Eye Shadow -Bare Escentuals - Bikini Beach
rated 3 of 5

Overall rating: The only reason I didn't give this product 5 lippies is because it is so dense and pigmented. Sounds odd to say, but these qualities don't work for me in a brow bone highlighter, which is how I use this. The color is so very pale, I can't imagine *anyone* using it as a lid color. It's a very light pinked-white. Lovely shade, but because of its density and pigmentation, it applies very heavily, too heavily IMHO, for a highlighter. It also drags on my brow bone for some reason, which makes it very difficult to sheer out. I almost always have to wipe some of it off with one of my fingers. Otherwise, it's a lovely eyeshadow.

Where did I buy this: I swapped for this, but it can be had at Sephora and freestanding BE stores in the mall.

Price: $13 or $14 for full size.

Packaging: Best you can get in any loose cosmetic product: screw-top pot with sifter cap.

Would I buy again: No. For the shade, I like EDM Late Checkout better.

Eye Shadow -Unlisted Brand - Twisted Fayte in Fluffy Poodle
rated 3 of 5
hp11989 11/1/2009 6:40:00 PM

Overall rating: I so wanted to love this eyeshadow, which I got in a swap, because it looks like I have a full 3-gram jar of shimmery gold fairy dust, but its texture keeps it from being HG material for me. It is a lovely sheer gold, sheer enough to use on the brow bone, which is my preference, but it applies draggily, meaning it applies too heavily (and thus darkly) and is hard to blend. I've never experienced this before in a shadow, but I found it difficult to apply lightly in order to avoid gold overload! I may try to blend it with something that has a better texture. This product has been discontinued.

Where did I buy this: It's a Twisted Fayte product, which is now the About Face brand, but it's not on their Web site anymore.

Price: Based on the About Face site, about $1.00 or so for a 1/4-teaspoon sample.

Packaging: Standard screw-top sample pot; no sifter cap.

Would I buy again: Can't and woouldn't anyway, LOL.

Eye Shadow -Fyrinnae - Immortal
rated 4 of 5
hp11989 11/1/2009 6:27:00 PM

Overall rating: I bought this shade mainly out of curiosity (that and I was getting in the Halloween spirit). I gave it four lippies because although it didn't work fo me, I can see some younger MUAers rockin' it. It's deep black with teensy multicolored microshimmer. I used it with Pixie Epoxy, and the multicolored shimmers actually showed up! However, I am very fair and never do a smokey eye, so this just looked ridiculous behind my eyeglasses. I'm way to old for this kind of frivolity, but if you can pull it off, then go for it!

Where did I buy this: Fyrinnae Web site.

Price: $1.75 for a generous 1/4-teaspoon sample.

Packaging: Standard screw-top ample pot; no sifter cap.

Would I buy again: No.

Eye Shadow -Fyrinnae - Polar Bear
rated 3 of 5
hp11989 11/1/2009 6:16:00 PM

Overall rating: I was disappointed in this shade because it was too pigmented and too dark to use as a brow bone highlighter, which is what I bought it for. I still gave it three lippies though because it's not a horrible color or texture; it's just not what I was looking for. I don't look good in yellowed golds unless they are extremely sheer. This is very dense and actually cast an unflattering tone from my lids onto my fair, pink cheeks (don't know how, but it did). If you are looking for a finely milled, shimmery yellowed gold, however, go for it!

Where did I buy this: Fyrinnae Web site.

Price: $1.75 for a generous 1/4-teaspoon sample.

Packaging: Standard screw-top sample pot; no sifter cap.

Would I buy again: Nope.

Eye Shadow -Coastal Scents - Metallic Olivia Mica Powder
rated 5 of 5
hp11989 10/29/2009 8:10:00 PM

Overall rating: O.M.F.G. This is *the* most gorgeous unique eyeshadow color ever! Definitely HG for me, although I will probably wear it only for special occasions. Try to imagine a warm antiqued chartreuse shade melted to a rich, creamy texture and then applied warm to your closed lids, coating them in metallic goodness. Then, when you open your eyes, the most stunningly hot tropical shade ever shining brightly at you in the mirror! I don't tan, but this shade would slay men in droves on tanned skin or darker complexions. Killer on a strawberry blond with blue eyes! I honestly cannot think of a skin/eye/hair shade combination that could not wear and benefit from this color. I've never seen anything like it in any cosmetic line, and I've seen/tested most of them.

Where did I buy this: Coastal Scents Web site.

Price: A mere $1.00 or so for a HUGE helping (about 3/4 to 1 full teaspoon).

Packaging: Annoying zip-lock sample baggie, but well worth decanting into a large sample jar (or two small ones).

Would I buy again: Totally. Definitely. Yes.

Eye Shadow -Coastal Scents - Antique Copper Mica Powder
rated 5 of 5
hp11989 10/29/2009 8:00:00 PM

Overall rating: I gave this item 5 lippies because it looked like how it was advertised on the CS Web site, but it just wasn't the right shade for me. Beautiful highly shimmery *orangey* copper. It looked like Incan treasure on my lids dry, so I didn't even try foiling it because I figured it would blind me! If you're looking for a rich, deep, shimmery orange, this is it!

Where did I buy this: Coastal Scents Web site.

Price: A measly $1.00 or so for a HUGE sample baggie (at least 3/4 to 1 full teaspoon).

Packaging: Annoying zip-lock sample baggie, but there's enough product to merit transferring to a sample pot if you really like the shade.

Would I buy again: No, but only because it was way OTT for me :-(

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre - Charismatic
rated 5 of 5
hp11989 10/29/2009 7:49:00 PM

Overall rating: Mmmmm. I may be in love with lustre lippies if not for the fact that many reviews say they are drying. However, this shade is a beautiful sheer and shiny rosy brown that actually lent some color to my already pigmented lips. I loved the way it made them look so smooth and rosy-caramely! I can't consider it an HG item simply because I don't wear lipstick that often.

Where did I buy this: I swapped for it, but you can find it at any freestanding MAC store or MAC counter at department stores in the mall.

Price: IIRC, between $13 and $14; well worth the price IMHO.

Packaging: Cool phallic matte black bullet shaped casing. Sleek but standard twist-up tube.

Would I buy again: Yes. I believe I would buy this if I actually used it up!

Eye Shadow -Everyday Minerals - Kayak
rated 1 of 5
hp11989 10/29/2009 7:41:00 PM

Overall rating: THE EDM Web site describes this eyeshadow as a "unique rosy brown shade with gold coppery accents." Not! The "rosy brown" part is right, but the "rosy" part is fairly lacking; it's rather a very faded undertone. And although I could see some faint shimmers in the pot, they completely disappeared when applied, whether dry, wet, or patted on! I was extremely disappointed in this shade, but luckily it was a throw-in sample with an order, so I didn't pay for it.

Where did I buy this: EDM Web site.

Price: $2.50 for a generous 1/4-teaspoon sample.

Packaging: Screw-top sample pot with sifter cap.

Would I buy again: Nope.

Eye Shadow -Everyday Minerals - Shady Violets
rated 4 of 5
hp11989 10/29/2009 7:33:00 PM

Overall rating: I gave this item only four lippies because although it is a gorgeous shade, it's a bit too dark for light-complected me :-( The EDM Web site describes it as a "brilliant violet infused with shimmer," and that's pretty accurate. It's a beautiful, rich, pigmented deep violet -- hence "shady" in the name -- like you would find violets to be deep in the woods on a moonlit night. I found that foiling it actually lightened up the shade by bringing out the subtle pink sheen embedded within, which made it more wearable for me. This would make a gorgeous liner as well as smokey eye.

Where did I buy this: EDM Web site.

Price: $2.50 for a generous 1/4-teaspoon sample.

Packaging: Screw-top sample pot with sifter cap.

Would I buy again: No, but only because it's a bit OTT for me.

Eye Shadow -Everyday Minerals - In the Garden
rated 5 of 5
hp11989 10/19/2009 7:12:00 PM

Overall rating: Well, count me in as another lover of this HG eyeshadow! It's absolutely gorgeous and truly merits all the great reviews. The base, to me, looks like a warm grayed brown taupe. I can see very fine pine green and medium blue shimmers in it, but these don't show very much when applied; they just make it look *very* sparkly. The green, along with gold shimmer overlay, make it look a bit antiqued, but you would never consider it a "green" eyeshadow. Looks gorgeous foiled, too; more of the blue and green microshimmers show, but they look well blended and don't change the overall "tone" of the shadow.

Where did I buy this: EDM Web site.

Price: $2.50 for a generous-sized sample.

Packaging: Best you can get in a loose cosmetic product: screw-top sample pot with sifter cap.

Would I buy again: Totally! This will be in heavy rotation in my MU arsenal!

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Eyeshadow Brush
rated 5 of 5
hp11989 10/17/2009 7:16:00 PM

Overall rating: Count this as another rave for this brush, which will become an HG item for me when doing someone else's eyes (the longer-handled 239 is harder to work with in this capacity). To test, I used a MAC 239 brush to apply E.L.F. Socialite eyeshadow to my right eye, and the E.L.F. brush to apply the same shadow to my left eye. This brush actually picked up more shadow, so a single application gave me more than enough coverage, whereas I'm used to dipping my MAC 239 brush a couple of times to get the desired coverage. This should result in saving me a little time. I'll update after I've washed it re: possible shedding.

Where did I buy this: E.L.F. Web site.

Price: A whopping $.75 during the recent E.L.F. sale.

Construction: Short white handle.

Would I buy again: Definitely yes!

Eye Shadow -E.L.F. - Mineral Eyeshadow in Temptress
rated 1 of 5
hp11989 10/17/2009 2:59:00 PM

Overall rating: So boring and non-pigmented I couldn't even give it another chance to find some redeeming qualities :-(

Where did I buy this: E.L.F. Web site.

Price: Thank God I wasted only $.75 on this during their recent sale.

Packaging: Actually, the best you can get in any loose cosmetic product: large screw-top pot with a sifter cap.

Would I buy again: Ummmmm, let me see. I think not!

Eye Shadow -Bare Escentuals - Heart
rated 1 of 5
hp11989 10/17/2009 2:53:00 PM

Overall rating: Sorry to break up the lovefest for this eyeshadow, but I HATED it! I can't believe that BE calls this a "shimmer"; it applies more like a "glimpse." It barely showed up on my lids color-wise, let alone shimmer-wise (I couldn't see any.) It has less shimmer than a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash shadow, and that's saying a lot. I couldn't even get a decent shimmer payoff by foiling it. It's so boring I almost wrote "just boring" for this review. Caveat: I love shimmery shadow, so that's why it got only one lippie from me.

Applied dry over UDPP: Boring.

Applied wet over UDPP: Wet and boring.

Applied dry over UDPP Sin: This may save it for me, now that I think about it. Will update.

Where did I buy this: I swapped for it, but it can be had at any freestanding BE store, and probably also Sephora, in the mall.

Price: IIRC, $13.00 for a large pot. Not too bad, if you like the color.

Packaging: Best you can get in any loose powder cosmetic: large sifter-capped screw-top pot.

Would I buy again: Gee, can ya guess?
