Sunscreen -DERMAdoctor - DERMAdoctor Body Guard Exquisitely Light SPF 30

I use this entirely for my face so it is worth the price. I have found that it really controls oily skin! When it is applied it has a shiny hue to it that I tone down by dusting one time with my CornSilk colorless translucent loose powder by Sally Hanson. It says that it is spf 30, but I found that it compares more to an spf20 for outdoor pool use. It can be reapplied easily since it comes in a tube and is not greasy. It also does not make my sensitive acnegenic skin breakout! For my body I use Coppertone aerosol spray spf 30 (on my kids also). It is waterproof and goes on with a spray. ****EDIT**** Be careful with this stuff if you have sensitive skin and use a Vit. C Serum. I used this yesterday after my serum was dry and this sunscreen burned! I had to wash with soap to get it off.
Cleansers -Mario Badescu - Glycolic Foaming Cleanser

Great foaming cleanser that does not strip the skin. It cleans really well even when skin is grimy. It is light and has a citrus smell. It cleans out your pores pretty good (although I need something more for the pores). I do not know if it fades marks because I started using Neostrata aha 15% gel (my skin is sensitive but used to glycolics). If you are scared of using MB non foaming face washes than this one would be good.
This really assists in healing my pimples. I use it over the buffering lotion when I get a cystic pimple to take down the swelling and heal the area. I also use it when I first spot a pimple forming. Sometimes it takes the pimple away by the morning, other times it takes two applications (another night and possibly during the mornings before work). The best part about this product is that it does not dry out the area of the skin where you apply it...... so it doesn't leave you with a weird dry flat spot where your pimple used to be. If you have a huge whitehead that has already formed this will not be as effective, but I have not found anything better yet. I have found that if the whitehead is pierced with a sanitized extraction tool, the pimple goes away in one night with the drying lotion. The Drying Lotion will also take away a pimple (inc. whitehead) without leaving a post acne red mark! It contains a really thick consistency of calamine (which by the way cannot be supplemented with drugstore calamine because the stuff at the store is thin and does nothing) and salicylic acid. It contains other goodies as well. The container says not to shake it.... while after I have had it for awhile I do shake the bottle hard to break up the pink medicine at the bottom (otherwise it can get too thick). I also add in rubbing alcohol when the clear liquid goes down and there is still a lot of pink stuff left. I only wish that they would make the bottle shorter..... it can be hard to get the q-tip into the pink solution once you have used the product for awhile.
This is the only thing that I have found to help heal my existing cystic pimples! My skin reacts really well to sulfur. The Buffering Lotion has a water soluble form of sulfur so it sinks into your skin fast (super fast! You need to apply it quickly or it will sink into your hand) and easy. Whenever I would get a cystic acne they would stay around for at least 3 weeks. They would be huge (almost the size of a dime) and painful! I would also be left with a purple bruised scar (for months and months after - up to a year) even though I would not touch it. When I apply this lotion to the forming pimple it starts to heal immediately. This lotion takes away the throbbing and itchiness of the pimple. It also makes it go away to barely nothing by 3 days tops. If I catch the pimple forming early enough (sore spot under the skin) I can put this acne treatment on over my makeup and the pimple goes away. It is weird because this stuff changes the inside of the pimple. The pimple gets really hard and than goes away. I apply it day and night over the pimple and 1x during the day if it starts to throb again. Unfortunately this stuff does not prevent the pimples at all, but the Special Cleansing Lotion "c" and the Special Cucumber Lotion (both toners) contain the water soluble sulfur and cucumber so they help to keep my skin calmer and I have less cystics with their use. I also use the drying lotion over this at night to take down the swelling. The only downfall of this product is it can cause tiny whiteheads on my acne prone chin (like when I apply it to a cystic pimple on my chin and the product spreads out). I am not complaining though because I just add a little drying lotion to it and the whitehead is gone in a day. I would rather have a tiny whitehead than a scarring cystic pimple any day! I will never be without this ever! I even pack it in my purse when I am on day trips! NEWEST UPDATE: still my HG cystic pimple treatment after 2 1/2 yrs! I would like to clarify that I squirt a small amount into my hand and douse the pimple with a wet finger.... so the pimple is really wet with this stuff. Doing this 2x a day makes the pimple disappear and no more pain. My skin is finally rid of the purple-red post acne marks because I am able to treat these before they are full blown! I must ad that I loved the Enzyme cleanser for making my skin tone even out.... but now I use a homemade oil cleanser to balance out my super oily skin and clean out my mega clogged pores (none of those problems since using an oil cleanser with an emulsifier)
Conditioner -Brocato - Cloud 9 Miracle Repair Conditioner

This set is my HG!!! I love how it makes my hair feel stronger (proteins), shiny, soft, smooth, and more manageable. It also moisturizes. I found a 2/24.99 in liter sizes at Trade Secret so it is actually pretty cheap! Surpasses Redken, Kenra color maintence, Aveda, KMS, Biolage, Paul Mitchell, AtrTec, Phyto Organics, and other ones I have tried. I still like Nexxus (originals) though so I think I will alternate.
I am so happy I found this shampoo. It makes my hair feel stronger (proteins in it), shiny, smoother, and more manageable! This is my HG! I am not a huge fan of the light fabric softner smell since I prefer fruity smelling shampoo, but it is light. It is said to be SLS free, but it does contain other "ates" which lather. It cleans my head really well but leaves my hair untangled. I found it at Trade Secrets 2/$24.99. I think I am going to go back and stock up because that is in liter sizes. I learned a long time ago to just scrub your scalp and to squeeze the remainder of the shampoo through the length of your hair so you do not strip it (not that this shampoo even would anyways). It is also important to brush your hair at night and before washing it because it distributes your natural oils throughout your hair for natural conditioning.
I have been using this for 17 years! This is great to use if your hair is damaged (my hair had the pigment completely taken out with bleach from a salon disaster) or dry and needs a deep treatment. I leave it on for over an hour under a plastic bag and shower cap. I use a hair dryer on it to give it some heat. I also mix up a concoction with this, Keraphix, and Humectress to give my hair the nutrients and luster it really needs. I don't remember how much I paid for this because it usually lasts me a couple of years. I also decanted it into an aveda pump glass bottle because I found it messy and a pain to use in the original bottle. I am into making beauty products myself, so before purchasing again I may try to duplicate the recipe with the carrier oils. But I still have over a year usage left in the bottle.
I have been using this product for 17 years. I started using it when a salon distroyed my hair when I was 14. I went in for highlights and they bleached all the pigment out of my hair. My hair was white! I had no idea what they were suppose to do or even that they were doing anything wrong at the time because I had never had anything done to my hair before. They had to add 5 seperate toners to my hair to give it any color. (and it was yellow). It was completely damaged! It looked and felt like straw. It was breaking off everywhere! There was no hope...... except this conditioner which added moisture and strength back into my hair. It may not have made my hair turn tremendously shiny and vibrant.... but it kept it from falling out. The salon where the damage was done gave me free deep moisturizing treatments under the dryer 2x month for two years and they used this conditioner mixed with Humectress and Botanic Oil. I also did this myself weekly. I still use it and sometimes mix it in my Biolage Conditioning Balm to add extra nutrients to my hair. I will use this for the rest of my life because I have not found anything that compares! If my ends are dry I take a drop of this with Humectress and spread it into my damp hair.
Conditioner -Nexxus - Phyto-Organics Nectaress Conditioner

I was told by the clerk at the salon that this is the salon quality of Nexxus Ensure. It was not as good. It has a different consistancy. It is more watery than I expected, and it leaves a wierd stickiness to my hands and hair. The only comparison I can make to the stickiness is that it is similiar to washing with a deoutaurant soap that does not rinse clean (leaves a residue) off your skin. When you rub your hands together, they kind of stick. I could have overlooked this if my hair would have been left in tremendous condition. But it looked the same, a little moisturized (the Inergy shampoo was stripping), but DULL. I will be buying the Ensure with the Assure shampoo instead.
I did not like this shampoo. The salesclerk at the salon told me it was the salon quality Nexxus Assure Shampoo. It wasn't. It has a nice creamy consistency. It smells like Aveda Shampure. It does not lather much -which I really do not mind. I am looking for something that will work on my red color treated hair (not treated yet....waiting until next weekend -so my hair is natural now). This shampoo says that it is color safe..... but while washing with it my hair became SQUEAKY CLEAN. Not the worst thing a shampoo could do.... but if my hair was color treated I could see this stripping it. It also was not very moisturizing. I like Nexxus Assure shampoo (and Ensure conditioner) much better! I also did not like the matching conditioner. I just found Brocato Cloud 9 and it leaves my hair moisturized, shiny, and smoother. I am in love!
Last night was my first time trying this product. I have always wanted to try it, but I have a hard time spending the money on things that may not work. I got this as a sample in a swap over the summer. I did not use the night before shaving (like instructed), but I did use it after shaving my bikini line. It stings a bit until it is dry (alcohol in it). But in the morning I had forgotten that I even shaved becuase I was not irritated at all! The area did not have those angry red bumps everywhere (I usually get them so bad that they are practically overlapping!-I also have sensitive skin)! I still had some slight red pin sized dots.... but they were not bumps and I only had 3-5 on each side. My clothing rubbing against the area did not irritate it either. Next I am going to try MUA user CareKate's recipe for making it yourself with alcohol, witchhazel, and aspirin. I may even throw some Lavender and Balsam Peru essential oil in the mix.
I am writing this review for the use of both the shampoo and conditioner. While I tested the shampoo on its own, I did not test just the conditioner. My hair was really shiny (especially in the sunlight) and "looked" healthy after using the shampoo and conditioner (mostly from the conditioner because the poo made my hair static). This set is full of silicone so even the shampoo is very slippery. If you like that "one day dirty hair" you will love this set. It made my hair look exactly how it does in the morning the day after I wash it. My hair was limp and looked a shade darker on my naturally sun lightened areas (probably from being coated with silicone). The combo of the shampoo and conditioner made my hair snarled after it was styled. It was not full of static (like from just the shampoo), but it was still limp. It also still had that frizzy outer layer to it (which it does when I do not use the correct shampoo and conditioner for my texture, or when it is not color treated). It looked shiny, but I could not run my fingers through it without them getting stuck often (even by the roots). Perhaps I will buy this set again in the future for use when I am going "out on the town" and want that sleek look. It is not for everyday use. This set would work nice if your hair is damaged (mine is just a little dull) and you want it to "look" healthy. It may also protect hair from heat styling. I just could not see spending so much money on something that I cannot use every wash. I found my new love... Brocto Cloud 9 shampoo and conditioner. They contain strengthening proteins and leave my hair healthy, shiny, manageable, and soft!
I really wanted to like this shampoo. It is close to Nexxus Ensure watered down. I would prefer to wash with the Nexxus conditioner instead though (for an alternating conditioning wash) because the results are much better and the Nexxus is full of nutrients. If you like the "one day dirty hair" (how your hair is one day after washing it) you will love this. The shampoo on its own made my hair limp and full of static. When I combined it with the conditioner the results were much better. My hair was really shiny (especially in the sunlight) and "looked" healthy. This set is full of silicone so even the shampoo is very slippery. The combo of the shampoo and conditioner made my hair snarled after it was styled. It was not full of static, but it was still limp. It also still had that frizzy outer layer to it (which it always does except for when it is color treated). It looked shiny, but I could not run my fingers through it without them getting stuck often (even by the roots). Perhaps I will buy this set again in the future for use when I am going "out on the town" and want that sleek look. It is not for everyday use. This set would work nice if your hair is damaged (mine is just a little dull) and you want it to look healthy. It may also protect hair from heat styling. I just could not see spending so much money on something that I cannot use every wash.
Best scrub I have ever used! I add about a tablespoon to my creamy Mario Badescu Cleansing Gel (face wash). I mix in the brown sugar into about a nickle sized amount of face wash in my hand right before I use it. It polishes and exfoliates my skin beautifully. You cannot over exfoliate because the brown sugar melts into the face wash. I am left with beautiful, smooth, radiant skin. I would not use white sugar on the delicate face, neck, or chest skin because the granules are larger and sharp. I would save that kind of sugar for other thicker areas of the skin on the body.
Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Oil Cleansing Method OCM
hags101 1/27/2009 3:13:00 AM
I started doing the OCM with various oils (including organic ones) and at first my skin felt so good! The plugs in my pores came right out and I looked like I did not even have pores they were so clean. Boy did it feel like I was pampering my skin..... until the breakouts started to happen. At first I thought that maybe my oil was expired because the OCM had worked so well for the first couple weeks (I would wake up with a couple whiteheads but just figured that I did not get all the oil off). I purchased new oil and I tried to push through the “purging” stage so many talk about. Boy was I naive. Well, let me tell you that my skin is still suffering 5 months after I stopped doing the OCM. You see, oil does remove oils from your skin (idea behind OCM)... but how do you remove the oils that you place on your skin if water does not dissolve oil? There is also a toxin in Castor beans (Ricin) and if the castor oil is not cold pressed and filtered it still contains the toxins. I went from beautiful radiant skin from the Mario Badescu’s Enzyme Cleansing Gel (with the only problems being dark pores) to horrible BOIL INFESTED SKIN. I suffered from cystic acne around that time of the month (1 cyctic pimple), but I NEVER HAD BOILS BEFORE OCM! Even months after I stopped OCM I would wake up with huge dime sized boils (cystic looking inflamed spots) with usually two to three whiteheads on each of them. Some days it was even two or three lesions together. My face hurt and it throbbed. Some of them would break when I talked…. And others would “pop” when I gently washed my face (no washrag –just cleanser and gentle fingers). It took at least a month to clear each lesion and I was getting more daily (again… even months after stopping OCM). I had stopped wearing my usual mineral makeup because I did not want to stress my skin more by washing the makeup off. Having extremely fair skin that scars very easily I am full of scars from the boils caused from OCM. As a grown adult, I actually cried one night over this. I had to hold a cold washrag against my entire face because it hurt so bad from the boils all over (checks, chin, jawline, neck). I was really upset because I knew that it would probably take a year to get rid of the pigmentation scars left behind. The weird thing is that I got all those crazy boils on areas that were not problem areas (cheeks, jawline, neck, chin). I even read that Castor Oil can cause infections to the skin. Now I have dark purple scarring that concealor won’t even cover. I have done tons of research on OCM since I stopped using it. If I ever dare to use OCM again (because of how well it cleansed my pores, moisturized, and balanced my oily skin so that it stopped overproducing oil) I will be adding Polysorbate 80 and Peg-7 Olivate into my formula. Peg-7 is a water soluble Olive oil ester and Polysorbate 80 is a water soluble emulsifier that disperses oil and water. What this means is that they will help the oils rinse clean with water (something that will not happen without these ingrediants …even with using a cleanser after OCM). Add 5% of each into your formula. I would also use only up to 20% of organic cold pressed castor oil from either GardenOfWisdom.com or MountainRoseHerbs.com. Another oil that could be helpful if you are acnegenic is Safflower oil high in linoleic acid. See http://www.makeupalley.com/user/notepad/d_E_S_S/ for more information on how to figure out which oil is oleic or linoleic and what this oil can do for your skin. Please make sure that you do not use the oils you have laying around in your kitchen. Those oils could be expired or spoiled from exposure to sunlight or air. Also everyone's skin reacts differently to OCM. Some can’t use heat with OCM so they just massage and wipe off without steaming. Other people’s skin cannot handle being massaged for a lengthy amount of time (because they are severely acnegenic) so they only massage 2-5 minutes max. Others do not even massage. Make sure that if you do use the steaming method that you frequently change the washrag during the rinsing/steaming cycle and to use fresh water each time. A hand drying bathroom towel is the perfect size for these cycles. ****EDIT I found my perfect skin cleansing oil! I tried others like DHC - but I broke out from them -probably due to the essential oils. I have been using my own brew for 1 1/2 years now and my skin rarely breaks out (1 pimple every 3 months!!!) and my pores stay clean for 3 months (vs 1 week after extractions!) I have really congested and very oily skin and with the homemade cleanser my skin stays balanced and just gets lightly dewy after 8 hrs (vs oil slick after 20 minutes!). I use an 8oz bottle: fill 2/3 with Hemp Seed Oil unrefined, 1-3 Tbsp Castor oil (more for more congested skin, less to none for dry skin), 1-2 Tbsp Rosehips seed oil unrefined to counteract the dryness of the castor, and I fill the remaining bottle (almost 1/3) with polysorbate 80. I found that I did not necessarily need the Peg-7 Olivate - although adding a mix with the polysorbate 80 makes my skin softer. I have to follow with a toner such as witch hazel mixed with 1/3 water or floral water (both from MountainRoseHerbs.com) because I find that since my skin is in great condition it can feel too tight after straight witch hazel because of the alcohol content and the drugstore witch hazel is much more drying than the good stuff from MRH. Mario Badescu also makes really great toners that balance the pH in the skin. After toning I spritz my skin with Calendula floral water from MRH because it keeps my skin from getting oil for the entire day!! Now I started using the clarisonic and those tiny under the skin, skin colored bumps have disappeared! I need to try the deep brush head to see if it will keep my pores looking cleaner longer since the sensitive head does nothing more for my pores than the DDF Revolve or Olay Pro X brush. Good luck and message m
