Liquid -Maybelline - Pure Makeup [DISCONTINUED]

This is the first foundation i've ever really tried. I chose this because i wanted to find one that's light-weight and more on the sheer side, and i think this definately fits that. I like the fact that they made this with 50% water, and included gentle skin ingredients especially for people who may be prone to breakouts or have sensitive skin :). This is definately pretty sheer, very much like a tinted moisturizer - so it's good for those days when you feel like having a little bit of coverage. I can definately understand that this would not be good for times when more coverage is needed, but for a light veil of coverage, or when you might be feeling a bit lazy about makeup :P, this is good. Although it is sheer to begin with, i usually mix a little bit of lotion with this anyway when i apply it. I haven't felt any kind of irritation from using it so far. I love the little tube that it comes in - but it's a little more expensive where i am, so i wish the quantity matched the price :(. However, since i don't use this often, i think it can last for a while. I was lucky to be able to find a pretty good color match for my skin; i bought this in Nude Light 4 (i have light olive skin). It would be great if they would make more shades tho! Overall, i think it's a nice product to have handy for people who want something light and comfortable. I still have a lot to learn about foundation, but i think i'm off to a good start with this one :-). Edit** I have stopped using this a pretty long time ago due to the fact that the foundation itself seems to have gotten darker :(. I'm not sure if i would repurchase this one.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Wear Infinite - Morning Light 805
rated 3 of 5
mg84 12/13/2007 12:45:00 AM

This is a nice cream / ivory colored eye shadow, and it has a fairly shimmery and pearly finish to it. I find it easy to apply, and it goes on smoothly. Although i can't really wear this as an all-over color on my lids (it's too light for my skin), i definately think it's useful for high-lighting the inner corners of your eyes, and making them pop. I've also applied a tiny bit of this beneath my eyes (and over my concealer) just to add some light-relfecting shimmer which draws away from any darkness in that area. If anyone wants to see a pic, i have one in my profile - it's there beside my L'Oreal e/s quad! :-)

Shampoo -Head and Shoulders - with HyrdaZinc Ocean Lift
rated 4 of 5
mg84 11/6/2007 6:21:00 PM

When i was younger, my whole family used Head & Shoulders shampoos, including me. It worked well for so long, and then, once I reached my teen years, I started to feel as though it was just a very harsh shampoo, and my hair started to get a little harder to deal with. I had completely sworn off anything by Head & Shoulders. But lately, it's been really hard to find a good simple shampoo that wouldn't dry my hair out, but that would still leave it clean. This shampoo was laying around the house, so i decided to use it until i could find something else. But, so far, i'm really liking it! I'm realizing that the company has really improved their shampoos, and has a lot more variety now. I haven't tried anything else from H&S yet, but this Ocean Lift one is working for me right now. It cleans my hair without making it feel dry or weighing it down. I wish that the shampoo was a clear or white color, because i dont really like un-necessary color added to products, but it's no big deal :P

Conditioner -Garnier - Sleek and Shine Fortifying Deep Conditioner
rated 4 of 5
mg84 11/5/2007 11:17:00 PM

It can be tough to find a decent conditioner !. For quite some time, my hair was starting to look more and more damaged due to the fact that I had stopped conditioning it in general, and i was using this terrible shampoo that was actually drying my hair out even more! After searching many reviews here, i finally decided to go with this Fructis one. I've used it about three or four times so far, and I think i like it! It has a nice creamy consistency, and the scent is fresh and fruity. After using this the few times that I have, my wavy, frizz-prone hair is already looking much healthier and softer than it has been in a long time. I think I will repurchase this one :). Edit** I just want to add - after using this for a few weeks, i'm liking this conditioner even more. My hair is so much softer, and healthy looking now.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum Express Mascara
rated 3 of 5
mg84 11/4/2007 12:54:00 AM

My old review for this mascara was a big mess because i kept having to update, as this mascara has kind of surprised me in the end!. When i first got this, I really didn't think much of it. It didn't seem volume-building at all, and i found the brush a little dificult to use. The formula was something that i liked, since it's soft and easy to work with. But for a while, i had simply kept this in my mu bag and considered it a waste of money. One day i pulled this out of my bag, and decided to give it a another try, and somehow, it wasn't so bad at all! I don't really know how, but i have become more comfortable with this mascara now. I'm not sure that i would call this a volume mascara, because, in my opinion is creates more of a natural-but-defined sort of look. I find the brush a little long, and the bristles have taken a little getting used to for me. The times that i've worn it, i did not notice any smudging or flaking. It removes fairly easily, and it hasn't caused any irritation to my eyes. I'm going to give this 3 lippies, because it's really not as bad as i first thought. I think it's a good everyday mascara! (I have it in Brownish Black). My final word on this: Don't judge this one right away, give it a few weeks to a month, it may surprise you! Edit** This mascara actually is pretty volumizing when you layer it on, but it can be natural looking as well - i feel that it's very versatile!

Shampoo -Finesse - Moisturizing Shampoo
rated 2 of 5
mg84 10/24/2007 9:02:00 PM

So far, I've used this shampoo twice, and as much as I thought i'd like it - it may not be the right shampoo for my hair :-(. I bought this in hopes that my recently very dry wavy hair would regain some health and softness after going for so long without proper conditioning. I have no problems with the feel, scent, price, or package of the shampoo - but unfortunately, it has been making my hair way too oily - too quickly. I have medium-thick wavy hair that can usually go without being washed for a good few days, but with this shampoo my hair becomes oily within about two days :S. I thought that my hair would benefit from this, but for whatever reason, this shampoo over-does it in terms of moisture it seems. When i used it this evening, i ended up using a different shampoo on my scalp, and Finesse along with conditioner on my ends :S.

Other -Unlisted Brand - Baking Soda
rated 4 of 5
mg84 9/15/2007 9:34:00 PM

I've been using baking soda to help with my acne for a long while (i didnt even know it was being reviewed here :P ). I usually just make a little paste of baking soda + water, and apply just a little to my pimples; it calms my skin down, and helps with any itchyness! I recently started adding a pinch of it to my cleanser, and rubbing a little on my cheeks only (where i break out most), and ever since i've been doing this, my skin has been feeling even better! I've been reading the reviews here that say that baking soda is actually really bad for the skin because it upsets the ph balance, but in my case, it has no effect, and i have no idea why :S. I always follow up with a great toner right after cleansing (one that is intended to protect the skin barrier and restore ph balance in general- Vichy Mineral water spray), and my skin feels normal. I really want to look into this whole ph issue, and i would not want to be using anything that could have a negative effect on the skin, but i've never had any sensitive reacting to this at all - and my skin is fairly sensitive too in general. I will update, but so far, it's one of the simplest things that helps my skin. I'm beginning to wonder if it depends on skin-type, like how oily or dry it naturally is (?) Honestly, I have no idea :S

Misc Beauty Tools -Vichy - spa water spray
rated 5 of 5
mg84 8/8/2007 12:36:00 PM

I've been using this for a few days now, and i really like this a lot so far :). I bought this hoping that it would help soothe my face after cleansing, particularly my cheeks which have been breaking out quite a bit over the last few months :(. I spray a little bit of this on my cheeks right after washing, i let it stay for a few moments, and then i pat my face dry as usual. So far, it has definately been soothing and calming for my skin. It reduces redness and itchyness in the areas where i have pimples. I think it's a product that most ppl can buy with confidence; you can use this anywhere trusting that it will not be irritating at all. The bottle says that it helps to decongest, alleviate redness, and reinforce the skin's natural barrier, and it has been true thus far =D. I wish it was a little cheaper, but for the way it helps my skin i think it is worth it. I'm glad that i bought this : ). Edit** - I really love this product, my skin is looking even better; now i just have to find a way to make this last longer! :P Edit#2**- This has been a very important part of my skincare routine; i've been using it for a long time. At one point i had postponed re-purchasing it for a while, but i then realized that my skin is so much better when using this, so it's definitely an important product for me.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - TruShine - Nude Shine 470 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
mg84 7/13/2007 12:42:00 PM

This is possibly the first lipstick that looks good on me...what's going on here??!! I was seriously excited to try one of these Trushine lipsticks; i wanted to try both Nude Shine and Blushberry shine, and i was most satisfied with this one : ) Blushberry is a pretty color, but on me, i thought it was still too bold looking (most red/berry/pink colors i have trouble with). I'm really happy with Nude Shine, though. It's such a subtle, wearable color. Even though it's a nude color, i don't find it plain looking at all. It does add something to the natural color of my lips, while still looking so natural and fresh. The texture of the lipstick is very smoothe, very much like a lip balm. There is no scent or taste, and the packaging is nice looking too!! I really am glad to have this, and i can definately see it as a mu staple! This entire Trushine collection is so pretty, and i think many ppl are sure to find a shade that works well for them! I'm really happy with it! (I've got light olive skin& brown eyes).

Mascara -Cover Girl - Fantastic Lash [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
mg84 6/10/2007 6:08:00 PM

I bought this in Blue-Black. I was expecting it to be almost black, but more of a navy blue. But the color surprised me..it was a lighter blue that i didnt think worked very well for me: /. I tried it again, because i wanted to give it another chance, but then it took so long for me to make the mascara get onto my lashes :S . For some reason the formula was so dry. I do like the brush shape, and i was thinking of re-purchasing this and getting Black, but i'm not sure if i should considering how dry it felt.

Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - Wetslicks - Honey Talks
rated 4 of 5
mg84 5/28/2007 5:48:00 PM

I'll start by saying that people really aren't joking when they say that these glosses are not sticky; this really is one of the most comfortable glosses i have tried. I get easily irritated by too much stickyness in lip products, but when i put this on, it felt pretty comfortable ! I think others described the color nicely - it's a golden nude color which looks very nice in the tube. Also, the scent is very nice ! When i first opened the tube, the scent reminded me of marshmallows - and after i could also pick up on the butter-scotch kind of scent as well. When i applied this, i made it a point to apply it lightly, because i wanted this to work along with my natural color, and i think that a little bit goes a long way with this gloss. It adds a nice golden sheen to the lips and i really liked the effect. It wasn't too overwhelming at all - but it does make a difference. I will have to wear this more often and update, but this gloss has made a good impression so far :) My skintone is light olive, and i find that this color works well with it.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Wear Infinite in Midnight Sky
rated 3 of 5
mg84 5/15/2007 7:36:00 PM

I recently bought this because i wanted to find a nice dark navy shadow to use wet as a liner. This color appeared navy to me when i looked at it on line, and in the stores, but now that i've tried it, i think it goes on as more of a dark dark purple. It's odd..i don't know if this would show up differently on someone else, though. Anyway, i still find that this shadow is good for lining though, and i do like the quality; i find that the pigment is good as well : ) . Even though it doesn;t really look like navy to me, i still like the effect of it, so i may buy it again. **Update** -on second thought i don't think i'll be re-purchasing, or using very often..but the quality is still ok.

Lip Treatments -The Body Shop - Papaya Lip Butter
rated 3 of 5
mg84 5/14/2007 1:31:00 AM

I'm still unsure about this product. Friends gave me this one recently which is the only reason i've had the chance to try it- since i don't really think i would have payed so much for a lip balm normally (i know that Body Shop can be expensive). First, i'll say that i do like the feeling that i get when i apply this. It feels really soft and moisturizing, not sticky at all. It feels like you're applying cream to the lips as opposed to a regular balm or gloss which is cool. Also, this one smells pretty nice. I find that this is a good strong scent that's quite awakening actually. But for some reason, this one kind of tastes a litte soapy to me : S . Honestly, that's the first thing i noticed when i put it on. Other than that, i think i could like this product. I'm not sure if i would purchase it for myself, but it's something nice to have handy, and i like the simple plastic container for it as well - so, for now, i'll say it's not too bad : )

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
rated 3 of 5
mg84 5/8/2007 5:34:00 PM

When i first heard of this, i was so surprised that you could make a face mask with aspirin, but then i really decided that it was worth trying out especially after hearing so many good things about it. I have to admit that the first time wasn't so great. I mixed a few aspirin with some honey and water, and it felt uncomfortable to me. It didn't irritate me, but it didn't feel right. I tried it again another time with 3 aspirin (they say you need un-coated, but since i only have the coated, i rinse them a little first), but this time, adding a little bit of Cetaphil cleanser to it and a little water, just to make it smoother. It seemed to work better:), and my skin was definately more comfortable. I haven't used this mask consistently enough to say weather it has helped, but i will update, because i want to start using it more, to see if it'll help fade away some of the redness left over from past pimples. So, for now, it hasn't caused any problems, which is always a good thing, but i do hope it works !

Lip Treatments -Chapstick - All Natural lip balm
rated 5 of 5
mg84 2/25/2007 10:57:00 AM

I've gotten so used to using vaseline on my lips, because many chapsticks or balms that i had tried didn't feel natural, and many tend to feel sticky or waxy on the lips. But, i rarely carry around vaseline with me, and i really wanted to find a good simple balm that would hopefully feel just as good. For some reason, i decided to look on the chapstick website, and found out about this balm ! I was surprised because when it comes to chapstick, i really didnt expect to find anything different from their classic products. After reading these good reviews, i thought that it would be worth it to try it out - and i'm glad i did :) This balm is definately natural and comfortable feeling, it has a nice sweet scent, and i find it moisturizing. I agree that if they added an spf to this one, it would be great, but even without - it's a good product. I'm really glad that the company thought of making a balm with natural ingredients :)
