Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Jherri Redding One 'n Only Color Fix

I used this product two days in a row in hopes of getting rid of my black and red hair dye and possibly lightening to a medium brown. I had to use two boxes each time because I have really long hair which is also super, super thick. When I used the first two products I was amazed at how all of the black hair dye was removed. My hair was left a burgundy-brown but the ends of my hair were bright red. My hair was also super soft and silky, which was really surprising. The next day I used it again in hopes of getting rid of the red, but it instead made my hair a very bright orange-red. I was really scared that the red would be too powerful to color over with a hairdye. My initial goal was to lighten my hair to a noticeable light brown or medium brown. When I redyed my hair, I used Schwarzkopf Igora Royal in shades 6-0 and 7-0. I was scared of buying a hair dye that was too dark because I didn't want my hair to turn dark again, but I was also afraid of buying something that was too light and not cover the crazy red color I had. I had to buy four boxes so that I could cover all of my hair. I used 20 volume peroxide with the dye as well. I left the dye on for about 20 minutes and was shocked at how dark my hair had become. Sadly, it looks the same as it did before I removed any of the color. I am pretty disappointed as I spent around $100 on all of these products and had no noticeable difference as a result. The only positive is that my hair actually feels silkier and softer and not damaged at all. I'm not sure how my hair will look when I wash it and when the dye begins to fade. I'm hoping it will turn into a lighter shade of brown. I'm really scared that the powerful red color I have underneath will begin to peek through. Another positive result that came from the color remover is that it made my face framing blonde highlights much brighter and lighter. It removed any brassiness my highlights had.

Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - Nivea Creme
rated 2 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 12/15/2009 7:10:00 PM

I really want this cream to work for me as I know many women who have used it throughout their lives, and now when they're middle-aged their skin is absolutely perfect and healthy looking without any wrinkles or signs of aging. My skin is terrible as I have tons of breakouts and scarring that was left from the horrible cystic acne I had. I am 21 years old and am still unfortunately battling with acne breakouts. Although my face is much better than it used to be, I still need to wear a lot of concealer and foundation to cover it up. I originally had the Nivea that was made in Mexico and after reading reviews here, I stopped using it and switched to the one made in Germany. Nivea is the ONLY cream that actually moisturizes my super dry skin. My skin is so dry that even warm water will cause it to itch and flake. Adding acne treatments and medication to it, will only dry it out even more. My face is also really sensitive and one wrong ingredient can cause it to look as if I have a horrible sunburn. I applied this Nivea to my face and of course it moisturized it beautifully. All of the flakes, itchiness and dryness were gone and my skin felt really nice and smooth. However after a few days, the cystic acne began to appear so I had to stop using it. I really wanted this to work for me as absolutely nothing else moisturizes my skin the way this does.

Fragrances -J. Lo - Glow After Dark
rated 5 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 9/30/2009 4:58:00 PM

I LOVE this perfume. The bottle looks a little cheap as it is an aluminum silver colour and I don't really like that I can't see how much perfume is inside the bottle. But other than that, the smell of this is absolutely amazing. I bought a 50 mL bottle of this at Shopper's Drug Mart for around $20 after Christmas. It has a very seductive, mysterious and sexy scent to it. When I put it on a few days ago, my boyfriend was all over me and kept saying how it smells so good. It is also really long lasting. I would definitely repurchase this perfume again!

Shampoo -Unlisted Brand - Peter Coppola Brass Out Shampoo
rated 4 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 6/16/2009 5:12:00 PM

I bought this shampoo after getting blonde highlights since I was not able to find Clairol's Shimmer Lights. This shampoo works great at getting rid of brassiness. My stylist used 20 volume bleach on my roots before because he was afraid of using bleach that was too strong. Unfortunately after the highlights were done, my roots looked very brassy. After a few weeks of washing my hair with Brass Out Shampoo, my roots became PLATINUM. They were a very white platinum colour, just the way I like them. The only problem I have with this shampoo is that it fades dark hair dye. I dye my hair jet black and have blonde highlights and this shampoo REALLY fades the dark dye. I usually HAVE to get my hair dyed darker where my roots are because toner always affects my regrowth and makes it orange. The lid also tends to leak a little, so be careful if you're putting the bottle in an area that you wouldn't want stained. I paid $9.99 for a 1L bottle.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Smackers
rated 5 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 6/11/2009 2:57:00 PM

I love Lip Smackers. I used to use them all the time when I was younger. During the past few years, I have only been using lip glosses that contain colour. But when I tried Lip Smackers I was in love again. It moisturizes my lips very well and makes them look shiny and healthy. The packaging is also cute too and they smell and taste great.

Tinted Moisturizer -Mary Kay - Tinted Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 20
rated 4 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 6/8/2009 7:27:00 PM

Although I prefer foundations with heavy coverage, this tinted moisturizer is what I use when wearing foundation would be inappropriate (such as when I go to the gym). This foundation covers my acne scars but still makes me look natural. Everyone knows that a fully made-up face does look rather silly when you're working out. I need to wear foundation because of the scarring and would never go anywhere without covering my skin up. I can not remember how much this cost since I bought it from a Mary Kay sales representative a while ago. This is the first tinted moisturizer I have ever bought/used and is probably the only one I will continue to buy. It lasts a pretty long time too. The colour matches my skin perfectly and although it does look rather streaky when I first put it on, it melts nicely into my skin and looks great.

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Curious by Britney Spears
rated 1 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 6/8/2009 7:18:00 PM

I got this perfume as a gift for my birthday. I am SO happy that I received it as a gift and that I didn't buy it with my own money. It is disgusting! It smells okay in the bottle, but once I spray it on it changes into a weird smell. It smells like urine. The bottle looks nice, so pretty much the only reason why I keep it in my room is because of its appearance.

Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - #414 - Red Red
rated 5 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 5/17/2009 3:19:00 PM

This is the perfect shade of red! I have light skin with warm/yellow undertones and this red nail polish looks awesome on me. I hate red nail polishes that tend to look orange and this definitely does not look orange. It is a true bright red. The nail polish is also super shiny. My only complaint about this is that without a topcoat it does NOT last at all. I painted my nails a few nights ago and they chipped in a few hours. However once I apply a top coat the nail polish lasts about a week. This nail polish is also easy to find and super cheap at Walmart. I believe it costs around $1.50. I would definitely repurchase it once it runs out.

Eye Shadow -Bonne Bell - Shadowbox in Cafe Classics
rated 5 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 4/29/2009 4:04:00 PM

I love these eye shadows! I first tried them about 2 years ago since I wanted to buy a neutral/warm eyeshadow palette to take with me on vacation. The colours are great and look awesome with my fair skin with warm/yellow undertones. The eye shadows never crease and they stay put for a really long time. They also blend really well. I usually use the lightest colour to highlight my brow bone. Then I use the peachy colour at the very bottom all over my eyelid. I then layer the peachy colour with the glittery golden shade. I use the darkest brown on the outer ends of my eyes to create a V-shape. The only problem I have with this eyeshadow palette is that the brown isn't dark enough. It is a beautiful colour in the palette, but unfortunately it does not show up as dark on me. The glitter in the gold eyeshadow is also really nice, it is definitely not too much or tacky looking. The eye shadows last a really long time. I am on my second one and I can't even remember the last time I bought it. The packaging is also great. I dropped it a few times and the eye shadows never broke. They also apply really smoothly and never crumble or cause fall out under my eyes. I would definitely repurchase it again! I think it costs about $4 at Walmart.

Mascara -NYX - Doll Eye Mascara - Volume
rated 3 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 4/29/2009 3:55:00 PM

I bought this mascara hoping that it would give me a lot of volume. It did not give me any volume at all, but instead incredible length. The mascara made my eyelashes look SUPER long and doll-like. It is also really black and does not clump, smudge or flake off. However my biggest problem with this mascara is that if I'm wearing it all day it will start irritating my eyes at the end of the day. For example when I'm getting ready for school in the morning, I'll put on my makeup then. At around 8 or 9 pm, my eyes begin to feel as if someone threw grains of sand into them. I'm pretty sure it is because of this mascara, since this never happened to me before when I'm wearing other mascaras. I find this mascara ok as long as I'm not going to be wearing it for too long. I think calling it a volumizing mascara would be wrong, since it did not give me ANY volume only length.

Eyes -Ardell - Brow & Lash Growth Accelerator Treatment Gel
rated 4 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 4/29/2009 3:41:00 PM

After reading all of the reviews here on MUA, I decided to give this product a try. I had a REALLY hard time finding it and when I finally did, I was so excited that I bought the last two tubes the store had (for about $8.50 CDN each). I am naturally a brunette but dye my hair black. However my eyelashes are super light. My top eyelashes are very long, but thin and a light brown colour. At the tips they are blonde which makes them look shorter than they are. However my bottom lashes are horrible. They are really thin, short and super blonde. I hate them! I applied this product everyday and noticed results in about a week and a half. My bottom eyelashes became A LOT longer, but unfortunately not any thicker. This product didn't darken them at all either. I think it made my top eyelashes a tiny bit thicker because I noticed some eyelashes growing above and below where my old ones are, creating a fuller appearance. I also did not have any problems with irritation if the product went into my eye. After using this for about 2.5 weeks, I think it has stopped working since I don't see anymore changes. It might be because of the tube, so when I open the second one I'll edit this post if there are any differences. My eyelashes still look the same as before when I am not wearing any makeup. But once I put my mascara on, you can really see a difference with my bottom lashes! Once they looked SO long that my sister asked me why my makeup looked like the band members from Good Charlotte (and I was only wearing mascara)! Hopefully the new tube will make a difference since I really want them to get longer. It is hard to tell if it changed the length of my upper lashes as they were really long to begin with. Too bad it didn't darken or thicken my lashes as well, but adding length alone is great anyways! Edit: I forgot to mention that I have been using this on my eyebrows as well. I used to have thin eyebrows and wanted a change so I applied this product to my brows just to see if it would work. Usually it takes me really long to grow my eyebrows out so that they're medium sized but with this product it made them grow into a nice medium-full shape in about 3 weeks. This is a lot faster than it would have been if I had waited for them to grow on their own. So when it comes to enhancing eyebrow growth, I would give this a 5/5. It also does not irritate the skin around my eyebrows or cause any pimples.

Pressed Powders -New York Color - Color Wheel Mosaic Powder Peach Glow
rated 4 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 4/29/2009 3:31:00 PM

This blush is ok as long as you don't use too much of it! I have pale skin with warm/yellow undertones, and just a little bit of this blush on my cheeks creates a nice, healthy-looking glow. However if I apply it a bit heavy then it looks really orange - especially in natural light. I usually just put bronzer on first and then lightly apply this blush over and blend. The blush comes in a compact pan, but tends to become loose after you swipe your brush through it. Its pretty cheap and probably would not run out in a long time, considering you should only apply it lightly. Edit: I'm going to add another lippie because I absolutely LOVE the healthy glow this peach blush gives me. I normally only use it during daytime such as when I'm going to school or shopping and it makes my skin look really healthy and nice. The only reason why I don't use it at night is because I would rather use a pinkish blush. Other than that, this is a great blush. Just don't use too much if you don't want it to start looking orange!

Blush -Jane - Blushing Petal [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 4/26/2009 2:59:00 PM

I bought this blush yesterday after reading all of the reviews on this website. I was looking for a blush that was pinkish but not too pink, since I wanted it to make me look healthy and not fake. This blush is the perfect colour. It is very buildable so one swipe of this blush with your brush won't show up much (unless you're very fair. On me it took several swipes). The only problem with this blush is that it is not that longlasting. I applied my make-up at 10:30 pm last night and by the time I came home (3 am) I couldn't see it anymore. The blush also tends to set in with your skin after a while. What I mean is that when you first put it on, you really see that pop of colour and think that it seems like you have too much on. But after 10 minutes it does not seem as obvious and you can't really see any sharp lines from it either. I bought it for $6.18 CDN at Zellers. The colour is perfect, I just wish it would last longer.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Black
rated 4 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 3/18/2009 1:51:00 PM

I bought this eyeshadow after reading all of the reviews here on MUA. I love wearing dark smokey eyes but have often found that black eyeshadows are actually too light or sometimes end up looking blue-ish or grey on me. This eyeshadow is actually BLACK. Although it is not super dark, inky black like some reviewers here have emphasized it to be, it is still pretty dark. The more you layer it, the darker it gets obviously. This eyeshadow lasts somewhat long and is easy to blend. However there is sooo much fallout from it. My cheeks end up covered with the eyeshadow, even though I tap excess powder off my brush before applying. I always end up putting my foundation and powder after I am done my eye make-up so this isn't a huge problem to me anyways. Also before I apply eye make-up I always put a bit of powder on my eyelids so that my eyeshadow doesn't move around or crease. With this eyeshadow it creases just a tiny bit (compared to my black Rimmel eyeshadow that I have always used before and has never creased). However the creasing is not too noticable and I'm sure nobody else has noticed it, but me. I paid around $7.50 for this and found it at my local Rexall store. I haven't seen NYX products anywhere else other than in Rexall. The eyeshadows seem pretty pigmented and colorwise are comparable to MAC. I have never tried MAC eyeshadows but I have seen their vibrant colours. Edit: This eyeshadow is actually *super* black. I compared it to a bunch of other black eyeshadows I have and this eyeshadow is definitely the darkest from all. I don't recommend this eyeshadow for blending it into your crease as it would be *way* too dark, but I really recommend using it with an angled eyeshadow brush to create that smokey look that has an outer V-shape. I also love this eyeshadow because even after 5 hours of applying it, it stays black. I can't stand it when black eyeshadows turn grey or blue after a few hours.

Hair Color -Wella - Shaders and Toners
rated 4 of 5
ex0ticbarbie 3/17/2009 12:15:00 AM

I bleach/dye a few people's hair and have never had problems with their hair turning yellow or orange. However, every time I colour/bleach my mom's hair it ALWAYS turns orange. I have no idea why, I just know her hair is very stubborn! Anyways she has bleached her hair (which is naturally a medium brown) to about a dark blonde colour. I tried to lighten it today with the EXACT same bleach I use on others, using the exact same method and everything. Of course her inch of roots turned bright yellow (think of Eminem!) while the rest of her hair was a hot orange colour. Let me tell you, it was NOT attractive. She looked like her head was on fire! I remembered I had a box of this toner lying around (in 'White Lady') that I initially bought for myself but never ended up using. I mixed this toner up and it was a strange greyish-orange colour. However as I applied it to her hair it began to turn purple. Her scalp was also all purple and soon after her whole hair was greyish-purple. She began to freak out that the purple would remain in her hair since it was probably porous after the bleaching, so she washed the toner out in about 3 minutes. I couldn't believe what a nice colour her hair was afterwards! It went from orangey-yellow to something like this: http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/detail/882337b.jpg I am SO happy I had a bottle of it lying around! I will definitely repurchase this again if there are any accidents or if I were to ever do my own highlights. From what I remember it cost about $8 at my local beauty supply store. Also make sure you mix the toner to a 1:2 ratio with peroxide. I used 20 volume developer since I was afraid that using anything stronger would do too much damage (and I don't think anything stronger is really necessary anyways). What I did was empty the toner into a mixing bowl and then I filled up the toner bottle with the developer, then spilled the developer into the mixing bowl and then repeat once more. I think this method is good so that you ensure you get two equal parts of developer that are approximately the same as the toner (so that I don't end up using too much toner).
