Cleansers -M Lab - Anti-Aging Cleanser
rated 3 of 5
lchoe 1/15/2010 8:20:00 AM

M Lab Anti-Aging Cleanser ($60 for 6 oz): Formulated with 45% clinically active ingredients. A tri-active blend of refined cleansing agents, moisture-locking components and free radical inhibitors effectively remove environmental impurities, hydrate, soothe and calm the skin. Description: Anti-Aging Cleanser is designed to cleanse, hydrate, soothe and calm the skin. Soy bean extract and ceramides work together to moisturize, firm and reinforce the skin's natural barrier. Willowherb extract, camellia sinensis extract and tocopheryl acetate soothe and calm the complexion while wrapping it in extreme antioxidant protection to help reduce free radicals on the skin's surface. Hydrolyzed algin, sea water and chlorella vulgaris extract lock in moisture to prevent dehydration, thereby restoring natural color tones and smoothing the complexion. The skin is left beautifully cleansed, moisturized and prepared for further treatment. Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Methyl Gluceth-20 Benzoate, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Castoryl Maleate, Olea Europaea Oil, Stearic Acid, DEA Cetyl Phosphate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polysorbate 60, Phenoxyethanol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Stearate, Squalane, Caprylyl Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Hydroxide, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Fragrance, Glycine Soja Extract, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Epilobium Angustifolium Extract, Ceramide 2, Hydrolyzed Algin, Linum Usitatissimum Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis Extract, Salvia Officinalis Extract, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Moris Aqua, Linalool, Limonene, 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzene) Propionaldehyde, Sodium Hyaluronate. What did this all translate for me? Like the other M Lab Products I tried (Serum, Cream, Eye Cream), this cleanser was nice with a luxurious texture and lovely scent, nothing offensive however after use, I found my skin was soft but looked dull and lacked radiance. There is nothing about this cleanser that I'd want to keep or buy. Frankly the following cleansers gave me soft cleansed skin with much more radiance and brightness than the M Lab Cleanser: MD Forte's Cleanser II or III, DHC's Olive Oil Cleanser and Clarins' Gentle Foaming Cleanser. I am Korean, 43 years old. I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). I use: Natura Bisse, Perricone, Jurlique, Jan Marini, Cosmedicine, DHC Olive Oil Cleanser, and MD Forte Cleanser II & III.

Lotions/ Creams -Jergens - Shea Butter Skin Enriching Moisturiser
rated 4 of 5
lchoe 1/15/2010 12:42:00 AM

I needed to find a top notch drugstore body lotion/cream for my very dry skin and thanks to MUA I tried: Curel Ultra Healing, Curel Continuous Comfort Lotion Fragrance Free and the Jergens Shea Butter Skin Enriching Moisturizer. My favorite high end body moisturizer, Bliss's Body Butter in Lemon & Sage was getting too pricey for 2x a day. - The Curel Continuous Comfort Lotion was too sticky for my taste. - I tested Jergens Shea Butter Lotion vs. Curel Ultra Healing Lotion by using each on one leg . I really wanted to keep the Jergens Shea Butter as I liked the scent and the list of ingredients more. - For my legs that are as dry as an elephant's, the Curel Ultra Healing leg won hands down over Jergens Shea Butter (my Jergens leg had some dry flakes, did I mention my legs are dry?). - The good news is that the Curel Ultra Healing lotion is not sticky, dries pretty quickly and the scent is neutral. Body Shop's Body Butters are nice but take too long to dry. Even Kiehls' Creme de Corps doesn't moisturize enough for me! I am very impressed with the Curel Ultra Healing lotion and my dry skin is very happy with this.

Moisturizers -Jurlique - Moisture Replenishing Day Care Cream
rated 5 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 11:56:00 PM

I ADORE this moisturizer and like the reviewer below me, this cream has been a HUGE help during this cold winter. NYC has been extremely cold this winter and this moisturizer is extremely moisturizing, comforting, and soothing yet this cream is NOT greasy and upon application, my skin immediately looks more RADIANT and "BRIGHT, Lit from Within" after using this (amazing quality/result of most Jurlique products). For more comfort, I layer the Calendula Cream on top of this (again, NYC has been extremely cold this winter). With the cold whipping winds, I will literally get red chapped cheeks (like a baby) and this is the only tolerable cream that has helped minimize the chapping as well as soothing the chapped cheeks. I vacationed in St. Lucia in December and I also enjoyed this cream at night to make sure my face was pampered after too much sun & salt water (and to ensure no peeling). You only need 1 or 2 pea size balls for your face (warm up with your fingers and press into your skin) so this 1.4 oz tube lasts a very long time. I could do without the slightly floral scent but with these results, I don't mind :-). The only other product I have found that is actually more moisturizing (yet doesn't brighten :-( is Cosmedicine's Private Nurse. Moisture Replenishing Day Cream What it is: A rich, restorative moisturizer. What it is formulated to do: Jurlique's Moisture Replenishing Day Cream nourishes the skin with intensive hydration for all day defense against dryness. What it is formulated WITHOUT: - Parabens - Synthetic Fragrances - Synthetic Dyes - Petro-Chemicals - Phthalates What else you need to know: This rich moisturizer is infused with the living energy of calendula and chamomile, and precious plant oils of rosehip and avocado, to give the skin a balanced, radiant, healthy-looking glow. Active Ingredients: -Avocado: A rich oil containing beneficial fatty acids to nurture the skin and protect it from moisture loss and dehydration. It rebalances dryness and comforts delicate skin. -Rosehip Oil: A lightweight oil, rich in essential fatty acids, including linolenic acids. It is known for its skin-restoring, hydrating, and balancing properties. -Marshmallow Extract: Offers intensive hydrating and softening properties that rebalance dryness on the skin. -Shea Butter: A natural, waxy plant extract used as an emollient to help moisturize, soften, and smooth the skin. Ingredients: Water, Dicaprylyl Ether, Glycerin, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Sorbitan Oleate & Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Fruit Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Oil, Althaea Officinalis (Marshmallow) Root Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Rosa Gallica Flower Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed) Seed Extract, Bellis Perennis (Daisy) Flower Extract, Viola Odorata (Violet) Extract, Echinacea Purpurea Root Extract, Viola Tricolor (Heartease) Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Magnesium Sulfate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Lauroyl Lysine, Honey, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Lactic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Fragrance (Parfum)*, Alcohol, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Allantoin, Benzyl Alcohol*, Citral*, Eugenol*, Coumarin*, Geraniol*, Linalool*, Benzyl Benzoate*, Citronellol*, Hexylcinnamaldehyde*, Limonene.* *From Natural Essential Oil. Treatments -Perricone - N.V. Perricone Advanced Face Firming Activator
rated 4 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 11:42:00 PM

I was excited to try this product however after shortly putting this on, the "fishy" smell made me sick. So much that I had to wash my face and hands twice to get rid of the stench. What a shame as this product must be very effective (it has a large following with clients claiming to look 10 - 15 years younger than their age). Luckily as a day alternative, I tried Perricone M.D.'s High Potency Amine Complex Face Lift and this gave me incredible results (my skin looks smooth, firm, uplifted, airbrushed, bright with smaller pores) without any horrid stench. I am impressed with the quality Perricone M.D.'s revamped line of products but I am severely sickened by any faint smell of fish in my skincare. I am very excited about trying his other products (the last time I used his products were in 2003). I am Korean, 43 years old (facialists /aestheticians guess I am 30 - 33). I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). I use: Natura Bisse, Perricone MD, Jurlique, Cosmedicine, DHC Olive Oil Cleanser, and MD Forte Cleanser II & III.

Treatments -Perricone - High Potency Amine Complex Face Treatment
rated 5 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 11:35:00 PM

I am stunned how this product does not seem more popular considering what amazing results I have found with this. Active Ingredients: -Patented DMAE: Offered at a 16 percent higher concentration than in the previous formula, this time-erasing, contouring wonder firms, tones, restores elasticity, and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. -Vitamin C Ester: Offered at a 700 percent higher concentration than in the previous formula, this powerful antioxidant dramatically improves tone and texture, diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and imparts a vibrant and healthy glow. -Pycnogenol: Addresses loss of elasticity and delivers powerful antioxidant protection to brighten the skin's appearance. Dr. Perricone is the first to bring this key ingredient, sourced from trees in the South of France, to prestige skincare. Complete Ingredient List: 2 oz: Water, L-Tyrosine, Dimethyl MEA (DMAE), Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Glycolic Acid, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydroxylated Lecithin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Benzyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Rhodiola Rosea Root Extract, Camellia Oleifera (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Magnesium Aspartate, Zinc Gluconate, Pyridoxine HCl, Pantethine, Tocotrienols, Dimethicone, Resveratrol, Disodium EDTA, Tocopherol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Copper Gluconate, Parfum (Fragrance), Astaxanthin. What did this translate to me? Wow. My skin looks smooth, firm, uplifted, airbrushed, bright with smaller pores. This product smelled pleasant, no fish smell (unlike the other day treatment, Advanced Face Firming Activator which was so offensively fishy smelling to me that I had to wash my face and hands). Other vitamin C products I have tried: Jan Marini C-Esta (excellent but only lasted 2 months maximum), DHC Vitamin C Essence (lovely but just not as effective as this), Awake Vitamin C Essence (not as effective), Derma E's Ester-C Serum with E (horrific texture that streaked on the face). This Perricone product is not so pricey considering it is $95 for 2 oz. This vitamin C product is a keeper! I am Korean, 43 years old (facialists /aestheticians guess I am 26 - 33). I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). I use: Natura Bisse, Perricone MD, Jurlique, Jan Marini, Cosmedicine, DHC Olive Oil Cleanser, and MD Forte Cleanser II & III.

Treatments -Jan Marini - C-esta serum
rated 4 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 11:21:00 PM

I saw IMMEDIATE results from this C serum after 2 days. My face was firmer, smoother (like glass) with a glow. Wow - very impressive. I was excited to try Jan Marini Products so I ordered this along with the Transformation Serum and the Age Intervention Face Serum. This product is my favorite out of the 3. The good results stayed consistent (I esp. like this layered over an acid product like Avon Anew or Natura Bisse Glycoface). I enjoy the pina colada scent. However after only 2 months of use, the rest of the serum changed texture and was almost impossible to get out of the bottle. The bottle is very frustrating. I am glad that it seems sanitary however the serum does not really go into the dropper style so I waste a lot of time trying to get the serum out. As much as I like this product, this product is extremely expensive in that it only lasts 2 months (I never had a product that lasted less than 6 months in a 1 oz bottle). I will stick to Perricone's AM High Potency Amine Face Lift (2 oz for $95) which combines vitamin C with DMAE. My face looks airbrushed, firm and bright. Other vitamin C products I have tried: DHC Vitamin C Essence (lovely but just not as effective as Perricone or J Marini), Awake Vitamin C Essence (not as effective), Derma E's Ester-C Serum with E (horrific texture that streaked on the face). I am Korean, 43 years old (people guess I am 30 - 33). I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). Treatments -Jan Marini - Transformation Serum
rated 2 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 10:30:00 PM

This product felt nice and made the skin soft but I didn't see results much more than that. I was excited to try Jan Marini Products so I ordered this along with the C-Esta Serum and the Age Intervention Face Serum. The bottle is very frustrating. I am glad that it seems sanitary however the serum does not really go into the dropper style so I waste a lot of time trying to get the serum out. I used this product for about 2 -3 months and I did not notice any improvements remotely similar to the reviewers below (my skin didn't look any thicker, my light scars didn't become any lighter). Out of the 3 products, the only winner for me was the C-Esta Serum (however it only lasts 2-3 months for me while other C Products will last a year, for ex. Perricone High Potency Amine Face Lift is $95 for 2 oz). Perhaps this product is better for oily skin or younger skin that doesn't require much moisture? This product does not provide enough moisture for me. My skin has become dramatically more dry in the past 2 years (age 41-43) which is strange as I used to have oily skin in my 20s and I only started using moisturizer in my mid 30's. Anyway, I know that I can find a much more effective moisturizer for less money and much better results (Jurlique, Natura Bisse, Cosmedicine). I am Korean, 43 years old (people guess I am 26 - 33).

Treatments -Jan Marini - Age Intervention Face Serum
rated 2 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 10:16:00 PM

The sticky texture of this product was the deal breaker for me. I was excited to try Jan Marini Products so I ordered this along with the C-Esta Serum and the Transformation Serum. Out of the 3 products, I was displeased with this product the most . The texture was sticky and unpleasant and I disliked the texture so much that I simply could not continue using this after 7 days. Although I am glad that the product was in a sanitary pump, the grey color of the bottle is quite depressing. I used this product for only 7 days and I did not notice any improvements. That might be unfair to judge a product's performance (or rather lack of performance) after 7 days however after 2 days of using Jan Marini's C-Esta Serum, I noticed a dramatic improvement to my skin (looked smooth like glass, brighter). I am Korean, 43 years old (people guess I am 30 - 33). I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). I use: Natura Bisse, Perricone, Jurlique, Jan Marini, Cosmedicine, DHC Olive Oil Cleanser, and MD Forte Cleanser II & III.

Treatments (Eye) -M Lab - Anti-Aging Eye Cream
rated 3 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 9:15:00 PM

Like the other M Lab products I reviewed, this eye cream is "nice" but I didn't see any results to justify the very high price $150 for 1/2 oz. The eye cream has a nice, luxurious consistency, a pleasant minimal scent and it goes on smoothly. For the price, this eye cream should come in a sanitary pump. This product felt nice, no complaints of product flaking or balling but again, I just did not witness any real benefits from using this either. I will stick with my: Olay ProX on the upper lids for day, Perricone undereye for day, MD Forte Eye on undereye for night, topped w/ the Awake Renovation Eye. I am Korean, 43 years old (people guess I am 30 - 33). I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). I use: Natura Bisse, Perricone, Jurlique, Jan Marini, Cosmedicine, DHC Olive Oil Cleanser, & MD Forte Cleanser.

Treatments -M Lab - Anti-Aging Treatment Serum
rated 3 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 9:03:00 PM

This product is "nice" but I didn't see any results to justify the insane price $275 for 1 oz. The serum has a nice, luxurious consistency, a pleasant minimal scent and it goes on smoothly. I liked the sanitary pump. I did not have issues with any flaking or rolling of the product on my skin (and I use a few other products under and on top). My skin was not "damaged" by using this but I didn't witness any real benefits from using this either. I will stick with my Jurlique Herbal Recovery Serum (my skin is firmed, refined and glows with amazing clarity) that is $67 for 1 oz. and Perricone's AM High Potency Amine Face Lift (vitamin C w/ DMAE), $95 for 2 oz. I did the 1/2 face test using the serum with the M Lab Cream on top and then the other 1/2 with simply the M Lab Cream (without the serum). I simply just did not see results with these products. My skin was soft but it looked duller than usual (Jurlique & Natura Bisse products as well as my DHC Cleansing Oil provides the "bright, radiant" skin I need). I am Korean, 43 years old (people guess I am 30 - 33). I have combination skin (dry in winter, slightly oily in summer however very prone to plugged pores and occasional breakouts). I use: Natura Bisse, Perricone, Jurlique, Jan Marini, Cosmedicine, DHC Olive Oil Cleanser, & MD Forte.

Treatments -M Lab - anti-aging treatment cream
rated 3 of 5
lchoe 1/14/2010 8:47:00 PM

This product is nice but for the price $175 for 1.7 oz, I am not impressed. The cream has a nice, luxurious consistency, a pleasant minimal scent and it goes on smoothly. I don't understand why very expensive creams are in jars (germ central) instead of pumps or other sanitary applications. I did not have issues with any flaking or rolling of the product on my skin (and I use a few other products under and on top). My skin felt soft after using this but for this level of research and cost of product, I expect and frankly need my skin to look "brighter" and "glowing" (which Natura Bisse's Diamond Cream and Jurlique's Moisture Replenish Cream happily provide for me). I did the 1/2 face test using my regular products (vitamin C product from Awake or Perricone, Jurlique Herbal Recovery Gel on top of that, NB Diamond Cream on top of that finished off w/ Sofina Sunblock). As the M Lab Cream is supposed to be multi-functioning, I noticed that my 1/2 face with my products was much more firm, uplifted, bright, glowing (lit from within). The 1/2 face w/ M Lab Cream was "soft" but not bright or radiant. This product simply lacked the "wow" factor that one expects with such research, hype and high price. I am immune to marketing and hype. But I have found that Natura Bisse's Diamond Cream, $275 for 1.7 oz just leaves the skin feeling and looking radiant, bright, soft and gorgeous. The scent (lavendar) is gorgeous. I always receive compliments when I use this cream. When I need more moisture, I use Jurlique's Moisture Replenishing Cream (feels luxurious, rich, skin is amazingly "brighter") and this is only $40 for 1.4 oz. When I even need MORE moisture, I use Cosmedicine's Private Nurse Cream ($75 for 1 oz. NOTHING makes my skin more moist, plump (with no grease) than Cosmedicine's Private Nurse.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Luxurious Volume Lavish Lift Root Booster
rated 4 of 5
lchoe 11/17/2009 12:24:00 AM

I bought this along with the Luxurious Volume Hairspray and Mousse as I was on an all out attack for my hair to have more volume and body. I have returned the other 2 products (I have reviewed them also) but this product is a keeper. Maybe it's b/c I have stick straight hair that is 5" past my shoulder but this product WORKS. A friend saw me after I used this and she immediately noticed my hair having more "boost and body". My hair "swings" more when I walk with this product also. My friend immediately went out to buy this product and she said that upon application, her roots felt "more perky" and I think that is a great description. I am trying to wash my hair less (to not dry out my hair and scalp) and on the 3rd day when my hair is more "limp", I spritz my hair with water, use this on my roots and blow dry my hair and voila, my hair can survive one more day looking okay. I have fine (but lots of it) long (5" past shoulders), black, stick straight, Korean hair. Slightly oily scalp with dry ends. I also use: Joico K-Pak, Redken (All Soft Conditioner, Hair Cleansing Cream), along with Kerastase products (Bain Miroir Shampoos 1 & 2, MasqIntense for Thick Hair, Masque UV Defense Active, Nectar Thermique).

Styling Products -John Frieda - luxurious volume hairspray
rated 2 of 5
lchoe 11/17/2009 12:11:00 AM

I bought this along with the Luxurious Volume Lavish Lift Root Booster as I was on an all out attack for my hair to have more volume and body. I thought this hairspray complimented the Root Booster in terms of lift (but just a little). The biggest problem with this hairspray was that it stuck to my hair so much that when I combed or lightly brushed my hair, my HAIR WOULD PULL/COME OUT!!! Although I'm trying to give my hair more volume, my hair falling out with this hairspray stuck to it, will give me THINNER hair in the end. For hairspray, I stick to L'oreal's Elnett, European version (holds well, looks natural and you can brush your hair easily with it). I am still using the John Frieda Luxurious Volume Lavish Lift Root Booster on it's own when I need a body "boost" and I'm quite happy with it.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy - Root Touch Up
rated 5 of 5
lchoe 11/16/2009 11:55:00 PM

I have never been one to use home hair color products (too messy) however this product is wonderful and it is a HG for me. I started using this in the past 2 years as I have more greys now (I am 43) and I wanted to save $ on salon color care. As my hair is naturally raven black, most black hair color (even the non-permanent with no ammonia, no peroxide color, the only type I consider using) can look a bit harsh and a bit "goth" looking, at least initially. I use this for 15 - 20 minutes (to ensure my greys are covered) on my roots and voila, my hair is a rich sophisticated black however I'm most impressed that the black hair color part blends perfectly with the rest of my virgin black hair. When I show my friends (who spend $300 on haircolor at the salon) my recent hair color job I did myself, they are extremely impressed. I highly encourage anyone to try this wonderful, incredible product!!!
