Blush -L'Oreal - Illuminating Blush- Luminous Pink
dakgirl 2/19/2009 10:51:00 AM
Illuminating Blush 105 in Luminous Pink was from the limited edition December 2007 Golden Globes Collection. It has a golden-straw with a hint of peach colored highlighter and pretty fleshy cool pale pink with slight gold shimmer that looks like the lighter part of a slice of watermelon. I get a dab of both on my brush and swirl them across my cheeks. Wow. My pasty-dead pale skin is instantly transformed to porcelain goddess creaminess! This is a no-brainer for me, soft, pretty and best of all makes me look radiant and blushing in a no-makeup way. I have squirreled away several of these but as long as there is ebay nothing is EVER discontinued.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Quad in Showstopping Taupes
dakgirl 2/19/2009 10:43:00 AM
The colors have been described to death and the photo someone put up appears very accurate. This 2007 Golden Globes Collection was PERFECT for me and they got me hook, line and sinker! The shadows are perfect on my brown eyes and pale skin. I found a touch of Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Linen underneath really makes them pop and last all day. Its so hard to find cool silvery taupes and these are IT! Every time I was in a drugstore and saw this quad I had to buy it because even though I owned it I'd fall in love in the store and have to have it. I think I have about 5 or 6. Its THAT good. I'm also reviewing the Blush Illuminateur in 105 Luminous Pink and the Color Riche 209 Simply Rose lipstick in the appropriate sections.

Gels/Soaps -Neutrogena - Body Clear Body Wash - Pink Grapefruit
dakgirl 2/19/2009 10:22:00 AM
My face is oily, my scalp is oily, my body is oily. I go between this and the Clean & Clear 2% salicylic acid cleanser. Both smell the best. I hate, hate, hate that awful medicinal smell of the regular one, and if you think THAT'S bad you should smell how bad the generic ones smell! This is a pleasure to use, cleans my skin, leaves it nice and soft and smooth, and less surface oil means less clogged pores. I just need to get my husband to stop using so much! I'm going through it too quickly!

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Cream shadow paint in Lofty
dakgirl 2/18/2009 5:44:00 PM
I could have sworn I reviewed this but I haven't. I find that in general HIP products are not made for PPP's and instead are meant to work on deeper skintones that have long been neglected or poorly provided for, by the cosmetic industry. I was hoping for Lofty to be a fleshtone for me. Unfortunately its someone else's flesh. (I guess I should have just bought Wite-Out! Just kidding, Mac's Chiaroscuro works nicely on my eyes.) This browny peach-pink is the same color as my eyelids, which makes me look tired. That's why I use things like LM Linen Eye Basic to neutralize it. HOWEVER! Today I grabbed this without thinking and put it on my cheeks, temples and softly above my brows on the outer half. Lo and behold it works like a beautiful soft boost of color, but not quite a bronzer (which can look muddy or orange on a PPP) I am really pleased with the result! It blended well on my skin and left a sort of...velvet nude glow. On the eyes it has a touch of shimmer which on the cheeks isn't a shimmer, more of a nude glow. Before, Lofty was a "doesn't-work-on-my-skin-another-waste-of-money". Now, I will definitely be using this on my cheeks! It went very well with HIP Liquid Lipcolor in 860 Pretentious and MAC Mineralize Shadow dusted on dry in Family Silver, with a touch of black brown mascara.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
dakgirl 2/17/2009 5:09:00 PM
Cliff Notes: This item is a must have for everyone who wears shadow. Just go and buy it. Period. Details: I should have listened to the over 2,000 reviewers who love this product and tried it sooner. This could have saved me from pitching a ton of shadows that didn't last because of poor pigmentation. I got mine on ebay for less than the retail price. I agree about the bottle, it sacrifices getting every last bit out for cuteness. That said, it goes on colorless, I let it set about 30 seconds or so, then apply whatever shadows I'm wearing that day. I love makeup but hate having to touch it up all day. I want to put it on in the morning, go about my day and know it looks good til I take it off at night. I have no time for touch ups at work (I'm lucky if I get to swipe on some lipstick mid-day!) This item is a win/win, even with the packaging problems.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Slate Cream Eye Shadow
dakgirl 1/14/2009 9:32:00 PM
I was looking for a Slate color which I define as a deep grey with a touch of warmth. This had way more warmth than I wanted and doesn't look like the powder Slate shadow. I agree with the reviewer below that it can make blue eyes pop, but on my brown eyes it was boring and dull, made me look like a sepia photograph. I ended up having to blend sky blue cream eye shadow from PX over it just to cool the color down enough to make it acceptable for the day. The thing was in the jar it looked warmer, on my hand it looked more grey, but not grey enough on my eyes. This is going back. I'm going to hunt around for Laura Mercier's new Satinee Creme Eye Colour in Stone Suede which their website describes as a "steely blue-grey"

Fragrances -Avon - Everafter for Women
dakgirl 12/20/2008 8:52:00 PM
I can't believe no one reviewed this vintage scent? It has a honey amber note to it that really draws me in. I'm not a fan of Avon fragrances, they are just mass market productions with very generic ingredients. But this one intrigues me. I wish it came in a dab on because the spray releases too much and it can be over powering. The shower gel and lotion of this were very nice, especially in the winter.

Foundations -L'Oreal - Quickstick Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
dakgirl 12/20/2008 4:59:00 PM
I can't believe I never tried this? I too saw the Walgreens clearance tags and decided to give it a go. I'm a PPP, for reference BB Porcelain, LM Porcelain Ivory. I'm yellow-white, especially on my neck, so if a foundation has pink there will be a huge color difference between my face and neck so EVERYTHING gets matched to my neck. Most light shades in DS makeup are pinky, which drives me crazy. First I tried Pale, it looked promising in the tube but once on the skin it was so dark and yellow I looked like I had hepatitis! Then I tried Soft Ivory. I remember opening up the package in the drugstore (never touching it) tons of times and thinking the color looked chalky white with pink, and putting it back. I think these go on much different than they look in the tube. Soft Ivory is PERFECT. Each morning I apply my Anthelios Fluid Extreme spf 55+, let it sink in a minute then stroke this stick across my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Blends in quickly, looks great all day, withstands the immense oil production that occurs on my skin no matter what I wear. I went to several Walgreens and stocked up, but to my surprise they weren't just on 50% clearance from $14.99 to $7.19, all L'Oreal was at BOGOHO, so the second one was only $3.60! Woo-Hoo!

Lip Liners -Lumene - Lipliner pencil
dakgirl 11/30/2008 1:38:00 PM
Lumene is on clearance in CVS, when I saw this I went to 3 different stores to snag all the Lip Graphics liners in P2 Mallow / Malva. This is my HG liner. My lips are a light pink but are getting that slightly lilac tone that makes most lip colors "turn" cooler shades. Anytime I tried a "nude" liner it would look brown or orange around my lips but THIS color matches my lips perfectly which when I used it to make my lips look fuller by lining slightly outside my natural line the effect was believable. No matter what color I use, I use this liner because if I use a nude lipcolor on my lips and then slightly over the edge you'd see the color difference, now everything matches. As for the liner being hard, I have always lined OVER my lipcolor not before because it goes on smoother and wears off more evenly. This item is an absolute staple for me. I'm going to keep them in the fridge to make them last longer.

Blush -Fresh - Cheek Blush Creme
dakgirl 11/8/2008 9:33:00 PM
I can't believe I never reviewed this? I have Age Of Innocence, a soft warm pink, I wear it nearly every day switching between this and BB Powder Pink Pot Rouge. The Pot Rouge also works on the lips but the Fresh is too light for the lips. This gives my skin the most beautiful radiant pink glow and without any shimmer. Its really perfect for me. It feels like a powder-creme, BB Pot Rouge feels stickier. It lasts all day and the packaging is pretty and elegant. I love the mirror in the lid, its a nice touch.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Double Extend Beauty Tubes
dakgirl 11/7/2008 10:21:00 PM
I kept walking past this at Walgreens. It seems like I'm always in there and I would stop, look at the display, then keep going. Finally I gave in, I couldn't resist anymore. I gave it a good shot but ultimately its too much work for not enough payoff. I get better results from Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara. I tried applying the base then immediately applying the mascara, I tried letting the base dry for a few minutes then applying the mascara. I tried applying 2 coats of base then 1 of mascara, then I did the reverse, 1 base and 2 mascara. It gave okay length, but nothing to stop in your tracks about. It gave minimal volume but that's not what its meant to do so I didn't take off points for that. I stood in the shower, let water run over my face and gently brushed away the resulting eraser-shaving like tubes off my eyes. The next time I wet a cotton pad with warm water, held it against my eye for a moment and then swept the residue off. Either way it came off cleanly, HOWEVER if you are wearing eyeshadow you will need to use your regular makeup remover because water doesn't dissolve shadow and liner so ultimately this mascara creates twice the work of removing. BTW my tests were conducted without eyeshadow so I could really see the results, then I wore it with shadow and liner which is when I discovered the double work of removing. Overall: meh? I wouldn't buy this again. I did however score a tube of the original formula of Revitalash which I just stated using so I'll be posting my review of it in about 3 months or as soon as I see results. Update-11-30-08: I've been using the white base first and then Maybelline's XXL Curl Power on top instead of the black that L'Oreal provides, the effect is MUCH better! I've also tried it with Intense XXL and XXL Extensions (they all had a $2.00 off coupon at Target so I tried all three) So maybe the key is to use another mascara on top of the Beauty Tubes base coat? I'm liking it much better now and if I have the extra time in the morning I feel like I'm batting big fat lashes when I catch sight of myself in the mirror!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Exact Eyelights
dakgirl 10/25/2008 2:19:00 PM
I purchased this in Black Sapphire hoping it to be a dark navy, but it looks black, even in direct sunlight which is usually the litmus test. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for 1980's electric blue mascara, I'm looking for a nice clean crisp navy blue. This isn't it. The marketing for this product is that it is supposed to enhance eyes up to 40% than without eye products. Well, duh! Any eye is going to look better with eye products than without. It specifically is supposed to enhance the color of your irises, but with colors so dark it fails, so I'm not recommending this unless you want a plain basic black mascara, in which case its just okay.

Mascara -Prestige - Lash Matrix in Black
dakgirl 10/25/2008 2:10:00 PM
I've been in the mood for a good mascara because I'm noticing that my lashes are looking short and my eyes are losing the definition they once had when I didn't have eyemakeup on. Its just a part of aging so I purchased an original formula Revitalash on Ebay so I'll write about that after I've used it for a couple of months. Meanwhile, this mascara. Built okay looking lashes but soon after FLAKES, FLAKES, FLAKES! Sorry, that just doesn't cut it. One thing I need from all of my makeup, excluding lip products of course, is that they last all day without touch ups or clean up. This failed my test miserably so into the trash it goes.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic in Carbon Black
dakgirl 10/14/2008 8:00:00 PM
WT...? A strange brush which is more like a four sided comb, it did absolutely NOTHING for my lashes. It made my lashes look wet and wimpy. No matter how much I combed through it did nothing. A complete waste of $9.00

Eye Shadow -Sonia Kashuk - Enhance Eye Color- Opal
dakgirl 10/5/2008 8:30:00 PM
I love this color as a base color or all over as a my eyes only better look. It was recently discontinued which, if I had known, I would have snatched up every last one at Target. I can't even find this on ebay! If anyone can recommend any of her new formulation shades to replace this please let me know.
