Fragrances -Cacharel - Eau D'Eden
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 11:42:00 PM
This is in my top three list of favorite fragrances. I grew up in France and developed an early taste for fragrances (no stereotype intended). I accumulated a lot of them throughout the years, but this is one I keep coming back to. It is very feminine, light and a little musky, and I love that it stays on my skin for so long. I find that the scent develops into a warm, sexy floral on my skin. I love it and plan to repurchase it when I run out.

Lip Gloss -Bourjois - Effet 3 D Lipgloss
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 11:37:00 PM
I bought a couple of these last time I was in France, and they are fantastic. I think Bourjois has the best packaging for a drugstore brand (well, it is a drugstore brand in France, anyway). The lip brush applicator is great. The color is buildable- you can apply a little bit to give just a tint to lips, or apply it more heavily for a lipstick look. I lost mine while on vacation, but will definitely repurchase next time I am in France. These are fun, inexpensive, good quality lipglosses.

Blush -Wet 'n' Wild - Twist-up Blush Stick [DISCONTINUED]
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:44:00 PM
I love these! I had been looking for a good blush stick for a long time, and what a surprise to find out that Wet and Wild has them! I just swipe the stick across my cheeks and blend in with my fingers- very fast, easy and foolprook for a klutz like me. I would definitely repurchase, although I think the one I have is going to last me forever. I have been using it for two weeks, and the stick has not gone down at all yet.

Moisturizers -Nuxe - Creme Fraiche Concentree de Beaute Suractivee (for dry and very dry skin)
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:33:00 PM
I have dry, sensitive, acne prone skin, and let's just say that this cream got me through my first winter in Chicago! I was used to mild climates only, and I am glad I decided to buy this cream while in France. I used it every night and the skin on my face hardly got chapped and dry, while my other exposed parts were a disaster area. It was very soothing and the texture is fantastic. I no longer spend winters in Chicago, but if I were to live in such a cold climate again, I would buy this again in a heartbeat (especially in France, where the prices are much better)

Skincare - Body -Mustela - Lait De Toilette-Lotion for Cleansing
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:27:00 PM
I grew up in France and my mom used Mustela products on me, as a child. The smell of this product alone is enough to bring tears to my eyes (sorry this is so cheesy!). My mom swears by this brand, and she still uses it for herself, after being a devotee for my sister and i when we were kids. I still have some of this around- it is a great, very gentle cleanser with an unforgetable fragrance!

Styling Products -Matrix - Freeze Trix
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:23:00 PM
While I love the packaging of this line, I have been disappointed with the products I have tried (hairspray and mousse). My main gripe with this hairspray is the stickiness of it! It left my hair feeling very yucky. Secondly, but very importantly, I found this to have a very unpleasant smell- sorta like something rotten (sorry!). Since this is the last product I use on my hair, the scent factor alone was enough for me to return this to the store. Packaging is very bright and cheery, though.

Styling Products -Matrix - Big Trix
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:21:00 PM
I love the packaging of this line, and the product sounded like it would be good for my thick, medium length curly hair which needs hold and volume, but I found that it performed very poorly. It left my hair sticky and matted. 2 lippies because the smell is very good, and the bright colors are very nice.

Gels/Soaps -L'Occitane - 20% Shea Butter Soap
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:17:00 PM
I grew up in France and I have memories of using L'Occitane Honeysuckle bar soap- so these are definitely a trip down memory lane for me! Beyond the nostalgia factor, I find the soaps to be the most moisturizing on the market- not only do they not dry out my skin, but it actually feels moisturized. When I use these, I can skip the lotion, and my skin is not dry or tight. My favorite scent is honeysuckle- and I am mostly partial to it. I buy these in France when I go back- the prices are much better there, and they are more readily available. I definitely recommend this soap for a little luxury in the shower!

Gels/Soaps -Roger & Gallet - Gentle Nature Gardener's Range
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:11:00 PM
I lived in France for 18 years and Roger Gallet soaps definitely make me take a trip down memory lane! I use different soaps from this brand, but I really like the Gardener's range. The scents are fresh, without being obstrusive. I normally use fresher scents during the summer only, but I find that these are great to use year round. They are soft and lather very well. The huge bars last for a very long time too. I will definitely repurchase during one of my trips back to France- the prices are very good there.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:06:00 PM
I used this along with the 2% BHA lotion, and it broke me out terribly. I tried it twice, with three months interval, and I had the same results each time. I am not sure which of the products is responsible for the breakouts, so in the doubt, I stopped using both. I am having much better luck with Clinique.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 10:03:00 PM
I really wanted to like this product, and gave it a chance, but it only made my skin worse. I tried it twice (at 3 months interval), but each time, I broke out. Switched to Clinique, and I am having much better results now. This might sound like a miracle product, but it does not work for everyone!

Shampoo -Paul Mitchell - Instant Moisture Daily Shampoo
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 9:54:00 PM
I was unimpressed by this shampoo. I have thick, medium length curly hair that needs moisture, and this was nothing special. The scent was bad too- I can't imagine it would be hard to give nice scents to hair products (most companies do it), but IMO Paul Mitchell is lacking there. Beyond the scent problem, I had to use huge amounts of product to get this to lather well, and the shampoo did not give any moisture to my hair- instead it left it feeling coarse and matted. I am sticking with my Kenra moisturizing shampoo, which is ten times better than this, IMHO.

Styling Products -Paul Mitchell - Super Sculpt Styling Glaze
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 9:49:00 PM
I cannot rave enough about this product! I have thick, medium length curly hair, and Super Sculpt works wonders on my hair! It leaves it frizz free, bouncy, very soft. My curls are very nicely defined and shiny. My hair looks very natural and "mischevious", if that makes any sense. I also love that it is very versatile, as I can apply the product on dry hair if I need to restyle my hair on days I am not washing, or at the end of the day. The price is also great, at about 11 dollars for a very large 16 ounces bottle. The smell is also great- I think this is the closest to a perfect styling product for me! Huge rave from me!

Conditioner -Paul Mitchell - Super-Charged Moisturizer
CurlsExperiment 10/24/2003 9:43:00 PM
This is OK- not as moisturizing as I need (thick, curly hair), and apparently the most moisturizing of the Paul Mitchell line. While I find that PM products perform alright (except for Super Sculpt, which is great!) and are fairly priced, I can't get over the weird, "barely there but stinking" scents. And that's enough of a reason for me to not repurchase. Showering needs to be a pleasant experience, and for that I need nice smelling products. About 10 dollars for a 6 oz tube.

Skincare - Body -Yves Rocher - Jardins Do Monde Moroccan Rose Shower Gel
CurlsExperiment 9/29/2003 11:41:00 PM
Of course, fragrances are hard to describe, and such personal choices- but IMO this Moroccan rose is great- a not too sweet or cloying rose. Soft and a little spicy. The shower gel has a nice scent that last long, and if you can find the matching roll on deodorant, it can be quite a treat!
