Pressed Powders -Rimmel - Stay Matte Pressed Powder (ALL)
odanit 6/19/2007 9:22:00 PM
I am Asian and have a slightly tanned complexion, oily T-zone, some discolouration here and there. I have this in Sandstorm. I really like the texture of this powder as it doesn't look powdery on my skin. It actually does what it claims - has excellent oil control and longevity (yes, 5 hours indeed). However, I do have a few problems with this powder: 1. The colour matches my skin pretty well, however I do find it becomes darker / orange-y an hour after application. 2. The perfume-y scent bothers me. 3. The packaging is not practical and is cheap quality. 4. The quantity you get is actually a lot less than it seems. I have hit the bottom of the pan after a month which surprised me because the pan seemed a lot deeper when in actuality it is very shallow. This is misleading when you purchase the product, thinking you are getting a LOT of powder when really you are getting the same or even less product than in a generic compact. I will no longer repurchase this because I am now hooked on mineral makeup! Right now, I am using Physicians Formula Mineral Loose Powder in Buff Beige which significantly matches my skin better and doesn't have an annoying scent. However, shine control is not as good as Stay Matte powder.

Brows -Rimmel - Professional Eyebrow Pencil
odanit 6/19/2007 6:00:00 PM
BEST BROW TOOL EVER. Ok, I really love this eyebrow pencil. It definitely has HG status. I am Asian and my brows are black. Before this, I was using a Chanel trio brow kit for filling in the breaks at my arch, but it was just too big and bulky. I bought the Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Black with a little apprehension because I thought it would make my eyebrows TOO black (which often happens). As others have mentioned, the black is very soft and natural...almost a very dark brown. It's neutral - neither too grey or too brown so that it is reddish. It does not smudge or fade and can be applied effectively light or heavy. The brush on the cap is a wonderful bonus to for blending and tidying the brows. Lasting power is excellent.

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Color Riche Star Secret Aishwarya Beige
odanit 6/19/2007 5:47:00 PM
Aishwarya Beige did not work for me. I'm Asian with very pigmented lips. I found this lipstick too frosty and the colour, while subtle, did not look natural or healthy. My lips looked shiny but slightly grey. I'm not really impressed. The texture is great, but for colour, I like Maybelline's Moisture Extreme's nude shades a lot better.

Lip Gloss -New York Color - Kiss Gloss Cherry
odanit 5/24/2007 11:52:00 AM
This gloss makes my lips pop! It amplifies my already pigmented lips. I normally wear it alone. It's not so bad for a cheapy gloss, however I do find it a bit too sticky. I'm not so hot for the squeeze tube as it looks cheap and I tend to apply way too much. The scent annoys me slightly and makes my lips tingle (not good because I think I could be allergic to it). I'd have to say that overall this is an excellent gloss for the price. I probably won't repurchase as I haven't finished my tube yet and it's been a while!

Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - Color Juice Bubble Gum
odanit 5/24/2007 11:43:00 AM
Just FYI, I am Asian, slightly tanned, with very pigmented lips (brownish/purple-y...yuck!). This lipgloss turned out AWFUL on me. Like the previous reviewer, it had a milky look on my lips and made them look gucky and grey. I think it would probably work on someone with naturally paler lips and cool skin tone. Shade aside, I found the consistency too thick and gooey. This left buildup in the corners. I also found the smell too plastic-y. I find it hard not to over-apply this product.

Eye Shadow -Cover Girl - Eye Enhancers - Swiss Chocolate
odanit 5/23/2007 11:09:00 AM
I just bought this yesterday after trying my friend's and totally loving it. For some reason, my shade looks lighter than my friend's though and not as intense. It doesn't really look like chocolate to me...more like a bronze/suede. I've been looking for a pigmented deep metallic brown/bronze eyeshadow for the smokey look and thought this would be it, but alas, I'm slightly disappointed. I think if I try this wet it might work though. UPDATE: Ok, I tried this wet and it looks much more intense. I have upped it to four lippies and will repurchase until I find something better!

Lip Gloss -Estee Lauder - Pure Color Lip Vinyl
odanit 5/23/2007 10:34:00 AM
I have this in Vinyl Chic and absolutely LOVE it! The texture is creamy but the look is glossy (but not a lot) - indeed vinyl. The texture alone makes this a nearly HG lip gloss. This to me is more like a hybrid - a cross between a conditioner, balm, lipstick, and gloss. The look is very natural. I have very pigmented Asian lips so Vinyl Chic is sort of a MLBB nude look. I do think it is just a tad bit too brown/mauvey. Some people hate the scent (comparable to prunes?) but I LOVE it!! I have yet to try the other shades...the only thing holding me back is the price tag and the extremely small amount of product provided! It's so cute though!

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
odanit 5/23/2007 10:22:00 AM
This is my favourite mascara so far. I have short sparse Asian eyelashes but this mascara gives them drama. It is a very deep black. I do notice a bit of flaking and smudging though. However, eye makeup always smudges for me. I do find the mascara a bit too thick and goopy initially and then dries out significantly as others have stated. However, I use an age old trick that the cosmetic counters use: put a bit of gentle lotion (like Cetaphil) into the tube and mix it with your mascara (by swirling the wand around - do not pump the wand!). It will moisturize and thin your mascara as well as condition your lashes. This YSL mascara is my very expensive HG mascara so I try to maximize its life!

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipgloss - Nude Lustre
odanit 5/23/2007 9:58:00 AM
First of all, this is a FANTASTIC lipgloss, with one major personal downside, hence the poor overall rating, which I will explain. I was looking for a nude gloss to do the "dark eyes, pale lips" look and decided on Super Lustrous Lipgloss in 'Nude Lustre' because of the rave reviews. This lipgloss is indeed a great nude gloss that doesn't wash you out. The colour and coverage is just gorgeous. I really wanted this to work for me and wore it a few times in hopes that I was indeed mistaken. However, every time I wore this gloss, I would get a slightly tingly/itchy feeling on my lips. An hour later I would start getting a rash and my lips would become very irritated. If I'm around any allergens (such as cats), this would accelerate my allergic reaction, resulting in extremely swollen and painful lips. I already have big lips so this was not cool! My lips would stay swollen for atleast a day and the healing process would involve painful, dry, and scaling skin. I don't know what it is in the formulation that causes this reaction on my lips but it's so terrible that I had to sadly let this lipgloss go. The strange thing is, Super Lustrous Lipgloss in 'Glossy Rose' doesn't do this to me. I am so envious of anyone who is able to wear this shade as it is really my elusive HG nude gloss. EDIT: The new formulation with the gold band (instead of the old black band) works on me now! I am so happy. Five lippies and HG status.

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous lipgloss in Glossy Rose [DISCONTINUED]
odanit 5/23/2007 9:38:00 AM
Overall, a good lipgloss! I had previously tried Super Lustrous Lipgloss in 'Nude Lustre' but it gave me a severe allergic reaction (rash on lips, major swelling!). I really wanted Nude Lustre to work for me because the colour was exactly the look I was aiming for (dark eyes, pale lips) and worked great on top of my nude lipstick. Naturally, trying another shade from this line was a big risk in encountering another allergic reaction. However, it's been a day and I haven't had any problems with rash or irritation! The colour 'Glossy Rose' is exactly that: glossy and rosy. It's a very natural, juicy, innocent, baby look. I am SE Asian and have very pigmented lips so on me it is a my-lips-but-better wet look. The consistency isn't bad (my fav. consistency is still Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Gloss) and coverage is great. The only downside is the slight scent, but it goes away (or a I get used to it) after 5 minutes. Staying power isn't bad either! The packaging is classy (although I don't like how Revlon added the gold band). I will definitely repurchase if I don't find something better when I run out!

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Megaliner Liquid Eyeliner- Turquoise
odanit 7/25/2006 11:48:00 PM
Wow. Just utterly WOW. The colour is so intense and true. I love the small bottle and the applicator. I have tanned asian skin and tiny eyes but a small flick at the top outer corner of each eye just makes em dazzle! I am so glad I tried this!

Highlighters -Wet 'n' Wild - Silk Finish Blush in All Over Shimmer - 832D [DISCONTINUED]
odanit 7/25/2006 11:14:00 PM
I just bought this today after they finally restocked at the Walmart by my house. I have to say I am quite content with this product. I have tanned Asian skin and this works great for me. It's an exceptional highlighter for cheeks, eyes, anywhere. I have never tried any other highlighters before since I never felt the need to...however I was really surprised at how effective some subtle highlighting is! This is good stuff! I will definitely buy again! UPDATE: The key for this product is a LIGHT application. A heavy hand will make you overly shiny/artificial looking. I took away one lippy because my skin is less tanned now and for some reason this looks a teensy bit too white/grey/cool-toned on me. I think because my skin is less pigmented, this product shows up a lot more now and is a bit fake looking if I am not careful.

Eye Shadow -Annabelle - Eyeshadow #246 (Nugget)
odanit 7/3/2006 10:19:00 PM
As a blush, this is such a lovely medium peachy-rose colour with soft gold shimmer. As eyeshadow, it is a bit too rose for my tastes, but still great. I'm really blown away by this colour. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
odanit 7/3/2006 3:30:00 PM
I absolutely swear by Aspirin. I am Asian with combination skin. I have lots of black heads and the occasional white heads / pimples a week or so before that-time-of-the-month. I use Aspirin whenever my skin has blemishes, looks dull, or whenever I want my skin to look especially good for a particular event (read: hot date. haha). With regular use, I found my skin has actually improved - looking healthier and more radiant. Rather than use it as a mask, I use it more as a scrub in the shower. I dissolve 2 non-coated Aspirin tablets in my palm and mix in a gentle cleanser, such as cetaphil. Sometimes I don't add a cleanser at all. I massage this onto my face, focusing on any "problem" areas. Some people might consider the grits of Aspirin a little rough for their skin, but I like the scrubby feel. Aspirin does an excellent job exfoliating and evening out skin because of its ingredients. My skin feels silky and soft and actually shines - not from being oily, but from being so smooth...it's like the surface of my skin was buffed and polished. Another great thing about Aspirin is that it reduces inflammation - say good bye to puffiness! I no longer use any store-bought scrubs because I find they do not yield the same incredible results as Aspirin.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Apricot Scrub
odanit 7/3/2006 3:05:00 PM
This scrub didn't excite me. I wanted more exfoliation out of this. I didn't notice much of a difference in my skin after using this scrub, either for the better or worse. I wouldn't repurchase since my Aspirin scrub/mask works MUCH better and is my HG face treatment.
