Skincare - Body -Flexitol - Hand Balm
felgoj 1/18/2010 12:01:00 PM
This works very well but the stink is so off-putting that I won't buy it again. For that reason, I use this balm only at work which is in a medical environment, as the medicinal smell is fitting with the location. It helps w/dry hands after frequent washing. But the Flexitol Heel Balm is actually better than the hand balm - it's more potent (urea is 2nd ingredient instead of 3rd) and the odor is less intense. I do like that the 2oz tube is totable in a purse, but I wouldn't want to take this around with me anywhere (unfortunately)! The odor prevents me from loving this very effective dry skin treatment (hence one lippie off). It's great for cold-weather dilemmas. A tiny amount (1/4 pea-size) is all I need to quench chapped hands, and the effect lasts for hours. I think I'm going to start using the hand balm on my feet and the heel balm on my hands! The heel balm tube is twice the size however, not very convenient for carrying in a purse. I will not buy this again but I will buy the Heel Balm again when I run out.

Makeup Brushes -Sephora - Professionnel Platinum Air Brush #55
felgoj 1/18/2010 11:49:00 AM
I bought this brush based on all the glowing reviews. I don't use liquid foundation anymore, only pressed powder (or rarely loose powder). So I bought this brush to be used with my powder. I have a small collection of powder brushes that I use, some high end, some low end but still soft & effective. Typically I've been using Matesse flat-top bronzing brush to apply my pressed powder & it does so in a heavy layer so that it gives me a made-up makeup look. Using this brush with the same powder, no matter how much I apply & blend, the look is always natural & makeup-less. But it still leaves me with the effect of looking enhanced, like naturally radiant skin. It's a synthetic-fiber brush, dome-shaped, that's superbly soft & gentle on skin & very forgiving. But it doesn't pile on the powder if you're looking for heavier coverage. For liquid makeup users, I'm no real help to you, except that this brush will make you look very natural & soft. At $37 it was expensive, but to me it was worth buying. Sephora offers quality innovative products.

Fragrances -Cacharel - Anais Anais

One of my all-time, long-time favorites! Fresh, bright, clean, & full of white florals, just like springtime. I've loved this refreshingly feminine & youthful scent (it's not "old lady" to me) for all of the 21 yrs it's been my favorite since I first smelled it as a teen (hello 1986). It's an unmistakeable signature scent. Occasionally I'll smell it on someone else & always recognize it. More than 1 spritz (or even 1/2) will have lot of sillage but not in an offensive way since it's a beautiful scent - not cloying or choking like something suffocating such as Dior's Poison. Bottle is very old-time (white porcelain-like glass) & the scent is timeless.

Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - Wild Shine - Kaleidoscope
felgoj 1/10/2010 10:29:00 PM
Great holographic rainbow-colored glitter nailpolish (clear polish base). The glitter effect of this polish makes it very aptly named. I love adding this polish on top of other colored polish to give my manicure more oomph or a new funky, playful look. The colorful sparkliness is bold & shows up easily in 1 or 2 coats. More coats give it more glittery punch! Only 99 cents @ local drugstore. Can't go wrong. Packaging is great too & easy to work with (long rectangular bottle, decently long-handled cap). Definitely an item to have in my manicure collection. BTW has anyone tried making their own glitter nailpolish by buying a vial of loose makeup glitter & adding it to a bottle of clear polish or a bottle of glitter polish to kick up the glitter intensity? It's something I'm planning to try......

Gels/Soaps -Dr. Bronner's - Peppermint Castille Soap
felgoj 1/8/2010 11:37:00 PM
Great product - love this stuff! It's all the good things everybody else said about it, so I really have nothing better to add. I get a rich lather using a natural-bristle body brush in the shower & I love the cooling sensation. I would love the cool sensation to last longer afterward (like natural air conditioning when it's hot, lol), but seeing as it's winter right now & I don't like anything too cold in winter, that's not such a bad thing. Leaves me feeling refreshed after a shower. Previous bar soaps I've used in the past (& I've tried many) always left me unpleasantly sticky, filmy & feeling tight & dry. This liquid soap refreshes & rinses clean. The price is great & its chemical-free organic status even better. I started w/a small bottle from Vitamin Shoppe to see how I'd like it. Will get the giant bottle when I run out! UPDT 2/7/12 - Still my HG body cleanser! I don't use anything else for body wash.

Conditioner -Pureology - Nanoworks Conditioner
felgoj 1/2/2010 2:39:00 PM
It was worth trying so I could see for myself, but I hate hate hate this conditioner. It's super-expensive ($50) and I hate the strong lingering perfume scent (most reviewers like it but I don't) and really didn't improve my chemical-processed hair (blonde foil highlights). I did like it for a short while when I bought it in 2008 because it was better than anything else I could find, but the results didn't last & I have since found much better & far less expensive products to replace it with.

Shampoo -Pureology - Nanoworks Shampoo
felgoj 1/2/2010 2:34:00 PM
I agree, it's not worth the price. I bought this shampoo & matching conditioner in 2008 and initially loved the results. After a few months it didn't seem to do anything for me anymore, even after I switch it up with other brands. I always hated the perfumey scent but put up with it. Now I've found better products that cost way less, and yes some of those products are from John Frieda (though unfortunately they are discontinued). It was worth trying this high-end product, but no, it's not worth spending $100 for the set again. The packaging is difficult to use & I'm finding it a challenge to finish this up so I can get rid of the bottles already. For now I just put them on the side in my bathroom cabinet. They are close to empty but not close enough.

Hair Color -Clairol - Herbal Essences COLORFLIRT mousse [DISCONTINUED]
felgoj 1/2/2010 12:16:00 AM
Me too, I found this product too late. It was in 2007 when I discovered it. I wanted to transition from blonde highlights to dark hair again, something plummy, so I got Plum Pucker. It was a purplish-black. I loved how it made my chin-length bob look, every edgy & chic. My favorite part about this color (besides the excellent color results & that it gradually washes out) was the low price ($6) & ease of application (mousse foam dollops fingered through damp clean hair, then rinse out). The worst part was my towels staining with tint after every shampoo as the color gradually washed out, but the haircolor stains always washed out of them in the laundry. An aesthetic remedy for that would be to just use a dark towel when dealing with wash-out hair dye. But anyway, only a few months after finding this fun color, it disappeared from store shelves. Oh well. Another good one bites the dust. I just don't understand why they keep doing this (discontinuing GOOD products). It came in a nice array of reddish & dark hues: blue-black, plum-black, cherry red, burgundy, bright auburn, even blonde (though I never saw it in the store). Great colors to play with. Although it was a wash-out dye, the black lasted quite a while in my porous hair. The fading was gradual enough to look natural, not embarrassing. Now I am buying whatever I can get on eBay......... I miss this stuff. UPDATE 1/26/10 - Found some leftover cans on eBay & snatched up a few cans in blonde (my hair is highlighted), plum & auburn. How stupid of Clairol to discontinue this fun, versatile & helpful product!

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Borax laundry powder

I don't live without this product in my house. It's excellently effective & natural for all sorts of cleaing, and I NEVER do laundry without it. Boosts the power of whatever detergent I use. Costs pennies to use & I wouldn't be happy living without it. This stuff is the best.

Hair -John Frieda - Beach Blonde Smooth Sailing Conditioner [DISCONTINUED]
felgoj 12/31/2009 9:23:00 PM
It's a shame this product is discontinued. I read all the reviews of people missing this conditioner, I found it for a reasonable deal on eBay (came out to about $9). I used it along with the companion Cool Dip shampoo (also discontinued) & I love how my hair came out afterward. I have heavily highlighted hair that's gotten crispy & fried from all the chemical processing & have been searching around for shampoo & conditioner to help improve its texture (since all my favorites are discontinued). Aveeno Nourish & Revitalize is pretty good. But this John Frieda conditioner & shampoo are even better. After 1 shampoo my hair is SOFT & has volume & bounce. My fragile processed hair feels STRONGER. Yeah....it's a real shame John Frieda discontinued this. I don't understand why they did it.

Hair -John Frieda - Rehydrate Deep Daily Conditioner
felgoj 12/30/2009 11:24:00 PM
Rehydrate was sadly not a good product for me. I was disappointed, because it smells so nice, I liked its good detangling ability, and the Rehydrate name sounded so promising. But I had to stop using this after getting down to half the squeeze bottle because it gave me small hard bumps on the back of my neck & on my forehead. I've tried many products, none of which did this to me, including other John Frieda products in the Sheer Blonde line, and also the Overnight Repair creme. I did well with the Highlight Activating Daily and Lustrous Touch Strengthening products, but this one I had to throw out. I wish it could have worked better.

Styling Products -Schwarzkopf - Thicker Fuller Hair Weightless Volumizing Hair Spray
felgoj 12/29/2009 11:46:00 PM
I love this hairspray. It holds strong but leaves my hair flexible. You can spray on a light net of it or pile it on & it won't weigh down or wet down your hair & ruin your style. A little spritz is all I ever need & all my little flyaway strands stay in place. I love the Cell-U-Plex formula and am happy to see this product is still on the market (only repackaged). The lime-green aerosol can is easy to spot on store shelves. I stocked up on this when it was on deep discount sale, thinking that's because it's being discontinued (which ALWAYS happens to my favorite products), so I won't need to buy more of this for quite a long while, but I will always reach for this spray when I need more. May it never get discontinued! It's excellent for fine hair & holding soft but secure volume in a hairstyle. Great stuff.

Deodorants -Dove - Ultimate Clear Cool Essentials Anti-perspirant Deodorant
felgoj 12/29/2009 11:29:00 PM
I love this antiperspirant stick. I buy it over & over again. Costs only $5. I was using Secret Clinical Strengh swivel-up cream, but at some point it wasn't doing the necessary trick this past summer, and I found that Dove Cool Essentials has an amazingly light & refreshing fragrance that took care of what Secret couldn't. This stick keeps me dry and fresh smelling. It's easy to apply, easy to swivel up, & a container lasts months longer through daily use than Secret (which BTW also costs twice as much). I never get tired of the delightful scent. The white product doesn't rub off on clothes as much as other antiperspirants I've tried, but I still have to exercise care when dressing, especially with dark fabrics. If it does smear, all it takes is a velvet lint brush or dry sponge to wipe off the residue from fabric. Hope this product never gets discontinued.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Xtreme Wear - Celeb City
felgoj 12/29/2009 11:12:00 PM
Love, love, love this nailpolish shade! Best glimmery, icy, shimmery, metallic silver frost I've ever tried. Thick color makes it easily opaque in 2 coats (slightly sheer in 1 coat). Of all the metallic liquid silver nailpolishes I've tried, this one's the easiest & cleanest to apply. I don't always do it, but I like to add extra layers of sparkly silver glitter polish on top of it to give my nails a saucy disco ball effect that everyone compliments me on. Yes, that means a lot of layers of polish but they dry fast. This polish is easy to remove with acetone & doesn't stain my nails. Yay! I love Sally Hansen stuff - it's often high quality without being unreasonably high-priced. The brush in the bottle is flat, which makes application easier & cleaner. The color you see on the bottle is the color you'll get on your nails. Doesn't dry too shiny, so a brilliant top coat really makes the silver pop.
