Primer/ Corrector -Sally Hansen - Cornsilk Zero Shine Invisible Mattifier
rated 1 of 5

I get the feeling from all the reviews and my own experience that if I used this product w/out makeup over it, it might be halfway decent. However, I do wear makeup and the result is....hmmmm, icky? to say the least. Please heed my warning and that of the other reviewers before me - when you put makeup over this mattifier it will ball up and make you look like your skin is flaking off. If you're thinking eeeewwwwwwww, you would be right. It is quite gross and no amount of wiping with a tissue or dusting w/ a brush will remove it all. On a good note it's cheap, it is pretty good at mattifying, and it looks like it'd do a good job w/out makeup(from what I can see before I put my foundation over it), but no way would I ever use this with makeup again. Oh, and it does smell like rubbing alcohol but the smell does dissipate.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Wear Infinite Long Lasting Powder Eyeliner
rated 4 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 12:26:00 AM

I absolutely adored this eyeliner when I first got it. It goes on smoothly and the color is AMAZING - I used "Emerald". However, it was a splurge for me even w/ the discount at Target and it DOESN'T LAST! I think I used this eyeliner for maybe two months, if that, and now it's down to a tiny stub. I just can't afford to keep shelling out the big bucks for this so often so I switched to Apt.5 in EL-13. The color's not as good as L'Oreal's but it lasts me a heck of a lot longer and it's much cheaper. However, if you can afford it you'll love it.

Eyeliner -Apt.5 Cosmetics - Eyeliner

Love the color! I've been wearing EL-13, which is a bright intense green color, for about a year now - day or night, simply varying the intensity for the occasion and have gotten so many compliments! It's so hard to find an intense eyeliner color in many brands and I hate wet n' wild cause the color never shows up. If I want intense w/ this color I simply sharpen and then heat the tip w/ my hairdryer for two seconds and it goes on like a liquid liner w/ out needing a surgeons steady hand to do it! The liner's not all that long lasting though, so if you're sweating it out at a club or something it's not gonna last - good news is it won't smear under your eyes though - it'll just wear off. L'Oreal makes a similar color but MUCH more expensive and doesn't last. This is my HG for now!

Mascara -Maybelline - XXL volume+length microfiber mascara
rated 3 of 5

I tried the waterproof version of this mascara and it made my lashes feel stiff and dry. Plus, the black color did not completely cover up the white color simply b/c once the white dries, (which is immediately) your lashes are too stiff to get the other brush to reach those tiny lashes that the white covered. very frustrating! The mascara DOES make your lashes look longer and thicker than many other waterproof mascaras w/out all the clumps though, which is nice, but not at the expense of having black and white lashes. Plus the fat, short handle made it hard to manuever the brush into the corners of my eyes.

Loose Powders -Sally Hansen - Shineless Classic Translucent Loose Powder
rated 5 of 5
redhair 8/21/2005 11:19:00 PM

I've used this product for ages and it's still the best one out there! It sets your makeup and absorbs the oil w/ out making you look like you put anything on. I actually had a hard time finding this product for awhile and now that it's readily available again, I see they did a bit of a packaging overhaul, but luckily the powder itself seems the same. The packaging sucks now though, b/c you can't take out the plastic tray anymore to dip the puff in that way awwww. The puff, btw, is far superior to any that maybelline or CG supplies w/ their powders - nice and fluffy! I actually used to use the cornsilk mattifying powder but I find that the translucent absorbs all the oil w/out making you look too, um well, matte! You look glowy and natural and it doesn't change the color of the makeup underneath - a problem I had w/ maybelline and CG powders among others. It's nice and cheap, lasts all day, and NO BREAKOUTS! I use the No Color shade on my ppp skin, btw, it's the best one for a sheer look. Loose powder can be a bit messy, but it's definitely better than pressed for a more natural face!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Lash Out
rated 5 of 5
redhair 8/21/2005 10:51:00 PM

I've been using this mascara for years and every now and then I'll try something new and always wind up coming back to this. Lash Out gives you the longest, thickest, most dramatic looking lashes w/out all the clumps and globs other mascaras give you. It doesn't smudge under eyes and comes off easily w/ soap and water. It can be a bit dramatic though, so it's probably not the best choice in mid-summer at the beach or something if you want to look natural. One piece of advice - I find that new tubes require some "breaking in" b/c the formula can be a bit much - but don't give up on it just yet! Just try rolling the brush on a tissue in the beginning to take off the excess and within a few times of using it you won't even have to do that, it'll go on perfectly!

Most definitely the worst mascara I have ever purchased. Clumps, clumps, clumps and oh yeah, more clumps! Doesn't lengthen, doesn't thicken just clumps. Yech!

Concealers -L'Oreal - ideal balance stick concealer
rated 4 of 5
redhair 8/21/2005 10:28:00 PM

Well, it's not the best concealer I've ever used - Maybelline's defunct shine-free stick concealer gets that distinction (man I miss that product....), but it's the best stick concealer I've found since. Nice colors (even though there's not a lot to choose from), good coverage, doesn't rub off easily, and I love LOVE that they made it in a skinny stick (tell me - how in the world do you cover a pimple w/ those lipstick shaped tubes that everyone else makes?!?). My main gripe is that it turns slightly orange and darker colored when you put powder on top. Errghh! But it still doesn't change colors as bad as liquid concealers, so four lippies.

Concealers -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Concealer
rated 2 of 5
redhair 8/21/2005 10:15:00 PM

Super-blendable is right. In fact it blends so well it goes right into your skin w/out covering ANYTHING - rubs off easily too. Really small tube for a steep price that does nada. Only good point is the paintbrush like applicator that really contours around a pimple and under eyes.

Liquid -Cover Girl - Outlast All Day Liquid Make-up (foundation+primer) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
redhair 8/20/2005 9:02:00 PM

Apply moisturizer, wait, blot, apply primer, wait, blot grease, apply makeup, blot more grease. Yup, if I followed these steps the makeup would last me all day w/ only one mid-day blotting session. If not....grease grease and more grease. I got tired of going through the routine every day so that's it for me! My mom tried this makeup too and we both agreed that if you didn't powder over it, your face feels soooo sticky! Fun times if you have pets and their fur is getting stuck all over your makeup, lol! Oh! one more gripe. What the heck is up w/ their packaging?! How in the world do you squeeze the last of the makeup or primer out of the container when they're both stuck together and there is a big plastic divider btwn the two bottles making it impossible to squeeze too hard? Think of how nuch makeup is wasted! Only two redeeming qualities - good colors and nice coverage.

Liquid -Maybelline - Wonder Finish
rated 3 of 5
redhair 8/20/2005 8:39:00 PM

Well, I'm torn. I really like the color I'm using - creamy natural - and the fact that it's oil free and non-acnegenic, but everything else about this makeup is just eh. Sheer coverage, leaves me greasy within a few hours, makeup tends to leak onto the lid, rubs off.... Ya know, the more I think about it this makeup's not that great. No more repurchasing for me.

Blush -Almay - Nearly Naked Touch Pad Liquid Blush
rated 5 of 5
redhair 8/20/2005 8:20:00 PM

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!! I've been using gel/liquid blushes for several years now, since discovering that many powder blushes contain oil and those that don't tend to be expensive. Well, I wasn't that impressed with the price of this blush either but I decided to give it a try. I'd been desperate since Maybelline discontinued their Express Blush and I'd gotten to the point where I was digging out the last remnants w/ my fingernails - not very sanitary! Anyway, I tried this blush in Berry Nude and it's perfect! The color looks exactly like how I'd look if I blushed or after exercising. It goes on so creamy and smooth and you just build up the color to how much you want on - totally foolproof. And did I mention it's oil free and won't clog pores? I have fair, oily skin that has been prone to breakouts since I was a teen and this has NOT MADE ME BREAK OUT ONCE! And I've been wearing it all summer! My only complaint is if you put powder over it, it will tone down the color a lot so you gotta make sure to put on more initially. But unlike other liquid blushes it won't change to an orangey tint if you sweat. Love the packaging too! Compact, leakproof, and easy to open, although I see some reviewers had difficulty. Just sandwich it btwn your palms and twist it that way, voila! My HG of blushes, sigh, I'm in love! Now if only I could find a replacement for colour endure foundation, lol!

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Super Blonde
rated 2 of 5
redhair 7/8/2005 1:47:00 AM

Well, didn't work. I kinda look like Cyndi Lauper on the cover of True Colors w/out the red. Yeah, it's basically yellow (and I do mean yellow not blonde) on the roots and orange in descending intensity throughout the rest of my hair. Now this is probably partially my fault since I had previously been dying my hair red every three to six weeks for some time before this, but then L'Oreal shouldn't advertise this as a product that can be used on previously dyed hair! btw, I followed the directions - apply on everything but roots first for half the time, yadda yadda, but it still came out orange & yellow after an hour, the full time recommended. The good news - the bleach didn't burn at all, my hair is not as damaged as I feared it might be, and the scent after rinsing it out is pretty, clean and not overpowering. This product might very well work on undyed hair since my roots took it pretty well, but my hair looks like crap, so only two lippies. Oh, and word to the wise, DO NOT use on eyebrows! I stupidly did even though it tells you not to and they came out spotted even though I did a thorough job of distributing the dye. Whoops!

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Feria Haircolor
rated 1 of 5
redhair 6/19/2005 12:35:00 AM

I purchased Feria R75 Flaming Red in the hopes that I would finally find my HG of haircolors and was so disapointed! I've tried many other home coloring products out there, and I gotta say that Feria is THE WORST!!!! I had high expectations after I read a review in a magazine saying that Feria is the best for red color. HAH! Now, I know that red fades quickly but never like this! It started out fairly close to the picture (a little darker but my original color is med.brown) I shampooed with John Freida radiant red anti-fade shampoo and I still saw orange suds when I shampooed. By the end of the third week my hair was almost back to original color - I almost thought I had mistaken it for a temporary haircolor! Plus it severely damaged my hair! Incredibly hard to wash out-takes forever b/c you have to wash w/ an included shampoo....twice. My hair became so dry and damaged and I was losing more hair when I brushed and shampooed. Plus the packaging sucks because they don't show you how your hair will turn out depending on original color - only popular home color I've noticed that doesn't do that. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
