Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Borba--Fiber-Knit Concentrate Age Defying-Acai

I saw them hocking this treatment on QVC and then I found it in my local Ulta, so I decided to give it a try. Nothing special if you ask me, plus I broke out on my chin after several days of use. Back to Ulta it went. I much prefer Kinerase C6 Intensive Peptide Treatment (even though it's twice the price).

Lipstick -Laura Mercier - Stickgloss in Black Orchid
rated 3 of 5
macompanick 3/26/2007 7:04:00 PM

I'm on the fence about this lipstick/gloss combo. I really want to like it, but the color comes out too pink on my lips. Also, I find the formula surprisingly drying. I won't be buying it again, but I'll keep the tube I have and see how much mileage I get out of it (probably won't use it again until the fall).

I bought this home color kit in #80 - Medium Blonde and applied it to my dark blonde hair. It turned it red!! Suffice it to say that I am not happy and I will never buy Colorist again!!

Tinted Moisturizer -Stila - Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
macompanick 1/30/2007 9:12:00 AM

I really liked the color (Light), but I broke out on my forehead, cheeks and chin after about a week of use. I think the coverage is closer to foundation than tinted moisturizer, so this may be a good option for gals looking for something with "in between" coverage. However, I'll stick to products clearly labeled "noncomedogenic." Back this goes!

Concealers -Laura Mercier - Secret Camouflage
rated 3 of 5
macompanick 1/30/2007 9:10:00 AM

I got jazzed about this product afte reading LM's book Flawless Face. Unfortunately, I think Secret Camouflage is unnecessary and aimed at someone with more of an artistic touch than me. It made my skin look very cakey. Not something I need for everyday use, so I'll be returning it.

Tinted Moisturizer -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer Fair to Light
rated 4 of 5
macompanick 1/15/2007 7:50:00 PM

I've been trying to cut back on my make-up spending, so I bought this tinted moisturizer based on the positive MUA reviews. I'm fortunate to have basically problem-free skin (knock wood), and sometimes foundation just seems to heavy to me (especially with my heavy hand). I didnt' want to drop a wad on an unproven product, so I tried CG Smoothers in Fair to Light. I've nearly used up an entire tube and have purchased a scond. My only gripe is that the color may be a bit too light, even for my fair skin. I may try the Light to Medium shade, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it'll be too dark for me. I also may switch my powder, but I digress. This is a solid product for the price, though I'd never wear it without a dusting of powder - on it's own, my skin would be too shiny for my taste.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose
rated 4 of 5
macompanick 1/15/2007 7:33:00 PM

I believe Hypnose has replaced my previous HG - Vincent Longo Volume Riche. It's a tad less expensive and you get a much larger package for the price. My lashes come out great every day with this mascara - I get excellent volume, length and curl (though I'm most concerned about the volume). It takes a lot for me to purchase a mascara twice, but I plan to buy Hypnose again. Why mess with a great thing!?! UPDATE: Vincent Longo had a sale thru Lucky Magazine, so I again purchased Volume Riche mascara and it beats out Hypnose for volume. Taking off one lippie.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Volume Exact [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
macompanick 1/15/2007 7:25:00 PM

I've just discovered that I'm not a fan of mascaras with rubber bristles. I tried Lash Exact and it did very little for my wimpy lashes. After reading the reviews about Volume Exact, I had high hopes, but I was again disappointed. There was definitely more volume than Lash Exact, but the rubber brush makes my lashes so stick straight (I do not curl my lashes before applying mascara). It might be an okay weekend look, but I need more drama than this product can provide. EDIT: I gave this mascara another try and I'm actually impressed at the volume it provides, with no clumping. I bumped up my review from 2 to 4.

Loose Powders -Vincent Longo - Loose Face Powder
rated 2 of 5
macompanick 12/17/2006 9:38:00 AM

I bought this powder in Golden Banana, but returned it after only a few weeks of use. $40 buys you an incredibly small amount of product. It's just not worth it, as the powder was average at best.

Mascara -Almay - One Coat Nourishing Mascara Triple Effect
rated 3 of 5
macompanick 12/10/2006 11:13:00 AM

I thought this mascara was okay when I first started using it, but it began to apply weird after about 2 weeks of use. If you're looking for a curling mascara, this may be for you, but it's not for me. I really don't like mascara brushes with the long and short bristles. Just too difficult and time-consuming!

Cleansers -Kinerase - Gentle Daily Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
macompanick 11/25/2006 11:13:00 AM

I received a sample of this cleanser from Sephora and liked it so much that I purchased the full-size product. $30 is a bit expensive but I figure my skin is worth it! I like the fact that this cleanser lathers but that it's still gentle. I'm a skeptic and you'll never fully convince me that non-lathering cleansers (e.g., Cetaphil and Meaningful Beauty) get your skin 100% clean. In any case, Kinerase is gentle, thorough and I've gotten no break-outs from using it. As colder weather approaches in NJ, my skin is a teeny bit dry after washing at night (although it never feels tight), but a light moisturizer (La Roche Posay Toleraine Cream Normal/Combo) takes away any dryness. I'll keep using this as long as I can afford it!

Treatments -Clairol - Herbal Essences None Of Your Frizzness Smoothing Leave-In Creme
rated 4 of 5
macompanick 11/25/2006 10:59:00 AM

In the past I've shied away from leave-in treatments fearing they'd weigh down my hair. However, I'm most pleased with this product. I have naturally curly hair but fortunately, frizz is not a major problem for me. However, this cream does smooth my curls and make them glossier (shine is usually a major challenge for girls with curls). Thanks to this cream, my curls are bouncy, shiny and looking better than they have in some time! One bottle has lasted close to 2 months, so it's quite a gem for the price!

Styling Products -Clairol - Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Mousse
rated 5 of 5
macompanick 11/25/2006 10:49:00 AM

I'll soon be on my third can of this mousse, so I'm definitely pleased with it! I have a whole regimen for my shoulder-length, naturally curly hair that includes mousse, frizz cream and gel, and this mousse can't be beat! It gives nice curl formation and good lift at my roots. The can is easy to handle and the mousse itself leaves no lingering, overpowering scent. I tend to have a heavy hand, so I go through the product quickly, but at less than 4 bucks a pop, I have no problem repurchasing every 3 or 4 weeks.

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Hydraphase XL SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
macompanick 11/25/2006 10:38:00 AM

I really and truly wanted to like this product, as it supposedly offers the best sun protection. Unfortunately, I broke out after using it for only a few days. I'll be returning it. :(

Pressed Powders -Rimmel - Stay Matte Pressed Powder (ALL)
rated 2 of 5
macompanick 11/10/2006 1:51:00 PM

I've only been using this powder a few days (Translucent shade) and I'm not too keen on it. Is it me or is this powder very difficult to apply? I use a powder brush and it seems like the brush picks up no color at all... I have to work harder at applying this powder than BE mineral foundation! Plus, the mattifying effect wears off after about 2 hours (not the promised 6). It's jut not worth the effort. I think I'll return this one.
