Eyeliner -Urban Decay - 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
DrMAC 9/26/2010 10:53:00 PM
I will give UD this -- it is a soft and smooth eyeliner and a true black color. It does smudge, but almost all eyeliners smudge on my eyes. I got this as part of my naked palette. I would consider repurchasing it, if I felt like buying a high end eyeliner that is super soft.... otherwise, I would get my staple -- styli style black eyeliner ($5.99!) or my bobbi brown gel eyeliner....
I was one of the lucky people that saw this foundation at the MAC counter, and they happened to have my color in stock (NC20, I'm usually NC20-25). The MA told me they have been out of it for months, due to popular demand.. and I now know why! The coverage you get makes your face look flawless.. it is not a heavy foundation either! I would advise to moisturize ahead of time (I get some dry flakes prior to applying cream type foundation if I don't! My skin is dryyy!) and you will get flawless coverage with a sponge, fingers, or a duo fibre brush! You will still need to use concealer on those problem spots, but other than that, you will look fantastic. I finish off with mineralize skinfinish in medium. This has not broken me out. the other mineralize foundation (with the pump) broke me out and I don't usually break out anymore! Anyway, I don't use this foundation every day because my skin is pretty clear, but I think putting saran wrap/press and seal wouldn't be a bad idea to prevent it from drying out! Love love love!
Makeup Brushes -Sigma - Makeup Professional Brushes Face and Eyes Kit
DrMAC 9/26/2010 9:38:00 PM
I've had these brushes for almost a year, and I realized I never reviewed them! When I first got them, I thought they were fabulous. I mean seriously, 5 brushes for $54?? They look just like MAC. The pics are deceiving (above), because this set comes with 5 brushes only: Large Powder - F30 Duo Fibre - F50 Pencil - E30 Tapered Blending - E40 Eye Shading - E55 Buffer - F45 The F45 and F30 SHED LIKE A MOTHER. I did not know the extent of this until I used Mac's new mineralized skinfinish foundation (the compact one) and the hairs were so stuck on my face after dusting with mineralize skinfinish, that it hurt to pinch all the hairs off my face. Very disappointing. My duo fibre brush is kind of sparse (may have been before they beefed it up) but it is ok for blush application and prob for foundation stippling as well. I thought they shed a little bit at first, but they all still shed quite a lot and they are getting more bristly instead of softer. The eyebrushes, on the other hand, are fantastic. I would repurchase their eye brushes, because they are quite good (but hey, so are sonia kashuk's!!!) but definately not the face brushes.
Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara
DrMAC 9/19/2010 10:20:00 PM
Oh wow! Really, Maybelline made this mascara? I get long fluttery eyelashes that look almost identical when I use lancome hypnose waterproof. Wow. I am amazed. Holds a curl. Lengthens and thickens. I'm sold. I have very difficult eyelashes... I think the only worse lashes you could have would be short and stumpy or no eyelashes at all. I have stubbornly straight short, sparse asian lashes.. doesn't hold a curl without a heated eyelash curler and most mascaras don't work on me because the big brushes miss most of my lashes. Sad. This brush has a pretty big brush yet picks up my lashes...even my really sparse bottom lashes The brush has a shape similar to a MAC plush lash, yet plush lash mascara weighs my eyelashes down. This is amazing. My new HG mascara. I will never spend more as long as they continue to make this!
UPDATE: Since buying this pallette months ago, I don't really reach for it as much. I think it is because I haven't figured out which ones have so much glitter it causes fall out all over my cheeks. I do my makeup in 5 minutes in the morning due to how much I work, and having sparkles all over my cheeks is just not professional. I've noticed all the non glittery colors are great but the rest is not. This palette is better than most UD palettes though! I would not repurchase.. back to my MAC eyeshadows! Original review: I was a little skeptical that this palette could be so awesome since all the other UD eye palettes are so sparkly and chunky... and I am a working professional with a preference for neutral but pretty eye colors. I also am not a big UD fan as the primer potion bottle design is horrible, and the e/s are pretty expensive individually vs mac e/s. The quality of the e/s in this palette are amazing.. the case is a little tacky but at least there is a mirror. I am very picky about eyeliners which this one that comes with the kit smears under my eyes even with the primer potion (I have oily oily eyelids)...but the eye shadows are fantastic. I was a little scared to get my 'creep' on.. but that color is key to making a smokey neutral eye look from night to day... I hope this stays permanent... best palette ever.
I love that there are so many eye shadows in this palette..... but I don't know if it is just me, but the lighter colors in the palette don't show up on me well and when I run my brush over them, it seems like there is a lot of fallout left on the pan, especially compared to MAC or NARS e/s. The darker colors are good for lining the eyelash area, or using subtly in the crease. I think it blends well once applied but the texture of the e/s has an unusual amount of fall out. I will use it up, but would not repurchase.
Blush -MAC - Beauty Powder Blush in Tippy (Hello Kitty)
DrMAC 5/5/2010 4:09:00 PM
I bought this mainly for the hello kitty packaging! I actually have not used this much since the line came out last year--the color scared me at first. I then was cleaning, noticed that it was a fresh pink I could try to wear for spring! I use a duofibre brush, and pat it on my apples of my cheeks, and it gives a nice pink flush to the skin! Use a light hand and blend and it looks amazing! I love it! I don't think I'll ever run out just because you don't need much to get nice flush!
Mascara -Shu Uemura - Precise Volume Mascara Waterproof
DrMAC 4/27/2010 11:54:00 AM
HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE MASCARA! If you have short stubby downward pointing lashes that don't hold a curl, this is the mascara for you!! I curl my lashes with shu's curler (heated under blowdryer for several secs) then apply this mascara -- it will hold the curl and lengthen without looking clumpy. It is waterproof which I prefer because my eyes water naturally throughout the day. It can be hard to take off, but usually the following day, it is still curled, esp if I don't use a waterproof eye makeup remover. I think this product is absolutely amazing. I hope they still make it available after shu leaves US department stores.
Primer/ Corrector -Laura Mercier - Foundation Primer - Hydrating
DrMAC 4/27/2010 12:07:00 AM
I am so sad I have to write a bad review on a LM product! I've used the regular LM primer without any issues, so since I have dry skin, I thought the hydrating one would work great. Boy, I wish that was the case. So, I wore this for several days before I noticed that within minutes of applying this primer, I developed little red bumps on my forehead, cheeks, and chin and those areas LOOKED irritated. I have very porcelain skin so it was very obvious--I gasped when I finally made the connection with the primer. There must be some ingredient in the primer that is acidic or really irritating. My skin is sometimes sensitive, but even after days of not using it, I still have these bumps, although not red, still on my face. Do not use this if you have sensitive skin or are acne prone. I recommend the regular primer instead!
Tinted Moisturizer -Laura Mercier - Flawless Face Kit- Nude
DrMAC 4/26/2010 11:56:00 PM
I bought this mainly to get a 'travel kit' and for the primer. I recently dove into the world of LM. I love her moisturizing and oil free foundation. The primer is great. The tinted moisturizer is good light coverage on a day you don't want a full foundation. I apply it with my fingers, not the sponge just because it is less fuss. The puff is luxurious, and makes the translucent powder go on well and really 'sets' your face. Actually, you could take this powder and the puff and set any foundation with a flawless finish! The secret camoflage I don't use often b/c I don't break out too often anymore but the secret concealer covers undereye circles well!-- just dab, and let it melt in and then pat it in with your ring finger instead of rubbing it in. The brushes are amazing but I would not purchase these on their own b/c I could never justify spending so much money on brushes. The makeup sponge is excellent for foundation application. Overall, a good set if you want to sample, but I agree with the other reviewers--if you have widespread acne on your face, this is not the kit for you as you will need fuller coverage!
I really like the color this adds to my cheeks.. a dark mauve-y flush, but I have to use a reaaaaaally light hand, or I look really muddy.. definately cannot put it all over my face without looking like I have been playing in the dirt. I like the darker color in the 10 box powder better since I can apply it less carefully. It is alright. I wouldn't repurchase although it will take me many many years to finish this off!
Cleansers -Shu Uemura - High Performance Balancing Oil - enriched version
DrMAC 4/24/2010 10:41:00 AM
This is a great cleansing oil for my dry skin! I think it is a little thinner in consistency than the regular (green bottle one) but it takes off all my makeup, even waterproof. I usually use it prior to getting in the shower so I can rinse it off really well and it leaves my skin baby soft.. I think by softening my skin it has rehydrated and reversed some fine wrinkles around my eyes. I will repurchase for life.
Why are these lipsticks gritty and not moisturizing at all??? So disappointing.. don't waste your $$
Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst Lipstick in Blush 035 [DISCONTINUED]
DrMAC 4/23/2010 5:02:00 PM
I bought this lipstick with the nude color in a buy 2 get 1 free at ulta. This pink is a little paler than my lip color, but it is very wearable, and moisturizing. I usually buy department store lipsticks bc they don't have an offensive odor like drugstore lipsticks do (eg l'oreal lipsticks!) and this has basically no smell. Another reviewer said it smells a little plastic-y but it is very faint and only if you sniff it directly.. no smell compared to the color sensational lippies! I would repurchase.. and buy more colors! This lipstick is amazing!
Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Stylish Smokes in Natural Smokes
DrMAC 4/19/2010 3:18:00 PM
This is a decent drugstore eyeshadow set that will give you a nice smokey eye. I wouldn't say it is natural as the outer corner and crease colors are intense! The pigmentation is decent for drug store, but the highlight color barely is pigmented. I still love MAC eyeshadows, but this would do if I were on a budget and wanted a cheaper version. The eyeshadows are not silky and buttery but the pigmentation is alright. I will have to try some of the other sets. I still think NYX probably makes the best drugstore eyeshadows but their sets that are more natural looking arent in regular stores and you have to buy it online....
