Polishes -Essie - Bordeaux

I picked this up at TJ Maxx for three bucks! I was looking for a really dark red or purple for fall and this certainly fits the bill. It's a gorgeous shade of deep burgundy red. Cover well in two coats and is super, super shiny. Just gorgeous.

Lotions/ Creams -Soap and Glory - The Righteous Butter
pishtosh 8/19/2009 3:06:00 PM
I can't get over the scent of this cream; last year, I picked up the spray-on version of this moisturizer, it comes in a spritz bottle and doesn't give a ton of moisture, but I noticed that the lovely scent lasted all day on my skin. I used it more as a body spray, just for the fragrance. I picked this body butter up yesterday, so now I can cover my perfume and moisturizer I one easy step. =) It's priced decently, for the amount you get, and the packaging is sturdy and cute. I'd honestly wear this stuff just for the smell, but as luck would have it, the consistency of this cream is silky and beautiful, and it sinks in easily and leaves your skin feeling great. Will continue to purchase on my trips to the US, as it's not available in my Canadian city.

Polishes -Sephora - Nail Polish
pishtosh 7/25/2009 1:08:00 AM
This is a review for Sephora's brand of polish, not the OPI-related one. The ones that come in little, flat, oval-shaped bottles. And YUCK, what a waste. I bought a really pretty creamy primary blue shade because it's a hard to find colour and I figured, hey, for six bucks, it can't be that bad. Wrong! I usually use Sally Hansen polishes, which are never more than 3 bucks a pop and cover/last beautifully. After three days of this Sephora polish, almost 1/3 of it had chipped away on each nail! Such a bummer and a huge ripoff! >=(

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase paste

I was really on the fence about this one; I wanted it so badly, and when I finally picked it up at Sephora a few weeks ago, I wasn't thrilled with the results. (I'm only using it around my eyes, under light concealer to get rid of my dark circles.) But I have figured this stuff out; use AS LITTLE as possible! Honestly, the less you can get away with using, the better it looks. And a little goes an incredibly long way. I blend this under my eyes and over my horrid, purple eyelids and it evens things out beautifully. It's nice and creamy (needs to be set with a powder, or it will crease) which is nice for around the eyes. I like the packaging, because a tube would surely squirt out too much product. I use a concealer brush for under my eyes, and a finger to blend it over my lid. Overall, I notice when I don't use this stuff, so it's becoming an everyday routine kind of thing. Oh, one more thing; I'm pretty pale and am using the second lightest shade. I was worried about it being too dark, but now I realize the lightest shade would not have neutralized my circles; it would have made them look gray, because it's too light. Just a heads up. EDIT: Okay, upped the lippies to 5. I LOVE this product. Everything about it. I refuse to go without it now and will repurchase without a doubt. For someone with serious dark circles, this is a god send. I have also been using it over blemishes and it works wonders; a tiny dab under foundation. If you have dark circles, try this for sure. This is hands down the best product I've found for covering them. HG!

Lipstick -New York Color - Ultra Moist Lipwear - Violet Shine
pishtosh 6/24/2009 3:49:00 PM
I picked this lipstick up after seeing YouGotYourChocolateInMyPB's FOTD using it. It looked like such a pretty, YLBB kind of pink and I am all about that. It looked a little iffy in the tube, but as soon as I put it on I was so pleased; it's a very wearable shade, nothing too dramatic but perfect for summer days. I love it. And for less than two dollars! =)

Concealers -Revlon - Age Defying Spa Concealer [DISCONTINUED]

This concealer is beautiful, IF it's what you're looking for. It's SHEER, so if you want decent coverage, you're definitely going to have to layer. That being said, it's incredibly creamy and blends like a dream. Sheer concealers with a texture this nice and a price tag this low are surprisingly hard to come by. I was using Lancome's Effacernces under my eyes and for spot coverage on my face as well, but it felt too heavy for the warmer summer months. After reading the reviews for this stuff, I decided to try it. Now I use Effacernes just around my eyes for extra coverage and this stuff everywhere else. It's great on bare skin to very naturally even out skintone, and also great overtop of cream or liquid foundation, to give a little extra coverage without looking heavy. It also wears well; I spent a super hot, muggy day at the zoo and my makeup still looked great when I got home. Its packaging makes it incredibly portable and convenient. If you're looking for a creamy concealer that doesn't look like spackle, give it a go.

Sunscreen -Coppertone - NutraShield Dual Defense 70+SPF
pishtosh 6/22/2009 5:50:00 PM
I've been using this sunblock for a couple of weeks. I'm 23 with combination skin that's a little more on the oily side and I've never really used a serious sunblock before; terrible, I know. I'd only slather on whichever SPF I was wearing on my body on really sunny days or days spent at the beach. But I decided I needed to find a serious sunblock to wear all the time under makeup, which seemed like it would be hard. This cost me ten bucks, not bad at all. The packaging is fantastic and portable. But best of all, MY SKIN LOVES THIS! It's so weird, because I'd been using a moisturizer that I thought my skin loved, but just a couple days of using this stuff and my skin looks and FEELS awesome. So soft and even-toned. This product looks so good under my Revlon Colorstay foundation, so much better than my old moisturizer! I get less oil slicks and it helps my foundation and concealer to look smoother and more natural! Insane. So far I love this stuff -- will update if that changes. But if you would like to wear a high SPF every day, give this a shot, regardless of skintype. It certainly surprised me!

Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder
pishtosh 6/15/2009 5:45:00 PM
Sorry to rain on this powder's parade, but I am not really all that impressed with it. I picked it up because it was on sale and I wanted a pressed powder to keep in my purse. I love the packaging, it's really clever, but I use a powder brush instead of the puff they provided. The powder itself doesn't give anywhere near the coverage of a foundation; I tried it with just concealer and my face looked really blotchy and unhappy. I'd say it gives very minimal coverage at best. And the finish isn't anything to write home about either; it doesn't get any less cakey than any other pressed powder I've used (MAC's Blot, CG, NYC, etc.) because it's texture isn't smooth enough, IMO. It doesn't keep me any matter than the others either. Very mediocre. Overall, I'd never repurchase this for its full price; I'd rather buy NYC's for under three bucks. I know I'm a bit of a loose powder snob (Marcelle's is what I'm using now and it's lovely) but still. I've tried better pressed powders for less money. No thanks, Maybelline.

Lipstick -Clinique - Almost Lipstick - Black Honey
pishtosh 4/28/2009 4:36:00 PM
Loveliest, most beautiful, most COMFORTABLE and most natural-looking nighttime lipcolour I have ever come across. One coat can be worn during the daytime, and just makes it look like your lips are naturally the prettiest shade of pink ever, or you can layer it for night. It never, ever looks unnatural though. Love, love, love. Will never stop buying and recommending.

Cleansers -Olay - Daily Facials Night Cleansing Cloths [DISCONTINUED]
pishtosh 4/28/2009 4:33:00 PM
As far as I can tell, these have been discontinued. Olay re-did their entire Daily Facials line, making the cloths a lot less scrubby; now instead they have little, smooth beads embedded in them. I loved these Night Cleaning Cloths more than any other end-of-the-day cleanser ever. They smelled lovely, really got all the gunk and makeup off my face and never broke me out. I will miss them dearly... sniff, sniff.

Fragrances -Thierry Mugler - Angel
pishtosh 4/28/2009 4:25:00 PM
51%?! Really?! I love the smell of this stuff more than I can properly express. It's expensive, so I rarely have a bottle of my own - (every couple of years) - but I love it. I love smelling like Angel, I love how many compliments I get while wearing it, I love how different it is, I love how STRONG it is and it's amazing lasting power and I love smelling it on other people. Hands down my favourite perfume ever.

Makeup Brushes -Quo - All Over Shadow
pishtosh 4/28/2009 4:12:00 PM
Great price for a great brush. Soft, washes up nicely, mine doesn't shed at all. I use this brush everyday to apply a wash of pale shadow from my lashes to my brow bone, so nothing too detailed. It's nice and flat; good for all-over colour. Over all, very pleased. Also it's held up great; been using it every day for 3 years.
