Styling Products -Alterna - Hemp Seed Texturizing Glaze
penh 5/27/2005 12:02:00 PM
Actually, I didn't purchase this product--it came as a sample with another hair care purchase I made through Ebay. This stuff is great for taming flyaways and frizzies on naturally curly/wavy hair. I have been alternating between allowing my curls/waves to come out just by air drying or using my FHI ceramic flat iron to straighten my hair. It's possible that my cuticles are still slightly sealed from when I ironed my hair and that's why I'm not seeing flyaways/frizzies. But, IMHO, I think it's worth a try for your curly/wavy hair. Probably works OK before straightening also. I'm impressed and I've been trying lots of stuff lately! The average online price seems to be about $16.00 or so, but you can probably get a deal on Ebay. Recommended. *UPDATE* 7-10-05: I want to pass on some advice to anyone considering highlights for their hair. I just had to purchase a tube of this wonderful Alterna Hemp Seed texturizing glaze for my unruly frizzies and flyaways. This stuff works better, IMHO, than Phytologie Frisant and a variety of other high-priced, high-tech concoctions out there. My advice about highlights is you might want to be very careful if you already have porous, curly, wavy hair that's dyed (not even bleached) on a regular basis. I let a control-freak, pushy, greedy hairstylist with at least 20 years of hairstyling experience browbeat me into getting highlights when I truly didn't want them. I resisted her for months. She kept saying how it would give dimension to my color and how I wouldn't look like "a helmet-head" with monotone brownish dyed hair. So I finally gave in and let her give me supposedly subtle highlights. They looked brassy from the get-go! Thanks to her, I now have to struggle with my frizzies like never before. In fact, I truly had only minimal frizzies, even in Louisiana humidity, before these stupid highlights. Not surprisingly, the only parts of my hair that are out of control are the sections this idiot highlighted; the rest is smooth, healthy and quite manageble. When I went back to her and wanted a slightly darker dye shade to get rid of the nasty brassy highlights she gave me, she had me sign a waiver saying that she's not responsible for how the color turns out because she recommended that I stay to the same ugly reddish-goldish-brown shade she likes instead of the more natural darker brown I preferred (this time DEFINITELY without highlights). This drama-queen BS again made me think that she must really know what she's doing with hair, so I stupidly let her stick to the same butt-ugly red-gold-brown color sans highlights (she has a thing for this nasty color) and again this color barely minimized the stupid highlights. To make matters worse she insists I sit under a dryer to open up the cuticles so the color supposedly absorbs faster and sets better. The chemicals from the hair dye, supposedly Redken products, made my eyes water. Long story now finally shortened: I stopped going to her several months ago. I truly thought that with her many years of experience and claims of expertise with curly hair that she was the right choice despite her pushiness and controlling attitude. But I finally got smart. Parting words: I would think long and hard about highlights, even if you have healthy hair to start off with--you might have to deal with frizzies and seek out expensive styling products like Alterna to cope with it. You will also probably need to do deep conditioning like I need to do now but never had to do before. Just my opinion. Thanks.

To me, Cinnabar is a kinder, gentler alternative to the heavy orientals like Opium, etc. A little goes a long way, though.

I think this is a fabulous EL fragrance--it more than makes up for nasty Youth Dew.

This is fabulous stuff, considering it's available at any drugstore and is reasonably priced. It leaves your skin clean and soft without stripping. Mild fragrance. Highly recommended.

I agree with reviewer "puckerup" that this is for the over 60 crowd. This stuff is so heavy and stinky. Very overrated. And, I'm not ageist!

It's a good product if you have oily skin or are looking to use a product during summertime that won't add to skin oiliness. I think it should be cheaper. I find it drying for wintertime use but my skin is becoming more fragile.

Lotions/ Creams -Avon - Skin So Soft- Moisture Boost Body Lotion - Soft & Sensual

Smells better than it moisturizes, but it does suffice as a moisturizer although it doesn't necessarily excel at it. Good product overall.

This is good stuff for the most part. A little long to absorb into the skin but otherwise quite nice.

I find this to be a great product as a hand/body lotion. I think it's too heavy for face, though. But it's emollient and suited best for winter use or possible light summer use. Good stuff overall.

Fragrances -Shiseido - Zen

I have yet to buy Zen but it is on my to-buy list because it is a unique, yummy fragrance. It's a good unique--not a bad unique like some strange, trendy fragrances out there. Highly recommended.
