Scrubs -Clinique - 7 day scrub for face
rated 5 of 5
Walko 11/25/2012 2:21:00 PM

This is a very good scrub. It's not rough or drying and I love the fact that it's fragrance free. Just the other day I was reading an article by a dermatologist saying that most allergic reactions in skincare are caused by the FRAGRANCE in the product and I beleive it.To those complaing about the smell of this, you are smelling raw ingredients, far better than harmful perfumes which serve no purpose whatsoever.I use this 2 or 3 times a week, and I also use Paulas choice weekly resurfacing treatment once a week.I find this is all the exfoliating my skin needs. It's not a good idea to over exfoliate, can do more harm than good. This scrubs not the cheapest but it's one of the best so I don't mind and it does last a while.

Toners -Boots - Expert Sensitive Gentle Toner
rated 5 of 5
Walko 11/20/2012 1:23:00 PM

I must be on about my 10th bottle of this. This is just a basic no frills, fragrance free alcohol free and witch hazel free toner, no artificial colours or dyes either. It's excellent to use after cleansing just to make sure everything is removed. A lot of toners contain antioxidants etc these days. But I use an antioxidant rich serum followed by a moisturiser loaded with beneficial ingredients, so personally I don't feel the need in a toner as well.If like me all you want is a basic toner , you won't get any better than this. Here in the uk this is now known as simply sensitive,it's the same product.

Moisturizers -Boots - No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream SPF 15
rated 1 of 5
Walko 11/18/2012 8:06:00 AM

I used this for a long time when it first came out. I beleived all the no7 protect and perfect hype. Now I've done some reseach myself I know better.I'm no expert but there's so much wrong with this. It's perfumed, it contains alcohol denat(skin's enemy) and it's packed in a jar so any beneficial ingredients will not remain stable during use.Just today I was reading on the internet an article by a cosmetic dermatologist saying that most allergic reactions in skincare is caused by perfumes in the product and I beleive him. This is highly perfumed, the smell lingers all day. I could go on but I won't be buying this or any fragranced moisturiser ever again. Fragrance free is the way to go.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow in Blonde
rated 4 of 5
Walko 11/17/2012 1:47:00 PM

This eyeshadow has turned out to be a winner for me..... but not in the way I expected.I bought it to use as an eyeshadow, but it was darker than it looked in the pan.I was really dissapointed. I wanted a fawny brown/beige, this was way too dark.I'm a dark brunette and it's excellent on my brows. I was using the mac expresso eyeshadow on brow and crease before, but this is even better for both. My brows have never looked this good with any powder or pencil. Point is though I bought it to use as eye shadow and even if it had been the right colour , I wasn't impressed with the texture and blendability of this considering the price. However it's great for what I'm using it for.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum
rated 5 of 5
Walko 11/14/2012 3:41:00 PM

I've been using this for a couple of years now and it's excellent.I use it under my moisturiser during the day and at night also.Glides on like silk (yes it does contain silicones) but quickly sinks in to leave lovely soft skin . This is also a superb eye cream. You could get away with using this on it's own at night(not during the day as must be coupled with sunscreen) but I appy a night cream over it. I've definitely noticed a big improvement in my skin since using this especially around the eyes. The crepiness seems to have improved greatly. I'm never going to look 21 again, but products like this will give skin a fightiing chance for the future. Sometimes I also use Paula's choice skin recovery serum . That one contains retinol if that's your preference. These serums are rich in skin beneficial ingredients and are packaged so the ingredients remain stable during use.So glad I found them. My skin is better now than it was years ago.

Moisturizers -Olay - Night of Olay Firming Cream
rated 1 of 5
Walko 11/12/2012 1:57:00 PM

Can't recommend this. All it's got going for it is it's cheap. but I'd rather pay a bit more and get something that worked. Offers nothing in the way of skin beneficial ingredients antioxidants, etc.You can expect so much more in a night cream these days.Don't like the fact it's fragranced either, fragrance isn't skin care. Even as a basic moisturiser it's one of these night creams that stick to your pillow, yuk, no thanks. Olay do a lot of fantastic products, this just isn't one of them

Eye Makeup Remover -Clinique - Take The Day Off Eye Makeup Remover
rated 3 of 5
Walko 11/11/2012 2:07:00 PM

This is a good product. But it's practically identical to the garnier 2 in 1 make up remover. I honestly can't tell the dfference. The difference of course is the price. I can buy about 8 bottles of the garnier one for the price of 1 clinique. Both are excellent at removing eye make up. Both tend to leave a slightly oily residue ,but as I wash afterwards this is not a problem. Both are alcohol and fragrance free.Neither causes dryness.I know which one I'd chose.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Expert Wear Eye Shadow
rated 2 of 5
Walko 11/9/2012 2:21:00 PM

I bought this in chocolate chic and it's not a good eyeshadow. Creases and dosen't blend well.I've found a fantastic use for it though. I'm a brunette and i use it to hide the grey hair at my roots.I just apply it with a powder puff.Works a treat, I've even had people ask me what colour I've got on my hair. Better than any hair crayon. So I will repurchase for my roots. Honestly brunettes , try it.

Other -Paula's Choice - Beautypedia.com
rated 4 of 5
Walko 11/6/2012 8:13:00 AM

I think if you're going to listen to one women's opinion, there's going to be a lot of hit and misses. I bought the book of Paula's a while back, now I just read her reviews on beautypedia online..A lot of her advice is helpful, and I feel I have benefitted. For example, I now avoid products full of denatured alcohol and fragrances, as I genuinelly beleive they are irritants and serve no purpose in skin care whatsoever. However when it comes to her views on exfoliating I totally disagree with her. Paula advises to exfoliate twice a day using a chemical exfoliator. This to me is a nonsense. Exfoliate by all means but twice a day? That will do more harm than good.I've bought products she's recommended and found them excellent. On the other hand, I've wasted money on her recommendations. She has strange views on colour matches, often pointing out this is too yellow, or pink , or peach. For whom?? We are all different. One thing I do agree with her 100%, is sunscreen must be worn 365 days a year, and her sunscreens are excellent. Her line is one of the few that has PURE mineral sunscreens and this is a godsend for me as I can't tolerate chemical sunscreen around eyes. To sum it up I do admire Paula and her work and will continue to seek her advice, I just won't agree with it all. And I've got to say Paula's antioxidant serums are second too none, absolutely excellent. Also something else I've learnt from Paula, expensive isn't always best , that is oh soooo true.Yes there's a lot of cheap rubbish out there, but worse still , there's a lot of expensive rubbish. It's the formulation that counts NOT the price.

Lipstick -Rimmel - Lasting Finish - Pink Blush
rated 5 of 5
Walko 11/6/2012 7:01:00 AM

Lovely lipstick.I'm really into pale pinks and this one is a beauty. It reminds me of my mac creemsheen in creme cup a little bolder in colour, but at less than a quarter of the price. It's not matte and it's not shiny, somewhere inbetween which is what i like. I wouldn't say it was long lasting but it does stay on a reasonable time.I don't get the blue tone that a lot of people mention , to me it's just pink.It does have a distinctive smell which might me off putting for some, but it dosen't really bother me.I'm really liking this lipstick, not crazy about the packaging , kinda boring but at the price can hardly complain.

Toners -Paula's Choice - RESIST Advanced Replenishing Toner Skin Remodeling Complex
rated 4 of 5
Walko 11/5/2012 11:35:00 AM

I wouldn't really class this as a toner. It's a good product , but its more like a serum. If you're using an antioxidant serum and an antioxidant moisturiser as well I don't think this toner is really necessary. I use a cheap toner by boots and sometimes the Clinique mild toner as it's a mild exfoliant, but i don't see the point in this one for reasons I've already mentioned. If you skip the serum step I suppose this would be beneficial, otherwise unnecessary.Paula herself used to say that toners weren't needed as a good cleanser should do the job.If you're still getting a whole load of gunk on a cotton pad with a toner after cleansing,I would rethink my cleansing regime. This is a good product though and I am a big fan of Paula's.

Pressed Powders -Rimmel - Stay Matte Pressed Powder (ALL)
rated 1 of 5
Walko 11/2/2012 1:56:00 PM

This stuff is awful and I'm quite a fan of rimmel. It was chalky , made me look ghost like and it went on patchy. It's far too fragranced as well. Nothing good to say about it at all. I'm not a make up snob and buy quite a lot of cheapies, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Sunscreen -L'Oreal - Solar Expertise Active Anti-Wrinkle & Brown Spot Matte Fluid Protection SPF50+
rated 1 of 5
Walko 11/2/2012 10:02:00 AM

I used this a few years back and I really loved it. Over the last few years I've done quite a lot of research into skin care ingredients what's irritating etc, and was horrified to discover this is FULL of denatured alcohol. I wouldn't go near this now.Yes it's ok as a sunscreen, but it's like robbing peter to pay paul. Protect your skin from the sun with spf , but ruin it with alcohol and the amount of alcohol this contains is irritating to say the least. There are far better sunscreens out there without the added irritants.

Concealers -Collection 2000 - Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer
rated 4 of 5
Walko 11/2/2012 6:42:00 AM

This is as good as it gets at the drug store. Dosen't crease, reasonable selection of colours and it lasts. Some are compairing it to ELDW and I understand this, but the EL one has spf , something this is lacking in.Every little bit of sunscreen helps, so I'd buy the EL one before this but at the price of the collection 2OOO, its worth having in your make up bag.

Cleansers -Alpha Hydrox - Foaming Face Wash
rated 5 of 5
Walko 11/2/2012 3:52:00 AM

Lovely product, one of my favourites. A little goes a long way, does not dry out the skin and is fragrance free.I hate fragranced skin care, that nice smell that so many people seem to want in their face creams and washes is not skin care.No dry tight feeling after using this, just nice and soft. This is a water soluable cleanser with just a slight foaming action.I will buy this again and again.
