Treatments -Mario Badescu - Drying Lotion
rated 3 of 5
Jenny 12/17/2002 4:36:00 PM

CONS: alcohol may sting; flakes of calamine fall off when dry; COMMENTS: contains two phases - a solid one containing mostly calamine lotion and sulfur, a liquid one containing salicylic acid and alcohol; does dry pimples quickly but this is a messy preparation; not recommended for day use because pink calamine tint probably won't match your skintone

PROS: tube form; CONS: hard to apply with gummy texture, difficult to remove, noticed no change in complexion, this is a peel-off mask

Lip Treatments -Perfumeria Gal - Red Currant Lip Balm
rated 2 of 5

COMMENTS: I admit I bought this because of the cute tins; the product itself does have the texture of vaseline; it is lightly flavored, heavily scented; each tin is $5

Fragrances -Marc Jacobs - Eau De Parfum
rated 3 of 5

COMMENTS: fragrance is a YMMV. To me, this is a heavy, sexy gardenia fragrance. Other notes include cedar, ginger and musk. A 3.4 oz EDT retails for $80. Although I like gardenia, I'm on the fence about purchasing.

Fragrances -Giorgio Beverly Hills - Red
rated 2 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 4:33:00 PM

COMMENTS: fragrance is a YMMV; when I was 18, I won a promotional at Foley's for wearing the best all-red outfit at work; the prize was a GBH Red gift set containing lotion and cologe; I'd call this a sensual, bold scent of flowers and musk; notes include jasmine, peach, rose, orange flower, musk, carnation, marigold, and moss; at the time, I was too young for this scent and I think I still am; I ended up giving this to my mother who liked it but never wore it

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Red Door
rated 1 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 4:26:00 PM

COMMENTS: fragrance is a YMMV; notes of fruit (peach, plum) and flowers (ylang-ylang, jasmine and lily of the valley) in a slightly sweet heavy floral; I had a hard time detecting the fruit; retails for $30-40 for 1.7-3.4 oz spray; this one makes me gag - I didn't like it on me, on someone else, or just in the air.

Fragrances -Carolina Herrera - Chic
rated 1 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 4:20:00 PM

COMMENTS: fragrance is a YMMV; I'd describe this as a floral with some woodsy tones and a little sweetness; great for spring/summer; I would have liked this except that there is a noticeable rose note and I am not a rose fan; 1.7 oz spray retails for $54 while the 2.7 oz version retails for $72 at www.saksfifthavenue.com

Primer/ Corrector -Yves Saint Laurent - Touche Eclat (Radiant Touch)
rated 2 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 3:59:00 PM

PROS: built-in brush applicator pen style; COMMENTS: not enough coverage; colors did not work for me, a thin cream formula; just like Stila's lip glaze pen, you have to be careful regarding how much product comes out

Concealers -Ramy Beauty Therapy - Skin Sticks
rated 3 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 3:55:00 PM

COMMENTS: good design (like Stila lip glaze packaging) with brush built in; I chose #3 which was very yellow; on me, this looked unnatural; a thin cream consistency

Makeup Brushes -Shu Uemura - #4F nylon brush
rated 4 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 3:52:00 PM

PROS: good quality; COMMENTS: nylon bristles can be used for applying powder or cream eyeliners, can also be used to smudge pencil liners, flat cut brush, flat ferrule, long wooden handle, one of my favorite eyelining brushes, I also have 5F but think 4F is a little easier to use to apply eyeliner, retails for $11 on beauty.com

Makeup Brushes -Shu Uemura - Handy Brush 17 - Pony
rated 3 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 3:41:00 PM

PROS: soft pony hair, portable size; CONS: brush head is no bigger than what you get with your typical blush applicators in blush compacts; I prefer a larger brush head for blush application; retails for $35 at beauty.com

Makeup Brushes -Shu Uemura - Travel Powder Brush
rated 2 of 5
Jenny 12/16/2002 3:39:00 PM

PROS: sleek packaging, retractable brush, good quality; CONS: no lid; COMMENTS: retractable brush but leaves end where brush head is exposed, brush head is made of goat hair, a larger brush head would be better for loose powder application. I think you can get a better brush for this price.
