Concealers -Pupa - liquid cream conscealer
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 4/22/2006 12:01:00 PM

I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by this concealer. This concealer has a runny consistency (hence the "liquid" in its name). Usually, concealer that has a very liquid consistency doesn't provide a very heavy coverage. Although Liquid Cream Concealer from PUPA doesn't cover like a foundation, it still cover pretty well red spots. No heavy feeling, and it's not greasy nor sticky. Pretty expensive for the amount you get though. I would probably buy it again since I like its amazing consistency.

The texture tends to melt onto the skin but dries quickly so I have to pat it as soon as I apply it on my skin. My only big complaint is that it is not "long lasting" as it promises. It tends to rub off a bit...

The shade selection is really poor, I think there are only 3 shades. Since it claims to reduce redness, this concealer is slighlty yellow, which is fine with me since my skin tends to be on the yellow side rather than on the pink side. Most concealers tends to be too pink or too orange for my skin tone, and this one looks great (for reference my skin is PPP/LLL and slightly yellow-ish). However, the lightest shade would be too dark during winter. Right now, since I use some self-tanner, this shade is almost perfect but if you have ghost alike pale skin, stay away from these concealers. They are definitely too dark.

Shampoo -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Avalon Organics Awapuhi Mango Moisturizing Shampoo
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 4/22/2006 11:30:00 AM

This is an overall good shampoo but I don't think I'll buy it again. My hair feels clean afterwards, but this product is not moisturizing enough. Although it's gentle and doesn't contain harsh ingredients, it's not an HG. Would probably be more suitable with normal hair rather than dry hair.

Yes, it has a strange smell but I kinda like it. A bit chemical but citrus-y and also has a faint candy scent... Hard to describe.

Bottom line: good product but definitely not the best on the market!

Scrubs -Biotherm - Biosource Softening Exfoliating Cream
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 4/15/2006 12:22:00 PM

I have tried many facial scrubs and this is one of my favorite so far. I've been using this twice a week for the last 2 weeks and I am really impressed. I don't like when a scrub is too harsh and this one is just perfect.

For reference, my skin is sensitive, combination and acne-prone. I was going to buy the one from Biopur line (for combination/oily skins) but the SA suggested me to use this one instead since I told her my skin was sensitive. She also ensured me that my skin wasn't so oily anyway. So I ended up buy stuff from the dry skin line, but I would recommend this scrub for almost any skin type.

I've been using MAC Microfine Refinisher lately but this product makes my skin red each single time. Biosource Softening Exfoliating Cream is less harsh. It has very tiny particles. The texture is smoother and creamier than MAC Microfine Refinisher. It makes a lot of foams and it has a refreshing feeling if that makes any sense.

This product is a bit expensive ($25.50 in Canada) but I would certainly buy it again.

Eye Makeup Remover -Nivea - Gentle Eye Make-up Remover
rated 3 of 5
emiliejolie 4/15/2006 11:41:00 AM

This eye makeup remover is average in my humble opinion. Not extremely bad, but not extraordinary either. I am pretty sure I could find a more "gentle" product than this one, which is way too fragranced.

It is not the most efficient eye makeup remover I've tried and it doesn't remove all my makeup, even if I use a lot of product. I usually need to clean each eye twice with this eye makeup remover and a cotton pad, and the day after, when I wake up, I still have some black residues all over my eye (even though my mascara/eyeliner are NON-waterproof).

I like the packaging though - less messy than a tube. But I won't purchase this again.

Blush -MAC - Satin Blush - Fleur Power
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 3/26/2006 11:05:00 AM

Fleur Power is a bright pink/slighlty coral shade and it is more on the matte side. Beautiful, intense color, and very pigmented, but super easy to overdo it... so I have to pay attention each time I use it in order not to end up with doll cheeks. Although it's a flattering shade (I am PPP/LLL), it is not really an HG. Peach shades look more natural on me rather than pink shades (perhaps because my skin is slightly yellow-toned?? I don't know).

It has a good lasting power and a smooth texture (tends to crumble a bit more than most MAC blushes though).

If you want pretty pink flushed cheeks, this might be a winner. I am not sure that I would buy it again though... even if the shade is cute, it is not really a must-have in my makeup stash.

Cleansers -Kinerase - Gentle Daily Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 3/25/2006 12:33:00 PM

Although this cleanser does a fair job, I would not purchase it since there are cheaper cleansers that work just as well and that are more affordable. I got a big GWP tube with a Sephora order and I've found out that a little goes a long way.

It doesn't lather that much but I don't really care as long as it cleanses well, which it does. The consistency is a bit weird - slightly thick and pasty/glue-y. It's gentle and doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. Doesn't dry out my skin neither.

But honestly this cleanser is way too expensive. Johnson's Head-to-Toe Baby wash works just as well!

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipgelee Jellybabe
rated 3 of 5
emiliejolie 3/25/2006 11:57:00 AM

I wanted to like Jellybabe but this shade just looks dull on my lips. In store (in the tube), Jellybabe looked like the perfect mocha-peach nude gloss but on my lips it's a plain "bleh" shade. Not really peach. More like a brownish nude shade and it is not particularly flattering.

I like the Lipgelees - so far I own Lu-Be-Lu, Saplicious and Lilacrush. These shades look way better that Jellybabe in my opinion.

Treatments (Eye) -BeneFit Cosmetics - Ooh la lift!
rated 3 of 5
emiliejolie 3/25/2006 11:18:00 AM

I am on the fence. While this product does a decent job, for some reason it irritates the skin under my eyes. My skin has been extremely sensitive for the last few months... I have tried Ooh La Lift a couple of times so far, but I had to stop using this product since it burned my skin. I might give it another chance...

However it does a great job on bags. Doesn't make them disappear, but gives to my eyes area a "brighter" look. It's not really a concealer though but my bags seem less puffy when I use Ooh La Lift.

You have to apply Ooh La Lift with a light hand because if you apply too much product it will cake and set into lines. I am not going to purchase it again since irritation occurs every single time I pat it under my eyes. Moreover, even if I am a BeneFit lover, this product isn't a must-have IMHO.

Fragrances -Lulu beauty - LuLu Guinness Cast a Spell
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 3/25/2006 10:56:00 AM

I fell in love with its name "Cast a Spell" and the little castle on the bottle. I like anything medieval/magics, so I was definitely a good target. LOL

Reminds me of Lolita Lempicka and Krizia, but this one is slightly "musk-ier", not as soft/sweet. I prefer Lolita Lempicka over this one because Cast a Spell is a bit bolder/stronger and perhaps less complex. Not that much a berry scent on my skin- on me it's definitely a powdery/musky scent.

I'm not sure that I would buy it again. It's a nice, delightful fragrance but not something I would die for.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Aquadisiac
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 3/25/2006 10:37:00 AM

This is probably the most beautiful turquoise/aqua shade ever!! It's a bright/intense shade... I'd say it's a fun color as well. It's pigmented but the shimmers are barely noticeable on my eyelids.

I usually apply a thin line under my eye - from the outer corner to the middle of my eye... it makes my hazel eyes pop!! I stayed away from this shade for a while since I tought it would look weird on me, but I was so wrong. Aquadisiac is such a beautiful shade!!

Concealers -Revlon - ColorStay Blemish Concealer with Soft Flex
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 3/25/2006 10:25:00 AM

Usually I am not really into Revlon makeup but I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised by this concealer. This concealer comes in a wand tube and if I remember well, there are 3 shades. I bought the lightest shade "Fair". There's 0.5% salicylic acid as an acne treatment (and because of that, this concealer has a "medicinal" scent). I don't think it's enough to treat acne though. Since it contains salicylic acid, I don't use it as an undereye concealer, but only on blemishes and scars.

It has a soft consistency, not too runny, not too creamy and goes on smoothly. However, I have to blend it right away upon application since it tends to dry quickly. The lasting power is impressive - it lasts almost all day and doesn't disappear nor rub off throughout the day. Moverover, it provides a good coverage AND still looks natural. It also gives an almost flawless finish to my face (which is, believe me, a miracle since my skin has been acting like crazy for the last few weeks).

It also contains "SoftFlex" for a lightweight, comfortable feel/texture. I have to say that I prefer its texture over all the other concealers from Revlon.

My only complaint would be the color selection. The lightest shade isn't that light and I have to mix it with another concealer... otherwise it's a bit too dark/orangey for my complexion.

Bottom line: IMHO it's a bit expensive for a drugstore concealer (almost $12.00 in Canada) but I am so pleased by the results. I will certainly purchase it again...

Eye Shadow -MAC - Spring Up
rated 5 of 5
emiliejolie 3/19/2006 11:14:00 AM

Spring Up is the light yellow shade I've been looking for a while! It's a shimmery baby yellow, slightly white-ish, and has some gold sheen as well. Very luminous and glowy! I didn't think I'd like this color at first, but I'm glad I finally bought it. :-) A good staple!

Spring Up is versatile and can be used as an highlighter, as an overall wash, or paired with different shades of green, bronze, brown, etc. Creates gorgeous combos!

The texture is slightly chalky and tends to crumble a bit, but other than that, this is an excellent product. I would purchase it again.

Lip Gloss -Maybelline - shiny-licious in raizn razzle
rated 4 of 5
emiliejolie 3/18/2006 11:26:00 AM

Although in the tube this shade is pretty dark, on my lips it shows up as a pretty sheer plum/bergundy with shimmers. It looks great alone or over a pale lipstick. It smells/tastes like grape juice. It has a nice consistency, goes on smoothly and it's not thick.

A little goes a long way. I'm not a Maybelline fanatic... However I have to say that I absolutely adore their Shiny-Licious glosses so I don't mind to pay 7 bucks even if it's a drugstore gloss....

Eye Shadow -MAC - Arena
rated 3 of 5
emiliejolie 3/18/2006 11:16:00 AM

Arena is a pale peachy-yellowish/pinkish shade. Hard to describe!! Although Arena is a pretty shade, I swapped it .... unfortunately, it doesn't look good at all on my eyelids. On me, Arena is too orange and somewhat bleh. :-(

It has a nice silky finish, and it's quite matte but not plain. It's not shimmery but has some "sheen" if that makes any sense. Could be a great shade for darker complexions... maybe it doesn't work well because I'm quite fair. I don't know. But I would not buy it again.

Lip Gloss -Clarins - Colour Quench Lip Balm
rated 5 of 5
emiliejolie 3/18/2006 11:06:00 AM

One word: LOVE! Clarins makeup has never really catched my attention but a few weeks ago I came accross this gloss in shade #10 which is a beautiful shade. It's a sheer pinkish lilac, with tons of shimmers. Now it's one of my favorite lip products!

It is truly moisturizing (great on dry lips as well!). It has a yummy fruity taste. The tube is convenient. Plus - the consistency is excellent: not thick at all, and not sticky! It's slightly expensive ($20.00 in Canada) but I have to say that it's a 5-stars product. A great purchase and will certainly try other shades! Highly recommended! :-)
