Skincare - Face -Pro Activ - 3-Step System

Burning, itching, peeling and red. I tried the system TWICE. Each time I used all the product in hopes it would work. The second time I even bought the moisturizer to combat the drying effects. The cleanser was at best OK, but I needed a seperate eye makeup remover because I didn't want those scrubby bits to get in my eyes. The toner then sucked up any remaining moisture in my face, followed by the lotioin that bleached my pillowcases and made my face burn. I am a firm believer that no matter how bad your acne is, gentle is BETTER. You get the exact opposit with Proactive.

WARNING: People will stop you in the street and ask you what you are wearing. GORGEOUS! Smells of all things sexy, sweet, and feminine. You can wear a burlap sack and as long as you are wearing this perfume you will feel like a French sophisticate.

What is the big deal with this mascara? I was totally seduced by the claims of the #1 mascara/all celebs wear it/all MAs use it blah blah blah. For $20 I could buy several drugstore brands with different brushes and they would probably be just as good. You should toss your mascara every three monthes or something anyways, and I'd rather toss away five bucks than twenty. I guess I just wanted to try once though, just to assuage my curiousity. In a word: underwhelming.

Someone earlier said in their review that "women hate it- men love it" I can definitely see that. I didn't find it to be particularily long lasting, but it just smells GOOD. Unique and girly. I am 27 and think any age can wear this. I can't say exactly what it smells like but it makes me think of cake, sunshine, cookies, cotton candy, summer, long hair and lip gloss. In short- this is a "girl's girl" perfume.*UPDATE- scent finally wore on me and I have left it for a more 'womanly' scent.....sandalwood and bergamont, anyone? I have come to the conclusion that it is not for women who are over high-school age.

Lip Treatments -Smith's Rosebud Salve - Smith's Rosebud Salve

Eh. I am kind of underwhelmed by this. It is a nice basic lip balm.....unless you have some serious chapping. I would need to go for the Carmex or Medicated Chap Stick for that. I put this on my lips at night, and they remain soft. The smell is pleasant. The tin is cute, but if you have nails it becomes a pain. That and I never liked having to put my finger repeatedly into a container. They should try to make this in a tube. I would MAYBE put this on a bug bite, NEVER put it on a zit or a baby bottom (fragrance for baby=bad) as the tin suggests.

if it's good enough for J-Lo; it's good enough for me. Doesn't make me break out, lasts all day, and goes with my skintone whether I be pale or tan. I am a brunette, and I read somewhere brunettes always need blush; blondes always need mascara. This is a great blush that can go for day or night. Not too pink, not too peach. Not to shimmery, nto too matte. PERFECTO! Definitely a "staple".

Lip Gloss -Bare Escentuals - Buxom Lips Lip Gloss in Amber

I got this with the Crown Jewels set ($52). I would NO WAY spend $18 for it. It's a basic gloss. I am pretty fair, and it adds a TOUCH of nude-y pinky/peach and shine. Not really good for adding any color. I also experienced NO plumping. It doesn't tingle- it is more of a cooling sensation. It doesn't last that long, either. BUT since it came with the kit is was a good bonus.

Comes in nice colors and coverages. I think they have come down a bit in price, too. Color isn't the best, but the no mess applicator is great.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - bare Minerals Foundation #2/#3 & Mineral Veil
rated 2 of 5
sksterling 5/24/2007 12:44:00 PM

I have used a couple MM before, this one is one of the best. Doesn't turn orange, builds coverage well, and isn't terribly pricey for what you get & how long it lasts. Th whole "swirl, tap & buff" thing is a little messy; my sink has a permanent dusting. They should come out with a shaker or something. * UPDATE- For some reason all of a sudden this looks heavy on me. It is gathering in my laugh lines (ACK! 27 with laugh lines!) and in the bright sunlight it has a bit of a mask-y effect. I suppose this would be WAY less noticible if I wore it in the evening. I am going to blame it on the summer skin-change and pack this away for winter. Update to the UPDATE: Someone actually stopped me at the mall the other day and told me my foundation was streaked and blotchy. If you can believe it, it was actually said to me in a nice and "girlfriend" kind of way. After further inspection, I saw she was correct. Masky, blotchy, and streaky. Try and resist the hype and the infomerical!!!

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Defrizz
rated 5 of 5
sksterling 5/23/2007 11:27:00 AM

Best serum EVER. No build up, no greasy feeling, washes off your hands, doesn't smell a whole lot, only need a little blob/lasts forever, tames curls/frizz without making your head a matte, limp mop. What more can I say?

Conditioner -Bumble & Bumble - Leave in Conditioner

I mix a blob of this with a blob of the serum and it totally calms my think, wavy hair. No noticable smell, not sticky, and washes off your hands. Lasts a long time, too. I never used a leave-in before, but this has converted me.

Shampoo -Bumble & Bumble - Creme de Coco
rated 5 of 5
sksterling 5/23/2007 11:22:00 AM

My hair stylist recommended this to me. I have always been leary of expensive shampoo/conditioner (basically anything that gets washed down the drain). This is great. The bottle lasts forever! I bought it March 17th, and I have only used maybe half the bottle. I wash my hair 4 times a week and it is medium length, and VERY thick. It smells ok, not over-perfumy; and I didn't really smell it when my hair dried. Good shampoo for dry (put not parched) hair.

Powder -Neutrogena - mineral sheers mineral powder foundation-fair to light
rated 1 of 5
sksterling 5/9/2007 12:36:00 PM

I had high hopes. Usually Neutrogena makes nice stuff. The coverage was VERY sheer. If you have anything to hide, this ain't gonna cut it. If you have a flawless complexion and want a basic powder, this might work.

Foundations -Arbonne - Mineral Makeup Foundation
rated 1 of 5
sksterling 4/20/2007 12:45:00 PM

I have been using mineral makeup for a while now. So I decided to try Arbonne. I ordered the lightest shade, and it was still a little dark. I tried it anyway after I tanned a bit. I put it on in the morning for work and by lunchtime it had turned orage. I don't even have oily skin! I looked like an oompa-loompa. The only redeeming quality of this experience was the great kubuki-style brush. Other than that, try bare Escentuals, Larenim, or Philosophy to avoid looking like an oompa-loompa. ** I called Arbonne to return the product and first they wouldn't talk to me because I was not the rep. I said I AM THE CUSTOMER! They didn't care. I paid about $25 for the powder, and they refunded me about $6. i called and asked why they only gave me six dollars back- they said it was a computer mistake and would fix it. THEY DIDN'T. Arbonne is kind of shady......
