Eyeliner -L'Oreal - HIP Kohl in Navy
dreamspice 3/16/2010 7:04:00 PM
I have two of these eyeliners and I really love them. They have a truly unique look - a very different finish from a pencil, cake or liquid liner. They blend seamlessly with the pigment powders for an easy smokey eye. I really love the way navy eyeliner looks - less harsh than black but still as dramatic. I can easily see this becoming one of my favorite eyeliners. And, funnily enough, after avoiding these eyeliners for a long time because of complaints that they were difficult to use, I actually find them as easy to apply than cake eyeliner.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - HIP Kohl Eyeliner in Teal
dreamspice 3/16/2010 7:01:00 PM
I was nervous about buying a loose eyeliner because of the many reviewers that mentioned how messy it is. And, yes, the powder really does flick everywhere. But it's easy to just apply eyeliner first, clean off the flecks and then do the rest of my makeup. And it's worth it because these eyeliners give a really different look from pencil, cake or liquid eyeliners. They're softer and easier to blend and they last. Unfortunately, I was not able to get this to work in my waterline but NOTHING works in my waterline because my eyes water so much. But I do love this teal color - I mix it with the Striving pigment for a soft, daytime appropriate smokey eye with a touch of color. Beautiful.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HIP shocking Shadow Pigment In Striving
dreamspice 3/16/2010 6:57:00 PM
I'm totally drawn to turquoises and teals, because of the olive undertones to my skin, greens tend to disappear, so turquoise and teals give me a better "green" color pay-off. This pigment is a gorgeous shade of teal that blends beautifully. I love the little shaker - it makes it really easy to apply. I just shake out a big into the lid, swirl in my brush, tap off the excess and ... perfect amount of powder. I love to mix this with the teal kohl for a lovely smokey eye. Yes, the pigments are pricey for drugstore products but they are really excellent quality - I know I'll use this forever.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HiP Shocking Shadow Pigment- Valiant
dreamspice 3/16/2010 6:53:00 PM
Ever since L'Oreal's pigments came out, I've hemmed and hawed about buying them. They seemed pricey for drugstore eyeshadows but they're sooo tempting. Finally, there was a BOGO and I splurged. I am in LOVE with this. A blue-toned smokey eye is my favorite look and this shadow is a gorgeous middle tone (which I blend with the navy loose pigment eyeliner). It looks MUCH more purple in the container than on my Asian, olive toned light skin. On my skin it looks more like a soft, desaturated navy (with slight purple tones). Yay!

Eye Shadow -Cover Girl - Smoky ShadowBlast
dreamspice 3/16/2010 6:48:00 PM
I was completely seduced by how gorgeous the packaging looked (very Shu Uemura) and how great Drew Barrymore's eyes looked in the ads for this product. Normally, I don't buy cream based shadows because they always crease horribly before disappearing. (Except for MAC.) Well, I tried this once and, surprise, surprise, the shadow didn't last. Also, the darker side wasn't really dark enough to create a "smokey eye" look. In fact, on my lid, the dark color pretty much looked the same as the light color. (I got the blue.) Anyway, I just returned it today and exchanged it for another L'Oreal HIP pigment. MUCH better.

Gels/Soaps -Olay - Body Wash plus Tone Enhancing Ribbons
dreamspice 3/14/2010 5:46:00 PM
This is a really good rich, moisturizing body wash. Great for winter, a pleasure to use. The only reason I haven't given it a five is because the scent (like all Olay fragrances) is very fake smelling. Luckily, it doesn't smell strong enough to stick on my skin or irritate my allergies but I don't thoroughly enjoy using this wash because the smell annoys me. Somewhere out there is a body wash that does everything this body wash and smells good. But if I don't find it, I'd definitely buy this again. (By the way, this doesn't really leave a shimmer but does make my skin soft and silky - which considering how drying this winter has been is pretty much a miracle.)

Lotions/ Creams -Neutrogena - Body Oil with Sesame
dreamspice 3/14/2010 5:34:00 PM
I've only been using this for a week and I've already noticed a dramatic difference in my skin. It's super soft and silky everywhere. Even my scaly elbows that NOTHING seems to help have healed! I use this exactly as the directions tell you to - I rub it into my skin while it's still damp from the shower and then let it sink in before getting dressed. (Sometimes I pat dry with a towel if I'm in a hurry.) Love!

This is a very well-priced, good quality AHA product. It feels good going on and I definitely think my skin tone has improved since buying it. But I bought it for a very specific reason - to fade a few spots hyperpigmentation - and it hasn't really done what I'd hoped it would do. In the past, I've used Alpha Hydrox 10% lotion and it worked perfectly. But my local Rite Aid doesn't carry Alpha Hydrox so I thought I'd give this a shot. I like the formulation of this product enough that I just bought their Kojic Acid Brightening Fluid and I'm considering trying the Retinol Serum. But I don't think I'll buy this again.

Scrubs -Giovanni - Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub
dreamspice 3/7/2010 2:54:00 PM
I adore this product. It smells so so so delicious that I feel like I'm giving my skin a treat when I use it. Plus, it's very well blended so it actually doesn't feel oily (even though it does still moisturize beautifully). It is HELLA expensive, though. You get a much smaller amount of product for your money than you do with most other scrubs. This is a luxury product for me - I only buy it when it's on sale, or I'm feeling a need for a pick me up. I definitely does make for a happy shower, though. :)

Scrubs -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Sea Salt Body Scrub
dreamspice 3/7/2010 2:50:00 PM
I adore salt scrubs. Ever since Origins' iconic salt rub first came out, I've been a fan. My favorite scrubs are the Trader Joe's scrubs but now that I live in Idaho, I don't have access so I've been trying other brands. I had high hopes for this one since I like Alba Botanica's other products and I really like a citrus-y scent. But this is ... not good. The salt granules are a little too harsh and big so they scrape rather than scrub your skin and the combination of citrus oil and salt are very irritating. (I know it's possible to have a non-irritating citrus scrub because Trader Joe's Grapefruit scrub is my absolute fav.) My skin was red, itchy and irritated after using this scrub and that has never happened to me before. Will NOT buy again. I'm actually thinking of returning this.

Conditioner -Yes To Carrots - Pampering Hair Mud Conditioner
dreamspice 3/3/2010 12:01:00 PM
Went a little crazy at the most recent BOGO sale at Rite Aid and thought I'd give Yes to Carrots' shampoo and conditioner a try. I can't do products with silicone and nowadays it's a struggle to find gentle, moisturizing products without silicone. I thought I'd try this line as a break from my Giovanni all the time. These are good products, but I wasn't really impressed enough with my hair to feel at all inspired to buy either the shampoo or conditioner again.

Moisturizers -Yes To Carrots - C Through the Night Night Moisturizing Cream
dreamspice 2/9/2010 2:38:00 PM
Normally, I don't like to use moisturizers that come in a tub because of hygiene. But this winter my skin has been SO parched and nothing else has been working and when I saw this on sale at Rite Aid as BOGO I thought, why not give it a try? I am sooo glad I did. This cream is rich and soft and soothes my skin instantly. The fragrance doesn't bother me (in fact I like it) and it doesn't break me out. I don't even have to use it every day (although, before I started using Albolene as my cleanser, I WAS using this several times a day). I think this product would be far too heavy and rich under most circumstances but for winter... perfect! It feels like a very expensive cream to me... in fact, it reminds me of Darphin's Arovita C Cream (which I only used as a sample because it's so expensive it can't bring myself to buy it).

Lotions/ Creams -Yes To Carrots - Hand and Elbow Moisturizing Cream
dreamspice 2/9/2010 2:31:00 PM
When I first saw this product line at Rite Aid, I laughed. I thought it was the silliest name for a line EVER. But this winter has been really rough on my skin and the line was buy one get one free so I thought I'd give it a shot. I LOVE this hand cream. (Heh - I almost typed hand dream.) It feels great on my frequently washed hands and parched elbows and seems to instantly sink in. I like the scent which is pleasant and light. (Usually I can't stand scents of any kind.) This has replaced Neutrogena Hand Cream as my winter skin saver.

Ever since I heard about this product, I've been dying to try it. I've been getting a little sick of my Giovanni products all the time and wanted to try a different "green" shampoo (honestly I'm a little skeptical about how green these products are but I feel better buying them). Boy was I ever disappointed. Although the texture and smell of the shampoo and conditioner were both divine, combined they left my hair dull, limp and lifeless. Pretty much the opposite of Kate Hudson's springy locks. I tried using much much less product (which sometimes does the trick) to no avail. As soon as I switched to Giovanni again, my hair sprang back to life. This might work on other people's hair but not on mine. (For reference, my texture is thick and coarse and I have A LOT of hair... Silicone in my shampoo and conditioning products tends to weigh down my hair instantly leaving it flat and dull.)
