the texture. Not lipstick, not a gloss, which means that it's not drying (surprisingly lasts quite a while) and it's not that super slick shiny you get from glosses. It's a creamy consistency that is not sticky at all. highly recommended if you can find it!

Eyeliner -LORAC - Front of the Line Waterproof Eyeliner
lillian1717 9/8/2007 1:02:00 AM
Brand new product that I got sold on at Sephora when looking for a liquid eyeliner in a pen application. I usually use the Bobbi and Mac jars but was looking for something I didn't need to use with a brush. In the store it seemed fine on my hand (be careful using testers!), but I was so disappointed when I tried using it at home! Instead of a smooth thin line, you have to press the tip hard onto your eye to get product on resulting a much thicker line, and then it's not even smooth! I tried going over it, and because it's waterproof, the first layer dried fast and my second attempt only made the first layer flake off. Will continue to try to see if it gets any better, but definitely a disappointment. Maybe they will make the Shiseido one in a darker black, because that made the perfect line, but the pigment wasn't dark enough. Back to the brushe and eyeliner gels for me....

Lotions/ Creams -Vaseline - Intensive Care Healthy Hand and Nail Lotion
lillian1717 9/8/2007 12:56:00 AM
This comes in a new package/tube now, the tube is fatter now (possibly bigger?), and shorter, but the product is still the same. It was great to throw in my purse when it was in a skinner tube, but still, it's the product that counts! Now it leave it on my night stand and use right before bed. It's lightly fragranced, absorbs super fast, and more importantly, my nails and hands are healthier, smoother and no hangnails! I've tried the Aquaphor (too heavy/greasy), Burts Bee's cuticle (also too greasy and not easy to use for hands) and probably a dozen more other hands lotions - always coming back to this one. It feels light, but works great!

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
lillian1717 9/8/2007 12:53:00 AM
I've never been one to want to put more product than necessary on my face in the mornings, but this has truly been a lifesaver! Typically by the time I get home in the evenings after walking, waiting for the train in NYC humidity, work, then the trek home, my makeup has melted/smeared and my eyes are stinging so bad that it looks like I've been crying all day. After trying this primer potion before putting on my eye makeup, my makeup stays perfectly intact ALL DAY. I found that just the tiniest bit is all you need, and it actually makes even the cheapest eyeshadows go on smooth and true to color. After using this makeup just doesn't go on right without it! If you've got oily eyelids like me, or just want the perfect shadow application, you will have to invest the $15 for this tube...because I left work, took a yoga class and my shadow/liner were STILL intact.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - tweezers
lillian1717 9/8/2007 12:48:00 AM
By far the best tweezers you will ever, ever use! You won't even realize what you've been missing until you try a pair of these. I used to think my Revlon, Sally Hansen, dollar store ones worked just fine, until I finally gave in a bought one of these! Initially, they are so sharp that sometimes it actually breaks the hair, but once you get the hang of it, you will be able to grab even the finest and thinnest short hair ever. Invest now and save yourself the grief!

Treatments -Biosilk - Silk Therapy
lillian1717 9/6/2007 1:11:00 PM
I've been using this for years, and everytime I try a different leave-in product, I find myself coming back to this over and over again. I have pretty thick, long, bleached and color-treated hair, and using a bit of this while my hair is still damp makes it silky smooth. The smell is fantastic, but more importantly, it doesn't leave my hair greasy AT ALL. Just leaves is smooth, silky and nourished! The prices have gone up since I first bought it years ago, but still Highly recommended!

Conditioner -Nexxus - Humectress Conditioner
lillian1717 7/19/2007 2:36:00 PM
I do agree that it sort of seems as though my hair is actually soaking up the conditioner. As a moisturizing conditioner, it is okay. The negative points of this conditioner is that even with my very straight and untangled hair, after every shower my hair is very knotted. My hair is not particularly more moisturized or nourished either. I find that I have to use a moisturizing conditioner or treatment along with this one to get good results.

Polishes -Essie - Pretty In Pink
lillian1717 7/17/2007 4:19:00 PM
The color itself is not bad - a little milkier/pale than I normally like. But the worst thing about this color in particular is that it is very very streaky. I've tried numerous times, using different base coats, top coats, etc...but the result is still very streaky and uneven. I end up having to apply 3 - 4 coats to get a somewhat even look. I don't normally have this issue with my other Essie nail polishes, and this one is by far the worst one. Will not be repurchasing!
