Lipstick -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte: Opera Rose #29
AntiqueGlitter 1/21/2013 6:27:00 PM
Rouge Voluptes are my FAVORITE lipsticks! The formula is absolutely amazing! They're the richest, creamiest lipsticks that have ever glided across my lips. They're also rather moisturizing and last all day long, though they're no substitute for lip balms or lip stains. I can apply it once in the morning and not have to worry about it fading, forming patches, or drying out my lips. The pigmentation is incredible. YSL wasn't joking with the pigments in these! These aren't for the color-shy! I also love how it has an added SPF 15 (nice bonus) and nice sheen that gives the perfect pout. (: One of the shades that I own is #29 Opera Rose. #29 is a medium neutral fuchsia pink that's not too bright. This particular shade leaves somewhat of a stain behind, which makes it more long-lasting than the lighter shades. It's a bit darker and less bright than #9 Caress Pink and actually very similar to MAC Chatterbox (Chatterbox is only a TINY bit warmer). I think it's a very wearable shade that looks great on all skin tones and can be worn for both casual and special occasions. Perfect for spring or summer! The packaging, of course, is absolutely beautiful and definitely beats ANY other lipstick in terms of aesthetics (yes, that includes Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, and Tom Ford, IMO)--they make my MAC lipsticks look like crap lol! The packaging is what drew me to purchase this in the first place! It retails at $34 each, which isn't cheap, so I recommend you do research and swatch them in-stores before deciding on anything. Sephora only carries 80% of the 30 available shades, so I'd go to Nordstrom instead. Would I repurchase? Probably not.

Lipstick -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte #9 Caress Pink
AntiqueGlitter 1/21/2013 6:21:00 PM
Rouge Voluptes are my favorite lipsticks, ever! The formula is absolutely to DIE for--they're the richest, creamiest lipsticks that have ever glided across my lips. They're also rather moisturizing and last all day long. I can apply it once in the morning and not have to worry about it fading, forming patches, or drying out my lips. The pigmentation is incredible. YSL wasn't joking with the pigments in these! These aren't for the color-shy! I also love how it has an added SPF 15 (nice bonus). One of the shades that I own is #9 Caress Pink. #9 is a warm light/medium pink that's not too bright. This particular shade has a satin finish, so it's not as glossy as some of the other shades I've tried. It can definitely be worn during the day (to school, work, weekend, whatever) but it can be worn for a night out as well. I can imagine it'd look great on a various of skintones. This is one of the more versatile pinks out there! Perfect for a spring or spring-to-summer transition lippie! For those of you who are wondering how this compares to #9 Caress Pink, #9 is a bit lighter and a bit brighter. The packaging, of course, is absolutely beautiful and definitely beats ANY other lipstick in terms of aesthetics (yes, that includes Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, and Tom Ford, IMO)--they make my MAC lipsticks look like crap lol! Lipstick -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte Lipstick in #003 Ultimate Beige

If I don't want the glossiness then I can just lightly blot. Otherwise, you don't need a lipgloss, unless you want that super-reflective mirror-shine look. One of the shades that I own is #3 Ultimate Beige. #3 is a full-on warm beige. I'd consider it a nude, but it's a bit darker than the average nude, so I definitely recommend this for those of you with medium, tanned, or dark skin, if you're looking for something that doesn't wash you out or look like concealer lips. I'm NC35, and this remains on eo fmy favorite nudes, right next to MAC Blankety (Blankety is a bit lighter). The packaging, of course, is absolutely beautiful and definitely beats ANY other lipstick in terms of aesthetics (yes, that includes Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, and Tom Ford, IMO)--they make my MAC lipsticks look like crap lol! Lipstick -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte Lipstick - #1 Nude Beige

They also have an added SPF 15 and a nice satin-to-glossy finish, eliminating the need for a lipgloss, but of course if you don't want the glossiness, then you can just lightly blot it and you'll have a nice subtle sheen. One of the shades that I own is #1 Nude Beige. #1 is a nude with the perfect hint of pink that makes it one of the more wearable, flattering nudes. It looks fantastic on other people, but unfortunately, it's a bit too light for me (I'm NC35), so it sort of washes me out, but it's nothing a little blotting can't fix. So MAC Blankety still remains my favorite nude lippie (Blankety is a bit darker). The packaging, of course, is absolutely beautiful and definitely beats ANY other lipstick in terms of aesthetics (yes, that includes Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, and Tom Ford, IMO)--they make my MAC lipsticks look like crap lol! Lipstick -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick SPF 15
AntiqueGlitter 1/21/2013 5:13:00 PM
Rouge Voluptes are my favorite lipsticks...EVER. The reason? Simple: the formula. These lipsticks are undeniably the richest, creamiest lipsticks that have ever touched my lips--and I've tried a ton. A swipe of this lipstick just feels so luxurious and heavenly when it glides across my lips, delivering rich, fully opaque color and a lovely satin-to-glossy finish. It was love at first swipe! YSL wasn't kidding with the pigments in these--there's almost too much pigmentation! Definitely not for the natural or color-shy. The added SPF 15 is a nice bonus, and I really like how none of the shades have shimmer in them. I hate shimmery lips! These are mildly scented with a subtly sweet fruity fragrance. It eventually wears away after a while, but it's not very noticeable to me anyway. I'm not sure why some people here are saying that they don't last long, because they do--on me, at least. I can apply it once in the morning and not have to worry about it fading, forming patches, or drying out my lips all day. They're fairly moisturizing, but it might not wear very well on those with chapped lips. You can wear it on top of lip balm, but from my personal experience this lipstick just wipes off the lip balm during application. I recommend you exfoliate your lips then heavily apply lip balm/Vaseline at night instead, then in the morning your lips will be nicely moisturized and lipstick-ready. One of the more notable aspects of this lipstick is its packaging. The tube is absolutely jaw-droppingly beautiful. I can't help but stare at it before I apply it! It's undoubtedly the best lipstick in terms of aesthetics (yes, it even beats Chanel, Dior, Guerlain, and Tom Ford, IMO)--it makes all my MAC lipsticks look like they came from the dollar store! In fact, its packaging was the reason why I initially purchased it. I have 5 out of the 30 available shades: 1 Nude Beige, 3 Beige Ultimate, 9 Caress Pink, 13 Peach Passion, and 29 Opera Rose. #13 was my first purchase, then after my inability to avoid my undeniable obssession for these after a 5-month abstinence of purchasing any more, I finally broke down and bought the other 4 shades in a YSL haul (yes, I ignored the huge dent in my wallet post-haul). For reference, I'm NC35 and #1 and #13 sort of wash me out, but I can blot it and it's fine. I would totally own all of them by now if it weren't for the steep price! At $34 each, it's not cheap. I recommend you do research and try on the shades in-stores before deciding on anything. Just FYI, though, Sephora only has about 80% of the shades. Go to Nordstrom for a better shade selection, or buy it from the YSL website. I bought some of mine from Sephora (for Beauty Insider points, lol) then the ones that weren't available there from Nordstrom. Would I repurchase? Yes!

Eye Shadow -Christian Dior - 5 Couleurs - Gris-Gris 034
AntiqueGlitter 1/18/2013 9:36:00 PM
This quint is absolutely fantastic for smokey eyes! I'm pretty impressed with it. It comes with mainly cool-toned silvers. On the upper left, there is a pale blue, almost-white shade with a frost finish, a medium shimmery cool-toned gray on the upper right, a frosted pure white on the lower right, a frosted silver on the lower left, and a black with silver glitter in the center. Not a very unique selection of shades, but very nicely coordinated regardless. I like to use the lower left shade on the inner half of upper lid with the center shade on the outer lid, in the crease, and on the lower lash line; then I highlight the tear duct, inner third of the lower lash line, and inner third of the upper lid with the lower right shade for a dramatic, eye-popping effect. I finish with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in White or MAC Eye Kohl in Fascinating (white pencil liner) on the waterline to make my eyes look bigger, UD Bootycall on the browbone as a highlight, black pencil liner on the upper lash line, and dramatic mascara on the upper and lower lashes. ^^Fantastic glamorous look for a super special nighttime occasion! For the most part, all the shades are nicely pigmented and have a nice buttery smooth formulation that's easy to blend and apply, like MAC e/s, except a bit more buttery (not quite as buttery as UD e/s though). The packaging isn't special. It's your typical luxury-brand e/s palette: a shiny black compact with a mirror inside. It looks nice, but regardless, I hate how it's so susceptible to fingerprints! So I gave this a solid 4 rating. I'd give it a 5, but the price kind of irked me. It costs $60! I know it's Dior, but that kind of price is more for foundations, don't you think? Would I repurchase? No.

Liquid -NARS - Sheer Glow Foundation
AntiqueGlitter 1/16/2013 8:35:00 PM
When somebody is looking for a suggestion for a foundation with light-to-medium or medium coverage, I suggest them this foundation. I'm personally not too keen on NARS face products, other than their wonderful blushes, but this is an exception. Sheer Glow is actually a wonderful foundation. It offers light-to-medium coverage, however it's very easy to build it up to a medium coverage. This surprised me, since I was expecting sheer coverage, due to its name, but it's definitely a pleasant surprise. I like to apply this with my MAC 190 brush, which offers all-around even coverage, although I can imagine it applying well with a duo fiber brush, the Beauty Blender, or even your fingers too. On your face, it actually settles into a satin finish (not dewy, like its name implies, and certainly not matte, like other reviewers here have said), but gradually, during the day, while it wears on your skin and your skin's natural oils begin to seep through, it turns into a nice natural dewy finish that doesn't look oily at all. For reference, my skin type is normal, for the most part, but in heat (i.e. during spring and summer, and dance practice) it turns a bit oily. I recommend this foundation for those with normal, combination, or somewhat dry skin. Naturally, those with oily skin should avoid foundations with the word "glow" in its name, lol (just simple logic), so just thought I would throw that out there. :b I'm NC35 with slight yellow undertones, and Stromboli is a pretty good match, however, it's too yellow! (I have the same problem with MAC NC shades.) Stromboli has strong yellow/olive undertones! Barcelona, on the other hand, had a better undertone match, but it was too dark. I think I'll pick this up in Barcelona during the summer when I become more NC40-ish. Punjab was too light (probably better for NC25-30), but, like Barcelona, it also had a better undertone match. I do think that $42 is a bit too much (more like $35, to me), but I guess that's what you expect from NARS, right? (I still can't help but think that NARS could've at least added a pump. A little piece of plastic really isn't that expensive to make, you know!) Would I repurchase? Yes.

Foundations -Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Foundation
AntiqueGlitter 1/15/2013 9:04:00 PM
This foundation is fantastic! It delivers medium-to-full coverage, which is enough to cover redness, most acne, and some marks. I have applied it with MAC 190, MAC 187, Sigma F80, and fingers, and the coverage remains the same for all methods. It has a flawless natural satin finish that looks nice in person, but fantastic in photos. For that reason, this is my go-to foundation for special occasions/photos. I wouldn't imagine using any other foundation! It looks absolutely flawless and natural on camera--no white cast, no emphasized pores, no greasy look, no flat/one-dimentional look! Just perfection! (Update: When finished with MAC Fix+ it looks so natural that it's utterly UNDETECTABLE!!!!! NO JOKE!!!!!) One of the best aspects of this foundation is the vast shade selection. There are 26 shades available. I'm NC35 (slight golden undertones). After testing numerous shades at my house and in natural lighting, I have discovered: My perfect summer match: Mixture of 1 part 127 and 2 parts 153 My perfect winter match: Mixture of 2 parts 127 and 1 part 153 123: Too light, too olive (NC30 with olive undertones) 127: Perfect but too light (NC30 with yellow undertones) 140: Very similar to 127 but a tiny bit peachier (NC30 with slight warm peach undertones) 153: Too dark and too olive (NC40 with slight olive undertones) My only complaint about this foundation is the wear time. With the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer on my normal skin (I get a tiny bit oily), it lasts only 4-5 hours before it gets shiny, so you should definitely set it with some type of powder. Any powder works, really, but I think it looks and works best with the MUFE HD Microfinish Powder or NARS Light Reflecting Powder. It's also not very compatible with oily skin, despite it being oil-free. If you have oily skin, you'll find that it's only going to make you look oilier within a few hours, so unless you're going to wear a mattifying primer and a long-wearing powder with it, I don't recommend it for oily skin. Because of this, some may question its worth at $42 for a 1.01 oz. bottle, but I personally think it's well worth it. Would I repurchase? Yes.

Loose Powders -Make Up For Ever - microfinishing powder
AntiqueGlitter 1/15/2013 7:59:00 PM
I give this powder props for being a good translucent loose powder (hence the solid 3 rating), as it does the job, but I don't particularly find it amazing. I applied it with my MAC 150 brush, which is a large fluffy powder brush. I poured a little bit into the cap, swirled the brush into it, tap tap tapped off the excess, and applied it in a circular motion, the way I apply all powders. It didn't blur imperfections, it didn't make me glow, and it didn't give me any special finish. It did mattify just the slightest bit, but then the initial shine of my foundation came back 20 seconds later. Later on in the day (I'm talking 4 hours into wear--in cold weather), my face got oily. Gross. I don't even have oily skin! I blame the oiliness on the face makeup, though, not this powder. Of course, MUFE doesn't market this powder to be mattifying. For that reason, I don't recommend this powder for those with oily skin. I don't understand how others here are saying that it controls oil! It does make my face makeup last all day long (minus the oiliness), however, but honestly, any powder can do that! The only thing that would make this powder worth purchasing, in my opinion, would be the fact that it photographs wonderfully. My pores aren't emphasized! Hence, the only time I wear this powder is for special occasions, when I use this on top of my MAC MSFN on top of my MUFE HD Foundation on top of my Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (my go-to face routine for special occasions/photos). I would omit the MSFN if it weren't for the fact that this powder doesn't control oil. Some people have mentioned this looking white on their face, but that's only because they applied too much. As with all translucent powders, only the tiniest amount of powder is necessary. Resist the urge to use more, as it's for sure going to leave a white cast--in person AND on camera! It retails for $32 for a 0.35 oz. jar. Sephora also sells a mini $16 version of this for 0.17 oz. amount of product. Would I repurchase? No.

Primer/ Corrector -Yves Saint Laurent - Touche Eclat (Radiant Touch)
AntiqueGlitter 1/15/2013 7:38:00 PM
Touche Eclat is marketed as a highlighting concealer, although there are a good number of people who argue that this is a highlighter, not a concealer. Well, I disagree with those people. There I was, at Sephora, buying my Touche Eclat, thinking that I was buying some magical highlighter that would somehow make my dark circles vanish all the while brightening my eyes. This may be the case with other people, but that's not the case for me. Touche Eclat turned out to be a natural-looking under-eye concealer more than anything else. I noticed no highlighting or brightening whatsoever--there aren't even any shimmer or light-reflecting particles in the product, as far as my bedroom's lighting allows me to see. But that doesn't mean that it's bad. In fact, I find that it really is far superior to other under eye concealers out there. It covers my dark circles and, most importantly, looks natural and doesn't cake up or settle into fine lines. Also, it lasts all day long without any need for setting powder. I should mention, however, that my dark circles aren't necessarily prominent or dark, so I'm not sure if this would cover very dark dark circles. Regarding the actual packaging, it's absolutely gorgeous! I own a number of YSL makeup products, and YSL seriously beats any other makeup company (Dior, Chanel, Tom Ford, and Guerlain included!) as far as aesthetically beautiful packaging goes--they make all my MAC makeup look like they're from the dollar store! The pen in YSL's signature gold color looks simple, but luxurious and chic, and I like the brush tip as well, although I do need to blend it out with my ring finger after applying it. I do have one problem with it that somewhat irks me, though: the clicks. One click dispenses no product; two clicks dispense too much product. It's not a big deal, though, as I just use however much product I need and leave the rest on the brush (no, the product doesn't dry/get crusty on the pen--I just put the cap on and the next morning the product is still on the brush as if it just freshly came out). 3.5 Luminous Vanilla is a good shade match for my skin tone. (I'm NC35 and MUFE HD 128; I have slight yellow undertones). Don't be fooled if it applies too light--when it dries, it dries down to its true color. I initially thought I was 5 Luminous Honey, but then it dried down to a shade that was too dark and orange. Retailing at $40 for only 0.1 oz. of product, it's definitely not cheap, but honestly, guys, you really can't complain about the price--it's YSL, for crying out loud! I do think that it's worth the splurge, and I highly recommend it to anybody looking for a good dark circle concealer, as I consider this to be by far the best one on the market. Would I repurchase? Yes.

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Mat Velvet PLUS Matifying Foundation
AntiqueGlitter 1/14/2013 6:56:00 PM
Although this is a mattifying foundation that targets oily skin, I don't find that this foundation is very oil-controlling. I have normal skin that tends to get a tiny bit oily at the end of the day with primer and non-matte foundation on. But since this is matte, I expected my face to be matte for most of the day. Well, I had to lightly blot with MSFN twice (70-ish degrees), but it's not a big deal. For the most part, it lasted 6 hours, with primer. I read a number of other reviews here on this product, and I have a few things to say: 1. Those with oily skin should use a primer and powder to prolong this foundation and stay matte all day. 2. If you have dry skin, stay away! It pisses me off that people are actually blaming the FOUNDATION for accentuating their dry skin! I hate to be rude, but jeez--what are you? 10? Almost all face makeup, regardless of finish, will accentuate dry skin! Matte foundations will only accentuate it even more! Exfoliate, moisturize, avoid matte finishes, and stop lowering ratings by wrongfully blaming the foundation for your own faults! That said, I find that this foundation is best for normal, combo, and semi-oily skin, although if you have oily skin you can probably get away with it if you wear primer and powder, like I stated previously. Those with very oily skin should stay away; those with dry skin should definitely stay away. Regarding the coverage, this foundation offers medium-to-full coverage, although you can definitely build it up to somewhat of a full coverage. It's not heavy enough to cover dark circles or very dark spots, but it will cover redness, dark marks, and acne, all the while evening out your skin tone. At least, that's the coverage that I get with my fingers and my MAC 190 brush. If you want lighter coverage, apply it with a damp sponge (i.e. Beauty Blender). You have to work fast because it dries quickly. Once it dries, though, you have a flawless matte finish that looks great in person and in photography. I've heard of some people using this as their go-to foundation for photos, but I prefer MUFE HD for that purpose--that's just me, though. #35 Vanilla is a pretty good shade match (I'm NC35, NARS SG Stromboli, and MUFE HD 128 but a mix of 1 part 127 and 2 parts 153 is a better match). I've also tried #30 Porcelain, #40 Natural Beige, #45 Soft Beige, and #50 Sand. #30 would be NC25-30 if it weren't for its beige undertones, #40 is NC25-30, #45 would be NW37 or NW35-40 if it weren't for its beige-pink undertones, and #50 is NW30-35. I've also swatched #55 Neutral Beige and it seems like NC40-45, except it appears to have somewhat warm peachy undertones. At $36 for a 1.01 oz. tube, I think the price is fair. Usually foundations run for around at least $40, so you get a sizable amount for a decent price. Not bad at all. Would I repurchase? No. I have better foundations.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Pressed Pigment in Warming Heart
AntiqueGlitter 1/11/2013 10:35:00 PM
Pressed Pigments are permanent. They were recently released for the MAC Spring 2013 collection. Warming Heart is a glittery pink-toned champagne (darker than Light Touch). It looks fantastic as an all-over lid shade! Looks similar to UD Sin. All the shades are gorgeous and very pigmented. However, if you aren't a fan of glitter, then these aren't for you, because they have loads of glitter! I love using these when I want a super fun, deliciously sparkly look--they're my go-to for a night out or special occasion. There is glitter fall-out, but to minimize fall-out you MUST use some kind of base or primer--UDPP works alright, but I recommend you use something that's more tacky, like the MAC Water-Based Mixing Medium or maybe even Paint Pots. I also recommend you use a short, dense brush to apply it (like the MAC 215), but honestly I find that using my fingers is best. You get much less fall-out that way, since your fingers pick up more of the actual pigment than the glitter. It costs $21 for 0.1 oz (3 g). Would I repurchase? Yes.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Pressed Pigment in Light Touch
AntiqueGlitter 1/11/2013 10:33:00 PM
Pressed Pigments are permanent. They were recently released for the MAC Spring 2013 collection. Light Touch is a glittery mid-toned champgne that vaguely reminds me of Stila Kitten and MAC Naked Lunch, but I think it actually might be lighter than the two. I personally can use it as both an all-over lid shade and a highlight on my NC35 skin. All the shades are gorgeous and very pigmented. However, if you aren't a fan of glitter, then these aren't for you, because they have loads of glitter! Eye Shadow -MAC - Pressed Pigment in Deeply Dashing
AntiqueGlitter 1/11/2013 10:29:00 PM
Pressed Pigments are permanent. They were recently released for the MAC Spring 2013 collection. Deeply Dashing is a glittery warm chocolate brown with a frosty pearl finish. Great to use for a bronze-y golden smokey eye! I used it with UD Half Baked and deepened the edges with MAC Carbon--fantastic! All the shades are gorgeous and very pigmented. However, if you aren't a fan of glitter, then these aren't for you, because they have loads of glitter! Pressed Pigments are permanent. They were recently released for the MAC Spring 2013 collection. Jet Couture is a glittery dark gunmetal.
