Palettes -Jane - Eye Zing Carry Along - Browns

I love this very practical palette. Sometimes I forget I have it, but everytime I rediscover it, I'm so happy that I bought it (BOGO so I think I only paid 2.50 for this one, and the other one was Hollywood which is also a nice warm browns/greens quad) My favorite color is Sungloss which doesn't have anything to do with sunny but more a purplish taupe, a great neutral that highlights my brown eyes w/o being to OTT for work, so a good neutral on its own. I use that and goldie locks the most. When I have time to use more than one shadow, I use Dream Cream to highlight (another basic matte to use for work). I don't use Browny Points too much just cuz I tend not to use dark shades but I think for a smokey eye/evening look this would totally intensify it! I'm thinking about taking this quad for a spin the next time I take a trip, it's that good (I usually have to bring multiple palettes on a trip just cuz I like the variety) A totally great drug store find for such a great price! All the colors are true to the pan and stay on great w/my UDPP.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner in Black
rated 4 of 5
maitai215 8/7/2008 2:15:00 AM

i like this. it was my first foray into gel eyeliner and i could see why ppl like it more than pencil or liquid. i just don't like having to use another brush, one more thing to clean. i think the depth and trueness of the black is great and it lasts quite a long time (i do use udpp primer on the lid) but it can last a long night of partying w/o smudging. i don't really like the glass container as i find it quite heavy and bulky and makes it less transportable. i find that for travel, a pencil liner is still the easiest way to go. i also have this in eggplant which i actually use more often for a pop of color!

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Colorstay 12-Hour Eyeshadow -General
rated 2 of 5
maitai215 8/7/2008 2:12:00 AM

I got this in starlight cuz Revlon was BOGOF and I was going to go pick up a Revlon colorstay eyeliner anyways (HG). it looked so pretty and I thought all the light pastels had a slight shimmer so they looked like good highlight or wash colors for the summer. but all 4 shades end up looking quite chalky and essentially the same color (even though in the pan they look like a light lavendar, light pink, light beige, and another light non descript color). not only are the 4 colors the same, i think the shimmer is a spray cuz when applied it doesn't look shimmery at all! so in order to use this, i have to put vanilla pigment to add a touch of sparkle or else the eyeshadow is totally flat. so not flattering. and what's the point of having 4 of the same chalky color? i still use it if i need a matte highlight at the brow but that's not too often.

Eyeliner -Jane - Be Pure Mineral Gel Eyeliner
rated 5 of 5

i got these bogo1/2 at rite aid and have been using them almost daily. i got brown and navy (i have black and plum from HiP) so I thought these were good for variety. the brown is so dark that it almost looks black to me and I think it's a good work neutral (i have black hair, brown eyes, medium asian complexion). i generally tight line during the day and go for a thicker swoop of liner for night time. i love how these stay on all day w/o smudging. if i put it on the bottom line, it may smudge a little from regular lacrimation but nothing too excessive. i do notice that since it's a rather gel like consistency and not as thick as HiP that I have a bit more time during the application process to smudge the liner as desired if i'm going for a smokier look. I love this and the great price! of course I think this is plenty to last me a long time assuming they don't dry out!

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Ped Egg
rated 5 of 5
maitai215 7/13/2008 11:47:00 PM

I have only used this once and I love it! I think it does a much better job than the pedicure filing I got at a professional salon. I think they did only a cursory filing with a straight file for about 5 minutes. I spent 5 minutes on my feet w/the Ped Egg and they are so much smoother around the heels and my calluses are thinner. I am not inclined to try to remove the entire callus in one go, so I will continue to use this weekly until my feet are smooth and I may use it every other week for maintenance. The box came with an order form to get refill files that look cheaper than buying a new Ped Egg, but since it's so inexpensive anyways ($10 at BBB), I don't think replacing a part or the entire thing is that big of a deal. I love it and will totally be adding to this my beauty regimen!

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Huggable Hangers and Ultra Slim Flocked Hangers
rated 4 of 5
maitai215 7/13/2008 11:42:00 PM

I bought 2 boxes of the BBB k/o cuz I moved into a smaller apt with less closet space (I went from having a walk in, 1 coat closet and another regular closet to just having 1 regular closet and 1 coat closet) I was able to put most of my stuff from 3 closets into those two! I may have to get more hangers, but I love the uniformity and the amount of space I save. I also like how my silky tops don't slip around b/c the flocking makes a very non-slip surface. It just takes a little bit longer to hang up and remove an item in order for it to be hung in proper shape cuz the material won't slide around on it. I've had these for less than a week so I don't know if they're durable, and I still bought about 10 plastic tubing hangers for when I drip dry something (I'm pretty sure you can't get the huggables wet) but it is so worth the extra price! Regular plastic hangers cost about $1.50 for 10. So to get 100 would be $15. I got 100 huggable k/os at BBB for about $66 ($40/50 hangers but w/20% coupon for each). So the difference is about $50. But I think the organization makes it so worth it! I will keep buying more with BBB coupons (they always have them). Note, I also bought the clip on skirt hangers so I can hang my skirts up. Also note that I intend on keeping the boxes they come in as I find it was nicely packed and in case I move, I will be bringing these babies with me as I consider organizing my clothes an investment in my sanity! update: my wardrobe has expanded and i have since bought another box, so now i have 150 hangers! i really should get rid of some of my clothes!

Loose Powders -Everyday Minerals - Silk Dust (Untinted ) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
maitai215 6/23/2008 8:58:00 PM

I've used this for about a week w/o problems. I've been using it as a base to apply before I use my edm matte ftd and concealer (in that order). I find that it does make my face quite matte and reduces the need for blotting thru out the day. it also essentially eliminates the need for a silicone based primer (smashbox photofinish) although i still use this on the t zone before the silk dust if i think i'll be out all day/night or will be esp. hot and sweaty. the silk dust is essentially colorless, and provides no coverage, just a matte base to apply color. i have had no skin reactions thus far but will update if otherwise. so far i love it! i bought it part of the 12 item custom kit so it worked out to be <$5 each which is a great deal for the large amt you get. a light dusting is all you need!

Fragrances -Fresh - Memoirs of a Geisha
rated 5 of 5
maitai215 5/27/2008 10:44:00 PM

I get compliments everytime I wear this. It is a light floral mix that has a heady underlying scent that after your heat dissipates the lighter notes, comes to an intoxicating residual. I think guys in particular like it because it starts off as innocent and sweet but suggests so much more (I think they like girls that are like that too!) I think the scent is a tad too strong to wear during the day for a conservative work environment, I save it for nights out or dates.

Concealers -Everyday Minerals - Multi-tasking Concealer
rated 4 of 5
maitai215 5/27/2008 10:42:00 PM

I have been using this with my EDM ftd in matte texture for sometime and have repurchased b/c it is a great coverage concealer even though it only comes in 1 shade. I mix a lil w/my ftd to make sure it's closer to my skin color (it is a tad bit lighter than my actual skin color) It pats on well and has full coverage even though it's a powder (how do they do that?) I put it around my redness around my nose, my dark gray undereye area, and various hyperpigmented spots from acne. Shocking! It looks dry for the first 15-30 min, but once my natural oils (greasy!) in my skin get to work, my skin looks polished and well blended in an hr and the coverage stays put for the whole day until I shower and then use a toner to get it off! This mineral stuff really sinks in! But since there's only about 4-5 non-comedogenic ingredients, I don't think this has aggravated my sensitive acne prone skin at all. Great buy for $6/for 6gm jar (when purchased in the 6 item custom kit for $32 for 6 items)

Powder -Everyday Minerals - Foundation Matte Formula
rated 5 of 5
maitai215 5/27/2008 10:34:00 PM

I have been wearing this faithfully for over 2 yrs since I've discovered this brand via MUA. Before that I thought I would turn away from full coverage cream liquid foundation for full coverage. But now thanks to EDM, I can just swirl, tap, and buff into happiness and even skin! I have ordered several sample kits and several full size kits (I usually get the 6 full items for $32 kit) I have purchased full size kits at least 3 times, that's how much I like this product! I think a kit of 3 foundations, 2 powders and 1 concealer can last me more than a yr. I am rather careless with it cuz it's loose powder and hence rather messy in the sink, but I don't care! For the price of about $6 for 8gram size jars (the cost per jar if you get the 6 item kit), you get enough foundation to last you for at least 6 months. I am a medium colored Asian, and have tried Winged Butter, Golden Medium and Beige Neutral and they all look the same on the skin! So not sure if the differences are only apparent when densely packed into the jar, cuz on the skin the color variations are not perceptable to me or my friends. I have not been so bold to try to wear a different color on each side of my face however. I use lavendar powder as a neutralizing base for special occasions (if I have time for the extra step) and multi-purpose concealer for covering up dark spots, zits and under eye circles. I love it!

Lip Gloss -NYX - NYX 111 Lollipop
rated 5 of 5
maitai215 5/27/2008 10:28:00 PM

I love this color! As described previously, it is a coral peach and goes on very naturally, but leaning towards the warm side (may not suit cool skin color but I am neutral leaning towards warm) and I think it's beautiful. I wear it with a lot of gold and bronze color eyes for summer time. I think the consistency is great and wears like iron. And so cheap! For this price, I can afford to keep one in every place (work, bag, home) I reach for it a lot when needing a generic gloss that will go with everything else I'm wearing if I don't have time to hunt for a specific color.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Toffee
rated 5 of 5
maitai215 4/17/2008 2:31:00 AM

A simple neutral taupe that is perfect for a crease color for a neutral eye. I use it as a crease color on it's own, or sometimes i blend a colored eyeshadow on the outer corner and blend it into the toffee color in the center and inner lid in order for a peek of color to show when my eyes are open for a twist on a basic. i always highlight with a shimmery color on the brow bone and line with black gel liner.

Palettes -Too Faced - Love Lisa Beauty Battle Box
rated 4 of 5
maitai215 4/12/2008 6:19:00 PM

I love this product. Found it at local TJ Maxx for $5 and it's a simple neutral day palette I use for work. I use the light butter yellow shadow as highlight (or pink on other days) and then the taupe shade on the crease (it has some shimmer in the pan, but not that sparkly on the lid) and the brown in the crease. I also like the pink lipgloss, it is very light and not too sticky, although because it is so light, I find the color doesn't last that long. (I don't really re-apply during the day) The highlighter/blush is a bit too light for me (I wear golden medium in EDM) but I use it as highlighter on top of a regular blush (right now I'm loving EDM chit chat) I just blend the highlight/blush shades onto a big fluffy brush and brush across my cheeks and tip of my nose for glowy look. I love it for photos! Such a great price for a great travel palette!

Blush -Pout - Blossom Belle
rated 4 of 5
maitai215 2/27/2008 11:48:00 AM

A light subtle peachy color, a bit more shimmery than Apricot Totty I think. I love it for a natural glow. Apply with a light hand as this blush as with all other Pout blushes is very pigmented! (I use to use EDM Siesta for a similar look). The only thing I've noticed is that Pout blushes don't last as long on my oily cheeks as some other brands (mainly EDM and TF). I think if I used a cream or gel blush underneath it will help.
