Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Cream Shadow Stick - Lavender
Tuscana 10/4/2004 12:16:00 AM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. I bought some of these Cream Shadow Sticks and had been ignoring them while I played with other things. I swiped the Lavender on my lower lids (even over powder shadows that I'd been wearing all day) and was wowed by the perfect pastel lavender color ... which really enhanced my brown eyes (I can't imagine any eye color that doesn't look good with colors in the purple family). I also liked that this was a pastel on me and not brownish (I have lots of those hues); but it's not brilliant, just very soft. Yes, it's almost like a cream stick foundation consistency. But, I didn't even bother to blend it much except at the very edges, and it looked great. I had no idea I'd like this so much.

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Tulle
Tuscana 10/3/2004 11:26:00 PM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their lipsticks is that the colors are skin tone flattering, moist, never garish, and can be casual or dressed up. This is the lip color that came as part of the Baby Pink Collection. It's a very light neutral pink, not as brown as some of the other neutrals but not high impact pink either. I'm sure this would be great for those with lighter skin than mine. On my lips, which have quite a bit of natural pigment, it actually blends entirely into my lips but makes them look more finished than if I was wearing nothing. Great for every day and yes, especially for Spring where you might want subdued day color. For more impact, I'd add some gloss. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. This pink would work for anyone that can wear pinks (pink is one of my best colors).

Blush -Bobbi Brown - Blush - Pink Rose
Tuscana 10/3/2004 11:19:00 PM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their powder blushes is that the colors are skin tone flattering, highly pigmented, and finely milled. This is the blush that came as part of the Baby Pink Collection. It's described as "rosy pink"; it is indeed in the rose family but has pale pink added. It's quite toned down and I think would work on all but the darker skin tones (but maybe as a highlighter for those tones?). On my skin, it shows up as a very light matte toned down pink ... great for every day and yes, especially for Spring where you might want subdued day color. As another reviewer suggested, I added a dusting from the Pink Shimmer Brick Compact to liven it up a bit ... a very subtle and nice result. For even more impact, I'd add a pop of Peony. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. This pink would work for anyone that can wear pinks (pink is one of my best colors).

Other -Bobbi Brown - Brush Holder
Tuscana 10/3/2004 12:26:00 AM
I admit it ... I've become a Bobbi Brown fanatic. To wit ... as I'm already a makeup fanatic, I'd run out of containers to hold the myriad number of brushes, lip liners, and eye liners that I own. SO I just *had* to hunt down the Brush Holder. Yes, it's expensive (it'd be a marvelous gift for the girlfriend that has everything) but it's quite sizable and functional ... and it *is* supposed to be elegant. It does look chic with the faux leather (oh! thank you reviewer "Helen" ... I didn't realize it was washable). I love that it's got a divider cutting the cylinder in half and that one side has a higher floor so your short brushes and items don't get lost. Nice and heavy so it doesn't tip over and dump your brushes. I love it and I'm glad I got it. Now the brushes lying on the table are in the holder :-)

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Lip Color - Warm Apricot
Tuscana 10/3/2004 12:11:00 AM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their lip products is that the colors are skin tone flattering, moist, and can be casual or dressed up. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. Having become a Bobbi Brown fanatic, I was hunting through the lip products today for something warm-toned as I seem to have so many cool-toned items. I'd been playing with the Blush - Nectar (gorzhwah ... my Nordie's was out of it so I've got to go elsewhere) and had the MUA apply this Warm Apricot to my lips. She lined my lips with the Creamy Lip Liner - Cola. Wow ... these apricotty colors make me look like my skin is younger and glowing (she also swiped a bit of Extra Eye Balm under the outside corner of my eyes and down onto the cheekbones). This has just a touch of brown in it so it's not as orange as the Lip Color - Orange nor as coral as the Lip Color - Mango; this comes out more of a color like the red-orange color on a peach's skin and my lips, which have a good amount of pigmentation in them, adds a pink undertone. This Warm Apricot is a winner ... as it's so fresh-looking with my skin, it'll work all year ... but I can't wait for summer to return to try this with a tan (mine are self-applied).

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - SPF 15 Lip Shine - Claret
Tuscana 10/2/2004 11:52:00 PM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their lip products is that the colors are skin tone flattering, moist, and can be casual or dressed up. SPF 15 Lip Shine is advertised as "Creamy lipstick with SPF 15 and Vitamins E and C soothes, hydrates, and minimizes chapping. Adds color and shine to lips with conditioning benefits that work even after color is removed." I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. I can't often wear the blue-red family of lip colors with too much blue (they look garish) but one of the best blue-reds on me is anything that hints of a fuschia. This is not a fuschia ... it's a medium rose. This applies very sheerly but does indeed lay down color on my lips ... and because my lips have quite a bit of pigmentation, this comes out looking like the color of a soft medium raspberry (close enough to a fuschia). With no liner, this was very subdued. With Creamy Lip Liner - Nude Pink (edges well blended) this gave me a MLBB pout without being over the top. When it wears off, it still leaves some color stain behind (YAYYYYY). It comes as a thin lipstick in a swivel-up tube ... just like a typical lipstick. This is a great daytime product (including for the office) but with more liner or liner as a base underneath, this gives me LIPS that were bitten.

Lipstick -Bobbi Brown - Lip Shine- Blackberry

This is for the "SPF 15 Lip Shine - Black Berry". The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their lip products is that the colors are skin tone flattering, moist, and can be casual or dressed up. It's a darker plum in the tube but on my lips, which have quite a bit of pigmentation, this comes out looking like the color of a red plum's skin; still a dark plum but my lip color showing through adds enough red (or pink) to make this bright. With no liner, this was very subdued. With Creamy Lip Liner - Raisin (edges well blended) this gave me quite a sexy pout without being over the top. When it wears off, it still leaves some color stain behind (YAYYYYY). It comes as a thin lipstick in a swivel-up tube ... just like a typical lipstick. This is a definite seduction item.

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Ombre D'Eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow - #30 - Bayou
Tuscana 10/2/2004 11:12:00 PM
Sometimes Chanel misses the mark with gimmicks (to wit, their recent Levres Impressions) but with these fluid eyeshadows, they were right on. The clerk said there was water in the solution (hence you always shake them first ... they settle while they sit) ... and they're easy to remove. Easy to remove but stay put on your lids. They're not what I call glittery but more of an iridescent sheen (my preference). You can paint them directly on for a more solid effect or pat around with your fingers to haze them out. They even look good on my lids (I'm 50) without showing wrinkles. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. Being so happy with the Bay (50), the Sand (60), and the Source (40), I just had to run get the others. There was some problem with the Glacier and I think no more will be available (too bad as I know the contrast of iced sky blue would have been a terrific look with my brown eyes). Today I got my hands on the Fountain (20) and the Bayou (30). The Bayou is a wonderfully dark plum ... like a black plum. When I rubbed it into my crease it gave a fantastic iridescent yet smokey look. Great with brown eyes ... any eye color if you ask me (I think the "purple" color family works with all eyes). Can't you just imagine this with a tan? Wipe it down if wearing for day ... keep it solid for a dressy evening occasion. Now ... if they'd just make a chocolate. Love the applicator, too.

But oh what a gorgeous pink ... it looks like cool pastel pink icing. This is perfect under my brows or on my lids just above liner to open my eyes. Can't you just imagine this with a tan? Wipe it down if wearing for day ... keep it solid for a dressy evening occasion. Now ... if they'd just make a chocolate. Love the applicator, too.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Eye Kohl Palette
Tuscana 10/1/2004 12:14:00 AM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. I was delighted to get my hands on the new Eye Kohl Palette (aka Flat). They do indeed look like chalk blocks of pigment: Black, Indigo, Blue, and Khaki. These are as gorgeous as I'd hoped and I wore the Khaki today. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. I wanted "opposites" today (red and green for contrast) and decided to do something similar to one of Bobbi Brown's suggested combinations (Eye Shadow - Vanilla with Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner - Hunter Ink) so I used Eye Shadow - Bone as an all-over base on my lids, Eye Shadow - Cream on the lower lids up to just above the crease, and then used the flat brush in the palette to apply the Eye Kohl - Khaki as a fine liner above (I used a Lancôme Le Stylo khaki green below); I smudged both liners. Black mascara to finish things off, Cream Blush Stick - Red Berry on the cheeks; then Creamy Lip Liner - Tawny as lip liner, and Shimmer Lip Tint SPF 15 - Bare Shimmer on my lips. The look was a step up from neutral but not garish or overly colored for my skin tone. I played with the other blocks in the palette and saw that you can lightly brush them on for a sheer wash, too. You do need to do the trick of applying a bit of face powder under your eyes to catch any color when you're applying the kohls (then brush it away when you're done with your eyes). I've become a BB fanatic for being able to look as classically polished as I want all the way to glammed up; it's great to have some choices with more oomph to play with. I just proved to myself today that I can use the Eye Kohls for everyday wear if I want to or pump them up for more effect. This Khaki looks very green in the block but did come out smoky ... in fact, all the Kohls (both shimmers and flats) have a smokiness. The Indigo looks like it hints of violet in the block but does come out more like slightly faded denims where as the Blue indeed is more like a medium dark blue. The cost was $37 USD for 4 big blocks of color plus a double-ended brush (eye shadow on one end, flat shadow liner on the other end) ... so $9.25 per shadow or call it $7.40 per item in the collection (4 shadows and a brush) ... or even call it $6.16 per item if you call the brush 2 items ... however you want to look at it. NOTE: For both the shimmers and the flats, as the pigment is so rich, if I want to do a wash of color I *LIGHTLY* brush a block with a brush like a very soft flexible ponytail brush ... or too much color picks up. These will last me a long time. I reviewed the Shimmer Eye Kohl Palette previously.

Makeup Brushes -Bobbi Brown - Powder Brush - short handle
Tuscana 9/30/2004 1:27:00 AM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. My face powder brush (from Prescriptives) was a hunnert years old, and although I will *not* toss it, it has become very worn out and hard to clean (it's still a great brush but I really did need a new one). Because I thoroughly appreciate all my other BB brushes, I decided to try BB's powder brush. I love it; it picks up exactly the right amount of powder and lays it down exactly as I want it to. I promise to take great care of this new brush (hey, that Pres brush has taken a lifetime of abuse when I didn't know how to take care of brushes like I do now). I prefer the short handles as I have a tendency to bang the mirror with longer handles and these are easier to pack and store.
