Powder -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder
silkyskin 4/7/2008 10:12:00 PM
Hate. I know it's a very strong word, but I have a very strong (negative) opinion of this. I thought I'd give it a try since I seem to have a talc sensitivity, and this is talc-free. Well, I've been using it for about a week, and it has totally clogged up my pores. I haven't changed anything else, so I know it's this. I thought it would be an easier option for me, being available at the ds, but nothing is worth this kinds of congestion. And for being a ds, it isn't cheap. Luckily I got it from CVS, it can be returned. The packaging sucks & the brush is horrible (not that I expected it to be anything else). Seriously, don't bother.

Polishes -OPI - Senorita Rose-alita
silkyskin 4/6/2008 9:54:00 PM
I ♥♥♥♥♥ it! I had a mani yesterday, and couldn't decide on a color, and jumped to this color (probably because I DESPERATE for spring to get here!) It is not even close to my usual color choices, but every time I look at my nails, it makes me feel a little happy! Who would have thought I could get that from polish. A very girlie pink color (barbie-ish) with very subtle gold flecks. Very pretty! I'm definitely buying my own bottle, so I can enjoy this more often :)

Skincare - Body -Sally Hansen - Airbrush Legs in Light Glow
silkyskin 3/23/2008 6:01:00 PM
Oh YEAH! This stuff is my new favorite! I used today for the first time, feeling a little nervous about the outcome, but it was FANTASTIC! I took the advice of the other reviews here (thanks!) and sprayed it onto my (gloved) hands, and quickly rubbed/blended it in. I worked in small sections and it turned out amazing. I couldn't believe how even it looked. I did a couple of layers on a few spots for more coverage and they looked great. My legs looked naturally beautiful. It didn't rub off, and it looked great in florescent and natural light. I have very fair skin and this was very believable on me. I can't say how many applications I'll get or if the can will crap out and stop working, but I hope not. I just loved having this on rather than nylons! I would definitely use this again (and again, and again, and again!). Thanks for all the helpful reviews; I might not have tried it without all of them!

Lip Liners -MAC - Cremestick Liner - Beurre
silkyskin 3/22/2008 9:37:00 AM
This has to be my favorite MAC lip pencil. I've used it every day since I got it (and that was months ago!). It truly is a ylbb look, and I love it. I don't have a lot of color to my lips naturally, so this makes them look full and beautifully (and naturally). My favorite look is to completely fill in my lips with this, softly-just a wash of color, and then top with Jellybabe. Absolutely perfect. This is a staple for me. I just hope they never discontinue it!

Powder -mark - Powder Buff powder foundation
silkyskin 2/25/2008 8:23:00 AM
*sigh* This should have been perfect. I wish it was perfect. It is really inexpensive ($8 USD) and I found a perfect shade match for my very fair skin (Ivory). I wore this only 3 times. I couldn't believe how amazing my skin looked with it on! Soft, smooth, even and just airbrushed/perfect. But when I looked a few hours later, I noticed some bumps-the breakout kind. So, I washed it off and noticed I had 5 new zits. That is just weird. I thought it could be stress or something else, because they shouldn't pop up THAT fast, so I tried it again another day. Same end result; 3 more. Same with the 3rd day I used it. I kept trying it because it is a fantastic foundation. Why does my skin have to be so reactive? I recommend it, though, because it may not break you out, and it leaves a flawless looking finish...just not worth it for me :(

Sunscreen -Bain de Soleil - Orange Gelee Sunscreen SPF 4
silkyskin 2/20/2008 12:52:00 PM
Boy, I hate to be the nay-sayer here, but I didn't really care for this. It was really slimy. I only used it on my legs, which did get more color than they usually do, but sadly the color was red. It seemed to accelerate the burn. Not exactly what I was looking for.

Self Tanners -Bain de Soleil - Streakguard Tinted Self Tanner
silkyskin 2/20/2008 12:49:00 PM
Not for fair skin, IMO. I used it after a recent trip to Mexico, just to even out some tanned spots and boy was it ugly. Not nearly the right base. Too yellow/orangey. I know that it's the temporary tint (used to prevent streaking) and it washes off, but the end result color was ugly too. I also really disliked the smell. I used it only on my chest, thankfully. I'll just stick to my Origins Show It Off instead. Much more natural. Luckily it was cheap, but I still consider it a waste of money.

Foundations -Shiseido - Sun Block Compact SPF 32
silkyskin 2/20/2008 12:44:00 PM
LOVE it! We recently went to Cancun, and I brought this along. I was worried about the actual protection this would provide, because I burn very easily and do not want to burn. I have VERY fair skin (MAC NC15-20) and decided to give it a shot. So, I wore it only on my forehead, and my regular sunscreen on the rest of my face. I checked out my skin that night, while washing off the powder, and it wasn't burned in the least. The powder actually works to protect against sun! AND it provided great coverage and a soft matte finish. This is probably the greatest powder foundation I've ever used. Foundation and sunscreen in one swift sweep of my brush. I love it! I hate the blue compact, so I stopped at Sephora and bought the brown one instead. Much more discreet and polished looking than the blue one ;p As long as I get Sun Block powder, though, I could care less what kind of compact it come in! Do try!

Powder -Shiseido - Pureness Matifying compact
silkyskin 2/20/2008 12:38:00 PM
Hhmmmmm...I like the powder ok, but it has almost NO coverage. Seriously, I have used many, many powder foundations and this has the least amount of coverage ever. It isn't cakey, nor is it too drying, but it really only has the coverage of pressed powder. I'm certainly not going to keep buying it if that's the only result I get. It's too expensive for that.

Eyes -Jan Marini - Age Intervention EyeLash
silkyskin 2/19/2008 3:31:00 PM
I'm BIG fan of Jan Marini. I work at a salon/spa and we carry her line. The products WORK and provide amazing results. Especially this one. I bought it and started using it in October, and by December (just in time for Christmas) my lashes were much longer and quite a bit thicker. I had a spot on my left eye where the lashes were sparse and it looked more bare than the right, and now that's all filled in. When I wear my Shiseido mascara base, and then mascara, it seriously looks like false eyelashes. People are always commenting on how long and lovely my lashes are! Gotta love that! I would continue to purchase and buy this but our sales rep said they are temporarily halting sales due to the media controversy and until further proof of safety can be provided. I hope they do so quickly. I'd definitely continue to purchase!

Crème -Cover Girl - Cover Girl TruBlend Whipped Foundation
silkyskin 2/19/2008 10:10:00 AM
This is perfect on me! I am very fair, (MAC NC15-20) and cannot ever seem to find a foundation that is light enough without being super pink/peach. Not all fair skin is pink. I used this in Ivory and it blends perfectly into my skin. You couldn't even tell I was wearing foundation! Usually, I don't care for Cover Girl foundations because they never seem to have a good color match. I found this to be light and neutral based and it covers like a dream! I used a foundation brush to apply, and it works amazing. It blends smoothly, leaves a soft powdery finish, and my skin looks so soft and airbrushed. It evens out my skin tone without looking or feeling like a mask. I did have to work in small areas at a time (i.e. forehead, one cheek, the other cheek, etc.) but once you do it a few times, it goes really quickly. I have SUPER oily skin and my oily skin stayed matte for many hours (longer than I expected), and much longer than anything else I've used. I am also extremely prone to breakouts and this did NOT break me out. A keeper for sure~FINALLY!!

Blush -MAC - Sheertone Blush in Sincere
silkyskin 2/19/2008 9:47:00 AM
Personally, I LOVE this blush! I use it as a bronzer though. I have been looking (and looking and looking) for a bronzer that isn't muddy, dirty or shimmery (why all the glitter/shimmers?!?!) and this is perfect! It is just dark enough to contour, but not so dark that it looks un-natural. Goes on pretty sheer and has easy, buildable (and blendable) color. It doesn't change color on me, and I have worn it in some HOT weather. It gives me a beautiful golden glow and warms up my skin. I will continue to use this as a bronzer forever (unless they discontinue it or something WAY better comes along-which I doubt). I'm a MAC NC15-20, for reference.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Emjoi - Light Caress, Corded
silkyskin 12/29/2007 9:34:00 AM
I should start off by mentioning that I've been a waxer for about 10 years. When you go from shaving to waxing, it really takes some getting used to. When you go from waxing to something like an Emjoy, it's really not all that different. I will say, the removal with the Emjoi hurts much more. It is in no way intolerable. It took a few minutes to become 'comfortable' but then it wasn't so bad. I like that it's corded because it never loses power. The cord is long enough where I don't have to worry about standing in some awkward position to get all of the hair. It's loud, but not unusually so; no more than an electric razor (I know because I have one of those too). It doesn't do a very good job of containing the removed hair, leaving it to fall and scatter where ever. My epilator didn't come with specific instructions about which way to hold it/go with it. Do I hold it with the light facing me, or facing away from me? Yeah, that sort of information would be helpful to people, especially if they aren't used to epilation of any sort. I have not had problems using this, it's fast and effective, and in my opinion, worth the $50 or so that I paid for it. I do like waxing more because it's relatively silent, is faster for me, and is more thorough (with a single pull). This is great for touch-ups between waxing, though. For reference, I have medium-colored, slightly coarse, curly leg hair that is prone to ingrowns. I have only used this on my legs.

Lip Liners -Rimmel - vinyl jelly lip gloss liner in Starlet
silkyskin 12/22/2007 9:48:00 AM
I'm lovin Rimmel these days. I bought this forever ago, and loved it when I first got it and then forgot about it. Well, this treasure has been revived! It glides on better than any pencil EVER, and gives me a beautiful YLBB look. A definite must for the natural but somehow very polished look that I go for. I wear it all the time, and sometimes will out a little gloss on over it (clear is all you need because the color is BEAUTIFUL) or a little pinkish lipstick. It is very versatile so inexpensive. The lasting power isn't the best, but because the color is so perfect and it's so easy to sharpen and apply, I never feel bad for burning through it so quickly! For reference, I'm pretty pale: MAC NC 15-20.

Lip Liners -Rimmel - Exaggerate-063 Eastend Snob
silkyskin 12/22/2007 9:43:00 AM
I just love this! I'm a total MAC snob so when I got this, I was surprised to find how much I loved it! It's very similar to MAC's Dervish, but is a bit lighter and not quite as pink. The texture is very smooth and creamy, and it lasts and lasts. I wear this when I want a nude look. I cannot pull of the true nude look, it makes me look dead, so I was elated to get that sort of look using this. It's FANTASTIC using MAC Hug Me on top. Or with a pink gloss-very girlie. It's cheap too so no regrets. I'll definitely repurchase this.
