Eye Shadow -BeneFit Cosmetics - Velvet eyeshadow- Leggy
marmaladecat 1/26/2011 6:14:00 PM
What a fab eye-shadow to receive as a pressie! :) 'Leggy' is a truly beautiful, silky-soft eyeshadow which just glides over the skin and has top-notch staying-power when applied over my Urban Decay Primer Potion. It shows up on me as a very pale shimmery peach colour, great for giving my eyes a bright, refreshed look. The shimmer is subtle, so the effect is really natural and fresh-looking. I think the colour is similar to Urban Decay's 'Sin' eyeshadow. I'm finding I'm using this a lot. I don't often wear bright eye-makeup and for everyday I prefer a natural look. All I need is 'Leggy' and a slick of clear or black mascara and I instantly feel polished! The package is cute as well as nice and sturdy. It's an expensive shadow but you do get a decent amount of it and it's such excellent quality that I will definitely re-purchase once mine has run out.LOVE IT! EDIT: Unfortunately, as someone else mentioned, my shadow crumbled too by being bumped about in my make-up bag. So the packaging is not as sturdy as I thought.Oh well, it's still useable!

Lotions/ Creams -Soap and Glory - The Righteous Butter
marmaladecat 1/15/2011 1:31:00 PM
Mmmm, heavenly! This is a gorgeously moisturising body butter which has a deliciously sweet floral scent. It leaves my skin feeling silky soft and smooth. I've particularly noticed the difference on my elbows which are prone to feeling quite rough-they're a lot softer since I started using this! The butter does smell very strong in the tub but once it's smoothed into the skin I find the scent milder. I moisturise with this in the evening but if you want to moisturise in the morning, I think the scent would probably clash with any perfume you may want to wear. The scent lingers for a decent amount of time which is lovely. This costs £10 in the UK which isn't cheap, but it does last a long time as the product is really rich so you don't need to slather loads on. Also, it may be worth bearing in mind that the rich formula may not be suitable to use every day or for every skin type. I use it maybe 3 times a week and I can still notice the benefit to my skin but because I can get spots with rich moisturisers, I ration my use!No breakouts so I'll continue using it as I'm doing. As I said though, it totally depends on your skin-I'm sure some people's skin will crave the richness! :) The retro-pink packaging is super-cute and I always feel very pampered and glamorous when I use this! A definite re-purchase when my current tub runs out.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Deluxe Eyelash Curler - metal
marmaladecat 1/14/2011 11:26:00 AM
This is a fab eye-lash curler :) It's not mega-cheap but it does come with I think 3 refill pads so it's very good value. The curler's really easy to hold and use; I've had no trouble pinching my eyelids or the pad coming out. The last couple of non-Tweezerman curlers I had often put a weird almost 90 degree kink in my lashes, but the Tweezerman curlers just create a lovely smooth natural-looking curve. Love it!

Lipstick -MAC - Retro Matte - Ruby Woo
marmaladecat 1/12/2011 3:49:00 PM
I tried Ruby Woo at the MAC counter after the assistant recommended it for my colouring (fair with cool undertones.) I wasn't enamoured with it. The colour was OK, not bad, but it didn't look like a true red on me at all. It had a lot of pink tinge and I don't think it really flattered my complexion even though apparently it's supposed to be great for cool-toned people. The thing I really hated though was the texture; it's extremely matte and felt very dry on my lips. It did not apply easily and I found it very chalky. However, I can imagine that it would be really long lasting as it wasn't easy to remove! I think definitely try before buying as I know it's a really popular colour and I know for some people it's perfect. I ended up getting MAC Red-MUCH better for me! :)

Fragrances -Donna Karan - Be Delicious
marmaladecat 1/9/2011 12:50:00 PM
This is a lovely perfume, one of my favourites. I love to wear it in the summer as it smells so light, fresh and crisp. I'm not an expert in scents, but when I initially wear it it smells really fruity and quite sweet on me- I can definitely distinguish apple and cucumber. The scent then develops into much more of a floral one and gets less sweet, but I can still smell a slight hint of fruit. The scent lasts a decent amount of time and you don't need a lot of it. The only reason I've taken off a lippy is I'd love it even more if the sweeter apple fruity scent lingered for longer as it's definitely my favourite smell in this mixture! Also, I find the bottle a bit awkward to hold in one hand and spray, although the design is very funky!

Blush -BeneFit Cosmetics - Georgia ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
marmaladecat 1/6/2011 12:13:00 PM
Cute packaging and nice scent. I like the delicate, very subtle peach tint it gives my fair skin but I think the powder just looks too shimmery on my face which I didn't expect as the powder in the box doesn't look sparkly. If the shimmer was more toned-down, I would buy it again in a heartbeat, but as it is, I wouldn't repurchase. Just to add, to echo some others, this is not a blush. It is too pale and the box says it's a face powder.

Blush -Urban Decay - Quickie Afterglow Blush
marmaladecat 1/4/2011 4:13:00 PM
My favourite blush and the one I seem to use all the time! It's a beautiful delicate rose colour with a bit of shimmer, but applied it looks so natural. I love that the colour is easily buildable and that it's really easy to apply.I have very fair skin and some blushers just look too harsh on me, but this is absolutely perfect.

Concealers -Laura Mercier - Secret Concealer
marmaladecat 1/2/2011 11:19:00 AM
I've had blue-ish circles under my eyes for as long as I can remember and have used lots of under-eye concealers over the years. This one's definitely the best I've tried! I have No.1 in Fair and find that the peach tone counteracts the dark circles really well and really brightens up my under-eye area nicely. The formula is very creamy and pretty thick, so you only need to use a little-less is definitely more.I dab it on after allowing my eye-cream to sink into my skin for a couple of minutes. Secret Concealer's got really good staying-power, I find I don't need to set it with powder. It can crease a bit, but I found that only happened to me immediately after applying, so all I do is pat it in a bit more and then my eyes are good to go!The only down-side for me is it's expensive for the amount you get, but you don't need to use loads at least.I only gave it 4 lippies because it doesn't TOTALLY eradicate the blue circles and it's pricey, but then again maybe I'm hoping for miracles! I will certainly keep buying it after my pot's finished though as it is fab.

Lip Gloss -Kiehls - Lip Gloss - Pink Rider
marmaladecat 12/20/2010 1:20:00 PM
Love Pink Rider! This gloss is a real treat to put on. It is a rosy pink colour with very subtle sparkles. It gives my lips just a hint of colour whilst still looking very natural. The sparkles give a bit of shine without looking OTT or fake. As others have mentioned, it does feel rather like a balm as the texture is quite thick, but it glides onto lips and is really long-lasting.My lips feel beautifully moisturised and smooth when wearing this. The balm has extracts of Mango, Grape Seed, Rosehips and Apricot Kernal which give it a nice fruity smell. It is pretty expensive at £13, but a little really does go a long way and I can tell it'll be ages before mine runs out, so I can live with the price! :) Highly recommend.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
marmaladecat 12/17/2010 7:16:00 AM
Fab product. Has a good fluid consistency which means it's easy to dab over the lid area without any dragging or rubbing but it 'sets' well immediately. My eyeshadow lasted brilliantly throughout the day without creasing. I never used to bother with primer before, but I will definitely continue to buy this one!

Shampoo -Batiste - Dry shampoo - Brunette
marmaladecat 12/15/2010 7:39:00 AM
My hair gets greasy the day after washing which is annoying! This dry shampoo is fab-I can get a couple more days out of my hair and the product adds a bit of volume to it too which is a bonus. The Brunette formula is a good match for my hair as you don't get the talc-like deposits you can get with other dry shampoos. I took a lippy off because although this stuff is not expensive, it gets used up really quickly, so you don't get lots of uses. I therefore don't use it lots, but it's great for times you may not have time to wash your hair or can't be bothered!

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
marmaladecat 12/15/2010 7:20:00 AM
I got this in 'Blackest Black' . I did not like this mascara at all and cannot understand the hype. I found it really watery and it didn't make much difference at all to my lashes, other than making them appear darker. It didn't hold a curl well either. I think maybe if you already have really long lashes and you're just looking for something which adds colour then maybe it's ok, but for anyone wanting the appearance of length or definition it's useless.I'm glad it didn't cost a lot as I'd have been gutted!

Liquid -Bobbi Brown - Skin Foundation SPF 15 (Porcelain [0])
marmaladecat 12/15/2010 7:08:00 AM
My search for the perfect foundation is over! I absolutely love this stuff. The Porcelain is the PERFECT match for my fair skin and it applies smoothly and evenly. It didn't cake at all or look blotchy and it lasted well. I used this for my wedding and the lady who did my make-up thought it was amazing too, saying she was definitely going to get some to use on her clients. The coverage is fairly light in my opinion so maybe it wouldn't be the best thing if you need heavier coverage, but it's worth a try at the Bobbi Brown counter! :)

Bronzers -Bourjois - Delice de Poudre
marmaladecat 12/15/2010 6:57:00 AM
I love this bronzer. I'm really fair so some bronzers can make my face look dirty, but this in Shade 51 is perfect on me. The powder gives a lovely natural-looking healthy colour, like you've just caught a little bit of sun (without the damage!)There are small light-reflecting particles in the bronzer which add a subtle glow.Smells gorgeously chocolate-y too. A real winner.

Palettes -Too Faced - Quickie Chronicles - The Heartbreaker
marmaladecat 11/22/2008 5:14:00 PM
The Heartbreaker is a pretty selection of soft peaches, pinks and browns. The colours complement each other beautifully and I think they would suit a wide range of people. I'd describe the colours as warm-neutral, perfect for adding that healthy glow to your face. I love how you can create a variety of different looks, from barely there to warmer. The eye-shadows are good quality and last well. I am not too keen on the darker pink-brown one as I think with my pale skin it makes my eyes look red and is not flattering, but the other two are perfect. I love the lip-glosses as they add a natural wash of colour and are a good consistency, and are buildable in colour. The blush is a very flattering dusky peach. I thought it would be too dark for me, but it blends beautifully into my skin and gives a lovely summery glow. It's a shame this has been discontinued as it's a lovely palette.
