Blush -MAC - Sheertone Blush in Coygirl
Kiwikava 10/5/2003 6:34:00 PM
I have to disagree with the majority of positive reviews on this particular blush. This isn't a plum color at all and looks horrible with my neutral/cool PPP skin!!! This is coming from someone who wears plum, pink, and other cool-tone colors very well!! Coygirl looks incredibly fake as a blush color, and I don't know of anyone whose skin turns that color naturally. If you don't believe me, go to the MAC counter and see for yourself. I like the texture of Sheertone blushes, but this particular color is vastly overrated, IMHO.

Lipstick -Lancome - Juicy Rouge
Kiwikava 9/30/2003 12:55:00 PM
Oh, how I love my Juicy Rouge!! I bought "Sugar Plum" about a week ago, and it's such a lovely color that brightens my face! It stays on pretty well, too--longer than a gloss. And the holographic packaging is just beautiful!!

Moisturizers -Urban Decay - Guardian Angel Moisturizer
Kiwikava 9/29/2003 8:31:00 PM
This could be my HG sunscreen/moisturizer!! I've been using a sample of this (the oil-free version) for about a week now, since my other sunscreen (Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock in SPF30) broke me out horribly. Let me tell you, this Guardian Angel works wonders!!! It is a super light and fresh lotion that absorbs into my skin and makes my face GLOW! Not a greasy glow, but a healthy, natural one. Plus, my foundation glides right over this with no problems and looks great all day long--no shiny face! So far this hasn't broken me out, which is a very good thing for me because I normally have a problem with cystic acne. Since my sample is almost gone and my face is looking so great lately with this product, I will definitely go out and spend the $20. I've tried so many other brands, and they cannot even compare to this!! A small price to pay for great-looking skin!!

Moisturizers -Olay - Olay Complete - Fragrance Free
Kiwikava 9/28/2003 3:55:00 PM
I'm in the minority here when I say that I don't like this product. Olay Complete is simply too thick and doesn't sink into your face. Instead, it just sits there and messes up whatever foundation or powder you put on your face. That's what it did to me when I put on my MaquiControle foundation. Plus, being a "moisturizer", it doesn't seem to moisturize very well. Also, my face turned extremely greasy later on in the day, and I ended up getting some major whiteheads and a few pimples on my nose. I can't say if this sunscreen causes cystic acne because I haven't used it for very long, but I definitely think that people with oily, acne-prone skin like mine should stay away from products like this containing physical sunscreens such as Zinc Oxide, and any kind of oils (this sunscreen is NOT oil-free). These aren't my only complaints. I hear that Olay also tests on animals, something which I'm completely against.

Cleansers -Alpha Hydrox - Foaming Face Wash
Kiwikava 9/22/2003 7:09:00 PM
This cleanser is pretty average, IMO. It doesn't really foam up, and I've noticed that I really have to massage my skin in order to get all my makeup off. I have to agree with SunnyK's review. This dried out my very oily skin and caused it to flake! My complexion looked dull after using this for about a week. I won't be repurchasing this cleanser.

Liquid -Lancome - MaquiControle [DISCONTINUED]
Kiwikava 9/11/2003 6:51:00 PM
This is hands-down my Holy Grail foundation!!! I honestly cannot rave enough about how much I love this stuff!!! MaquiControle is the *ONLY* foundation that doesn't turn my face into a huge oil slick, and I only have to touch up once during the day!! And believe me, I've tried numerous other foundations and got less than satisfactory results. I currently use the lightest shade Lancome offers, Porcelain d'Ivoire, and it provides medium coverage while looking *completely natural* on my face. So, in other words, *NO* turning orange, streaking, caking, or thick mess whatsoever!!! You have to blend quickly, however, but once you've got it down, your face will look flawless--like porcelain--for HOURS!! This foundation doesn't break me out at all, which is another huge plus. It doesn't contain sunscreen though, so you might want to try Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Sunblock in SPF 30 underneath it. This combination is PERFECT for me, and my face looks flawless all day long!!!! I truly hope they never discontinue this foundation! All oily-skinned ladies out there should seriously try this foundation NOW!!!!

Treatments -Neutrogena - Clear Pore Treatment [DISCONTINUED]
Kiwikava 9/10/2003 5:23:00 PM
I really like this product! After running out of PC 2% BHA, I needed something quickly from the drugstore that would unclog my pores. I was crossing my fingers hoping this would work, since many reviews here indicated that it wouldn't, due to the high PH. Well, much to my surprise, this gel cleared my skin in THREE days!! It dissolved my whiteheads and blackheads, and my cystic acne bumps completely went away!! The red marks are slowly starting to fade, thank goodness! I will definitely continue using this BHA until I can order from PC again.

Foundations -L'Oreal - Quickstick Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
Kiwikava 9/10/2003 5:16:00 PM
Hmmm, I wanted to like this foundation, but I couldn't get any of the lightest colors to work. Soft Ivory and Pale were both too dark and pink. Are *any* drugstore foundations truly neutral?? This foundation stick covered pretty well, but it was difficult to remove with a standard cleanser.

Liquid -Almay - Almay Amazing Lasting Foundation ] [DISCONTINUED]
Kiwikava 9/2/2003 5:37:00 PM
I have to agree with yoursisterdebra's review. I finally bought this after reading all the various raves, hoping to find something cheaper that would replace my beloved Maquicontrole foundation. I was disappointed with the way this Almay foundation looked on my face. It was extremely thick, and I couldn't get it to blend evenly, no matter how hard I tried. And I attempted to thin it down with some moisturizer or sunscreen, but the result was the same. I've used plenty of other oil-free or matte foundations before and never experienced such difficulty in application. This also didn't cover very well, though it looked thick and cakey on my skin. The color "Pale" was a little off, too, and wasn't light or neutral enough for my skin. The foundation did stay on the entire day--the only good point--but I looked like I was wearing a thick mask. Very difficult to remove, too, and by the end of the day my very oily skin was left dehydrated. I was hoping my search for an HG foundation for oily skin would end here, but I'm sorry to say that it didn't. Don't bother with this foundation. It's not worth the hassle. Two thumbs down.

Eyeliner -MAC - MAC Powerpoint eyeliner
Kiwikava 8/26/2003 1:49:00 PM
I am happy to say that these eyeliners really do work! I have Stubborn Brown and Engraved, and they actually last all day long--an amazing feat, considering the fact that I have very oily eyelids and skin and wear contacts. As long as I'm wearing my MAC paint and don't use a greasy eye cream, then I have no problems! The colors are beautiful--deep and rich. The price isn't too bad either ($13 USD), and you get a lot of product for your money, more than, say, Revlon's Colorstay eyeliners. The only way this eyeliner could possibly be improved is if MAC decided to make it a little bit drier so you don't have to sharpen it so much. The tip tends to be a little blunt. Other than that, I think it's safe to say that MAC Powerpoint pencils are my HG eyeliners! Try these out sometime!

Eye Makeup Remover -Lancome - Effacil eye make-up remover
Kiwikava 8/26/2003 1:35:00 PM
I really don't like this product for a few reasons: 1) It doesn't remove my eye makeup as easily as Bifacil does. I like to wear MAC's waterproof Paints on a daily basis underneath my eyeshadows. That means I have to really scrub my eyelids to get all that off. Not good, since that contributes to wrinkles. 2) It dries out the skin around my eyes! Yes, the instant this solution comes in contact with my skin, it BURNS and turns my skin red! Ouch! 3) The smell is a little too strong for my taste, which irritates my eyes. 4) It's too pricey for what it does. There are comparable eye makeup removers in the drugstore. I'm sticking with Bifacil, which is far more effective and superior--and easier on my eyelids.

Concealers -Lancome - Photogenic Skin-Illuminating Concealer
Kiwikava 8/25/2003 1:17:00 PM
BIG, HUGE RAVE for Photogenic concealer!!!!! I bought this over the weekend because my previous PX concealers just weren't working for me anymore (too greasy, didn't cover well, didn't last). Anyway, I thought I would just go by the Lancome counter and try out their Photogenic concealer. I picked up a q-tip and applied the Ivoire shade, and I fell in love INSTANTLY!!! This just melted into my skin, and covered really well, and looked like I wasn't wearing anything! Needless to say, I bought this. PROS: 1) It covers dark circles and blemishes really, really well, while looking extremely natural. I look SO MUCH MORE awake with this stuff on. 2) This stays put on my oily skin and doesn't budge, even in 90+ degree weather!!! 3) Also, the color is extremely neutral and works with my very fair skin. 4) It contains full-spectrum sunscreen (SPF15), and I haven't broken out at all! 5) A little goes a LONG WAY. I seriously think this stuff will last me more than a year (using daily)!! $22 for 0.16 oz isn't bad at all, especially since a mere speck covers so much!! CONS: Only one==> I have to make sure that my eye cream isn't too emollient nor too dry, otherwise it doesn't look right under my eyes. But that's the case with any concealer really. My HG concealer. Try this stuff out as soon as you can!!

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum Express Mascara
Kiwikava 8/22/2003 6:31:00 PM
OK, I'm really disappointed in this mascara. I just bought this yesterday from Rite-Aid after reading all the raves. I was expecting this to transform my puny, thin lashes into the most gorgeous lashes ever. BUT, I ended up with even thinner, clumped, sticky lashes! I thought maybe I had applied this mascara incorrectly, but no, the second time the effect was just the same. I guess this will just have to go right back to Rite-Aid. Still on the search for my HG mascara.

Treatments -Alpha Hydrox - 10% AHA Gel
Kiwikava 7/15/2003 6:18:00 PM
This stuff really works!!! I'm amazed at how much clearer my complexion looks! I've had considerably fewer breakouts and smoother, even skin ever since I started using this (about a year ago). This even causes old acne scars and freckles to fade! I'm definitely hooked on this product! Holy Grail!
