Lipstick -Maybelline - Naturally Rose
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 4/16/2008 2:09:00 AM

Naturally Rose is from Maybelline's Spring 2008 limited edition collection called "Naked Beige" (collection of 5 lipsticks and several lip glosses). Naturally Rose is supposedly for medium skin tones (according to the display) but it should work fine for light skin gals. It's a neutral to warm-toned creamy lipstick (no shimmer) in a muted, medium rosey-mauvey color. In my opinion, it is similar to Chestnut (part of the permanent line of Moisture Extreme lipsticks). In fact, the difference between Chestnut and Naturally Rose is quite subtle. Chestnut seems to have just have a *hint* of brown when lined up next to Naturally Rose. By the way, while I do like Naturally Rose, my favorite lipstick from this collection is Naturally Blushed (read my separate review of this color). For reference, I have light skin with neutral to warm undertones (MAC NC 25sh, Maybelline Age Rewind Cream foundation in #2, Cover Girl Advanced Radiance foundation in Buff Beige). It also has the cucumber melon scent and moisturizing texture typical of other Moisture Extreme lipsticks. It comes in a copper colored tube (instead of the usual red colored tube).

Lipstick -Maybelline - Moisture Extreme in Naturally Petal
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 4/13/2008 11:52:00 PM

Naturally Petal is my second most favorite lipstick from Maybelline's Naked Beige collection (my favorite l/s from this collection is Naturally Blushed). Naked Beige is the name of Maybelline's 2008 spring collection of limited edition lipsticks (5 different lipstick colors). These lipsticks come in a coppery plastic tube unlike the red plastic tubes used for the regular Moisture Extreme lipsticks. As usual, this lipstick has the cucumber-melon scent/taste typical of the Moisture Extreme lipsticks, which doesn't bother me. This color is just a wonderful nude. Nudes can be hard for me to pull off since many nude lipsticks make me look washed out or corpse-like (Yes, I'm talking especially about you MAC Blankety!!!). However, Naturally Petal is a great nude lipstick that gives me an understated yet polished look. On my pigmented lips, this lipstick gives me a light beige lipstick with a hint of peach and a hint of pink as well. For reference, I have light skin with neutral to warm undertones (MAC NC 25sh, Maybelline Age Rewind Cream Foundation in #2, Cover Girl Buff Beige).

Blush -Everyday Minerals - waffle cone
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 4/13/2008 11:45:00 PM

Waffle Cone seems like a popular blush on MUA but I was resisting the purchase of it as I tend to shy away from shimmery/sparkly blushes. However, I took the risk and purchased and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. In the jar and as a swatch on my inner wrist, Waffle Cone looks like a shimmery and sparkly light beige blush. But on my cheeks, Waffle Cone gives me a low-key, summery glow that isn't overpowering or OTT. Surprisingly, the sparkles and the shimmer don't show up on my cheeks - I just get a glow. It's great for light skinned gals like me. I would say that Waffle Cone is the beige cousin of EM's Jump Rope blush (which gives me a pale rosey-mauvey glow). Waffle Cone is probably better for neutral to warm-toned gals. For reference, I have a light skin with neutral to warm undertones (MAC NC 25sh, combo of EM Intensive in Buff Fairly Light Neutral and EM original glo in Buff Fairly Light Neutral, Cover Girl in Buff Beige).

Lipstick -Maybelline - Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Naturally Blushed
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 4/13/2008 11:37:00 PM

Naturally Blushed is part of Maybelline's 2008 spring limited edition release of the Naked Beige collection. Unlike the regular collection of Moisture Extreme lipsticks, this collection of lipsticks come in a coppery plastic tube, which makes the tube look a lot more flattering (and less cheap-looking like the red plastic tubes of the permanent Moisture Extreme lipsticks. Naturally Blushed is my favorite color from the Naked Beige collection. It's truly a MLBB, neutral-toned, medium rosey-pink lipstick with slight brown undertones (no shimmer). In my opinion, this color would look good on a lot of people. I can tell that this color is the most popular one from this collection because it's the first one to go. I've had to travel to several drugstores and supermarkets to find this particular color. For reference, I have dark brown hair, light skin with neutral to warm undertones (MAC NC 25sh, Cover Girl Buff Beige, Maybelline Age Rewind Cream Foundation in No. 2). I hope Maybelline makes this color a permanent one (as well as the other Naked Beige lipsticks - see my separate reviews)

Blush -Everyday Minerals - Jump Rope
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 4/13/2008 7:50:00 PM

In the jar and on my wrist, Jump Rope appears to be a neutral to cool-toned, muted mauve colored blush with shimmer/sparkles. I was worried that the blush would give me disco ball cheeks because of the obvious sparkles, but on my cheeks (ligh skin with neutral to warm undertones) Jump Rope gives me a pretty, muted rosy-colored glow (I don't see any mauve at all on my cheeks, which is weird). This is a great blush and is definitely something that you can wear to work without wondering if you look professional or not. For reference, I use a mixture of Fairly Light Neutral (Buff) in both intensive and original glo.

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Colour Riche in Peachy Keen
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 4/9/2008 4:59:00 PM

Peachy Keen, a limited edition l/s, was released a few months ago as part of the Golden Globes collection (featuring Scarlett Johansson). When it was released, the displays in the drugstores and my local supermarket were picked apart so I never purchased anything from this collection. However, I purchased several make up products from this collection today because I went to a Rite Aid that had the full collection! So for those of you searching for products from this collection, do not lose hope as you may still find a store that will carry this collection. Peachy Keen is a muted, nude beige lipstick with very slight peachy tones. It definitely is a warm-toned nude. As I am fair-skinned with neutral to warm undertones (MAC NC 25sh), I have to be cautious with certain nude colored lipsticks that can wash me out. Surprisingly, Peachy Keen works on me. It gives me pouty, Ursula Andress-Brigitte Bardot lips. In terms of texture, Peachy Keen is creamy with no shimmer. I would say that Peachy Keen is the beige cousin of L'Oreal's other nude lipstick, Fairest Nude (this is a pinky-nude color).

Conditioner -Trader Joe's - Essential Herbal Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 2/17/2008 5:02:00 PM

I bought this conditioner with the shampoo (see my separate review) from Trader Joe's. I was surprised as to how smooth and silky this conditioner makes my hair feel. According to the label, this conditioner is meant for all hair types. This conditioner has a cherry almond scent and has a creamy, white texture. It is housed in a 16 oz (473 ml) violet-blue plastic bottle (I love the look of the bottle - it looks simple yet elegant). You get a lot for what you pay for (@ $3). Many cheap conditioners contain silicone which weighs my hair down; and those that don't contain silicone like White Rain, Suave, etc, do not do anything to make my hair feel soft and smooth. Fortunately, this conditioner is different. A great thing about this conditioner is that it is not tested on animals and does not contain any animal products. Ingredients: Aqueous extracts of calendula officinalis flower and hydrastis canadensis (golden seal), cetyl alcohol, hydrolized wheat protein, glycerin, tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) leaf extract, urtica dioica (nettle) extract, equisetum hiemale extract, panthenol, inositol, tocopheryl acetate, glyceryl stearate, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, orchis mascula flower extract, triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, achillea millefolium extract, melissa officinalis (balm mint) leaf extract, arctium lappa root extract, prunus serotina (wild cherry) bark extract, methylparaben, propylparaben, diazolidinyl urea, fragrance.

Shampoo -Trader Joe's - Essential Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 2/17/2008 4:50:00 PM

This shampoo is a herbal shampoo that, as the previous reviewer mentioned, has a pleasing cherry almond scent. The shampoo is clear but is housed in a 16 oz (473 ml), simple but elegant-looking, violet-blue bottle. This shampoo is reasonably priced and I find that it isn't harsh on my hair. It's one of my favorite low-end shampoos (the conditioner is also great as well!). Another big plus is that this product was not tested on any animals and contains no animal products. Ingredients: Aqueous extracts of calendula officinalis flower and hydrastis canadensis (golden seal), sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, cocamidopropyl betaine, cocamide dea, tussilago farfara (coltsfoot) leaf extract, urtica dioica (nettle) extract, equisetum hiemale extract, panthenol, inositol, hydrolized wheat protein, triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) extract, achillea millefolium extract, melissa officinalis (balm mint) leaf extract, arctium lappa root extract, prunus serotina (wild cherry) bark extract, citric acid, methylparaben, propylparaben, diazolidinyl urea, fragrance.

Lipstick -MAC - Frost - Angel
rated 4 of 5
flamencovixen 2/16/2008 1:17:00 PM

I'm a big fan of MAC's lipsticks but I never tried the frost formula until I purchased Angel (due to the hype about how Kim Kardashian uses this lipstick with Stripdown liner and NARS Turkish Delights l/g). I was intrigued and read the reviews about how Angel is not frosty (I hate frosty lipsticks and I stay away from metallic lipsticks). I have to say that I agree with others who have described the formula - Angel is really not a frosty lipstick at all. It has a subtle shimmer in the tube but when I apply Angel on my lips, I don't notice the shimmer at all. It's also more sheer than I expected it to be. In fact, in terms of formula, Angel seems more like a lustre. Angel is a cool-toned light pastel pink. It's not a bright, in-your-face pink and I definitely wouldn't call it a Barbie pink. I like to mix it up with other lipsticks (usually beige) to get a nice nude beige-pink lip.

Lips -Bonne Bell - lipLITES Glossy Tint
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 2/9/2008 11:54:00 PM

I have two colors: Cappuccino and Caramel Latte. Cappuccino is a sheer brown with very subtle shimmer. Caramel Latte is a peachy caramel nude. Caramel Latte is by far my favorite of the two. Both smell divine. Both are also quite slick and therefore, will easily come off of your lips. They are such a great find!

Conditioner -Matrix - Biolage - Conditioning Balm
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 2/9/2008 11:43:00 PM

I love to use this after I use clarifying shampoo. I love the floral smell...it's not heavy nor is it light. It really does a great job of conditioning my hair so that it get smooth and silky! I have long hair and I use clarifying shampoo maybe once or twice a month and those are the only times I use this conditioning balm.

Conditioner -White Rain - Lavender-Vanilla Conditioner
rated 3 of 5
flamencovixen 2/9/2008 11:40:00 PM

Lavender Vanilla has a nice scent...it's a little on the strong side but that doesn't bother me. I don't really smell the lavender though I do smell some vanilla. It is cheap and the texture is thick and creamy. I got it because I was going to start doing the "conditioner only" program of just washing my hair with conditioner. However, I never got into that program. I use this conditioner on and off...it really doesn't do much for my hair as far as detangling or making it silky smooth. It doesn't have any silicone in it so I am sure that's part of the reason. Anyway, this is just your average conditioner. I may or may not repurchase this.

Lip Gloss -Neutrogena - Moistureshine Lipgloss in Groove [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
flamencovixen 2/9/2008 10:27:00 PM

What a disappointment from a seemingly beautiful lipgloss. As others have pointed, the consistency of this lip gloss isn't the greatest. I found different versions (colors) of Groove in the same drugstore - a few were champagne colored, others were really light pink, and then one which was the pinkest. I took the pinkest one since I was hoping to get the light milky pink glossy look on my lips. However, this lip gloss still takes a lot of work to use. It didn't apply smoothly and evenly and the color on my lips ended up being a mod-pink lipstick with a whitish shimmer...not a milky pink lip color that I was expecting. I ended up having to use my finger to smooth out the color so that it would be more even. As a result, I am not going to repurchase this lipstick again.

Lipstick -MAC - 4N - The N Collection
rated 5 of 5
flamencovixen 2/9/2008 8:00:00 PM

4N is by far my favorite MAC nude lipsticks. As a person with light skin (neutral to warm undertones, MAC NC 25ish), it's challenging to find a nude lipstick that doesn't wash me out. I purchased 3N, which is a pretty pink, but is quite sheer. 4N is so much more of a better match for me. It beats Hug Me and my other MAC nudes. On my pigmented lips, has a bit of pink, a bit of brown, and a bit of peach. It's creamy and smooth and is a lot more pigmented than I expected, especially for a lustre. I am definitely going to be buying a back up for this lipstick!

Lip Liners -Prestige - Waterproof Lip Liner in Oak
rated 3 of 5
flamencovixen 2/9/2008 4:10:00 PM

Prestige Oak is a medium brown lipliner. It comes in an automatic pencil that is self-sharpening. I got Oak because of all the raves on MUA but it's just ok on me. Based on the reviews, I assumed that Oak would be lighter and more nude but on me, it'st just a plain ol' brown lipliner. I certainly wouldn't use it alone...it's just too brown and too dark (for reference, I have light skin with neutral to warm undertones, MAC NC 25sh).
