Polishes -Sally Hansen - Diamond Strength Black Diamond
taralynn36 11/22/2011 11:45:00 PM
My favorite dark nailpolish. I bought this at Walgreens on clearance at 2.59. I put it on over top a dark grey polish and it looks wonderful. Looks more like a very dark grey instead of black which is fine because I don't like dark black polish. I love the microglitter as well. It's definitely worth more than 2.59 so get it while you can.

Polishes -FingerPaints - Military Green
taralynn36 10/24/2011 12:30:00 AM
I found this on the clearance section of Sally's for $1.99. Which is funny because I've been looking for this type of shade. This really isn't a green. It's more of a greenish grey color. It looks more grey on my nails. Which is what I wanted. You definitely need 2 coats, one coat is a little streaky but 2 coats is a very nice opaque grey. Looks very nice for fall.

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Frutique-Papaya Enzyme exfoliating gel
taralynn36 10/23/2011 8:51:00 PM
This stuff really does work great. It leaves my skin as soft and smooth as when I used the Anew Clinical Peel which is 30% glycolic acid. It really shrinks my pores and has helped me get rid of some bumps that have been on my temple for about 2 years now. I like to use it about 2 times a week. I have a 50% glycolic peel from MUAC but I find myself reaching for this more often. I don't care much for the smell but it fades quickly. I agree you need to rinse quickly after each section because if it dries onto my little white down on my face it's hard to get off.

Eyeliner -Maybelline - Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
taralynn36 10/16/2011 5:24:00 PM
I have the brown, charcoal, & eggplant and I just purchased the LE shades in Forest & Sapphire. I love the forest. It's a deep vibrant forest green shade. The sapphire is a little darker than I had hoped. I was hoping for a more vibrant indigo or cobalt color like the color of a real sapphire but this is so dark it's almost black. For me anyway. I still like it though. I prefer Maybelline's gel eyeliner over Coastal Scents or other d/s brands. Eyeliner (like mascara) isn't something I'll spend big bucks on for name brand. I really like the quality of this product. I've had the brown & charcoal for several years (I bought it when they first came out) and I don't have any drying issues.
I know 10 bucks seems a lot for eyeliner for some but I was able to buy the Sapphire & Forest for BOGO1/2. You can always find these sales at your local drugstore so you really don't need to pay full price for it. It seems like I read all the time where someone is complaining how high drugstore prices are now. Well, I've been wearing makeup since the mid 80's and I can tell you that drugstore makeup is such a higher quality than it used to be. You are paying for what you get. Just because you buy high-priced items at the department store doesn't necessarily mean you are getting a much better quality item. I can afford the high priced items but I go for quality, not a price tag. Many times, this takes me to drugstore items.

Blush -Make Up For Ever - HD Blush #6
taralynn36 10/11/2011 7:50:00 PM
Call me a convert. This blush is the best I've ever used. It does last literally all day. I put this on around 6:45 am and after teaching all day, it's still visible at 4:30. I've never used a blush that last like this does. Yes, it is pretty expensive but it doesn't take much and it'll last forever. This is a great neutral coral pink that will look great on anyone. Sometimes I layer this under my Milani Baked Blush in Rose Oro for an extra punch but I've noticed as the day wears on and my powder is wearing off, that this is still quite visible. I'd love to try other colors eventually, maybe a more pink tone.

Mascara -Max Factor - Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascara
taralynn36 10/9/2011 3:35:00 PM
I wanted these when they first came out but never got around to buying it before Max Factor hauled up stakes here in the U.S. So I was pretty excited when I saw it at the Dollar Tree. I bought 2 of the 24kt brown (good brown mascara is so hard to find) and one of the Brilliant Bourdeaux. I actually really like these. The brown is a great neutral daytime look for me as I have light blonde hair. The reddish brown reminds me of their deep auburn and makes my blue eyes pop. It is easily worn on its own and I really think the highlight color makes it pop. Now, I just put a light coat on the tips for a hint of color, I don't drown my eyelashes in it. If I try for all over highlight then it can look a little clumpy. But I have to say that the defining coat has given me the longest lashes I have ever had. I'm running to the D.T. tomorrow to buy up their stock of brown.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Cool Effect Cooling Cream Eye Color in lilac freeze
taralynn36 10/5/2011 10:30:00 AM
I picked this up at the Dollar Tree. I used it as a base to bump up the purple hues of Toasted & Hustle in the UD Naked palette. It literally lasts all day on me and makes a great base. I like to apply using an eyeshadow brush as it makes it go on a little deeper and more even. I'm heading back to the Dollar Tree to pick up more of these.

Mascara -Maybelline - one by one, waterproof
taralynn36 9/20/2011 8:03:00 PM
So far I am satisfied with this mascara and that's a first for me with a waterproof. I've tried every d/s brand of waterproof and was only partially satisfied with CG Lash Blast and Maybelline's Full & Soft. I liked Full & Soft but it ended up smearing & getting clumpy.
Now, I buy waterproof for only one purpose. I buy it because I want something waterproof. I don't want it to smear, smudge, or come off. I really don't care about the lengthening or volumizing, I just want something that won't budge when my eyes run, which they do frequently because of allergies.
I have to say that this mascara meets those expectations. I am truly satisfied with the way it defines my lashes and does not budge. Generally, I only use wp mascara on my lower lashes because of my watery eyes. This holds up really well. The couple of times I've used it on my upper lashes, I've been satisfied as well. I loved the non-waterproof version but it flaked on me, this one doesn't. I really love the individual, defined lashes that this gives you. And a nice cheap price so double score!

Deodorants -Avon - Skin So Soft Fresh & Smooth Hair Minimizing Roll-On Anti-Perspirant Deodorant
taralynn36 9/18/2011 6:26:00 PM
While this doesn't stand up to heavy sweating it's actually works on the minimizing end. I find that it's not good enough for me at blocking odor & wetness during the day so I apply it at night. I use an epilator on my underarms and I normally can go about 2 weeks between use. If I shave I have dark brown hair that grows and if I use the epilator, it grows back dark blonde. Using this deodorant in conjunction with an epilator, I can go 3-4 weeks between epilating and its now a fine lighter blonde color. The only cons with this is that it doesn't hold up well during the day and it's really wet and takes a very long time to dry. I'll keep using it at night and with their sales, I rarely pay over $1 a bottle.

Shampoo -Suave - Professionals Dry Shampoo Spray
taralynn36 9/12/2011 9:02:00 PM
I like this product. I find that it moderately controls the oil. It's not as good as Batiste from Sally's but it works well for an easy to find drugstore brand. The smell is sort of strong at first but after a few minutes I can't smell it anymore. I have repurchased this, it's great to take camping, I keep one in my camper for when I can't get to a shower. I have blonde hair so I can't say much on whether this leaves a white residue. I prefer the Batiste but it is more expensive.

Styling Products -Goody - Simple Styles Pony Pouf
taralynn36 9/12/2011 8:58:00 PM
As someone who always has a thin ponytail, I liked the idea of having a poufy one. This product does work for me but I really think that if you have thick hair, this won't work as well for you.
This is basically a clip that you stick in your hair as you pull it back for a ponytail. I do not use a ponytail holder. It lets you clasp in 2 thicknesses which is nice. My hair is a little past my shoulder but very fine and I have to clip it on the tightest clip, or the second one. Then it has little grooves on the top of the clip that you can pull your hair up into which is supposed to give it the increased volume. Like the other Simple Styles, this comes in brunette & blond. I have one of these which probably is enough but I may buy another if I lost the one I have.

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Comfort-Flex Updo Barrette
taralynn36 9/12/2011 8:47:00 PM
I absolutely love these! Be forewarned that if you buy the bigger size, they won't work for fine hair. I use the mini-size ones and put my hair in a twist and it'll hold all day. My hair is a couple inches past my shoulders, fine and blonde. If I use the bigger ones like in the picture, my hair falls out. But I finally found the mini ones at Walgreens and they work awesome. I got so excited when I finally found them I bought 4! Best hair accessory ever!

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Modern Updo Maker
taralynn36 9/12/2011 8:43:00 PM
I've had no luck with this. I have the spin pin which I love but no matter how much I try this, it won't hold my hair (which happens to be a couple inches past my shoulder, one length fine blonde hair). I've giving up on using this and just use a clip instead.

Hair Styling Tools -Goody - Spin Pin
taralynn36 9/12/2011 8:38:00 PM
I love these although I wish they were a little shorter for fine hair. I have fine blonde hair that's a couple inches past my shoulders. When I wear these, they will stick out about 1/4 to 1/2 inch past my bun. But they are so simple, you use it as you would a corkscrew. My hair is fine and I don't have any problems with it falling out that much. I keep one set in my camper and one set at home, that's how much I like them. Much better than Goody's updo one that shaped like a giant curved U. I've had no luck with that one.

Fragrances -Avon - Candid eau de cologne spray
taralynn36 9/4/2011 11:56:00 PM
I bought the skin softener for some odd reason. Honestly, I figured if these scents have been around for so long they must have some good qualities. After my bath the other evening, I slathered the lotion on and took a whiff and thought nothing special. It definitely has an old-fashioned scent at first. The dry-down isn't too bad though. And the funniest thing is that although I have a dresser-top full of expensive fragrances, this 1.99 skin softener won rave reviews from my husband. Go figure.
