Skincare - Body -LUSH - Mange Too massage bar
rated 2 of 5

This was my first LUSH purchace, and so far I'm kind of regretting it. I'd been dying to own something from LUSH for ages, but I could never bring myself to spend $10 on a small chunk of soap. I chose to buy a massage bar because I loved the idea of having a solid lotion. In the store, this smelt amazing, like yummy white chocolate, honey, caramel and touch of mint. After getting home and testing it out for about the last month, I've decided that I don't really like it. First off, the smell is STRONG. It's an overpowering powdery sweet scent, like the original scent x10. Secondly, this is barely moisturizing at all. All it seemed to do for me was leave my skin feeling oily with lots of shine. The look would be great for going out and making your legs look super smooth, but I'm afraid to leave the house with such a strong smell all over my body. Lastly, I'm not sure how to store this thing. I can't just leave it laying out, or it'll collect dust and get oil and stickyness all over. For nowI just wrap it up in the bag until I can think of something else. Though I still like the idea of a massage bar and it did seem to fufill the description, I'm just not a fan of the Mange Too. I will continue to check out other massage bars, but I will not buy this one again.

Shampoo -TRESemme - Smooth & Silky Shampoo for Dry or Damaged Hair with Vitamin H
rated 2 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 2/4/2010 7:45:00 PM

I bought this giant bottle for around $4 at Walgreens. I figured it was a great value, especially considering the size of the bottle. I have straight hair that's on the dry side, and it tends to get frizzy, so I chose this one over the others. To me this is just an average shampoo. I am not noticing any change in moisture and frizz in my hair and if anything, it's gotten more dry. I was surprised with the consistancy of this shampoo --it's a known fact that creamy shampoos are moisturizng and gel shampoos are more for oil control, so the gel consistancy threw me a little. The smell seems cheap to me as well, like super sweet apples, but luckily it goes almost undetectable when you get out of the shower. Packaging is okay, but since it's such a big bottle I would recommend getting one with a pump as opposed to the flip cap, it's more convienent when you need to get a squirt of product out. I wouldn't buy this product again.

Lip Treatments -Avon - Basics Care Deeply with Aloe Lip Balm
rated 5 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 1/26/2010 6:11:00 PM

HG lip balm for sure! I will never spend money on another lip balm again ---this one exceeds all of my expectations and more! It's super moisturizing (especially on someone like me who licks her lips every two seconds :P) plus it has no scent or flavor. I love the texture of this too --not to greasy (think Vasaline) but not to hard (think brand-new Chapstick.) This is the perfect combo of solid and creamy. I always carry one with me, and for just .99 cents I can afford to go through these as fast as I do. Amazing product, way to go Avon!

Self Tanners -Nivea - Sunkissed Skin Firming Gradual Tan (body)
rated 4 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 1/24/2010 12:40:00 PM

I have tried a few self tanners before this one (Jergans Natural Glow, Neutrogena Sunkissed, L'Oreal... etc.) but this one beats all of them by far! First off, this one does not reek of a self tanner scent as it seems to be overpowered by a citrus-y beach scent. (After about a half an hour the scents subside and it becomes unscented.) I had originally bought this to get a subtle glow before my vacation, so I purchased this in the medium to dark formula to see quicker results. After only three days of use I noticed that I was at least a few shades darker and my skin was noticably softer and smoother. I ended up with a gorgeous glow before my vacation, and I continue to use this to keep my tan. The application was very even-- never streaky or orange, so overall I was satisfied with my summer-y glow. I took off one lippie because this didn't seem to be worth the price considering how thin the bottle is. I will continue to use and buy this product because it is extremly moisturizing and leaves you with a great looking tan!

Styling Products -TRESemme - Anti-Frizz Secret Smoothing Creme
rated 2 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 1/9/2010 10:44:00 AM

This product didn't do a whole lot for me. I tried this out on both dry and wet hair, and I didn't notice much of a difference either time. When applied to wet hair, this does help keep hair somewhat straighter than before, but as it dries all it does is frizz up again. When applied on dry hair this was a little thick and greasy. I tried smoothing this over my fly-aways, but it wouldn't hold them down! I would try to add more product, but that would only weight down my hair and make it look greasy. Also, the smell is very strong -- it remindes me of apple/cherry kool-aid. I now use John Frieda Frizz Ease products as this one did not do the trick!

Polishes -Essie - Mint Candy Apple
rated 3 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 1/7/2010 4:54:00 PM

This is not the right color for me. This seafoam green just made my skin look a little sickly and didn't seem right for nails. Ulta had this marked at half off, so I bought it on a whim, and I'm kind of regretting my purchase. This has lots of shine and a great pigmentation, but I wish it had just a hint of shimmer or something to give it a little more deapth. This is only my second day wearing it and I haven't really experienced any tip wear yet, but I think I'll take it off my nails tonight because it just doesn't look right. The polish itself is of great quality, but I'm really not liking the color.

Powder -Maybelline - Mineral Power Powder Foundation
rated 4 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 1/7/2010 4:50:00 PM

I really like how this gives me a natural air-brushed coverage. When I wear this it doesn't feel to heavy, and I'm not worried about it melting off during the day. A major plus for me is the fact this controls any oils on my skin and has SPF to protect it from the suns rays. I purchased this in light, the lightest shade they had, and it is just a tad to dark for me. The only thing I would change about this is the fact that the packaging tends to get a little annoying. I tried to travel with this and all of the powder from the bottom came through and got stuck on top. Also, when you run out of product in the top part of the container you have to spill it around until you get somemore ---a task that can get very tedious. All in all though, I think this is one of the best drugstore powder foundations there is. ***EDIT**** Somehow my skin has gotten more oily, and this powder doesn't seem to keep the shine and oils away. I still love everything about it that I mentioned before, but don't buy this thinking that it'll reduce shine.

Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - Lipslicks in Clear
rated 5 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 1/7/2010 4:42:00 PM

My local pharmacy had this on sale for a little over $2, so I bought it thinking that even if I didn't like it I wouldn't be wasting a load of money. At first I figured it wouldn't be all that great, as it was an older product in Covergirl's line and it didn't seem as popular. But after testing this out for about 3 weeks, I can honestly say, I'm in love. I now use this product everyday, either as a base for lipsticks or lipgloss, or on it's own for just a little extra moisture and shine. In fact, I find myself reaching for this more often then my favorite lip balm. Though it doesn't give you any color, it does provide a nice shine and moisture that lasts for hours. This also helps my lipsticks on more evenly and tends to give the product a more expensive pigmented look. I will repurchase as long as Covergirl continues to make this!

Polishes -China Glaze - Cherry Pie
rated 4 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/16/2009 8:13:00 PM

I bought this for around $3 on clearence at Ulta so this was a steal! I am in love with this color for the times when you want a bright look-at-me orangey red. This is one of those flashy red colors with added orange shimmer. The color sort of reminds me of a blazing fire. I'm not a huge fan of the consistancy as it was verry runny, but it was surprisingly opaque after 2 coats. Great shine on this as well.

Top/Base Coats -Sally Hansen - Insta-Dri
rated 5 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/14/2009 5:54:00 PM

I was surprised by how fast this dried! I am usually very impatient when painting my nails and am forced to endure up to an hour of drying time on a typical nail day. Now I am able to move about freely without have to worry about nicks in the nail. This dries to the touch in about 1 minute flat and has a resistance to nicks after about 5 minutes! I am thrilled with the mirror-like shine that this produced as well. The only down side is the fact that this doesn't hold up as well to wearing on the tips. Though Seche Vite might dry a tad faster, I have to say that saving $4 and not having my polish shrink is a pretty good trade off. Will buy again.

Lip Gloss -Clinique - Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Raspberry
rated 5 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/12/2009 7:22:00 PM

I don't agree with the reviewers who say that this lipgloss smells strange...I've used this for years and have never had an issue with the scent. I adore the consistancy and color payoff of this product --super glossy and non-sticky, great tint/flush of color to the lips. This usually last a few hours when worn by itself (which is pretty good for a lip-licker like me) and provides great moisture to the point where I don't need a lip balm as often. Raspberry is the only color I've tried because I never really got around to testing out other shades, and I must say, this is my HG bright red lip gloss. I will continue to buy and rave about this product.

Polishes -OPI - done out in deco
rated 4 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/11/2009 10:29:00 PM

Application: -First coat is streaky -Fairly opaque by the second coat Wear: -Use a good topcoat, it tends to chip easier Opinion: -Not really a good color for my skin tone --- it looked a little sickly on me. I'm starting to wish I bought "Do You Lilac It?" becuase that won't look as dirty on me. I love OPI nail polishes, but a went a little wrong when choosing this color. If this is a color you really want, you'll love it.

Self Tanners -Neutrogena - Sun Fresh
rated 1 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/11/2009 10:23:00 PM

This product is a definite 'no' for me. I got virtually zero color. This product also reeks of that wreched self tanner scent. I agree with the reviewer below me when she says "it smells like all the other tanners but poorly hidden by a faint fruit smell." Neutrogena attempted to cover up the self tanner scent, but to me, it only adds to and brings out the overall gross scent of the product. Waste of money. End of story. Will update if a sudden miracle occurs with this prodcut.

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow - Light
rated 2 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/11/2009 10:17:00 PM

Not really a fan of this. Granted, it did give me a little bit of a light glow, but I was expecting a little more color. Some of the product got onto the cap of the bottle, and the next time I used it I saw just how yellow-y the product turned. Being a very fair gal, I'd rather look a little more orange than yellow, because orange at least gives a little substance. Now I am stuck with a some what sickly yellow "glow". To me, it's not worth walking around and reeking of that self tanner scent ---I guess I'll just be a little paler from now on. **I will try the medium to dark version of this product to see if the color payoff is any better

Lip Gloss -MAC - Cherry Blossom Lipglass
rated 5 of 5
majormakeupmaniac 12/6/2009 5:29:00 PM

I bought this on a whim at my CCO today because I loved the color and I figured I wouldn't be able to find it anywhere else. Now that I am home and I've been experiementing with it, I'm super glad I bought it. This is the perfect warm baby pink color with just a touch of golden pink shimmer. It's neutral while still being girly! (The picture shown above is actually a little darker than the actual color.) The scent of this is another plus --it's like a vanilla extract/cookie dough scent which is actually quite lovely. The consistancy is a little on the thick side, so it's a little more opaque than the sheer look of most MAC lip products. I think that I'm going to buy a backup just in case, becuase I have a feeling I'm going to be wearing this a lot. Perfect for anyone who is looking to for a simple and sweet gloss that will go with anythings --it is sweet enough for a date and neutral enough for school/work. Will buy again if it is still available!
