Liquid -MAC - Studio Sculpt SPF 15 Foundation
fihe 1/15/2011 6:21:00 AM
I got this in a swap because I had been dying to try MAC foundation. this one is all right. it does keep my skin moisturized enough in the winter, but I find that it makes my face look white in photos (possibly due to the SPF?), which really bothers me. however, I do like that it's in a squeeze bottle so it's hygienic and it doesn't come pouring out of the bottle due to its consistency. it also provides the coverage I need. overall, I'd say Studio Sculpt is decent, but I wouldn't spend the money on buying it again, especially since I prefer Revlon Photoready and Colorstay which cost half or even a third of the price. UPDATE 02/08/11: been using this more and I think I'd change it from 3 to 4 stars. I like how it gives my face a healthy, dewy look. it's still not as good as my Revlon foundations though ;)

Eyeliner -Avon - Glimmersticks in Blackest Black
fihe 1/1/2011 3:34:00 AM
I don't use eyeliner too often, especially black eyeliner, but THIS STUFF IS THE BEST! not only does it twist up so I don't need to worry about sharpening it, but it goes on dark and stays on my waterline better than any other eyeliner I've used! I use it a lot for tightlining my upper lashline. I'm almost out of mine and would definitely buy it again!

Highlighters -E.L.F. - all over color stick in lilac petal
fihe 12/26/2010 7:03:00 PM
I absolutely love this product! it's a pretty frosty light pink that I often use as an eyeshadow base and sometimes as a highlighter. the only reason why I gave it 4 lippies instead of 5 is because the packaging is not great. mine won't twist down anymore and so now the top is getting smushed against the cap when I close it. oh well, it's only $1 so I don't care.

Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous - Rum Raisin
fihe 12/26/2010 12:19:00 PM
I bought this as a replacement for my Maybelline Moisture Extreme lipstick in Rum Raisin (haha, same name) which I had lost. but then I found my Maybelline lipstick about 15 minutes after purchasing this one, haha. at least that gave me the chance to compare the two. the Revlon lipstick is darker and much more pigmented than the Maybelline one of the same name, and also creamier. I also have another Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick (in the color Blackberry) and I find that their texture and pigmentation are very good, so much so that I actually need to apply the lipstick over lip balm and with a lip brush so it will not be too dark for everyday wear, which also will help me save product! Revlon lipsticks rock!

Pressed Powders -Unlisted Brand - The All Natural Face pressed powder foundation
fihe 12/26/2010 12:15:00 PM
I put this under "pressed powder" even though it's actually a foundation rather than just a setting powder o_O when I got it in the mail, some of it was crumbling off and I had to salvage the small amount of loose powder that had fallen in the bag and use it on my face as loose foundation. the rest I fortunately was able to successfully re-press using the little puff included. it appears that this powder is somewhat fragile, so I took off one lippie for that. you'll need to be careful with it when the compact is open. but I must say that the quality is quite good, just like their loose powder foundation, which I love! it costs $14 which I consider to be an average price, but compact refills are only $9! my only problem with this product is, again, that it should have been packaged better to avoid breakage in transit. however, I would buy it again. oh yeah, and even though it was a little broken, I saw that the powder had the Gandhi quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world" etched into it. What a nice touch! :) UPDATE 02/08/11: I've found that this is a little messy to use, as the product gets all powdery when touched by a brush and then has to be wiped off after use or else it will get messy. waste of product :( still, I like this compact for when I'm in a hurry and can't bother with loose minerals.

Lipstick -Unlisted Brand - Joan Rivers Beauty lipstick in Berry
fihe 12/26/2010 12:05:00 PM
I got this lipstick in a swap so I can't comment on the price (and can't find it on the QVC website), but it seems on the expensive side for a lipstick so I put a 4. as for the quality of this lipstick, I don't find it to be drying but not particularly moisturizing either. and I don't know if it's just the tube that I got, but the texture is kinda gritty. this color, Berry, is very pretty for fall and winter. it's not a bright berry color; it seems to have just a hint of brown. I will use all of my current tube but I wouldn't repurchase it because although it's pretty good, it's nothing spectacular that I couldn't get from Revlon or another drugstore brand.

Powder -Unlisted Brand - The All Natural Face $4 sample kit
fihe 12/26/2010 12:19:00 AM
lol I said "no" to buying this again because it's a one-time thing, really, but I think having this sample kit is the best idea ever! I got 25 foundation samples for only $4! the site says "approximately 20" but I got more, hehe. each sample contains a very small amount, but it's enough to at least swatch a couple of times. the kit is available in both Pale to Medium and Medium to Dark. of course, I got the Pale to Medium kit, which includes the following shades in the following categories: Porcelain: Porcelain Goddess, Porcelain Rose, Ivory Rose, Ivory Goddess, Honey Ivory Rose Neutral: Porcelain Kissed by Honey, Almond Goddess, True Beige, Honey Kissed Light Beige: Light Beige Pale, Light Beige Warm, Light Beige Warmer, Light Beige Warmest Medium Beige: Medium Beige Pale, Medium Beige Warm, Medium Beige Warmer, Medium Beige Warmest Tan: Tan Pale, Tan Warm, Tan Warmer, Tan Warmest Dark Tan: Dark Tan Pale, Dark Tan Warm, Dark Tan Warmer, Dark Tan Warmest at first the category names were very confusing to me, but fortunately the kit provides you with so many samples that you get to see the color differences for yourself. the porcelain shades are VERY pink, while the Neutral ones seem to have yellow undertones yet still have enough pink/brown to be considered neutral (I use the shade Porcelain Kissed by Honey, in the Neutral category). Light Beige also has yellow undertones (Light Beige Warm was a very good match for me too but was a tiny bit too yellow), with Medium Beige a bit more neutral. Tan has quite a bit of pink in it, with Dark Tan even more so. the Olive category is not included with this kit, so if you have olive skin you'll need to order those samples separately for 35¢ each. sadly, I had to take off one lippie because the kit does not tell you what exact shades are in the set, which would have been nice :( as for the customer service, the owner, Crystal, is very nice and includes samples in every order! I've tried a few other products from The All Natural Face and this company definitely will be having my business ;D

Powder -Unlisted Brand - The All Natural Face mineral foundation
fihe 12/26/2010 12:06:00 AM
I heard about this brand on a mineral makeup forum. of course I had to try their foundation. I found my shade in their extensive sample kit (which I will review separately) and I use the color Porcelain Kissed by Honey (equivalent to an NC15 or so). I really like the formula of this makeup because it feels light on my skin yet provides good coverage without me having to use a lot. the company also gives you the option to get a jar or a bag of foundation, which I think is nice for those who want to save money on packaging as well as being eco-friendly.

Pressed Powders -Avon - Personal Match
fihe 12/21/2010 6:27:00 AM
Great powder! I'm a MAC NC15 and I use the shade Porcelain, though I feel it's a bit pink for me. the applicator it comes with broke when I tried hand-washing it, so I use a separate velour puff instead and apply it after my foundation. it works great! however, I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because the packaging on mine broke, so it doesn't snap closed. in fact, it doesn't completely close :( but other than that the packaging is nice. and did I mention the product is great? :)

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Clarisonic PLUS Sonic Skin Cleansing System
fihe 12/19/2010 8:52:00 PM
I said I wouldn't buy it again because this thing SHOULD last forever. :P but it's a great product! I still break out plenty even though I've been using it, but at least I know that those breakouts aren't due to makeup that hasn't been thoroughly removed, because this thing WILL clean your face of all makeup. my skin is also softer, and gently exfoliated each time I use it. however, for my skin during the winter, I need to use a stronger exfoliant in conjunction with the Clarisonic. I haven't used the body brush enough to see how good it is, but I've used it on my arm bumps a few times and it did make my skin very soft :) I give this product 4 stars because while it doesn't work miracles, it's a very good investment for your skin!

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Baby Bees Buttermilk Lotion
fihe 12/15/2010 3:16:00 AM
I'm kinda on the fence about this lotion. it has a scent that reminds me of a combination of baby shampoo and...vomit. I also am not a fan of the texture. it's kinda sticky, unlike other lotions I've used and liked. at least it makes my skin soft though.

Loose Powders -Ben Nye - Neutral Set translucent powder
fihe 12/14/2010 5:47:00 PM
I actually got this at a Halloween store to set my white face makeup I was wearing as part of my costume. I believe it cost $6 for my 0.9 oz. container. after Halloween, I have been using it with my everyday makeup. it gives me a very natural look! I would say it looks better than any other powder I've ever used. granted, it is my first and only translucent powder. I'm not a big fan of the packaging, as it actually has to be sprinkled out like baby powder, but then again the packaging is travel friendly, unlike other loose powders I've used!

LOVEEEEE this palette! it has 10 colors so you can make so many different combinations of smokey eyes, including taupe/brown and grey shades. there is also both a pure black and a brownish black. and I love the packaging. it comes in a cute and convenient packaging with a mirror! I purchased this for only about $9 at my local beauty supply store. get it!

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Idol Eyes - Creme Shadow Pencil - Pixie
fihe 11/30/2010 7:34:00 AM
I was buying some NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils at my local Harmon and then this caught my eye. it looked a lot like the JEPs but smaller. for $1.74 I figured I had very little to lose. and I am very pleased with the results! it's a pretty champagne color that I like to use as an eyeshadow base. yes, it creases, but all cream eyeshadow does that. it's easy to put on and blend, and looks very nice with my Cover Girl eyeshadow in Champagne. I'd highly recommend the Wet n Wild Idol Eyes cream shadow pencils to those who are looking for an alternative to the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils. UPDATE 01/03/12: I also have experimented with using this pencil on the face as a highlighter, and it works very well for that purpose as well! so not only is this product dirt cheap, but it's versatile! just make sure to set it with powder.

Eyeliner -New York Color - Eye Liner Pencil in White
fihe 11/30/2010 6:53:00 AM
Bah! hardly shows up on my waterline and certainly doesn't stay. white eyeliner really can't be used anywhere BUT the waterline, so I don't have much of a use for this thing. good thing it was only a dollar.
