Treatments -MD Skincare by Dr. Dennis Gross - Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel
fabulyss 2/29/2008 12:20:00 PM
This is my HG skincare product! I'm 23 with sensitive combination skin. It has been acne prone for a while now (despite using Retin-A and Duac which I think my skin has gotten used to). I sampled this at Sephora and I swear - after just one application I was hooked!! My acne has cleared up, scars have faded, pores have shrunk, and my skin is soo soo soft! It's also easier to use than a traditional microdermabrasion scrub. I bought the travel packets as I heard they are less likely to dry out. I'm now getting compliments on how great my skin looks! Its absolutely incredible (: Of course, it's super expensive so I would recommend trying it at Sephora first. (p.s. I also tried Kinerase face peel which is really nice as well but I liked MD better)

Fragrances -Coty - L by L.A.M.B--Gwen Stefani

This smells like a linen store. Fresh, slightly sweet, and effervescent (without inducing headaches). This is great - for a candle, or linen mist, but for perfume? Eh, it's too subtle.

Moisturizers -Fresh - Repair And Restore Face Balm
fabulyss 2/15/2008 11:32:00 PM
Received a sample from Sephora. A decent moisturizer, not too heavy not too light. Hasn't broken me out yet. It stings a little bit when I apply it and feels irritating though...definately not worth the money (creme ancienne on the other hand is incredible)

Treatments (Eye) -Neutrogena - Visibly Firm Eye Cream

This felt like it tightened the eye area but left me with dry patches on my eyelids!! Not worth it for me.

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
fabulyss 7/20/2007 3:06:00 PM
This product certainly doesn't perform miracles (nothing will get my blackheads out other than squeezing or extractions). However this is by far the best face scrub/mask you could possibly use on your face. I produce the mask in bulk: I put the pills in a small sealed plastic baggy then literally hammer them on the floor into tiny grains (this takes 5 seconds to do and no mess!) I keep it stored in the same plastic baggy and use about a teaspoon or two each time...and scrub away! It can be tricky to get the water/aspirin ratio correct but it isn't tedious. It dries really quickly on the skin so I don't see a need to leave it on longer than 5 minutes. The exfoliating properties really give a glow to skin and it never leaves skin bright red or irritated. It also leaves skin incredibly soft. I too am a little concerned about it being absorbed into the skin as most things applied to skin do, indeed, get absorbed so I usually will just use this once or twice a week. Regular face masks have never ever produced any effects on my skin before so this is a really great discovery.

Mascara -Victoria's Secret - Very Sexy Lashes - Intensifying Mascara
fabulyss 4/29/2007 10:04:00 AM
I received this as a GWP and in a mini tube. This mascara was pretty good for about a week: lengthened, somewhat added volume, clumps were no problem. Then within a week it dried out, flaked, and clumped. I would like to say I got a bad batch or perhaps it was the mini tube but apparently I wasn't the only one with this problem. It is a shame as it would have been quite good (I even think comparable to DiorShow, or at least a cheaper version) - if only it hadn't dried out.

Hair -Pantene - Restoratives Time Renewal Mask
fabulyss 3/28/2007 9:46:00 AM
This is about as good as a hair mask is going to get. Makes hair ultra soft, super glossy, doesn't weigh down and tangle-free. And this is coming from someone who never buys Pantene (I'm always skeptical b/c they seem to be chockful of chemicals). This is by far the best hair mask you'll find in a drugstore - maybe even anywhere! (I use with John Frieda Brilliant Brunette shampoo).

Lotions/ Creams -Olay - Quench Body Lotion Extra Dry Skin
fabulyss 3/17/2007 11:08:00 PM
I bought a travel size of this while on vacation. Eck, it smells like that artificial perfume in scented tampons!! It didn't even do an exceptional job at moisturizing - given the marketing on this lotion I thought it was some sort of revolutionary formula. I'll stick with my very moisturizing Suave.

Lip Gloss -Fresh - Cameo Lip Shine Palette
fabulyss 2/24/2007 8:34:00 PM
This palette is incredibly expensive for being so tiny. The colors though are really really sweet & feminine, naturally pretty (although some of the red shades are nearly identical when worn). It isn't sticky or goopy, it also isn't opaque either so the color is rather sheer and subtle. The palette itself is adorable (looks great on my vanity in the bathroom) and comes with a great mini lip brush. I received this in a swap and it was totally worth it, but I'm not sure I could manage to dish out $40 bucks for it otherwise. I guess I just wish the colors were more opaque & the formula lasted longer, other than that this palette is just like all of the other Fresh products in that they are more of an indulgance than a practicality.

Concealers -Bobbi Brown - Creamy Concealer "Ivory"
fabulyss 1/18/2007 6:29:00 PM
This product gives fantastic coverage for blemishes of the cyst variety. On any surface blemish, however, this will just emphasize the flakey skin. Whatever you do, do NOT use this for undereye circles: its coverage is mediocre, and ages the skin (settles into lines, chalky, appears dry, difficult to blend). On the plus side, she has the most amazing color shades.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Violet Face Palette
fabulyss 1/12/2007 9:11:00 PM
PRICE: $50 - quite expensive but most of the colors are limited edition, plus its very versatile PACKAGE QUALITY: Slim & sleek with a nice big mirror. It does look like it could break easily though OVERALL: I'm not one to really wear color so this is a nice transition. The colors are totally versatile and can be layered. I never ever wear blush b/c my face blushes really easily, but I must say this is the best color ever. Its so pretty & feminine and surprisingly natural!! I only wish the nude lip gloss was a bit more opaque (its basically clear). Overall, it can create a # of gorgeous looks both natural & made up. ****UPDATE****: for those of you complaining about the sheerness, make sure to apply concealer to your lips before the gloss & you can always buy the Ultra Violet eyeshadow (part of the Violet collection) for an added punch!

Shampoo -Aveda - Pure Abundance
fabulyss 11/14/2006 10:11:00 PM
First of all, everyone should know that Aveda products are not heavy and buttery. So, if you're looking for intensive moisturizing or deep conditioning--this brand is not for you. The Pure Abundance line is not for uber sleek, shiny hair either. From my experience it's best for the 'bedhead' look: texture, volume, matte (it even states these qualities on the label somewhere). I only use the Shampoo and the 'potion' and it does give noticeable oomph! Of course it isn't long lasting but one can't control the weather!

Liquid -Bobbi Brown - Luminous Moisturizing Foundation
fabulyss 11/7/2006 7:19:00 PM
Remember to go one shade darker than your foundation stick color! This foundation is fantastic, its the perfect balance between light and medium coverage (feels weightless, looks natural & lasts all day). I don't use this all over my face just in certain spots (like concealer). I highly recommend it! Bobbi Brown has the best color selection!

Scrubs -L'Occitane - Verbena Body Salt Scrub
fabulyss 11/7/2006 5:35:00 PM
I can't believe the low rating on this product! The smell is delicious! Its lemony without smelling like cleaning product. The salts are large, but thats the only way to get a good exfoliation . My favorite part about this product is that the oil moisturizes my skin for the next 24 hours, lotion isn't even necessary (though I still use it). I'm not familiar with the other verbena products so I can't compare. Its pricey but definately worth a try! (one minus is that you should never apply it directly after shaving, your skin has tiny cuts and this can sting)

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Blackhead/Blemish Extractor
fabulyss 11/5/2006 8:08:00 PM
Based on all of the postitive reviews here, I must be doing something wrong with this product. It hurt badly and left red marks on my face for the next week. The loops on each end were far too big to zero in on a single pore/blackhead. I was able to extract some gunk, but I could have done it with my fingers (w/ less pain and less redness!) I've never had a professional facial w/ extractions so I cannot compare. Maybe I just need to practice with this product, but owch does it hurt!
