Misc Beauty Tools -TEMPTU - Airbrush System

This was a total impulse purchase (well, I got a bonus from work and wanted to spend a little of it on me!). I am a girl who loves makeup, but does not spend a lot of time doing it. I am ready and out the door in 30 minutes, so I don't spend a lot of time on my hair or m/u. I tried this in 007, which was very yellow and way to dark. I hated it at first. I hated that it took me longer to put on foundation ( I have hormonal breakouts and a bit of hyperpigmentation), and I had to get up so close to my skin and "blast" it with pigment to cover my red marks. I decided to try another color, since this was horrible on me. I tried 006 and it works like a dream. I put on concealer first (my usual Mary Kay or KA SSE) and then applied this foundation as instructed. I LOVE IT. It looks like my skin! Then, I did not have to blot or touch up all day and I usually have to blot at least once. It is worth the extra three or so minutes it takes to put on, but only now that I have a match and know to use concealer first. It is natural looking and just looks like great skin. I am converted! The only thing I worry about is the little button on the air gun itself. It feels like it could easily break if pushed too hard, so I must remember to be gentle. My advice--be sure to have the correct color match and use concealer first.

Styling Products -Avon - Lotus Shield
thesavagefamily 9/25/2010 10:59:00 AM
I have waited to review this product until I tried about 3x. I have very dry, fine (lots of it), heavily highlighted, naturally very wavy hair. Needless to say I am always searching for a product to keep my hair straight for a long period of time (I live in the hot, humid south). I washed with my WEN and followed with the lotus shield then added my styling creme before I dried. My hair felt a bit sticky and dry after the lotus shield, however, once I dried and straightened it, my hair was super straight and shiny. I only had to touch up once on the top layer after sleeping, and my hair remained straight for one week (until I washed) with no frizz! The only complain was my hair was a bit dry. The next time I used it (I use it every time I wash, not every 3x), I added my leave in conditioner before the lotus shield and gone was the feeling of dryness. Again, my hair was straight and frizz free until I washed again. I also use Aveda Styling Creme and either Ojon shine mist or Biolage serum daily (again, VERY DRY hair). I will order this again as long as it continues to work, as it is much cheaper than No Frizz, which also works for me. I must say, after using 3x, this MIGHT work better than my no frizz! If your hair feels dry after using, try a leave in before and you will be much happier.

Primer/ Corrector -BeneFit Cosmetics - The Porefessional
thesavagefamily 9/23/2010 3:01:00 PM
I don't normally wear primers, but this Summer it has been hot and humid and I have been oilier than normal, so I tried this one. I like the fact that it is tinted. I don't know if it would show up as a tint on super fair skin, but it just blends with my skin tone. I have combo/acne prone skin and found this primer (or my Mary Kay one) helps my Nars Sheer Glow and Revlon PR to last all day. I have even forgotten to put it on and gently patted it over my foundation, and it worked to keep the oil away. I still have to blot once a day, but this is easy to do. Try a sample first to see if the tint is too dark, but if not, give it a try. If you are looking for smooth skin and less oil, this would be great.

Foundations -Stila - one step makeup [DISCONTINUED]
thesavagefamily 8/19/2010 12:07:00 PM
I was so excited to try this product. I have combo oily skin in the Summer and wanted something that was fast, easy, and wore well in the humidity. The color range is lacking, but I did find a match, so I picked it up. It is very thick and creamy. I used one pump and spread it with a foundation brush. It covers well (hides my monthly breakouts) and I can use a dab for concealer also. It did not cake or crease under my eyes and it wore all day with no need for powder touch ups. I even wore it to the beach when I had a slight breakout and it wore well in the water with no need to touch up or worry about runny foundation. Oh yea, it survived a day at a water park also! It does not look heavy, but finishes to a nice matte coverage. This is more coverage than I desire on a daily basis, but at certain times of the month it is perfect! The picture posted and me in black dress and DH in green shirt, is after about 10 hours of wear, no touch ups, extremely humid day at the beach.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Liberty of London_ Perennial High Style
thesavagefamily 3/16/2010 10:56:00 AM
This is a gorgeous warm pink on my medium skintone. This color just livens up my face and is very natural. I will definitely get use of this throughout the Spring and Summer when sporting a natural look. I am sure there are dupes, but I am not personally aware of them. If you are looking for a natural warm pink flush, give this one a try.

Polishes -OPI - Mad as a Hatter [DISCONTINUED]
thesavagefamily 3/16/2010 10:53:00 AM
I love this polish! It reminds me of multi color confetti on my nails. The color becomes opaque after 2 or 3 coats and wears pretty well for a glitter polish. This color is just fun to wear and looks like jewelry for your nails! EDIT: tried this again for the second time and it chipped on the first day. Will reserve this for special occasions only.

Blush -MAC - Blush Ombre - Ripe Peach [DISCONTINUED]
thesavagefamily 3/15/2010 6:41:00 PM
At first I did not get the hype of this blush. Great, another peach blush. I purchased it, as it was the perfect color for Spring, but knew I could find a dupe. Nope. No dupe in my collection of blushes. This one is the perfect peach for my medium skintone and really brings out a natural glow. I currently use Benefit Sugarbomb, Nars Orgasm and Superorgasm for peach blush, but like that this one has little shimmer and more peach. I definitely recommend getting this blush for the Spring/Summer.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
thesavagefamily 3/15/2010 6:39:00 PM
Although I like this product as an eye primer, I don't think it is the best for me. As most reviewers, the packaging makes it difficult to get 100% out and must be de-canted. I like the fact it is sheer when put on the eye lids and holds my shadow without creasing for the most part. I do prefer Mary Kay primer, as it is a bit sticker and allows less fall out, but my fall back is definitely this one. EDIT: I prefer my Mary Kay hands down over UDPP, so up for swap this one goes.

Liquid -Chanel - Le Blanc De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base
thesavagefamily 3/15/2010 6:35:00 PM
This is meant to be used as a primer, but I use it to minimize redness and even out skintone. I have a medium complexion and it does not make me look more pale, just translucent, and evens out my skintone. I use this before powder (MAC MSFN and Mary Kay mineral powder loose) and it works well. The only thing I don't like is the wide mouth bottle. I just use my fingers to apply, but one could use a foundation brush also. I definately recommend if you have any redness or uneven skintone.

Styling Products -Ojon - Restorative Hair Treatment Spray
thesavagefamily 3/15/2010 6:32:00 PM
Purchased this as part of a set at QVC. Tawaka shampoo, cleanser, Pre Cleansing Treatment, and Restorative Spray for $49. I wanted something to add moisture and condition my dry, colored hair. I use this before I use the Ojon hairspray and it provides a light hold and shine. The smell takes a bit to get used to, but I find it fades a bit. I notice my hair is not as dry and shiny. It also helps curl to hold without the crunch. I will definately re-purchase from qvc for this price!

Styling Products -Wen by Chaz Dean - Fig Styling Creme
thesavagefamily 2/25/2010 12:10:00 PM
I wanted to like this styling creme, as I love the conditioning cleansing creme. I was surprised it was so small for the price I paid ($20). I used it on wet hair, and wanted something to tame frizz, help with smoothness, and hydrate. Honestly, for the price it didn't work any better than any other styling creme. It was also not as thick as the Aveda I am used to using. I felt I had to use more since it was a bit more runny. For the price, I don't feel it is worth it, so i sent it back. I have colored, naturally wavy, dry hair and don't think this creme provided any benefits for my hair type.

Conditioner -Wen by Chaz Dean - Fig Cleansing Conditioner
thesavagefamily 2/25/2010 12:04:00 PM
I debated about trying this, as I have tried other condition only cleansing methods and been slightly pleased. I finally bought it and ended up loving it. I have colored, fine, naturally wavy, dry hair. I used it as directions said, but with a few less pumps for my below shoulder length hair. I massaged it in, left on for several minutes, combed through and rinsed. I was left with soft, shiny hair which did not feel dry at all. My ends felt conditioned and roots were not oily. I actually did purchase the 32 oz size, and will continue to re-purchase. I did use my Tawaka shampoo and conditioner after several weeks of using Wen, and was not pleased with results. My hair and scalp feels so cleaned and conditioned, so I don't plan to switch!

Treatments -Mary Kay - TimeWise Replenishing Serum + C
thesavagefamily 12/6/2009 5:54:00 PM
I love this product! I did not want to spend the $$, but I am so glad I did. I am 34, very few fine lines, acne prone, and wanted something to help even and firm up my skin (around my mouth). I love that this is packaged in 4 vials, so it is not only great to travel with, but remains fresh and stable! After week 1 I noticed my skin felt firmer, had a more "plump" appearance, and it did not cause me to break out! I am ordering my second set today! I would definately recommend trying this if you are looking to even out your skintone, fade freckles and sun damage, and experience a firming and tightening effect. I think this is one of the best products I have tried!

Conditioner -Wen by Chaz Dean - Fig Cleansing Conditioner
thesavagefamily 11/29/2009 9:34:00 PM
I have dry, highlighted, naturally very wavy hair that I straighten. I have CO washed with other conditioners and not been pleased with the results. My hair can handle lots of conditioner and serums, but with other conditioner only washes, it did not feel clean. I have used this 4 times now and love it. I only wash my hair about 1x a week, and it keeps the oilies away and my hair is soft and manageable after use. I use the recommended 8 pumps on each section then about 1 1/2 as a leave in. I follow with my styling cream (Aveda) sometimes mixed with no frizz and have great results. My ends are not dry, and I don't need to use as much serum to make my hair look shiny. I will definately re-purchase even though I don't like the price!

Eye Makeup Remover -Mary Kay - Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover
thesavagefamily 8/7/2009 10:57:00 AM
I have tried so many other eye makeup removers, but keep coming back to this one. I have used high end (Chanel) and lower end (Rimmel) and everything in between, but love this one. It is non stinging for my sensitive, contact wearing eyes and does not leave my lids oily. I can apply makeup right after with no oily residue, which is a plus if I've made a mistake with my shadow or liner! I would definately recommend trying this one--I even have my mother hooked!
