Pressed Powders -Revlon - PhotoReady Powder
rated 5 of 5
felgoj 1/27/2010 11:59:00 AM

How come there isn't a listing for Photo Ready pressed powder? OK I'll start one. I left a review for the Translucent color of this powder & described this product there. I also bought Light/Medium as this powder only comes in 2 pigmented colors & the other was too light (Fair/Light). The packaging, yuck. But the product, yum. I apply it with a powder brush (not the crappy one included) & my face looks diffused & glowy at the same time. Matte but illuminated. The pigmented colors do not have any shimmer in them like the colorless Translucent does. I like to try out different powders when they come out if they sound interesting (and looking ready for a photo shoot definitely sounded interesting, as I love to take pictures & be in pictures, lol, so I'd naturally want to look my best as we all know sometimes pictures just don't come out right despite our best efforts) and I would buy this again. It cost $13 when I bought it hot off the shelf, so I hope the price lowers over time.

Powder -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder
rated 1 of 5
felgoj 1/27/2010 11:40:00 AM

Hate it. I've used the pressed powder version before & I liked it (though I did not like the bulky clunky compact). The loose powder version is too messy IMO & applies too heavily & unevenly with the kabuki brush that's included in the packaging, plus it just looks like the wrong color when I have it on. Buff Beige is usually the right color for me but this one looks off, perhaps a little bit orangey. I didn't like this at all.

Pressed Powders -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Mineral Face Powder
rated 4 of 5

I liked this mineral pressed powder. I would buy it again except I haven't done so because the packaging is so bulky & clunky, so I've been trying other new pressed powders in the meantime & enjoying making comparisons. Powder is all I wear now ..my skin is no longer super-greasy & acneic, so I don't have any real reason to spend time heaping foundation on my face. Powder does enough work for me & this one gives pretty moderate coverage. I always apply with a powder brush. I didn't really like paying $13 for a drugstore brand but if it comes down to it, I'd buy this again. Right now I'm using Revlon's new Photo Ready pressed powder for about the same price & I like it much better. It gives skin a diffused glowy appearance, not flat & matte & cakey the way this powder can. They just both have a different finish.

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Braun Cordless Curling Iron
rated 5 of 5
felgoj 1/27/2010 11:19:00 AM

I've purchased a couple of these cordless curling irons over the years. Braun is a great product. The first one I had was black (which I preferred) & now they are sold in white with a matte silver-grey barrel. This iron is powered by replaceable butane energy cell cartridges which are easy to find in beauty supply stores & generally are sold 2-pak for $5-$7. The iron itself usually costs around $23-$25 and lasts for years. The iron comes with a removable hard plastic brush attachment. The clear plastic cover automatically turns the iron off if you pack it up while you accidentally left it on, and it makes carrying this iron around a joy as you don't feel any of the heat & therefore won't damage anything it touches right after you use it. I keep one at work & I always take this along when traveling. I don't use it often anymore but even when I did the butane cartridge would last far longer than I expected. I consider this product a very reasonable expense & definitely convenient. Full heat-up takes exactly 15 or 20 seconds, not even half a minute. Talk about speedy styling on the go! I can even move around as I'm styling since I'm not tied down by any electrical cords, and I don't need to worry about finding an electrical outlet to use it like I would with a traditional curling iron. It's size is compact enough that it's very portable even in a not-so-big purse. This iron is a lifesaver & a godsend, as I can either curl my hair with it or straighten & smooth it - very quickly, very easily, & very enjoyably. A must-have beauty tool.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - White Linen
rated 5 of 5
felgoj 1/27/2010 10:58:00 AM

My all-time favorite perfume since I was 14. This scent is very crisp, light, clean, a little powdery - I can see how it can be likened to linen (though it doesn't smell like linen). I don't know how else to describe it but I love it & am happy it's a classic that's still around. The bottle is clunky but I've grown to appreciate what it represents. I don't like any of the other White Linen versions such as Breeze (gross)...I only adore the original & believe that you shouldn't mess with a classic.

Fragrances -Avon - Haiku Perfume
rated 5 of 5

One of my favorite fragrances for the past few years. This fragrance is light, floral, fresh, clean - like a Spring lily. It's not an overpowering scent but you don't need more than 1 or 2 spritzes to get adequate scent. Doesn't cost much & smells great!

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Abreva Docosanol 10% Cream for Cold Sores
rated 1 of 5
felgoj 1/27/2010 10:05:00 AM

Garbage. Never did anything for me, & I had purchased it several times to give it a real chance. It was just throwing $$ in the garbage. Zovirax/acyclovir ointment (by prescription) takes a little time to work but at least it works. A couple of times it has actually prevented a cold sore from coming out when I caught that dreaded tingle in time. But Abreva does absolutely nothing. No help whatsoever.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Abreva Docosanol 10% Cream for Cold Sores
rated 1 of 5
felgoj 1/27/2010 10:01:00 AM

I bought this several times, giving it a real chance. I was desperate. To me this is garbage for a whopping $16 (& the tube is TINY! almost microscopic). Does nothing to speed up my cold sores at all. I prefer not to get any cold sores at all, of course, but when I do I will stick with trusty prescription Zovirax ointment. With Zovirax (which is greasy & tastes disgusting BTW) my coldsores go away after a week instead of 2-3 weeks on their own. Abreva doesn't work for me. I'll never buy it again.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara in Azure Blue
rated 5 of 5

Plump, full, thick lashes with this mascara, yes - but more than anything, THE most amazing electric blue color for lashes ever! I ALWAYS get tons of compliments on my mascara whenever I wear this incredible blue shade. Expensive, yes, but worth it. Will repurchase (already have).

Lotions/ Creams -LUSH - Fair Trade Foot Lotion

Hate it, it's gross. Came as a Lush giftbox set a friend gave me. I guess she's a Lush fan. I hated this product & every other that was in the set. Yuck.

Blush -NARS - Desire
rated 5 of 5
felgoj 1/26/2010 8:47:00 PM

I don't currently use this blush but the bright pink color is so lovely, I could see how the slightest dusting of this color on cheeks would look fresh, healthy & sweet like pinched young cheeks. If I get around to it, I would buy it. Currently I use a discontinued blush by Almay that's a very bright peony pink just like this one, only slightly less intense. When I run out of it I'll look into Nars Desire. This color gets full marks from me right off the bat. :)

Skincare - Body -Bath and Body Works - White Tea and Ginger (All Products)

This scent is divine. Light, fresh, delicate, invigorating. I love this scent in the winter (because that's when I first started using it) but it's wonderful & light enough for all year round.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - White tea and ginger body lotion
rated 5 of 5

MY FAVORITE! What a refreshingly light, crispy clean scent! Very feminine & youthful & not at all stuffy. I had this in the body cream that was in a big squeeze tube & I used to squirt it into little portable bottles to carry around in my purse everywhere I'd go. Heavenly scent. May they never stop making it!

DELICIOUS! Soft delicate scent, very comforting & soothing. Formula very softening, special thanks to the shea butter. Great lotion. My #2 favorite scent. (My #1 favorite is White Tea & Ginger.)

Styling Products -Redken - Urban Experiment 13 Nylon Clay Yarnifying Paste
rated 5 of 5
felgoj 1/26/2010 6:36:00 PM

Love this paste! I apply it to barely damp hair as my hair is air-drying to scrunch in some funky curly texture to my typically frizz-wavy-straight hair. It gives my style a little bit of a tousled woolen look. It gives interesting texture but not much hold, so I lock in the finished look with some hairspray before I frizz out. It costs a lot--I paid $20 for it but I'd buy it again! In fact, I'm due to buy another bottle. It comes in an airless pump dispenser & all I ever need is 1 or 1.5 squirts for my bob-length hair. It has an opaque snotty-jelly texture to it & no unpleasant odor. I have a feeling this is a novelty product that Redken will eventually discontinue, but I hope that won't be the case. I love this stuff! I'm still using the last remains of my 1st bottle from 2 years ago, so I better get a move on & buy a 2nd bottle before it's too late. I noticed recently that the specialty store where I bought it has only ONE bottle left on the shelf. I want it!
