Lip Treatments -The Body Shop - Lip Butter - Shea
rated 2 of 5

Oh, how I wish I'd read these reviews before buying this! But I was so desperate to replace my favorite Mode de Vie Karite Lips shea butter lip balm, that I thought this might be similar. I was wrong. First of all, $6 for that little tub is kind of pricey. And the fact that it comes in a tub makes it hard to apply, and leaves your fingertip feeling greasy afterwards. It also makes your lips look white if you apply even slightly too much... my other shea butter lip balm NEVER did that, so it must be the Body Shop's formula. The fragrance is a little bit too much - not vanilla-y or natural, just too scented for my taste. It doesn't moisturize like shea butter usually does, which makes me think they've added too many other ingredients. It actually leaves my lips feeling dry pretty quickly, so I think it evaporates or something. I don't recommend this.

Styling Products -Garnier - Fructis XXL Volume Thickening Mousse Extreme
rated 3 of 5

Eh, it's okay. It seems to give a decent amount of volume right after blow drying, but it doesn't last. By the end of the day I can't even tell if I used it or not. That's surprising that it doesn't last long on me because I have a lot of really fine hair that isn't even past my shoulders - it shouldn't get weighed down that fast! The smell is so-so; not great, but not overwhelming or unpleasant, just slightly fruity. The biggest positive is that it doesn't leave your hair feeling crunchy or stiff - it's as though nothing is in it!

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Mode de Vie Shea Butter Lip Balm

I absolutely LOVE this! It would totally be my new HG lip balm, if only I could find it again! I bought it from Whole Foods, but when I went back 2 weeks later to buy more, it was gone :( This comes in a nice giant stick, so at least it lasts a while. It was about $6, which is way more than I normally spend on lip balm, but definitely worth it. My lips haven't been even slightly chapped since I started using it! It smells like vanilla, but it's a natural/mild vanilla smell, not fake or overwhelming at all. And you can definitely layer lipstick or gloss over it, since it's not the waxy kind of lip balm. My only problem with it is that it can sometimes get gritty feeling if it's been out in the cold, but once it warms back up to room temperature it's fine again. So yeah, I'm totally going to find this and order it online - I never thought I'd do that for just a tube of lip balm! That should tell you something about how wonderful it is.

It's probably the only tube of chapstick I've used up completely!

Shampoo -Head and Shoulders - Smooth and Silky 2 in 1
rated 4 of 5

I was pleasantly surprised! No offensive dandruff-shampoo scent, leaves my hair soft, but not dry or too weighed-down. I mean, it does the job, but it's not anything spectacular either. It's a great basic, everyday shampoo. I'd buy it again. You DO still need to use extra conditioner though; don't rely on the 2in1 conditioner. My hair feels pretty dry right after I rinse it out, but once I use my usual conditioner it's fine.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
rated 4 of 5
diana6 12/16/2007 10:32:00 PM

I'm so very torn. My usual HG mascaras are Maybelline Full 'n Soft (great in so many ways, but not dramatic enough) and Clinique High Impact (also great, but tends to clump). **Pros:** - LOVE the brush (it isn't too big or hard to use if you're used to the mascaras mentioned above), it delivers CLUMP-FREE mascara! amazing! - lengthens slightly (but I don't need it) and adds volume (yay!), giving the dramatic, but not too over-the-top look I want - cheaper than high-end mascaras and available at drug stores - lashes are soft, not hard and crusty - no smudging **Cons:** - I wanted to use the awesome brush with my HG mascaras, but it was too big for the tube - it dries more slowly than other mascaras I've tried... you have to be careful not to mess it up before it dries! - it's really hard to get close to the lash line since the brush is so big! I have to use a smaller brush from a different mascara first... EDIT: Well, I was wearing this on Friday and I've TOTALLY changed my mind about it! It was pouring rain all day, but I forgot my umbrella. Normally, this would mean rivers of mascara running down my face, since I don't wear waterproof on a daily basis. Not with Lash Blast! My mascara stayed completely intact all day!! And then, on top of that, I ended up crying for about half an hour (unusual, but I'm not going to explain further) and STILL my mascara was intact. Amazing!

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Whole Foods 365 Fragrance Free Body Lotion
rated 5 of 5
diana6 12/15/2007 11:08:00 AM

Wow, I'm surprised how much I like this! I don't normally buy fragrance-free, but I wanted something really basic, just moisturizing for my dry winter skin, without any additives. I got fragrance free so I wouldn't get sick of the scent and it wouldn't clash with perfume. I picked this up at Whole Foods for really cheap (less than $5 for 16oz.). I'm not crazy about the shampoo-style bottle, but it does the job and it's better than a tube. The lotion feels kind of thick and a little greasy when you first apply it, but then it dries in a snap with no residue! I can put it on my hands and then touch my ipod a minute later without leaving marks! It's really moisturizing and for the price, you can't beat it. I can't wait to try the rest of Whole Food's 365 line.

Cleansers -Aveeno - Positively Radiant Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
diana6 11/17/2007 8:23:00 PM

I didn't like this at first - I didn't think it did a very good job of removing my makeup. But now that I've stopped wearing foundation (thanks to Omega-3 fish oil pills!) and only use a light dusting of powder instead, this is sufficient to clean my face. If I use toner afterwards, I don't see any remaining makeup on the cotton ball (like I do if I had foundation on). It's very gentle and I've never gotten a break-out or allergic reaction from it. It may seem a little expensive, but the bottle lasts FOREVER. And by forever, I mean months and months; I only have to buy a new bottle 2x a year (I'm on my 3rd). The fragrance is almost non-existent. My only complaint is that it doesn't always lather that well, but I guess that's a typical problem for non-soap products. And the pump bottle only dispenses a small amount with each pump. But - overall, I recommend it. This is my every day, HG cleanser for now. My face is still smooth, clear and soft after using it.

Lips -Vaseline - Vaseline
rated 5 of 5

Best thing ever for seriously chapped lips! I swear there is nothing that even compares... this is the only thing I would ever use on my lips when they start to crack after all that skiing in the winter.

Lip Treatments -Vaseline - Lip Therapy
rated 5 of 5

This is the BEST thing for chapped lips! The only other thing I'd even consider using on painfully chapped lips is Neosporin lip treatment, however Vaseline is even better. Sure, it's not flashy or fancy, but sometimes basic is all you need. Most other chapsticks just end up drying out your lips. I'm a skiier, so chapped could be a serious problem for me every winter if it wasn't for Vaseline! I prefer this tube over the pot just to bring it with me anywhere - otherwise I get it all over my fingers, which I hate.

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm
rated 3 of 5
diana6 11/2/2007 4:43:00 PM

Eh, it's not THAT great. I like it when my lips are in good shape - it feels really refreshing and minty. But if I have super chapped lips in the middle of winter, forget it. This stuff doesn't help at all! And it kind of hurts to apply it, b/c the balm gets all hard in the cold winter. It's painful to try to put it on! The only thing that really works for me is good old Vaseline. Plus, I think Burt's Bees is a bit overpriced for what you get. Not to mention how often you need to reapply...

Lip Treatments -Blistex - Lip Infusion
rated 3 of 5
diana6 11/2/2007 4:39:00 PM

Well, I don't think this is all that bad. Pros: Cute packaging, love the roller ball - feels very cool/soothing. Small size can fit in your pocket! Smells ok - kinda vanilla-y, but not overwhelming at all. VERY cheap! >$2 and doesn't run out really fast. Makes your lips shiny, like a gloss, but not sticky. Has spf15! Which is better than nothing. Cons: Not too moisturizing for very chapped lips. Feels a little greasy/oily. Doesn't have good staying power. Overall, it's not bad for what you pay. I think it's almost as moisturizing as Burt's Bees, which is way more expensive. And if I ever have really chapped lips, the ONLY thing that really works is good old Vaseline! EDIT: After using this for a few days, I'm finding that it's reall drying! I love how it feels putting it on, and the glossy look it gives, but I always need to reapply! My lips just end up feeling more and more dry... not good.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
rated 5 of 5
diana6 11/1/2007 1:54:00 PM

This is my favorite, HG mascara. It does not clump, flake, or run. I've even fallen asleep with it on after a late night out and it looks exactly the same when I wake up in the morning! Now that is amazing. You can even layer it for a more dramatic effect. It's cheap and easy to find. Plus, the lifespan of it is pretty decent... it doesn't dry out too fast or start to smell weird like other mascaras I've tried. I have a lot of long, thin, light brown/blond lashes, and this mascara makes them look thick and dark, but still somewhat natural. It also holds the curl much better than Clinique's High Impact Mascara, which is another one I use. But F&S is less sticky, doesn't make your lashes hard, and clumps and flakes a whole lot less - for less money. You really do end up with SOFT lashes.

Eyeliner -Maybelline - Define-A-Line in Rich Raisin
rated 5 of 5
diana6 10/24/2007 5:44:00 PM

This is VERY similar in color to the Almay Intense i-liner--bring out the green (Raisin Quartz), but cheaper and better! You get a lot more for your money... it has better staying power, the color is more intense, and it comes with a smudger/sharpener on the end. You also get more product - my Almay eyeliner got used up REALLY quickly! As for the color, it really does bring out my green eyes! Love it! I would definitely buy this again.
