PROS: Smells good. CONS: Can be a little too drying, even for my teen's' oily skin. ALTERNATES: Neutrogena's Rapid Clear line or Alba Botanica's Natural Acnedote line. We like to use one of the following for any flakes that crop up: Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer.
Moisturizers -Clean & Clear - Oil-Free Oxygenating Ultra-Light Moisturizer
scopingforyou 1/29/2010 2:03:00 AM
PROS: Works great for my teen's oily skin. In a pump. CONS: Not the cheapest, I guess. ALTERNATES: Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. When my combo skin is more oily, I do well with Garnier's Moisture Rescue Gel-Cream.
PROS: There are many who love this. It is very moisturizing, but... CONS: I can't get past the smell. It's so, so perfumey to me. Those who don't like to contaminate the product with their fingers won't like that it's in a jar. ALTERNATES: There are other rich creams out there like Cetaphil cream and Tree Hut body butters/balms and Cantu Shea Butter Body Butter.
Shampoo -Neutrogena - Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Shampoo
scopingforyou 1/29/2010 1:39:00 AM
PROS: Very, very good for my fine hair with extremely dry ends. CONS: May be too heavy for some. ALTERNATES: Weightless Conditioning Shampoo by Motions (found in the African American hair section in my Walmart). Organic Root Stimulator's Olive Oil Shampoo (found in the African-American section at my Walmart) is a bit gentler.
PROS: Could use this as a spot treatment for acne, I suppose. CONS: I think it's too drying, even for my teens' oily skin. ALTERNATES: Acne Dote by Alba Botanica or the Rapid Clear cleanser by Neutrogena. We like to use one of the following for any flakes that crop up: Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer or Clean & Clear Acne Control Moisturizer.
Conditioner -Neutrogena - triple moisture deep recovery hair mask
scopingforyou 1/29/2010 1:32:00 AM
PROS; This is okay for somewhat dry hair. CONS: Not quite enough for my very dry ends. APPLICATION TIPS: For maximum effectiveness, towel dry hair, especially the ends, before applying. ALTERNATES: Weightless Conditioner Detangler by Motions (found in the African American hair section in my Walmart). For heavy duty moisture, try L'Oreal's Nature's Therapy "Mega Moisture" or "Mega Strength." (The last two can be found at Sally's Beauty Supply.) ****The shampoo version of this, Cream Lather, though, is wonderful for my dry hair.*****
PROS: Inexpensive. CONS: Very, very drying on the lips. ALTERNATES: HE (high end) alternates are Estee Lauder Double Wear & DS (drugstore) alternate, which is great, is Revlon Colorstay Soft and Smooth lipstick.
PROS: Very healing and moisturizing. A little better smelling than Carmex. CONS: In the tub, not as sanitary. Somewhat hard to find. I can usually only find this at CVS pharmacies. ALTERNATES: When I don't need SPF, I like Neosporin Overnight Renewal because there's no smell. The Neosporin also lasts on me til morning, which this doesn't.
Treatments -Redken - Extreme Anti Snap [REFORMULATED]
scopingforyou 1/29/2010 1:17:00 AM
PROS: Does work. CONS: Got a mini sample and was excited because the sales associate at the register was raving about how this saved her damaged hair. I'm not as impressed as she was. ALTERNATES: Aveeno's leave-in treatment or Nexxus's leave-in spray or even Aussie's leave-in condtioner seem almost as good for less money. For curls, I prefer Pantene's Pro-V detangler for curly hair.
Styling Products -Sexy Hair Concepts - Big Sexy Hair - Volumizing Gel
scopingforyou 1/29/2010 1:14:00 AM
PROS: Does volumize somewhat. CONS: Drying for my dry ends. Makes hair kind of flyaway texture. ALTERNATES: Much prefer TiGi Cat walk Root boost for roots.
PROS: If you REALLY need volume, this does give, it in a way. CONS: This is goopy and leaves my hair feeling pretty dirty and sticky/oily. (It wasn't too much product that caused the problem.) APPLICATION TIPS: ***If you do use this, try very little at first.*** ALTERNATES: I MUCH prefer TiGi Small Talk for volume!
PROS: I have fine, thin hair and it makes me look like I have great hair. It's the first product that makes me look like I have a lot more hair, without weighing it down. Wonderful grape/blueberry smell. Lasts a long time because a little goes a long way. CONS: If putting on curls to air dry, may weigh down loose or weak curls.
PROS: Good for moisturizing. There are a lot who really like this. CONS: Don't think it really helps with any anti-aging. .Leaves me slightly red (I'm quite sensitive). ALTERNATES: Trader Joe's Enrich is cheaper than this and very similar. I personally love Replenix Antioxidant Moisturizer SPF 50 (in silver tube) for great moisture and spf protection that doesn't bother my sensitive skin.
PROS: Very moisturizing for my dry ends/fine hair. Smells great. CONS: A little heavy for fine hair if you're going to use more than 2x a week. APPLICATION TIPS: For even more moisturization, towel dry hair before applying. ALTERNATES: Weightless Conditioner Detangler by Motions (found in the African American hair section in my Walmart). For even more moisturizing than this: Try either Nature's Therapy "Mega Moisture" or "Mega Strength" Hair Treatment by L'Oreal. (These last two are found at Sally's Beauty Supply.)
PROS: Very feminine, floral, romantic. CONS: But surprisingly a little harsh for having these elements if you are expecting something very soft. Not cheap.
