Scrubs -Merle Norman - Polished Perfection scrub
rated 2 of 5
pattyshine 3/27/2009 12:59:00 AM

This review will be short and sweet. I love Merle Norman products as you can see by my reviews, BUT, I hate this product with a passion. I have given it several tries. It is harsh on my skin, breaks me out and makes me burn. Around my nose, I gather blemishes that will hardly go away! Please Merle, you can do better than this. Please make a gentle one for gals like me. I need it. Of all things, I use Amazing Grace buffing scrub on my face and it is a winner (yes,5) heads down and over heals. I love this, even if it is supposed to be for body. I just tell myself that my face is part of my body (wink). Please, if you have dry, sensitive skin, do not even try it the Merle Norman scrub!

Cleansers -Merle Norman - Luxiva Foaming Cleanser-Normal/Dry
rated 5 of 5

Actually this is for the Luxiva cleanser in the pump bottle with gold trim. This is a wonderful cleanser for dry skin. I put it on gently, then massage just a little and take it off with a wet washcloth. Now, they have a basic cleanser in a white pump bottle that costs less and I like better. This cleanser is not quite as oily, goes on so easy and really takes the makeup off. It leaves your face unbelievably soft without being oily. It also diminshes fine lines right away. After a few uses, you will find the advantage of a much smoother and refined skin. Also, you will not need to use as much moisturizer. They may have samples at the studio to try. Go for it. Oh yes, this does not break me out or give me a rash! (Remember, the basic pump cleanser only says cleanser on the bottle - very generic white pump bottle and was there before the Luxiva one. That is, it is an oldie.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - baby phat fabulosity

It is funny how people see perfume differently. I bought this because I liked the name and the bottle. I had also asked to smell it at the counter - loved it right away! I do not notice any outstanding notes in this perfume, but rather an exciting, and perfect blend of fruits and flowers - even a hint of spice. I even think I detect a hint of mint! I don't think I have smelled a more enjoyable fragrance, BUT after the drydown, which takes just a few minutes on me, the salt loses its savor, so to speak. I have trouble even noticing that I have on perfume. I gave it a five because i t is such a perfect scent and wish it would last longer on me. Maybe they will come out with Fabulosity Intense! I am seeing if I an try to put this on !n a way that will last on me.

Well, I just tried this brand this evening and I like it. I like several foundations and this is right up there with them! I am not sure of my color choice - it was NO. 3, Natural Ivory. I believe Classic Ivory would have been better, but they were out of that shade as they often are. I, too, like the pump. It takes just a little and I smooth it over a bit of moisturizer. I love the feel of this foundation, so smooth and creamy. That is they way it is on your face - smooth, dewy, and hides flaws and even some wrinkles! I set this with a bit of my Airspun powder and I am really impressed. When they have this again for BOGO. I will purchase some more. I am so fickle - but this foundation is best for now. It is just tooo great. I have reviewed many foundations I like, now it is this one that is my favorite. I use natural Ivory - my very best shade! Update: I want to impress again, in my case, that using this makeup very sparingly will eliminate any greasiness you are experiencing. Also, a very light dusting of setting powder will keep this foundation lovely all day:) The powder is the trick for me. I have very dry skin and this is just excellent - this makeup!

Polishes -Revlon - Nail Enamel
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 3/13/2009 10:47:00 PM

I haven't used Revlon nail polishes in a long time. I got this the other day in "Touch of Mauve." It goes on so smoothly and covers with the color so well. It is a cream nail enamel and not sheer. This color looks so elegant and I can wear it with almost anything. I have tried Merle Norman nail polish and like it a lot also. But, I think I like this even better. Estee Lauder nail polish is OK but I don't think that company really has its heart into nail wear. AND it is soooo expensive. Back to this Revlon NP - I like it and have bought a couple of other subtle shades and am looking forwrd to trying them. It wears so well and is so easy to touch up without looking mussed - that means a lot to me.

Liquid -Revlon - SPA Age Defying Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 3/12/2009 11:54:00 PM

Well, Revlon finally did it. They have put on the market a most wonderful foundation. Being a foundation nut, I was very pleasantly surprised how luxurious this foundation is! It reminds me a bit of EL new Nutritious - however, it is better. The Nutritious is lovely goes on wonderfully smooth, but I feel it is for younger gals than me. I love this new Revlon foundation - it goes on so smooth, silky and evenly - a no brainer. I do not like the packaging - it comes somehow out of the brush and I am wasting it this way. Nevertheless, I love love it. I put my coty Airspun over it (just a bit) and off I go confidently.

Liquid -Clinique - Supermoisture Makeup
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 3/5/2009 8:00:00 PM

I am always reviewing foundations. My skin is changing and I am changing foundations for the first time in a long time. I had a cache of the foundations I have used, and now I am afraid I will have to put them aside for a while. My superdry skin has become superdrier. I saw reviews for this foundation on MUA and thought - supermoist? That sounds good. I proceeded to hurriedly get to the mall and was matched for Ivory 04, one of the lightest shades. I put my El Daywear Plus on lightly, used a bit of this foundation and set with my honey beige airspun powder. I put my peach terrazzio Merle Norman blush on with a kubuki brush. Is this really me, I said to myself. Who is this person? I went shopping that afternoon in Beaumont, Texas and I cannot tell you how many people commented on my skin. With my coral lipstick and my peach blush I felt radiant, but did not expect others to say so exactly. I am not bragging - it is the foundation's fault. I have never used anything like it and do not even understand it - why it looks this good. It is very moist looking, so without a bit of dusting powder to set it, it looks too gleamy, but then - Voila! - the miracle happens. I was so happy, I bought another tube that very afternoon! You know how they are ALWAYS discontinuing our favorite things. I am digressing, but EL discontinued their True, Futurist, and Sumptious lipsticks - all of these were great. I had the grace to stock up on some of my favorites. I will keep a watch that they do not do that to this wonderful foundation - might have to sue! (grin) If your dry skin is frustrating you like a dust-bomb - try this!!

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - professional cosmetic wedges
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 3/4/2009 2:24:00 AM

Kroger brand of professional Cosmetic Sponges? Yes! I picked these up at Krogers because I needed them so badly. They are the best I have ever used. They are a bit softer than other wedges and I was able to use them as fresh cosmetics sponges for powder foundations, blushes etc. There are 32 to a pack and they are strung together a bit - you will have to pull apart but it is easy to do. You know as I do that a dirty sponge ruins your makeup - never again - always very clean sponges now. Hey if a tire iron worked on my face, I would write a review! I know this is a strange review, but I just had to tell you! Try them.

Gels/Soaps -Caress - Shower Gel
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 3/1/2009 11:38:00 PM

I love this soap - It is the Caress Moisturizing Body Bar, Evening Silkening. It is with Jasmine and Rich Replenishing moisturizers. fIt is hard to find so I had to order it. I do not know if it is still in stores at all. I have a stash of many bars so I will not run out. It is so silky, clean, moisturizing and smells so very good. I like this so much better than the other Caress Body bars. It also makes your bathroom smell so good, but it is not too strong. I think it smells a bit like Amarige. It is so much better than the other caress bars in my opinion. I alternate this with my Pears and Purpose bars. Love it! Add: Yes, this is for the face, is so mild but very cleansing.

Cleansers -Purpose - Gentle Cleansing Bar
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 3/1/2009 11:20:00 PM

I love this cleansing bar. It is so fresh, and clean. It is very nice for dry or sensitive skin, cleans so well, yet very gently. It is something like the Pears bar that has been around forever, but not quite as strong. It lasts a very long time. Sometimes I use this daily along with the Pears twice a week or so. Love it!

Lip Treatments -Avon - Lip Balms (any flavor)
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 2/28/2009 10:57:00 PM

I love this lip balm. I think this is "grape" in the "naturals." After I took the seal off, the information came off too! However, I am pretty sure this is it. I think these come in peach, strawberry etc., also. This balm is very moisturizing and the taste and smell are wonderful. My lips never got really dry until this winter, so I have tried several. I like this best, and Burt's Bee's replenishing lip balm next. The Avon lip balms are very inexpensive also! Update: I looked through the Avon book and this was under the word "delicious", and the flavor is berry. I needed to correct this.

Concealers -mark - Invisible Touch [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5

I really like this concealer. When I first saw it in the pot, I thought it was a very odd color and would not work on me. I have the lightest shade, and yes, it did work perfectly on me as to color, The color was great! It reminds me of Benefit's Boi- ing concealer. It seems to have the same consistency. I was very careful and used this under my eyes also. I did not like the packaging at all. It is a very dark color, not quite black. Because of this, it is hard to find the latch and open it. Also, it is hard to find in my makeup pile - oh how nice an orange, lime green, firetruck red or hot sun yellow would be. It is very small, but the color would make it stand out! Anyway, over all this is a good product.

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Boi-ing

I have this concealer in the lightest shade and find it is one of the best concealers I own. It seems to have enough coverage to help certain areas of my skin. I do not think it is for use under the eyes unless one is very gentle with it, as it is a stiffer concealer. Actually, this is the only Benefit product I have. I was not familiar with the Benefit line at all and bought this on a whim. I am glad I did. One thing about the Benefit line I do not understand is the very high price for some of their very small products. Young women buy these products and I think that it is unfair to them to have to pay such high prices. Many of these products could be priced much less and still be considered high end. For that reason, even if I am an older lady, I will not try any other product they have.

Powder -Cover Girl - Simply Powder Foundation
rated 5 of 5
pattyshine 1/23/2009 11:06:00 PM

I like both HE and drugstore cosmetics. The bottom line is, does it work, and is it wonderful. WEll, I tried this Simply Powder from CG and was very surprised at the quality. It is quite good, and matches Clinique Almost Powder foundation, and MN Luxiva powder foundation, almost, or, maybe completely! I will certainly buy this again. It covers, well. The shade I am using is Classic Ivory. It stays on and makes the complexion look finished. The only drawback I can really find is that when you purchase this, it is hard to fix the compact. You have to learn how to"unfold" and slip the mirror side in the right side without breaking it - no joke. Anyway, I am not a mechanic so I have to proceed with caution. Edit: I wanted to say that I have dry skin and use a moisturizer underneath, and low and behold, it does not change color. It does not turn orangey! I feel it covers very, very well. It does not make my skin look dry and holds up through the day. For those who love the comfort of a foundation, I feel I have no makeup on at all! UPDATE: I have been trying all kinds of foundations lately - have been on a foundation kick. As I have said before, this is an expensive hobby. Believe it or not, this is my fav now out of all I have reviewed, and I like the others I reviewed. The Simply Powder is cheap, too. How did I win out this way - who knows! It is wonderful to find my best foundation for such a low price! I use the Classic Ivory. (The compacts look a little darker in the pan, but run true to form.)
